Forms :: How To Assign Variable Shipping Rates

Jan 21, 2014

I am using a basic Order form and Order Details subform to capture my information. Customer is selected, then Products and Quantities are filled in... the subform calculates the total price. This all works great. Then I have a problem.

I have some national customers that require shipping to multi regions. I would need to select the regions and it has to calculate a new case cost for each product for each area. Could be up to 100 (10 products x 10 areas) new calculated prices.

Then for other customers, I will use just the case cost for the whole order (multiple products) and add one shipping fee to cover the drop. 3 products and only 1 fee added to the total.

Currently, my Order Form uses a Tab page and the Order Details are on the first tab. I could put the Shipping Info on the second tab, I just don't know how to add up to 10 different shipping regions to generate 10 new prices or the one drop fee to the total price.

Modules & VBA :: Update Hourly Rates With Exceptions That Use A Different List Of Rates

Apr 4, 2014

tblTimeEntry records individual time slips for attorneys keeping track of their time. Each slip records the client, attorney, time, rate, and value (time * rate) of the slip.tblPeople holds all the timekeepers and their current rate. Their rates change once a year.tblCustomRate will hold the exceptions,

How I imagine tblCustomRate will be set up is as follows (and this may be how it's wrong):Columns for each timekeeper. Each record is a client entry. When a new time entry gets entered, as it gets saved into tblTimeEntry, it should check to see if the client number is one that has a record on tblCustomRate. If it does, it should find the column for the timekeeper and use that rate. could add columns to the tblPeople for each client that gets a custom rate and use IF statements to get it to add, but that's a lot of legwork and code for a few clients.

tblTimeEntry
TimeID (primary key)
ClientID
TKFN (Timekeeper First Name)
Rate
Value

tblPeople
PersonID (primary key)
TKFN
CurRate (Current rate)

If it matters, this is Access front end with SQL Express tables. It's few and far between that I set up new People and it would be few and far between that there would be any custom rates (currently, there would be 2 out of 2000). People's rates change, but the time slips they entered at their old rate should stay at their old rate. If they were only worth $100/hour in 2010, but now they're worth $200/hour, the 2010 slips stay at the $100/hour rate.

Assign Variable From SQL

Dec 28, 2005

I have a table set up like this:

tbl_original
account, invoice
11111, 1
22222, 1
33333, 5
44444, 3

I want to create a function module or something similar which will assign a variable to the max invoice # used on that table, using sql if possible. I tried something like this, but it's not working.

Public Function max()

Dim maxinvoice As String

maxinvoice = "SELECT Max(tbl_original.invoice) AS MaxOfinvoice" & _
"FROM tbl_original;"

MsgBox maxinvoice

End Function

I would like the msgbox to popup saying "5", since that is the max invoice # used based on the above table.

I don't have too much experience using modules on their own without forms and variables on the form to assign to, can someone make a suggestion?

Thanks in advance!

Cannot Assign A Variable

Nov 7, 2007

I have a simple combo box with two options - elective and emergency. They are set up on a continuous form.
When i try to choose a value it comes up with the message "You cannot assign a value to this object". I have checked the three criteria it mentions, object being on a form open in design view (no), value too large for field (no - text field with (defaulted) size of 50), control on a read -only form (no, form is editable).
The strange thing is as soon as you clear the error message box it lets you enter the value anyway.
Any ideas?

Assign Value To Variable On Other Form

Aug 16, 2013

I have set a "form-wide" variable on a certain form to contain integers. I want to populate this variable from a subform located on this form.

So, for example, if the form has an integer for CompanyID, I want to populate this variable from the subform so that when I am back on the main form I can use this variable with the populated variable. What is the syntax for this?

Jul 1, 2007

Hi,

I am getting this error 'You tried to assign the Null value to a variable that is not a Variant data type. (Error 3162)' I know why I am getting the error, I found out that Form and Subform should be implemented only with one-to-many relationships where the Subform is the many end. However, I have the opposite of that for a reason.

Is this bad practice? Is there anyway around it or to fix the error please?

Any help will be very much appreciated,
B

Queries :: Categorize Time Between Shipping And Repair Date

Apr 2, 2013

I have a repairs db that records [serial number] and [date in for repair], and other info.

I've been asked to make a report to summarize the number of units [serial number] that come back for repair by time interval between [ship date] and the first [date in for repair].

the [serial number] and [ship date] are in a linked excel file table which contains unique [serial number] entries.

The [serial number] and [date in for repair] are in the access table, there may be multiple [serial number]s entered with different [date in for repair] as in repaired multiple times.

1st query: I want to list all the [serial numbers] in the access table with only the earliest [date in for repair] returned.

2nd query: then I need to compare the 1st query results list of [serial numbers] and [date in for repair]to the excel table list of [serial numbers] and [ship dates],

I've found the =DateDiff('d'[ship date],[date in for repair])

I haven't done a query with two data sources before and not sure how to go about getting the DateDiff for each serial number

Once I get results from the DateDiff, for each serial number, I am comfortable handling the Sum(IIf statements to summarize the results and do the serial number range select criteria in the form.

