Forms :: How To Clear Up A Specific Error On Search Form
Jan 7, 2015
I have a search form that's slightly modified search form modeled after the one available here on this site. It's a main form with a list box. I use the listbox to narrow down the results I want from the search function.
The search details are shown in a sub form that contains sub-sub forms
As seen in the code below, I am using the listbox to set a filter on the subform . Works famously until I search for something that does not exist in the database. I then receive runtime error 3075.
I believe it's related to the way I'm showing the details in the subform (by enabling a filter). If there is no record in the database that match the search criteria, I don't want any error messages or pop-ups and preferably would like the listbox to be blank.
Attached a screenshot of my form.
red = main form
green = subform
blue = sub-subforms
tan = obscuring the search results
Code:
Private Sub SearchFor_Change()
Dim vSearchString As String
vSearchString = SearchFor.Tex
SrchText.Value = vSearchString
Me.SearchResults.Requery
So I'm not new to Access but I am to 2010. It has been a bit "challenging". Here's my first question:
1.) I'm trying to search on a field by using a command button. I basically want to click the button and the following message pops up: Enter MRN.
2.) When the MRN is entered, I would like the form to filter on all records that have this MRN.
3.) In old versions of Access, I would create a Macro for this and then call the Macro in the form.
4.) I've tried the FindRecord action in the Macro but it does not work. I actually came across several actions that don't seem to be working properly (getting error messages).
5.) In my head, this should be one of the EASIEST things to do. I've done this before in several different databases. I will admit it has been a few years since I have used Access for this (ie. building forms, macros etc.). I've primarly used it to pull in a data set and then run some queries to get the data I need quickly versus using Excel.
I have a search form where I enter a value and click on a command button. All records that correspond to that value are displayed (continuous form). Works fine.
However, when I exit the form and then go back in, the data from the previous search still populates the screen. The search value/field is blank, but all the previous records are still displayed. How can I clear those values everytime I enter the form (or exit the form) ?
I have 5 textboxes and a multiline textbox in a form in my Access Database. I am going to type several keywords in those textboxes and I am going to type an article in the multiline textbox.
What I need to do is I want to calculate the keyword density in the article. I can do that if i know how to search the whole text in the article and count the specific word. And I want a function to count all the words in the article too.
I want to hyperlink from a query direct to the relevant record in a specific form. I have a hyperlink field in the form which shows up in the query. When clicked in the query, this hyperlinks to the form but I cannot make it select the correct record in the form.How do I get it to select the correct record?
I am working on form where the user selects either "IN" or "OUT" from a dropdown of field name "CheckOut" in Frm1.
If they select "OUT" they will in turn need to fill in 2 additional fields. When they change the value back from "OUT" to "IN",
I want those other fields to be cleared of data for just this record so next time they change back to "OUT" from "IN" those 2 additional fields are already blank.
how to read a specific line in a CSV file (using VBA), to see if the phrase "There are no records available." is present.
If it is present, then I'm going to do a debug.print stating that there are no records to load - and then the script will move on to the next file. If the phrase isn't present, then I'm going to upload the file to Access, parse the information, and then upload it to a CRM. (I already have the latter portion of the code up and running....I just need to account for the first part, where I can determine if the file has data or not).
The structure of the file never changes. The first row is composed of eight column headers (Post Date, Card Number, Card Type, Auth Date, Batch Date, Reference Number, Reason, Amount) and (if) the phrase "There are no records available." is present, it will show up on the second row, in the first column (under Post Date).
I would like to create a form that allows me to search for a folder on my desk top, then once located i can transfer that file to a specific location on another drive, Similar to the Browse / upload function you see on many applications.I am using Access 2003. Is this possible??
I am trying to allow a calendar to search through a text box with a large amount of data in which will have headings using the date so i wanted to use a calendar search. Hopefully this will be be like the find function in word where you type (or in this case select a date) then click search or next which will take you to that specific date.
I have a access 2003 database, and i am wondering if i can't setup a search function in a form that will open a file in windows explorer?
What i would like to do is have a test box that i enter in a number for example: 1234 then have a button named "Search" hit that button and it opens a corresponding file in windows explorer named 1234, or just opens that folder directly..
