Forms :: Hide Number Fields Of Specific Record On Continuous Subforms
Mar 8, 2014
I have a continuous subform recording the information of various wireless products for an employee embedded in an employee main form. Please see screen shot enclosed.
There is a check box "BYOD/Personal" on the subform. I want to hide a number fields when this check box on independent record is checked. However, if I use the following codes, the changes apply to all records under that employee.
Private Sub BYOD/Personal_AfterUpdate()
If BYOD/Personal.Value = True then
Me.Provider.Enabled = False
Me.XXX.Enabled = False....etc.
Else
Me.Provider.Enabled = True
Me.XXX.Enabled = True....etc.
End If
End Sub
How can I just disable those fields on the subform of a specific record when the BYOD/Personal field for that record is checked?

I have a form that displays its records in a Contiuous Form. The controls on the form are: txtRecID, txtStudID, cboTrimester, cboType, fld Comment, and blnReqConf.
My issue is that I need the blnReqConf (Request Conference) checkbox and label controls to only show on the reocrds when/if the cboTrimester = "Tri-2" and the cboType = "Parent" or "Teacher" are selected or displayed.
I have written:
If cboTrimester = "Tri-2" And (cboType.Column(1) = "Teacher" Or cboType.Column(1) = "Parent") Then
blnReqConf.Visible = True
lblReqConf.Visible = True
Else
blnReqConf.Visible = False
lblReqConf.Visible = False
End If
The problem is that the controls display on all records throughout the form. How do I make it so that the controls are hidden on some records in the continous form and are shown on others based on the criteria? Is it possible?

I have a continuous form for which the recordsource is a query that retrieves dates from 10 days in the past to 10 days in the present. I want the record with today's date to be at the top of the form. The record with the oldest date is always on top. Is this a scrolling issue? How can I get the record with today's date to appear on top?

I have a main form with a continuous sub-form. On the main form I have a series of text boxes that I want to use as a makeshift status bar. The text boxes would be filled in if a value was entered into certain records on my sub-form.The problem I have is since the sub-form is continuous, how would I refer to the specific record on the sub-form that I want to check for a value?

Access 2010. I have a form pulling from a query to create a "To Do' list of sorts. On this form is a button to open an input form for the corresponding record (I hope). When this button is used I want it to pull certain data for that specific line from the query and input it into the new record opened by the button. I know this is possible as I use another db that does this but I have not been able to figure out how to make it work in the new db.

I have searched this site and tried several things over the last 3 days and am getting frustrated. All of my forms are built from existing tables.
I have a main form (frmevent) with the primary key being EventID. I have many "continuous" subforms e.g. event type, initial action taken, initial outcome that the user can enter more then one record.
My Event Type continuous subform has a cascading combo box. One combo box displays the Event Category and the other combo box displays the Event Types. I have the cascading combo working so that when the category is selected on those types that apply to it show up.
If the user tabs to the next record and doesn't enter anything in it I want it to tab to the next sub form.
I tried (please note that EventInitialActionTaken is the first field in the form)
Private Sub EventInitialActionTaken_LostFocus()
If IsNull(Me.EventInitialActionTaken) Then
Me.Parent.[frmeventFsubform].SetFocus
End If
End Sub
I am getting a run-time error on the form '2452' The expression you entered has an invalid reference to the Parent property.
What does this mean and can anyone help.
Thank you in advance.

Greetings all,
I have a question regarding subforms that are set to show continuous forms and how they can relate to each other. I have attached a jpg of what i'm trying to do, you may want to open it so you can follow along with what I will now explain.
I have 3 subforms on a main form. The subform on the left shows high level info. A user would find the record they want in the subform on the left, double click, and that would in turn populate the two subforms to the right.
My question is how do I reference the name field in the record selected in the left subform , for criteria purposes in the queries for the right hand subforms? I thought maybe using the bookmark property but that hasn't worked.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Tim

Hello,
I have a continuous subform that shows 2 records consisting of a text field and a yes/no field.
I was wondering if it was possible to take the state of one particular of the yes/no fields to trigger an event. Specifically, when one of the questions is checked [true] then I would like to make visible another subform on the main form.
Can this be done, and if so, how, or should I just leave my subform visible at all times?
Thank you.

I'm working on a form with almost a hundred various fields (it's what my employer needs). He wants to be able to create new records with much of the same information as the old ones by clicking on a button that will copy the information to a new record, then clear certain specific fields (or some process that will safely create the same result). I don't need specifics on how to write the same line of code for each and every field I wish to clear.
Say I have a form with 5 fields: part_number, part_owner, procedure, file_name, and date.
How could I copy the record to keep the fields part_owner and procedure the same, but clear part_number, file_name, and date?
All of the fields are from the same table (no, it's not normalized...).

I've got a continuous form that displays my massive 3,000+ inventory, with the option to filter down to specific categories. Some categories have 5 items, others have hundreds. The design I have used makes it look really tacky once I filter down to one of the categories that has 5 items, because there is no scroll bar.
What I've tried using is:
Code:
If Me.RecordsetClone.RecordCount < 10 Then
Me.Scrollbars = 2 'vertical only
Else
Me.Scrollbars = 2
End If
But it still doesn't display correctly (nobar.png). This is probably my biggest headache right now, and every "solution" I've found, doesn't work.

