Forms :: Getting Same Subform To Update Across Different Tabs
Jul 14, 2015
Update an old database (2005 old) with new employees, jobs, etc.
Unfortunately, the old database had a lot of restrictions, was outdated in what we needed (even had the companies old name), and so forth. So, I decided to build a new one. I am at the very end of this journey and there is one thing that is keeping me from completing it:
When I put in a new employee's name, I do so in my first tab, Employee Data. The subform in this tab is "subEmployees" and it's source is a table called "Employees". My next tab is "Drug Tests" and in it is a subMaster and subChild. The subMaster is "subEmployees". A few more tabs over is "Training History", where again, there is a subMaster and subChild. Again, the subMaster is the form "subEmployees".
I would think that since all of these are the same subform or whatever, they should all update immediately when the other one's are changed. That, however, is not the case. I have to close and reopen (or enter/exit design view) to update information. Once the information is there, however, I can change it freely. I assume this is a problem with "requery" but I don't know how to fix it, as it is obviously refreshing just fine.
I do have code for requery but it came from the previous database (as my major is chemical engineering and I know very little about code) and the code only deals with the subChild of my "Drug Tests" and "Training History" tabs.

I have an on click event that checks if entered number values on my first tabbed subform are not null. I then pass the values to three other fields each on a different tabbed subform using If Then Else syntax that seems to work. When I click through the tabs after the code has finished I can see the updated values on their respective tabbed subforms. However, when I click back through the tabs or requery the record all but the first and last subform values have saved.
I have tried inserting If Me.Dirty Then Me.Dirty = False in the subform after update and on data change events as well as in the on click event. I have also tried RunCommand acCmdSaveRecord and neither seems to work.
Ex.
If IsNull(Me.AMT1_AF) Then
Else
Forms![SCH_ENTRY]![ENT1subform]![AMT1] = Me.AMT1_AF
End If
If IsNull(Me.AMT2_AF) Then
[Code]...

I'm trying to clean up a form a bit and have it only show certain subforms/graphs if the data exists. I already have columns in a combobox query to show an "X" for if certain data appears:
Now, I know I could build another query and have some system go through and identify these things, but the easiest thing would be to reference the "X" in the columns of the combobox. Is there an easy way to reference values in the other (non-primary) columns? Or can you think of an easy way to make these subforms only be visible when the data exists? Maybe have an on load event for the subform?

Hi
I have a form with some tabs. Each tab has 2 subforms, of which the 2nd subform is always the same (call it SubformB).
I had it set up before so that the SQL query to run is passed in the openargs property to that that form and this works well.
However, on a tabbed form, each tab opens up Subform B as soon as the page is loaded. Is there a way to pass openargs to SubForm B on each of the tabs so that they all run different SQL queries even though they are essentially the same form ?

I have a subform linked to a form using a field IdReg. I need to update the field W which is repeated in the subform. This field (W) is true / false. I tried with Loop but still do not get it. Eg
IdReg | W (field to update everyone all at false or true)
---------------------------------------------
001 | True
002 | True
I use a Command Button named "BtnUpdate" placed in the main form to Update the subform field.

I have a many to many relationship between tblMain and tblComp, where the junction table is jtblMain_Comp. The real life scenario is one person can have many complications, and each complication can be encountered by many people.
I've set up a form with a subform, to enter multiple Comp. I thought that by defining the relationship, the MainID would be entered into the junction table whenever a Comp is entered, but I'm clearly missing a step.

I have a Main form with several sub forms on it the tables behind each form are related tables. The user enters data on the main form with the exception of one bound control then moves on to enter data on the sub forms On exiting the record or the main form I want to take data from several of the sub forms and add them together and enter result in the bound form on the main form. Because this bound control is not used to enter data in there are no event triggers to code to get this done.

So I'm making a database for an office and I'm having a little trouble getting the information linked together. This is my first access project.
Here's the information:
Desktops_TBL
Desktop ID (PK)
Location (FK)
Serial Number
Product Number
Operating System
etc
[Code]....
How I want it to work:
-New users or equipment is entered via a new entry form and stored in the respective table with a dummy Location (i.e. "Backstock"). This part I understand how to do
-To assign a user and equipment to a location, I want there to be a master form for that location. In that master form, there are subforms displaying the current pieces of equipment attributed (if there are any) to that location. A combo box displays the possible choices, and choosing a choice attributes the equipment to that location.
I have the form with subforms set up. The number of records corresponds to the number of locations in the office. Going through the records displays the correct information of attributed equipment in the subforms.
Where I am stuck: What I want is for the user of the database to be able to click on the Desktop serial number combo box, choose a different record, and have it assign the Location from the main form to the Desktop Location FK so that they link. When I try to do this, it writes a new blank record in Desttop_TBL, assigning the Desktop ID to the PC Serial Number spot, but that's it.

