Forms :: Make Beep Sound When Try To Type Into Locked Textbox Control
Jan 31, 2015
Nothing else to explain really. How can I get my database to make a beep sound when something is trying to be typed into a locked textbox control?
This is so that my users can know that it's locked (much like when the delete button is pressed on a new record).

I am using Access 2010 and I have my tables hidden in the navigation pane (I don't have any concerns about users finding the tables to make edits), however I am looking to "lock" all fields on a form once a user saves the record. The concern is that when they go to enter a new record they may end up on a previous record and overwrite the information. My thought was to create a checkbox on the table that I can edit each week to lock records. At that point, what type of code can I create or use that will lock records on the form?

I have an Access 2010 database where we have a SQL Linked Table with a column that is nVARCHAR(20) Not Null data type. We have created a form for data entry. Currently when the user tries to erase a value or choose not to define a value we get the following error.
"You tried to assign the Null value to a variable that is not a Variant data type."
This field should accept a blank value "" as the user may not want to set the value. We do not have control over the DB schema, so how can I work around this issue in access?

I am mid way through a Access db and have a solid idea what i want from a form. The idea is for a rota display and edit form.
a tab control with 5 tabs (-2 weeks, -1 week, current week, + 1 week, + 2 weeks) and when the user clicks it lists all the employees (Employee Table) with any found rota entrys (Rota Table) populating into a text box type table with employees information blank where no rota information has been entered.
then the user can edit / add shift information from that table and hit save.
the main rota information is inputted by an excel import but this is done once a month and adhoc changes will be needed (holidays absence etc)
the only thing i found like what i want is a continuous form (which ive never used before but been told that wont go in a tab control)
How i would accomplish this (code snippets - doesnt have to be detailed just the fundamental functions so i can add modify to suit the information the sql's i already have its just the form controls.)

I have 3 tables, tblClients, tblClientDetails, and tblSchedulingDetails.
I have a field in tblClientDetails to contain the client number from tblClients, and I have two fields in tblSchedulingDetails to contain the client number and the client details number.
I then created a form that holds most of the fields for all of the tables mentioned above to enter new client names, new client address info, and basic client scheduling info.
Now, I have set the default values using the property sheet in design view for the following:
ClientNum > ClientNum_tblClientDetails and
ClientNum > ClientNum_tblSchedulingDetails and
ClientDetailsNum > ClientDetailsNum_tblSchedulingDetails
I promise this is not a riddle...
Here's the quandary - ClientNum_tblClientDetails is autofilling from tblClients, and ClientDetailsNum_tblSchedulingDetails is autofilling from tblClientDetails, but ClientNum_tblSchedulingDetails is not autofilling in spite of the fact that the default value is set with =[ClientNum].
I then created a modal dialogue form with the fields from tblClients and tblClientDetails with a command button that opens another modal that contains the fields from tblSchedulingDetails, set the appropriate default values, and the ClientNum_tblSchedulingDetails autofills as needed.
The question at hand is, why do I have to use modal dialogue forms to perform this action and cannot do it in one single form?

I have an application designed for an 1280x 1024 screen working just fine. Unfortunately need hs arisen to run it on a widescreen laptop, with less than 1024 in y-direction.
On the front pge I have a form and subform. I shrink the subform vertically and then anchor it with a "stretch down" and everything is hunky dory. But, on the min operation page accessed form front page, I have a tb control with 4 subforms, and access to the bottom line under the form is essential in each case.
A tab-control has no anchoring properties, so how to make it shrink nevertheless? Essentially, imagine a form, at the bottom there is tab control, in it is a subform. How to accommodate smaller screens by shrinking the subform and the tab control?

I have a form with a subform which resides in a tabbed control. In that subform, I have a textbox in the footer that sums values in the detail section of the subform.
I have a textbox on my main form that should display the same data that is in my subform footer textbox, but it is giving me the #name? error.
This is the expression in my subform footer textbox (which returns the correct result):
TxtSubtotalHQPCalc -
=Sum([ActualHQPCalc])
And the expression in my main form textbox (which returns #name?):
txtActualHQPValue -
=([subfrmHQPProject].[Form]![TxtSubtotalHQPCalc])
I have verified that my subform name and textbox names are all accurate. This is very frustrating because I am using this exact same method in a different database with no problems!

I have a form, with a tab control on it. Each tab has a subform to display data. One tab is meant to be a summary tab of the rest, so I want to pull data from certain controls on each of the other tabs to display on the Summary tab.
If I set the ControlSource to Forms!subfrmLABOUR!txtTotalHours.Value the control just displays #Name?
I assume that means it can't reference the ControlSource. Is it just a syntax thing? I've tried various methods, but no luck.

