How To Find Specific Database Object

May 3, 2005

I am wondering if there is a quick way to find a database object (table, query, form, report) other than having to scroll through them in the database window.

E.g. I have many many queries and when I need to find one to make changes to it, it often takes me a while to find it when scrolling thru the queries in the database window.

Has anyone ever programmed anything whereby you can type in the object type and name and then it will be highlighted in the database window?

This would be a great time saver.

Thanks,
BJS

Forms :: Object Doesn't Contain Automation Object Table Name

Jan 5, 2015

I am currently building a database for the company I work for that is fairly similar to the Northwind Database; however it is made from scratch so hopefully some of the common problems with that database won't find their way into mine.My problem is that when I go to my Orders form, I pick a customer from the main form, which creates a record on the Orders table. When I then go to the subform to choose a product/line item, I get the error in my title ("The LinkMasterFields property setting has produced this error: 'The object doesn't contain the Automation object 'OrdersT.") as soon as a product is chosen from the drop down list.

Forms :: Subform - Object Doesn't Contain Automation Object

Jul 17, 2013

The error is:

The LinkMasterFields property setting has produced this error: 'The object doesn't contain the Automation object 'tblIndividual.' '

Then it also gives me the same one on another table.

I think it has something to do with the link master/child fields. I've tried all kinds of relationships with the three tables and can't figure it out.

I've tried uploading the database here but it won't. It's on my Sky Drive.

Forms :: Find Hex Or RGB Value For Blue Color That Access 2010 Uses By Default For Buttons On Forms?

Sep 5, 2014

Where can I find the Hex or RGB value for the blue colour that Access 2010 uses by default for buttons on forms? I need to change some buttons to yellow (I know the code for that) but later change them back to the previous shade of blue, which is shown in the Properties pane "Accent 1, Lighter 40%".

By clicking in the standard colors area at the bottom of the colour chooser I can find a very similar blue #D6DFEC but it doesn't look quite right. And the "accent" colour does not give me a Hex value.Is that "usual" blue even one colour? How can I reset a button to that style having changed it?

Forms :: MS Office Access DB Can't Find A Record

Jan 29, 2014

I have a main form (unbound) and a main form (bound) and then a subform (or a main form;subform;subform).The main form has the following SQL;-

SELECT Detail.*, Hazards.*, HowHarmed.*, Section.*
FROM PSR RIGHT JOIN (Hazards INNER JOIN ([Section] INNER JOIN (HowHarmed INNER JOIN Detail ON HowHarmed.ID = Detail.HowHarmedID) ON Section.ID = Detail.[Subject Area]) ON Hazards.ID = Section.detailID) ON PSR.ID = Detail.PSR;

This form appears to work fine. Essentially, there is a control on the unbound form whereby the user selects the section and it populates the respective form with the various 'detail' of the various records.My tables are as follows;-

Risk Assessments
Detail
Section
HowHarmed
Hazards
PSR
PLR
Staff

In the subform there are records from Riskassessments, which is the table in the source property of this subform (and not on the main form) with a link to PSR of which is on the mainform. Again, these appear to work if the record is entered via the tables - all the tables appear to be linked correctly from their respective dropdowns (+ sign) but when I go to add a new record in this subform, I get the error "The link masterfields property has produced this error: 'The object doesn't contain the automation object ID'." When I try to update from this entry the following message is presented;-"The ms Office access database engine cannot find a record in the table 'Detail' with key matching field(s) 'DetailID'.

The SQL for this subform is as follows;-

SELECT Detail.*, PLR.*, RiskAssessments.*
FROM (Detail INNER JOIN RiskAssessments ON Detail.ID = RiskAssessments.DetailID) LEFT JOIN PLR ON RiskAssessments.PLR = PLR.ID;

Forms :: Unable To View Object Properties In Form Design View (Access 2010)

May 16, 2014

Why the ability to view the properties of an object within a form is not available when you double click on it in design view?

I was happily working away double clicking on a command button to edit some code when for some reason the next time I tried to edit it did not open up for me.

I was unable to access it even by right clicking on the object & selecting properties as that also appears to be disabled, not greyed out or anything but just does nothing when selected.

Have I inadvertently changed a setting somewhere that prevents the properties from being displayed?

Queries :: Find A Way For Access To Find Unique Dates And Unique Names?

