Forms :: Listbox Populating With Comma Separated Values
Jan 16, 2014
I use Access 2003. I am trying to populate a list box with the names of files found in specific folder in my computer. The problem is that if the file name has a comma (,) in it, so the name is being separated in two parts - first what is before a comma and second what is after. I need them exactly as they appear in directory in order to open the files from this list box.

If I have a text box (Text1) on my form with comma separated values entered i.e. 100,120,250,300 what would be the easiest way to enter these into a table column with a button click event. I would like to enter these values into my table tb_test under column Values.

I have a single 'text' box on a form that captures test scores. The person inputting the test scores puts in all of the scores separated by commas (77, 85, 100, 75.5).. Up to 6 test scores can be placed in this single text box. The field is formatted for text. What I propose to do is take the numbers in the text box and average them out and then display the test scores average in a number field named 'avescores' next to this field in the form. Once the inputer puts the series of scores into the text box, they would hit an 'update' button next to this box to 'update' the 'avescores' box. Right now they use a number pad and add up the numbers manually then place the average into the avescores box....

I've current got two tables, one with Products and the other with Suppliers. The products table has a column in which I may indicate Supplier IDs that carry the product. I'd like to make a report that groups the Products by the Supplier that carries them and I'm having some trouble. The way I see this working is to relate the Supplier ID found in the Product table with the auto generated Supplier ID in the supplier table.
My trouble is this, when the field is set to text I'm able to enter values separated by commas no problem but I can't report on them because I'd be relating a number to a string. How may I overcome this?

I have an access table for SampleTests. Each sample may have multiple tests carried out on it. Each test is one record in the access table and a sample may have multiple records therefore depending on how many tests are to be carried out on this sample. I need to create a query that would have sampleID as one of the fields which it gets from the SampleTests table and then I need the second column to have all the tests associated with that sample ID in the format test1,test2, etc. but I cannot see how I can get access to put these records together separated by a comma.

I created a multivalue list in my table. It contains a list of names and a checkbox. I designed the form based on this and am able to check off multiple names. When I go back to look at the table, it stores in each name separated by a comma. So far so good.
When I create a report to display the data, it displays it as 1,2,3..etc., instead of the names separated by a comma.
What do I need to do to display the names ?

I'm using Access 2007.
So far I have a Multi Select enabled list on which the user selects the serial numbers they want. They then click the "Report" button which will trigger a query based on the selected serial numbers to create a report on those serial numbers.
I have the code for the multi-select list working already. It creates a string of comma separated values that are the serial numbers which are selected in the list. Somehow I need to pass this string to my query so it can use it as a filter.
Here is some of my code:
Code:
Option Compare Database
Option Explicit
Private Sub Form_Current()
Dim oItem As Variant
Dim bFound As Boolean
[Code] ....
Here's my current query in SQL:
Then finally how to I get the query to execute and create a report based on all of this?

Firstly, is it possible to hide unchecked values in a listbox? I have a user with several roles and I want to only show the ticked roles in the listbox.
Secondly, can you create a hyperlink on listbox values? i.e, if I click on "Manager" in the roles listbox, it follows that to another form and opens the record about managers?

So I have a multi-select listbox with tick boxes and values in on my form. Is it possible to make so only the checked values are showing up and then not display the tick box?
I know I can use a combo box to display several values, but using a listbox like this would be easier on the eye.
Is it possible to use code to get a text box to show the selected items in the list box?

The database I'm working on stores product records. To support the user narrow down which product they want to use, the navigation form has a listbox that looks to several combox values to filter the records it displays. As the user selects values for additional comboxes, the list of products from the listbox is refined. What I would like to do is set the comboxes up so that they also have to check the listbox to determine which records they should display.
For example:
Comboxes: Customer, Species
Starting out the listbox shows all products. The user wants to find a particular product that is sold to "Harly Quinn's Crab Imporium". They select "Harly Quinn's Crab Imporium" from the customer combobox. The listbox updates to show only products sold to Harly Quinn. The database currently has this functionality. What I want to add comes next:
The user determines that there are still too many records being displayed in the listbox, so he/she attempts to refine the search further by selecting a species from the species combobox. Currently all species from the species table are selectable from the species combobx, meaning that if the user selects a species that isn't sold to Harly Quinn, that the listbox will show no records. What I would like the combobox to do is refer first to the listbox and determine which species are still viable options based on the records available from the listbox.

Hi
I have a DAO recordset(rcdSearch) which contains a number of fields(eg
UNIQUE_NUMBER, AREA and SITE_NAME). Assuming the recordset is populated(in this case I know it is), how can I populate a listbox with the data? I have tried the following with no joy
me.listBox.RowSource = "rcdSearch" 'puts string "rcdSearch" in column header
me.listBox.RowSource = rcdSearch ' returns type mismatch
me.listBox.RowSource = rcdSearch!UNIQUE_NUMBER ''puts unique number in column header row
me.listBox.Column(0) = rcdSearch!UNIQUE_NUMBER ' object required error msg
I have even tried using the SQL string that generates the Recordset, this does not return any results. :confused:
I would be grateful for any help on this issue, as it has been doing my head in for days!