I am designing a data-entry system in Access 2003 for a clinical case-reading study. The questions that the case readers have to answer are divided into modules, and different batches of records use different modules, but all batches use a core module which includes identifying information and a set of questions that apply to all cases. The modules can include anywhere from about 15 to 60 questions. Some of the modules have been written, but the idea is to create new modules as the need arises. The data will be exported to an Excel spreadsheet for analysis. There is no need to plan for reports and this isn't really a relational database.
The problem is to allow the reader to enter data for the relevant modules, sometimes one, sometimes four or five or more.
I have created a main table for the core module and a form to go with it. I’m assuming I need to create a separate table, related to the main table, for each module and an accompanying subform for each table.
How do I create a menu system that will allow the case reader to choose only the subforms needed for a particular record?

How can i apply the following code to the immediate record in my subform. I would like when the assigned check box value = true, then the fields for that record become locked.
Ive written the following code to an onclick event for a check box labeled "assigned" on my form, the problem is it executes on all the records in my form.
Q. How do i apply the code to only the immediate record?
Private Sub Assigned_Click()
If Me.Assigned.Value = True Then
Me.Serial_Number.Enabled = False
Me.Component_Group_ID.Enabled = False
Me.TypeID.Enabled = False
Me.Description.Enabled = False
Me.Status.Enabled = False
Else
Me.Serial_Number.Enabled = True
Me.Component_Group_ID.Enabled = True
Me.TypeID.Enabled = True
Me.Description.Enabled = True
Me.Status.Enabled = True
End If
End Sub

Is there any way to highlight duplicates across a number of records on a continuous form (conditional formatting I presume)? My continuous form is filtered on load to show only the records relating to the specified date (specified before opening the form), and there is one field that I would like to highlight if there is a duplicate value in the same field on another record on the form. Is this possible?

I have a form and subform.The form and subform both access tables that have "required" fields.If I try to tab to the sub form without filling in the required field then I get an error message generated by access (this is what I want). If I try and exit the form without the required field I get an error message as well.
Now it's a different story with the sub form. The sub form contains 1 to many rows. In each row there is a required field. I don't get any error message for not filling in that field. I Know I can 'capture' this in the code but I want access to do it.

I have a bound continuous tabular form,However, based on data content in one field of a record, I want a checkbox in the same record enabled, so the user can check it if necessary. I have created a record set using the form as shown below, and I am looping through each record. To show that my code is referring to the field with required data content, I display it as a message box and it works, yet my checkbox does not enable.
I have the code in the form_load event, however, for testing purposes I have it behind a button.If I am seeing this properly, the code behind the button enables the checkbox for ALL records once the criteria in the required field is true, and based on the last record, which has no data content, it disables the checkbox in ALL records. I also have the PK ID for each record hidden in the form. Can I utilize that to target the checkbox of each individual record??
Form Detail
-Form does not allow additions or deletions. Edits allowed
-All fields are disabled and locked
-I only want the check box to unlock if data is found in the "RequiredField" as referred to below. I have also tried if not isNull(requiredfield.value) then -enable checkbox, which yields the same results
Here is my code
Code:
Dim rstMyForm As DAO.Recordset
Set rstMyForm = Forms!MyForm.Form.Recordset
rstMyForm.MoveFirst
Do While Not rstMyForm.EOF
If Not RequiredField.Value = "" Then
[code]...

how do you make them?
i've just started going through all of my forms and making them unbound, as the people i'm creating this program for are far too stupid to create good data with bound forms. a few of my forms, however, contain continuous subforms. how do i get the records to show up for them? it's actually about three levels deep, but i'm sure i can figure out how to take care of that once i hear the concept (customer form > job form > job details [continuous subform]).
thanks guys
added after i saw there's another post on this subject: sorry about the double post on the subject. i looked at the other post on this, though, and was not convinced on how to do it. i understand they're a pain in the buttocks, but these people are REALLY stupid. on second thought, is there any way to have a BOUND continuous subform from an UNBOUND form? for instance, when the user selects the record and it is brought up in the form, the bound continuous form pulls up the records based on the ID's and whatnot? will this work? thanks

Hi Guys,
I currently have a subform which relates to the primary key of the main form.
This subform contains possible 'Answers' which related back the main form/table 'Question'. Each possible answer has a true of false field to show whether or not it is the correct possible answer from the question field.
Currently the subform performs correctly, in that it shows up the 3 possible answers for each question... (in continuous form view)ie all three appear at once in 'form view' - but in the subform the only one answer and one true or false attribute appear at once.
Here is where the problem is - i need to be able to access the individual field values for these 3possible answers (in VB code). I cant work out how to do this? Does anyone know how access calls them? What will the checkboxname be? The problem is because there is only one checkbox on the form in 'Design View' (to see if the answer is the correct one), but then 3 in 'Form View', I cant work out how access distinguishes between them.
Many thanks
Ross

Is it possible to hide or show a combo in certain records in a continuous form. i.e if certain certain conditions are met.
At present I have if Check1 = true then Combo1.Visible = true
The trouble is it then displays the combo in all records.

I do not like the look of combo boxes on continuous forms. I think that they really take away from an aesthetic I am trying to create. However, I really like their functionality.
What I would like to do is have a text box for the field when the control does not have focus, but switch it to a combobox when it does. Now, this is pretty easy to do - however, it ends up switching all of the text boxes on the continuous form to a combo box and back. I only want to switch the currently selected record.
Does anyone know if this is possible, or have any ideas as to how to accomplish this?