I created a search form (using code from here) that searches serveral fields and displays the results in a listbox. I also created a clear button to clear the fields, including the listbox. I can search all day and it works fine, and the CLEAR button clears out the fields fine but once I have clicked the CLEAR button, I cannot search anymore. I don't get any results anymore (until I close and reopen). It must be something simple that I am overlooking so any hints would be appreciated. Here is my code (sorry it's long!):
Private Sub cmdClearForm_Click() On Error GoTo Err_cmdClearForm_Click
Dim I As Integer
' Cycle through the form's controls, testing for text, ' and clear each field. For I = 0 To Me.Count - 1 If TypeOf Me(I) Is TextBox Then Me(I) = "" ElseIf TypeOf Me(I) Is ListBox Then Me(I).RowSource = " " End If Next
End Sub Private Sub cmdSearch_Click() On Error GoTo Err_cmdSearch_Click
Dim strSQL As String, strOrder As String, strWhere As String, strOrderChoice As String Dim db As DAO.Database 'Dim qryDef As QueryDef Set db = CurrentDb()
If Not IsNull(Me.txtMacAddr1) Then strWhere = strWhere & "(tblAsset.MacAddr1) like '*" & Me.txtMacAddr1 & "*' and " strOrderChoice = "tblAsset.MacAddr1" End If
If Not IsNull(Me.txtMacAddr1) Then strWhere = strWhere & "(tblAsset.MacAddr2) like '*" & Me.txtMacAddr1 & "*' and " strOrderChoice = "tblAssest.MacAddr2" End If
If Not IsNull(Me.txtSerialNum) Then strWhere = strWhere & "(tblAsset.SerialNum) like '*" & Me.txtSerialNum & "*' and " strOrderChoice = "tblAsset.SerialNum" End If
If Not IsNull(Me.txtIPAddress) Then strWhere = strWhere & "(tblIPAddresses.IPAddress) like '*" & Me.txtIPAddress & "*' and " strOrderChoice = "tblIPAddresses.IPAddress" End If
If Not IsNull(Me.txtHostName) Then strWhere = strWhere & "(tblIPAddresses.HostName) like '*" & Me.txtHostName & "*' and " strOrderChoice = "tblIPAddresses.HostName" End If
If Not IsNull(Me.txtJackNumber) Then strWhere = strWhere & "(tblLocation.JackNumber) like '*" & Me.txtJackNumber & "*' and " strOrderChoice = "tblLocation.JackNumber" End If
If Not IsNull(Me.txtCircuitID) Then strWhere = strWhere & "(tblLocation.CircuitID) like '*" & Me.txtCircuitID & "*' and " strOrderChoice = "tblLocaton.CircuitID" End If
If Not IsNull(Me.txtBuilding) Then strWhere = strWhere & "(tblLocation.Building) like '*" & Me.txtBuilding & "*' and " strOrderChoice = "tblLocation.Building" End If
I'm having trouble getting my form to be "blank" except for the labels upon loading. I've tried putting in some code "on load" but it doesn't clear everything. I haven't had this trouble on some of my other db's, the only difference here is it's a switchboard. I don't know if that matters.
I have a timesheet form that pulls from a query that pulls from a table I want to clear my daily charges and reset back to the default value of 0 when my form opens ...
I have a tabular form that is based on a select statement (Query) in the source property. It filters & sorts from this select statement. permanently
I have just added a Me.Filter = "[Form1].[InDate] = #" & MyValue & "# " Me.OrderBy = "Indate DESC"
This all works fine, filters & sorts on the existing results.However this new filter & sort seems to remain no matter what I do.I have used every variation one me.filter ="" with Me.FilterOn = True, False & every combination.
Me.Filter="" & Me.FilterOn = False does initially seem to clear the lsit to show all records but as soon as type anything that filters the Form on the original, existing underlying select statement the extra Filter Property & Sort properties are occupied with the last filter/sort.
I have manually deleted any remaining Filter Or Sort properties direct from design view, saved, compacted & saved again.Once I use the new me.filter it will always returned as soon an any filter on the form is applied.I definately am not setting it again anywhere. Is there something better than me.filter ="", seen clearallfilters mentioned but not sure if this would apply just to the current form but reluctant to use a blanket clear as I do have quite a lot of other things going on.
Not sure when but many months (If not years) ago my form source stopped being a query and started using the query (sql) direct from the source property.I have left it this way as not sure if any consequence of moving back but don't remember how or how it happened. What are the pros cons of using a separate query.
I am looking at the public function routine, that validates the password entry. I want to know how i can make a message pop up with the specific error the user has made on entry.
Public Function ValidatePwd(varPassword As Variant) As Boolean Dim blnValid As Boolean Dim blnValidCriteria As Boolean Dim intChar As Integer
I have got a form with a couple of dlookups on it, when they return an error it pops the debug message up and if there is a value in the field already it just leaves that value there.
How can I suppress the message and clear the field and move on to the next line of code?
Using Access XP, I have a number of unbound combo boxes I use as search tools to locate specific records. Here is the code for one of them:
Private Sub Combo40_AfterUpdate() Me.JobNumber.SetFocus If Not IsNull(Me.Combo40) Then DoCmd.FindRecord Me.Combo40 End If End Sub
I think I need to add something along the lines of:
Me.Combo40.SetFocus Me.Combo40.Text = ""
To get it to clear the combo box after the FindRecord has executed. However, when I drop those 2 lines in either before or after the "End If", I get this:
"RunTime Error: 2115. The Macro or Function set to the BeforeUpdate Validation rule property for this field is preventing MS Access from saving the data in the field."
So, I hope this doesn't mean that you can't clear the combo box choice because it interferes with the FindRecord part of the code...Anyone know how to get the result I'm looking for? To define it clearly: I want the combo box selection area to clear the choice after the find record has succesfully completed. I don't want to clear the choices, just not show anything after a search completes.
Thanks in advance. I'm sure this one isn't that hard, but it is eluding me and I've only been doing access for about 3 months.
I have a search combo box to search for a field on my form. But it just goes to that particular record. The combo box is for client id and it has more than one record. How can I have it return just the records pertaining to the client id choosen in the combo box.
I get this strange behavior in multiple forms I have. When I click on a field for the first time, I get a quick popup that immediatly disappear. It only get the popup when I enter fields I added for search purpose (a listbox which has a query as source, which I build with the value from another input field that the user type in).
I get the error when : -I enter the input field for the first time -I type in a value for the first time -I select an element in the listbox -Also when I open a form for the first time (happens only for the first opened form)
I don't even have time to see what it is in fact. I had to time a screenshot to see what it was.
So, I get an error like this : "Search referenced file : MSOUTL.OLB". No text in the msgbox, only that title.
[URL] .....
I checked google, found various reference to Outlook stuff. Problem is, I don't use any outlook stuff. I don't get any of those popup when I open the projet under Access 2013, but under Access 2010 I get them. I created the project under Access 2013, but users will use Access 2010.