Queries :: Print Shipping Labels - Hide Query Results

Jul 5, 2015

I have a button on a form which is used to print shipping labels. This button runs a Query and then a report using the code below.

DoCmd.RunSQL "Update BookInTable SET BookedOut = True WHERE BarCode ='" & Me![BarTxt] & "'"
DoCmd.OpenQuery "PrintLabelQuery"
DoCmd.OpenReport "Labels", acViewPreview
DoCmd.PrintOut , , , , 1
DoCmd.SetWarnings True

But I need both the query results and the report to not be seen. All I want to happen when clicking the button is that a label is printed.

Formula - Calculating Charges Based On Stepped Rates

Jun 20, 2014

Never tried complicated formulas in Access and at a bit of a loss... What I am trying to do is calculate a utility bill based on stepped rates.

For example:

Usage up to the first 500KHW is billed at .067 per KWH
Usage after the first 500KWH from 501 to 999 is billed at .044 per KWH
Usage from 1000 up is billed at .0318

So if my usage was 1200 KWH...

((500 x .067)+(500 x .044)+(200 x .0318)) = 61.86

I was assuming it would require an complex "if" function to split the 1200 into steps and then calculate charges per step?

Forms :: Can't Assign A Value To Object

May 6, 2013

I have an unbound form, with a subform datasheet (sfmStaffDS) - not linked to the parent form, which displays a list of all staff. There is another subform (sfmStaff), which displays data based on a field in the form which takes its value from the DA subform. To add a staff member I press the button and this clears the fields down as expected.

However, when I start entering data (in the First NAme field), I get the error as stated in the title. Interestingly, I can carry on and the data gets saved as 'normal'.I have used this technique before with success, except that the DS subform is linked to a value on the parent form.

Queries :: Calculating Rates Based On Two Fields - Type Conversion Failure

Apr 24, 2013

I have created a make table query and using expressions for two of the fields. I have set the field properties (format) to "Percent". The expressions are calculating rates based on two other fields. The expressions are currently as such:

PTD_CM_PGM_RATE: IIf((IsError([PTD_CM_REPT_PGM]/[PTD_CM_REPT_ER])),"0%",[PTD_CM_REPT_PGM]/[PTD_CM_REPT_ER])

I'm using the IIF function to avoid potential errors should one or both of the values ("PTD_CM_REPT_PGM" or "PTD_CM_REPT_ER") be zero.

However, when running the query, I am getting the "...type conversion failure is caused when the data in one or more fields doesn't match...." error.

Forms :: Error / You Can't Assign A Value To This Object

Dec 2, 2014

I'm building a simple database for storing records about books.

I'm currently working on one of the data entry forms. Part of this form is supposed to enable the user to add details about the book and the series that it belongs to (if it does belong to one).

The relationship is One-to-Many: One series can have many books. I've made the series part a sub form.

When I enter some data to test that it works, I get an error message when I try to add a new series using the sub form. It says:

"You can't assign a value to this object.
*The object may be a control on a read-only form.
*The object may be on a form that is open in Design view.
*The value may be too large for this field."

As far as I know there isn't anything wrong, so I'm not certain why this error message comes up. I think it may have something to do with the primary key being the AutoNumber data type, but I just click 'OK' and ignore it, and it works fine.

The database works as far as I can see, I just want the error message to stop appearing.

Forms :: Assign One Textbox For Two Fields

May 23, 2013

I'm new to access and I'm struggling with the transfer of a form we use for fieldwork. I want a technician to be able to come in from the field and enter data in a way that is visually similar to how the collected it. To do this, I have created a form that is structured like this:

View 1 View 2 View3 View4
Sediment % XX XX XX XX

In the table 'results' , I would like to collate the information in what I call 'flat format', which is structured like so:

Site Date Parameter Value

XX XX SedimentView1 XX
XX XX SedimentView2 XX
...

The thing is, I can only figure out how to assign a text box to a single field, i.e. value. What I need is for the field 'Parameter' to autofill based on the value-textbox name, e.g SedimentView1. Is there some simple way to do this?

Forms :: Vba Assign Text Box Control Source

May 30, 2013

I am working with textbox [DispCD] (a date field) on form [Contract]. There is a dropdown on combobox [Searchbox] for selecting the desired record. I am writing VBA in the [Searchbox] OnChange event. The control source for [DispCD] would normally be "=Searchbox.column(11)". If "column(11)" has a date, I want [DispCD] to show that date and then be locked. If "column(11)" does NOT have a date, I want [DispCD] to allow entry of a date with the date picker showing. I've tried to assign the control source to [DispCD] with this:

CSVal = Format(Forms![Contract]!SearchBox.Column(11), "ddd m/d/yyyy") (this works)
If CSVal = "" Then _
Forms![Contract]!DispCD.countrolsource = "=SearchBox.Column(11)"

I get "Object doesn't support this property or method" error.

If yes what is the correct syntax to use when the code is in a normal module as a public sub? I tried many possibilities and could not get it to work.

Forms![PersonalFm].Recordsource = Qry