I have to tables:
Table 1 contains "cases picked"
Table 2 contains "cases required"
i have a query with info populated from those 2 tables:field "results" shows the results of this calculation: "cases required"-"cases picked"="results".In this query I have a conditional format stating: If true, displays text "ok" and the field will be green, if false, displays text "alert" and the field will be red.
Then I have this query in a subform (a form within another form),I would like to have a code or a formula for this query, where it would play a sound if (and only in this case) the value of "cases picked" is bigger than the value in "cases required"
This is how it works, you open the main form, start using a barcode scanner to scan cases, everytime you scan each case, the subform is refreshed and adds cases, and shows results, and shows how many cases you are missing or how many cases you are over, but this is only in the screen, i would like to have a sound in this subform, so in case you pick more cases than required, a loud sound is played as an alert, i still can't figure out where to put the solution, if as a formula in the query, or a code in the subform.

Im trying create a new form to add our current database that will password protect excel, word and if possible pdf documents when they are dragged onto it.
For now I only have 2 boxes 1 containing the password to be applied and the other to drag the file onto.
I have it all working so once its dragged on it works out if its a word doc, opens a hidden instance of word which then resaves it with a coded password.
The problem comes when change it so the user enters the password to protect it, when they enter a password or click on the drag box it doesn't allow the drag. it seems once they have entered the record the drag option is not available anymore.

This is going to be extremely frustrating for all parties involved, because there's no error message - or any hint as to what's going on.
I have a form, frmSub, that has comboboxs linked to fields in two different tables, Products and PurchaseDetails. All the comboboxes linked to Products are working fine, but when I try and enter anything into the ones connected to PurchaseDetails all I get is a 'beep' and nothing happens.
I've definitely included all the appropriate fields in the record source of the form. I have no idea what else to try.
Here's the code for the record source query of the form. PurchaseDetail.Price and PurchaseDetail.Quantity are the fields not working:
Code:SELECT Products.Product, Products.Size, Products.Brand, Products.UnitOfMeasure, Products.ProductID, PurchaseDetail.Price, PurchaseDetail.QuantityFROM Products INNER JOIN PurchaseDetail ON Products.ProductID = PurchaseDetail.ProductID;

I found the attached example a while back (can't find the site again though ) and it calculates a moving average. I've hacked out the parts I need for my own work and I can create my moving average query without an issue.
However, I need to extract the MA data into a table so planned on using append. I kept getting type errors so I tried make table to see what type it was creating and it appears to be Short Text rather than a number.
I've added an extra button and Make Table query to the example.
As far as I can tell from the code, the moving average value when calculated is a Single. However, when I write it to the table, its a Short Text.
How do I make the created Table use Number Type for my calculated moving average?
Using Access 2013

I'm working on a report. I have a text box that contains directory path for a picture which is showed in a image box on my report which works great. I have now created a label called "nopiclb" that has "no Pic "entered in it but I want to set the label to not visible if path1 has a file path in it but visible if path1 is empty
I put the code below in onformat event in the detail section, but is not working
Code:
Private Sub Detail_Format(Cancel As Integer, FormatCount As Integer)
If IsNull(Me.path1) = True Or Me.path1 = "" Then
Me.Nopiclb.Visible = True
Else
Me.Nopiclb.Visible = False
End If
End Sub

I'm upgrading a form that was designed a while ago (not by me). It has various text boxes/combo boxes/etc. and one tab control that has 3 pages (TabCtl87). It works fine, I want to leave it there. My goal is to create another tab control on this form with two pages. One will include combo boxes and (hopefully) TabCtl87, which are already on the form. The other will have a new subform.
My problem is this: I set up the new tab control and cut and paste the combo boxes and TabCtl87 on the first page. When I click on the second page, which is where I want to put my subform, TabCtl87 still shows up!
I tried:
Me.TabCtl87.Visible = False
in the On Click event of the tab on my second page.
But it won't go away!
I also tried embedding my subform over top of the dreaded TabCtl87, but the tabs show through and make a mess of everything.
This is the first time I've delved into the world of Tab Controls and it's ruining my day (several days, actually).
Thank you!

I have a form that uses a query as its control source. The problem I have is that on this form I have an unbound textbox that I need to show the result of another query in. I thought I could do this by using =[Query]![QueryName]![Field name] in its control source, but this isn't working.
What is the right way to go about this?
Cheers