I have a continuous sub form linked to a master form. The sub form contains fields such as [date], [increase], [lastdateincrease], [task], and multiple other fields. The sub form can have one record or multiple records linked to the master form.
Each sub form record represents a service, monthly cost, and a price increase amount. I'd like to be able to enter data in two fields and have this data populate any remaining records, or for that matter, new records that I had to the sub form.
The fields that I would like to have populate are [date] and [increase].
When I enter the [date] and [increase] in the first record, I'd like all remaining records in the sub form to update with the [date] and [increase] amount automatically.

How it works: You search for a User, and then you search for a Serial. Now, what if I want to edit the table? (inside the subform, the results). I added an openRecordSet, and Parameters, but I still get the error saying that Recordset cannot be updated. Why? I opened and sent parameters but still fails.

Parent form/table, with a subform (separate table, 1:M link on "ID") The parent form data stays fairly constant (occasional change/update), with multiple entries in the subform for each parent record which are added to more frequently The master table has a field "last interaction" which I need to update whenever a new entry is made in the subform/subtable It updates fine when I change an entry in the parent table/form, but not when I add a new subentry for that parent

I have a continuous subform of 'static data' whose record source is a SELECT query across multiple linked tables.
Most of the fields are locked and purely there for information purposes but I need to be able to allow end users to change one particular field in each record if they need to - choosing a value from a predetermined list (i.e. one of the tables)
Usually, when I need to do this, I add a command button to the subform and use that to open a separate pop-up form specific to that record, from which the user can make whatever changes they like and then update the record. So in this scenario, a simple unbound combobox linked to that table, on that separate form, would work quite easily.
But I would prefer if users could make their changes directly from the subform without (yet another) pop-up form required each time, to make managing these records more fluid and less time-consuming.
So my thought was to use a bound textbox in the continuous subform (to take the existing value for each record), hide it and overlap it with a visible unbound combobox whose row source is the table of available options and whose default value is driven by the hidden bound textbox. And then to use the AfterUpdate event of the combobox to run the UPDATE query on the record in question.
However, while the combobox is getting the correct default value and the correct list items, I can't make a selection from it. Now I am aware there are 'issues' with using a combobox in a continuous subform but I was hoping I could circumvent them by not binding it.

I'll simplify this form to a
- textbox
- command button
- subform (showing a table with 4 fields, including an "EntryID" field but just one record)
What I'm trying to accomplish is to enter a value in the textbox (this value will be one of the EntryIDs in the EntryID field), click the command button, and the subform should refresh itself, showing the record from the table (the 4 fields) which has the same EntryID.

This is an employee timekeeping database. I have a main form "frmTEMain", with a tab subform named "frmGridsub" with a tab named "Grid" on the lower half. On the tab page is the "frmGridsub" a continuous form that looks like a datasheet, many horizontal rows of data. The subform works correctly with several combo boxes that auto populate. There are many different employees listed in the Grid subform. "Employee" is the name used for the field that holds the unique ID number in the tables that feed the subform. The subform populates another table "dbo_BCRC."
When I click on a row in the subform I want fields to update on the Main Form with Employee, LastName, FirstName, that come from the table that was populated when data was entered into the subform. As the person clicks on the various rows in the subform, the main form fields need to synch with the row.
Do I use "Got Focus" event? Do I need to create another subform and place it on the top half of the Main Form?
I can provide screen shots....

I have a form called CostingForm. This form has a subform called CostingSubform. The subform's data source is a table called Costing Table. The main form has a combobox that has all the "Field names" or headers from the Costing Table that populates with the on open event. I also have a non bound textbox on the main form. What I would like to be able to do is input a value in the textbox, select a field name from the combobox and with an "update" button update the corresponding fields on the subform with the value in the textbox. Is this even possible?

