Forms :: Hitting Next Record Button Creates A New Job Instead Of Stopping?
Dec 28, 2014
I created a basic database in Access 2013 to keep up with jobs, and each job has a job number assigned to make each job unique (Primary Key).
At first I had it where I had to enter the new job number manually for each job. I have updated it and now it takes the last job number and adds 1 to it and then fills in the Job Number field automatically.
The problem is when I clicked the Last Record button, it will go to the last existing record, but if I click the Next Record button while on the last record, it will create a new record. It creates a new job instead of stopping at the last record. I assume it has to do with the auto numbering I have setup for the job numbers, since it didn't do this before, but I am not sure why. I ONLY want to be able to click the New Record (Blank) button to create a new job, NOT by also clicking the Next Record button.
Is there a way to force only the New Record button to add a new record? I still need the Previous and Next Record buttons to maneuver through the existing records. I just don't want to create new jobs accidentally by clicking the Next Record button when I'm at the end of the existing records. It should just stop, or say last record or something similar.
- I have a parent form bound to a parent table with a subform bound to a subtable.
- The parent does not allow data entry and has its sole field filled by a listbox.
- The subForm is a data entry form which contains two buttons in addition to it's fields: btnCancel and btnOK
-btnOK checks to ensure that all required fields are filled out and then saves and closes the parent form. - ALL OK
- btnCancel closes undoes any changes andcloses the form - ALL OK
The issue I have is with the user utilizing the Parent form x button to close the form. For uniformity I would like to not remove this button but would like it to prompt the user whether to discard the changes if the form is dirty.
I attempted the following on both the parent and sub forms to no avail. I can't even get the event to trigger:
Code: Private Sub Form_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer) Dim rspSaveorDiscard As VbMsgBoxResult rspSaveorDiscard = vbYes
If Me.Dirty Then intSaveorDiscard = MsgBox("Are you sure you want to close without saving?", vbYesNo, "Discard Changes")
[Code] .....
I was under the impression that when closing a form using the x button the before_update event was triggered first, then the close event, then the unload event. How should I handle this?
I have a form that uses a text box to search for a specific record in a table.(Cotton12) This works perfectly. What I would like to implement however is if the user so wishes he can edit the data he is shown, whithout editing the actual data in cotton12 and then with this new info create a new record in cotton13.
I have been creating an inventory control system for my small business. I am looking for a code that will generate to another form. So for example if I take out 4 aprons from the first row by hitting the '-1' button 4 times leaving 46 in total how do I generate the information from one form to another by hitting that submit button.
My other form shows Product ID, Date Taken, Product Description, Employee who has taken it, Amount Taken, and Total left in inventory. I need the correct information to show accordingly in the Inventory control form.
I have several different sub-forms that have a button that opens a new form which creates a new record. Each of the different sub-forms have a field value that needs to be passed to the new record when the other form is opened. I've tried a few solutions, but to no avail. Right now I'm using the macro functionality as follows for one of the subforms:
The problem I think is that I'm creating a new record so the value doesn't get passed. The new record is only created after the user begins to enter data in the new form that was opened.
I have a main form with several tabs. One of the tabs is a subform with just one number control, driven by a select query. The control shows a number, and you can type in a new number, which then updates the field in the table.
BUT, the control then shows a zero, it has moved to a blank record. If you enter a number again, it will attempt to write it to a new record.
So how do I display the number, and allow a new number to be entered that will update the SAME record, and not moved to a new record?
I have a database that was created by a colleague. They have created a form for adding client records onto the database. This is done via a button that, when pressed, checks mandatory fields for correct entries and then saves the record. However, when we do this, it is creating two identical records on the database.
She cannot see what she has done wrong in the code, and I know next to nothing about coding,
Code: Private Sub CmdAdd_Click() Dim dbAddClient As DAO.Database Dim rstAddClient As DAO.Recordset Set dbAddClient = CurrentDb Set rstAddClient = dbAddClient.OpenRecordset("ClientInfo")
I have a form set to the table Client Information with a subform set to the table Event Information. Client Information has a one to many relationship to Event Information.
There is a button that deletes the current record in Client Information--also deleting the related records in Event Information--then closes the form. The code works fine but a blank record in Event Information is apparently being created before the form closes.