Hi
I've created a few listboxes before, which have all worked fine, but this one however keeps throwing up an error message.
Run-time error '3464': Data type mismatch in criteria expression
Can someone help with this, here is my code, and the highlighted section it debugs.
Dim db As Database
Dim rst As DAO.Recordset
Dim sSQL As String
Dim EmpID As Integer
Me.List35.RowSource = ""
EmpID = [Forms]![frmWork_Placement]![Emp_ID]
Set db = CurrentDb()
sSQL = " SELECT Object_ID, Emp_ID, Name1, Name2, Name3, Name4, Name5" & _
" FROM dbo_tblEmpContacts WHERE Emp_ID = '" & EmpID & "'"
Set rst = db.OpenRecordset(sSQL, dbOpenDynaset, dbSeeChanges)
Me.List35.AddItem rst![Name1]
Me.List35.AddItem rst![Name2]
Me.List35.AddItem rst![Name3]
Me.List35.AddItem rst![Name4]
Me.List35.AddItem rst![Name5]
rst.Close
Set rst = Nothing
Thanks

I have a multi-select listbox (called PotentialItems) which behaves perfectly unless one of the fields has a null value in it, in which case I get an error 13, "Type mismatch" in the following code. It is valid business-wise for column 9 to be null.
Code:
Dim varItem As Variant
Dim dblTargetPrice As Double
With Me.PotentialItems
For Each varItem In .ItemsSelected
If Not IsNull(varItem) Then
dblTargetPrice = Nz(.Column(9, varItem), 0) '<----- Error here
End If
Next
End With

I am currently trying to make a form which will generate a report for the users. Currently the form has 3 combo boxes where users select which fields they want displayed from the table in the report. They also have sorting options next to them (Asc or Desc). I am now trying to put in a multi select list box under each combo box to allow users to filter the report to their liking. Currently I am trying to pull distinct values from the specific field of the table and display them in the listbox for users to select.
I have tried using vba to set me.filter1.rowsource = SELECT DISTINCT me.combo1 FROM EVAP_Database, but this doesnt seem to work. I have also tried a few other codes and still no luck.
Table: EVAP Database
Combo: Combo1
Filter Listbox: Filter1

I am trying to create a list of values in a field separated by commas. I have done this in a query as follows:
[Field1]&", "&[Field2]&", "&[Field3] and so on.
However, when Field2 is null, the result is two commas between Field1 and Field2, but I only need one. What function can I use to eliminate the extra commas when fields used in the concatenation are null?

So here's my problem. I'm trying to update a listbox in excel with values that are being pushed in a table in access. The problem is that there are repeated values in the column in access, but I only want to show each value once, regardless of how many times it appears in the table. I would give a code sample but I'm having trouble getting started...
Any help is appreciated.

I have a form with a Listbox which lists Customers and a variety of customer information
I also have a table on the form that lists the donations that customers have made.
How can I populate the Table based on the customer that is selected in the Listbox?
There is an ID field that links Customers with Donations
I'm guessing I need some code in the ListBox_CLick() event that triggers the table to query or to Load with a query based on the ListBox.Column(0) which contains the ID?

I'm trying to populate a listbox from a recordset. I will explain what I'm trying to achieve.
I have a (continuous) form with some data from a table. On the form header I have a listbox, showing all (distinct) customers from that form.
The user is able to do some filtering. That all works great. But I want to populate the listbox with ONLY the customers on the form AFTER filtering.
One way I thought might me the solution was using RecordClone. But I'm stuck there. It must be something simple for an expert. I'm not entirely a newbie, at least not to VBA. Is there an easy way to refer the listbox' recordset to the actual recordset on the form?

Hi,
Hopefully this is a really simple requiring a simple answer.... hopefully
On one of my forms I have a combo box thats values are generated by a parameter query. On my computer and a couple of others i tested it (on the same network) this combo box populates fine, but i put it on a couple of other computers today and it doesn't show any values. I checked and the query itself runs fine, plus a combo box that runs off a table populates fine.
not too sure if its relative but the database is split with the tables sitting on the network share and the database sitting on the main computer. or perhaps this could have something to do with blocking unsafe expressions.. i am not sure
any help on this would be greatly greatly appreciated

I have a Machine Running Conditions database that records running conditions for 2 machines. The table is set up like this
Code:
LotNumber Parameter Condition
130506m11 Screwspeed 100
130506m11 StockTemp 50
130506m11 KniveSpeed 75
In reality there are many more machine parameters (about 30). We have two machines that usually are set with 2 different set combinations of parameters. The combinations vary at times but are usually one or the other
Currently the user is going in and selecting the parameters from a combobox manually for each lot number.
To save him time and work, I want those fields auto populated with the parameters for a machine. So the user will hit a button for machine 1 or 2 and the parameter rows will fill with that machine's correct parameters.