I have a navigation form, a navigation subform, and then a subform. When I click the save button on the navigation subform, i need the data entered in two fields on the subform to save in a table. the subform is based on a query. This is what I currently have on the the button's onClick event:
Code:
Update data_tbl
Set [data_tbl].[Approved] = [Forms]![Navigationfrm]![Navigation subform].Form![Entry_subfrm].[Form]![CboAppd]
[data_tbl].[Comments] = [Forms]![Navigationfrm]![Navigation subform].Form![Entry_subfrm].[Form]![txtComments]
WHERE [data_tbl].[ID] = [Forms]![Navigationfrm]![Navigation subform].Form![Entry_subfrm].[Form]![ID]

I'm running into an issue with my forms. I have a form that contains a subform, that contains a list of projects. This list is read-only. To update a record, you can double click on it, which opens another form filtered on this record, and which contains the fields in the first form as well as some others.
I have a command button on that last form to "Save and close", which fires up a macro that saves the record and closes the window.
Now, the issue that I'm having is that, when the window closes and I'm once again in front of the first form with the list of projects, the values of the record I changed are not updated and when I click on another record, Access tells me there's a conflict in the values and asks me if I want to keep the changes, discard them or copy to the clipboard.
It seems to consider the old values from the first form as a change, and thus asks me which to keep between these, and the actual (proper) changes I made in the dedicated form.
For the proper changes to be applied, I need to select "Drop changes".
I tried to requery the first form, also undo the changes to it after closing the window, but none of that worked.
I'm actually basing this on one of the templates, which does exactly what I want and which obviously works...

I am working with 2 forms and a subform.
frmTaskTracker -subfrmInbox (Datasheet View - based on a query)
frmUpdateInboxItem
subfrmInbox displays a summary of tasks on a task list. The user navigates to frmUpdateInboxItem from frmTaskTracker. After updating a record from frmUpdateInboxItem, it is possible that it the record in question will no longer meet the requirements to have it listed on subfrmInbox.
I have attempted to add code to the on close event of frmUpdateInboxItem to requery the sub form on frmTaskTracker but am not getting the syntax correct.
correct my code? Alternatively is there is a more correct way to do this, I'd be happy to learn it.
Code:
Option Compare Database
Private Sub cmdClose_Click()
Me.[frmTasktracker]![subfrmInbox].Requery
DoCmd.Close acForm, "frmUpdateInboxItem"
End Sub

I have a subform embedded in a main form, the subform has a field (text box) that is doing automatic calculation so no manual entries are needed from the user. I have tried to pass automatically the final result to a text box in the main form, but all events are not working (afterupdate, On change, On Dirty), etc.
I have a button to do the above mentioned in the main form, but I don’t want to use that button, I want to do all the process from the subform.
Also, from the subform I was able to do click on the button on the main form (programmatically), however MS Access is too quick and the value extracted from the subform is always empty (zero); Acees is finishing before the calculation is done.
I am using MS Access 2010.

I'm trying to make a very simple click through data entry screen in Access 2007. For each record I want to have a standard form with three buttons at the bottom. Each button opens a new form (each form has a set of tabbed pages on it as there is lots to enter). How do I make sure that each of the additional forms populate the same record as the main form.

I am releatively new to using Access. I have a form created and linked to tables. I would like to know if there is a way to have the form automatically tab to the next field for me. I have several fields that have the same number of characters entered for every record. I would like it to jump to the next field once I've entered the maximum number of characters in that field. I tried setting the fields in the tables to the length I want, and it does stop me from entering any more than that in the forms, but I still need to press the tab key. Kind of annoying after a while. Anyone know how to do this? THanks.

I have set up my main data entry form as a navigation form with 5 tabs/pages. The first three all contain fields from my main data table, the other 2 tabs/pages have fields from related tables.
Ok, so my question is: is if there is a way to go from tab/page 1 through the other 4 in succession with the main primary key (in this case an object ID number) automatically populated through. As it is now, when I start a new record for an object on tab/page 1, and then go to the next tab/page, it registers a new record has been created (at the bottom of the form it updates the total amount of records entered), but I have to manually enter in the ID field at the top the object ID number that I am entering info for. Otherwise it is still showing the details associated with the last record I was in the form updating.

Hey guys,
We are running a mdb access file that spawns different 'windows' or forms if you will. We've had a request from a staff member that they be opened in different taskbar instances in windows xp. It does in windows 2k, however.
The only way of swapping forms at the moment is to click "Window" and then the form name.
Any idea's guys?

I have a tab control form with about 5 tabs. However when I move to the tab that has a datasheet form, the page moves down. You have to scroll up to see the above tabs. Is there something I'm missing on this simple tasks? Is it better to have it as a basic form for easier interface.