Here's the VBA that I'm using:
Private Sub CmdDelReturn_Click() Dim CmdDelReturnMsg As String CmdDelReturnMsg = MsgBox("Delete event & client then return to front?", vbYesNo + vbDefaultButton1, "Delete and Return?")
[Code] ....
It's not a big deal because the button won't be used often and I can manually go into the table to delete the blank record. But if there's a simple solution to prevent this that would be nice.
I have a form with a memofield (rich text). After hitting enter, a new line is added in, but the focus changes to the top of the memofield (of the same record).
can anyone tell me how to stop additions and edits on a particular record in a form, plus the subform that the main form contains, im trying to put the event behind the change of a text box, shipped date, so when its changed you cant add or edit the record which is the order.
When I launch my modal, I want the user to be able to 'cancel' without creating a new record. It's not doing that and creating extra 'junk' in my table. How do I prevent that?
Here's my code: Private Sub Btn_Exception_SubModal_Click() DoCmd.OpenForm "Frm_Exception_UpdateModal", acNormal, , acFormAdd Forms! [Frm_Exception_UpdateModal]![clientnmbr].value = Me![clientnmbr].value End Sub
I have a form with a number of fields and buttons on it. The form is opened in "add new record" mode. I have noticed that when I move from the last field in the tab order to the first field in the tab order it saves an entry in the database.
This is causing me problems because when users move from the last field in the tab order to the field in the tab order an entry is saved to the database but it by passes all the data checks ensuring that certain fields have been filled-in etc.
I don't know why the movement between these two fields is causing an entry to be saved. I don't have code associated with either of these objects. I aslo changed the last field in the tab order to a different field and it still happens.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I have a form that has a main for, a subform, and then another subform inside the 1st subform. The form works like this:
Conact info --->Call info and notes ---> Orders worked
Each of those being nested as they appear. The problem is, the user usually jumps strait to putting the order number in "Orders worked" before entering in any notes or info... So no record exists in it's parent form to tie to. How can I have the database create a new record in its parent form when the user types in the subform?
On my switchboard i've got several forms, whenever i click a link to a new form that form opens in a new window, how do i stop this so that they all open in the same window?
I currently have two forms. One being my main form and the other being a pop-up form to update e-mail addresses. On my main form, I have a button that is currently programmed to generate several e-mails. Before those e-mails are generated, I would like the pop-up form to appear asking for any updates to e-mail addresses. Once the pop-up form is closed, I would like the code on my main form to continue.
I have a form that uses Table A as a record source and has a subform that uses Table B as a record source. There is a one to many relationship between Table A (one) and Table B (many). The user opens the form to a set record, then uses the subform to create a new record in Table B.
This works perfectly and I can do everything I want. But sometimes the subform creates a blank entry in Table B before I enter any data. Then, once I start entering data, it creates another record in which it stores the data that I am entering. The result is two records: One that only has the date of the record's creation (I set that to be automatic upon creating a new record) and the primary key that links Table B to Table A. A second one is the "true" record, the one which stores all of the data that I am entering.
It won't happen for 10 records or something and there is no apparent pattern. In case it makes a difference, the form is set to open as the subform as the focus.
My database has a table 'CCProgress' which contains just 3 fields (ID, Level, Date), and I have a form which I want to use for adding new records to this table. The form contains the 3 fields plus 2 combo boxes for choosing the relevant ID and Level codes. Date is just entered manually.Up to this point everything is fine, but I can't figure out how to write the 3 fields to 'CCProgress' when I click the 'Add New' button.I have tried various ways via the OnClick event for the button but without success. I am sure the answer is quite obvious but I just can't seem to see it.
I created a table about films and i made a form so i can see each movie in a different record. I wanted to create a button which generates a link to the movie's internet website. But when i create a button i cant put a different hyperlink for each record of the form.
My idea is the button to have a logo of the site so that is why i cant just put a link in a text box. I also tried embedding a hyperlink to a picture but again i had the same problem.. there was only one hyperlink for all the records .