Aug 1, 2014

I have been working on a simple data base for some time now (beginner level) and am still trying to improve it. I would like to do something but before that I would like to have your opinion to know if it is even possible?I have a query QryMainReport:

Start Date/Time
End Date/Time
Employee

At the moment this is what the format of my report looks like (I removed other unnecessary fields):

StartTime----------EndTime---------------Employee
12/06/2014 01:00--12/06/2014 03:00------John Smith
12/06/2014 04:00--12/06/2014 06:00------Jane Doe
13/06/2014 02:00--13/06/2014 05:00------John Smith
13/06/2014 08:00--13/06/2014 08:00------Jane Doe

I would like to do as a report. (Dates would always be from Sunday to Saturday). I am not sure it is possible to do that. I suppose first it would mean:I would have to do a query to separate the times from the dates?I would have to find a way for Access to find the unique dates and unique names?Does it mean I have to use cross tab queries?

Object Library Not Registered/ActiveX Component Can't Create Object

Jun 9, 2005

Hello

I am using Access 2003(11.6355.6360) SPI

When I attempt to create a new DB - by performing Blank Database I immediately get a message 'Object Library not registered'.

If I 'OK' that box and try to create a table, I can do so - create Table in design view.

When I then try to Import external data - an excel file I get the message 'ActiveX component Can't create object'.

I have looked ob various sites for help and forum information regarding these errors but have found nothing conclusive, with specidfic regard to Access 2003.

The version has been loaded on my machine about 1 year as part pf Office Professional but this is the first time I have attempted to run Access itself.

Does any forum member have any ideas as to how this problem could be resolved.

Thank You

Rgds

General :: ACCESS Object References

Mar 3, 2014

I am cleaning up a database that has been around for some time and I wish to be able to check for references within REPORTS/VBA Module code/ Form Designs etc. anywhere there is likely to be a reference to either an Access TABLE or QUERY.... I know there is the 'Object Dependencies' function within Access that will go some way to telling you what relies on what, but this is simply not comprehensive enough in that it doesn't go down to Form design level where further references can hide...

Countless times I have checked and subsequently deleted tables that I considered redundant... only to find later on there was some SQL Source reference to a table or query buried in the design of a form that I had overlooked....

Any way to definitively check and to ensure that all traces of a specific table or query are accounted for...?

Forms :: Can't Assign A Value To Object

May 6, 2013

I have an unbound form, with a subform datasheet (sfmStaffDS) - not linked to the parent form, which displays a list of all staff. There is another subform (sfmStaff), which displays data based on a field in the form which takes its value from the DA subform.To add a staff member I press the button and this clears the fields down as expected.

However, when I start entering data (in the First NAme field), I get the error as stated in the title. Interestingly, I can carry on and the data gets saved as 'normal'.I have used this technique before with success, except that the DS subform is linked to a value on the parent form.

I'm working on a query that lists all the queries in an Access database, and I would like the query to show the object description which is displayed when you right-click an object and display the object's properties. For queries, this is a text box just below the query name in the properties window.

So far, all I have is:

Code:
SELECT ID, Name FROM mSysObjects;

I would like to have something like:

Code:
SELECT ID, Name, Description FROM mSysObjects;

Forms :: Error / You Can't Assign A Value To This Object

Dec 2, 2014

I'm building a simple database for storing records about books.

I'm currently working on one of the data entry forms. Part of this form is supposed to enable the user to add details about the book and the series that it belongs to (if it does belong to one).

The relationship is One-to-Many: One series can have many books. I've made the series part a sub form.

When I enter some data to test that it works, I get an error message when I try to add a new series using the sub form. It says:

"You can't assign a value to this object.
*The object may be a control on a read-only form.
*The object may be on a form that is open in Design view.
*The value may be too large for this field."

As far as I know there isn't anything wrong, so I'm not certain why this error message comes up. I think it may have something to do with the primary key being the AutoNumber data type, but I just click 'OK' and ignore it, and it works fine.

The database works as far as I can see, I just want the error message to stop appearing.

Forms :: Copying Data From One Object To Another

May 31, 2013

I have a form Based on a tables called:-

TBLInvoice which contains to fields relative to the question
UseDefaultDescOfServices = Yes/No Type
DescriptionOfServices = Long Text Type with Rich Text Enabled

And second table called TBLCustomerPOs which contains a field
DefaultDescriptionOfServices = Long Text Type with Rich Text Enabled

What I am trying to do is if the UseDefaultDescOfServices = Yes then copy the data in DefaultDescriptionOfServices to DescriptionOfServices and make the field read only and turn off the boarder on the field. If it set to no then the user can enter his own data, turn on boarder and make the field editable.

However I am failing at the first hurdle, i.e. I cannot copy the data. Below is what I have tried to do but it doesn’t do anything.

If [TBLInvoice]![UseDefaultDescOfServices] = -1 Then
[TALInvoice]![DescriptionOfServices] = [TBLCustomerPOs]![DefaultDescriptionOfServices]
End If