I am using Access 2007 and am a former user of an old flat-file 32 bit program under Windows 3.x. I am fairly new to MS Access 2007. I run a filter or query, which will return X number of records. Then, I will search those X records by specific text, such as "assist" from the record navigation buttons. I search for "assist" and the text will be highlighted each time it is found in any text or memo field in the record. Hitting Enter takes me to the next occurrence and highlights the text. If "assist" occurs in 4 fields in a record, for instance, it will be highlighted in each of those 4 fields one by one as I hit Enter. The next Enter takes me to the next record and will then continue to the next occurrence of assist" in any of its fields. It will continue to highlight "assist" in those fields, in succession, until the last occurrence in all of those records is found, in which case Enter does not return "assist" anymore because the last occurrence has already been found.
This does not always work. Often, I get every occurrence of "assist," but in the current record only, even though the word exists in other remaining records that were returned with my original filters/query.
I am using a table to hold data relating to 3 very similar products, one distinction is that one of these items has a value in that remains constant. If I set this field to have a default value at table design level - all 3 units get this same value, which is incorrect.
I am using continuous forms and if I use VBA code in the Current() event I can prefill the corresponding text field with the default value .... but, it is quite easy to add additional rows without meaning to, the problem here is that if the user creates records in error selection of the record pointer will not permit its removal from within the form - even through AllowDeletions is enabled.
So, if I disable AllowAdditions in the form properties - the form now prevents any new rows being added to the form at all... which is what I expect.
However, I was hoping to add a command button to other form footer for the user to physically confirm before the record is added to the form but I dont know what function to call to add the new record to the form....
Basically I want to type the ID(key) of a record table in a unbound text box and then by pressing a command button to be able to bring up that record (in form view). I do not want to use a combo-box.
So what do i write as VB code in the Private Sub mybutton_Click()
Table name is [ACTION_ID], ID field name is [ACT_ID] & text box name is [TEXT_BOX]
I have a form called [Add or Edit Tag Numbers]. The primary key for the control source of this form is [TagNumber]. I have created a button on this form that opens a second form, [Add or Edit Calibrations], to a new record and carries the [TagNumber] through to the corresponding field on the [Add or Edit Calibrations] form.
Almost everything works. I click the button and the second form is opened to a new record, with the tag number on the first form carried through to the seond form. The only issue is that when I go back to the first form and try to close it, I get an error saying that I can't save the record. It is error 2169. This is especially strange because even if I exit after seeing this record, additions in both forms are saved. This is the code for the button, called [NewCalibration]
Private Sub cmdNewCalibration_Click() DoCmd.Save acForm, "Add or Edit Tag Numbers" DoCmd.OpenForm "Add or Edit Calibrations", acNormal DoCmd.GoToRecord acDataForm, "Add or Edit Calibrations", acNewRec Forms![Add or Edit Calibrations]![TagNumber] = [Forms]![Add or Edit Tag Numbers]![TagNumber] End Sub
How I can avoid getting this message? I would prefer to use a button over a subform.
I have a form named CORRES_TYP with 3 text boxes and a list box. I also have a separate table with 3 field from where the information I put in the form was saved.
In my form whenever I put information on the textbox at hit add record button, these information are saved in my table and will reflect on the listbox on my form below the textboxes. Also if I select a record in the Listbox the record I selected will apprear on the corresponding textbox in the same form.
My problem is that I have been trying to create a command button that will save and change the existing record everytime I select an item in the list box and modify the information through the textbox. Here are some infromation about my table and form:
Table name = CORRES_TYP Field 1 = CODE (Primary key, No Duplicates) Field 2 = DESCRIPTION Field 3 = FOLDER
Form name = CORRES_TYP Textbox 1 = CODE Textbox 2 = DESCRIPTION Textbox 3 = FOLDER Listbox name = LIST14
I have created Command buttons on forms with VBA code. Records GoTo previous and GoTo Next Record so both of working is good. But Next Record command is force to a new record. If suppose when we clicking on last record. It is go to new record without any message. So No need to force a new record with Next Record Command. Only just move to next record if there is no records show a message. Below mentioned both VBA codes so there is any changes on GoTo Next Record Code?
VBA Code: Go To Previous Record : DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acPrevious Go To Next Record : DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNext
