Forms :: Make Command Button Override Required Fields Focus?
Sep 18, 2014
I am using code like this to give warning messages and pass on focus to boxes only when things are selected.
Private Sub TextBox2_Exit(Cancel As Integer)
If IsNull(Me.TextBox2) Then
MsgBox "TextBox2 cannot be left blank"
Cancel = True
Else
ComboBox1.SetFocus
End If
End Sub
I do this for a series of required fields in order.
However, I also want a command button that is 'Exit without Saving' that should be clickable at any time, but of course when focus is controlled in my required fields sequence, it can't be clicked. How can I separate this button?
Well guys, I don't know if this is possible or not, but maybe someone can guide me in the right path.
I have a data entry form that several employees use. I have certain required fields that are set on the form level. I have couple employees that I would like to have the ability to override these fields. I was thinking like using F10 key or other key combinations that will allow them to override the required fields in order to save the record.
Is this something realistic that I can accomplish in access, and if so, does anyone have a sample that can help me with this task? Thanks to all.
I have created a web-database (? - There are globes over all the forms and tables icons) based on the Issues & Tasks template. This means that most of the data is entered and seen on the "Main" form, which has two tabs - Open Issues and Closed Issues. I have created a form that allows people at my work to input the necessary data and save it, so that it will show up on one of the two tabs. However, once a record has been created, I want to be initially locked if the ID/PK is clicked, so that data can't be changed or entered inadvertently.
SO, I changed the code so that when the ID/PK for a record is clicked, it brings up a different form, but one that looks exactly like the one that is brought up when entering a new form, but I locked all of the fields so that the information cannot be changed. It seems from what I have read that I can create a button on this form so that when clicked, it unlocks the fields on the form so that they can be changed, and then when clicked again it will lock the fields again. Is this true? If so, how can I do it? Or is there something similar I can do? I have seen codes that I could copy and paste, but I cannot figure out the place to copy and paste codes in Access 2010.
I have changed the Form properties so that Data Entry and all the "Allows" are set to No...
I'm using the following code, has worked fine on the beforeupdate on a forms control. Problem is I'm trying to use this as validation on a command button. When the command button is selected I want the code to go through and validate the fields in which the tag property is set at "required". When I run this it errors at Cancel = true, variable not defined.
Is there anyother method to validation on a command button.
Private Sub cmdSaveandmail_Click() Dim blnContinue As Boolean Dim ctl As Control blnContinue = True For Each ctl In Me.Controls If ctl.Tag = "Required" Then If IsNull(ctl) Then MsgBox "Required Information Missing", vbCritical + vbOKOnly + vbDefaultButton1, "You must fill in the field indicated with red"
Cancel = True ctl.SetFocus Exit For End If End If Next ctl Set ctl = Nothing end sub
Seems simple, but I haven't been able to crack this one.
I've searched and haven't found an obvious answer.
I want to hide a command button after it loses focus. I've tried placing this code on the On Lost Focus and On Exit events of the command button.
Me.cmdName.Visible = False
I get the 2165 error, 'Can't hide a control that has a focus'.
I guess one solution would be to force the focus to another control first, however, "how do I know what control the user is attempting to move the focus to?"
I currently have a form for a handover process and am looking to have a button to ideally take a section of inputted information from the form and place this into an email.
I want to copy all these fields from my form, ideally into a new email but if not possible then atleast just to clipboard, is there any way to do this?
I have made a form based on related tables. it requires me to fill out every field, which I don't want. I didn't make them required. Why does it do that?
Form 1: I have a combo box on my main menu(MenuMainF) called cboCompanyType with typical values 1,2,3,4,5,etc......
Form 2: I have a command button on my administration menu(MenuAdminF) called cmdDevelopment
My goal is to have the cmdDevelopment button of Form 2 be visible if cboCompanyType on Form 1 is equal to 1,2,3, or 4, but if it is any other value, then cmdDevelopment should be not visible.
I know how to make a text box entry "required" such that one cannot exit a record until a value is entered but cannot figure out how to make it required only if another field on the form has an entry. None of the form events seem to support that when focus moves to another record as far as I can tell. What I want to do is display an error message if the condition is not met on exiting a record but to also remain on (or go back to) that record so the required text box entry can then be made.
I am rewriting an old Access 2003 database in Access 2010. When creating new command buttons, the current theme gives them a default appearance. I need to apply this appearance to old command buttons. I know there is a way to select the default button and apply its properties to others quickly. I have done it before but didn't write the process down .
I have a form with a tab control on it. The input for respective fields are placed inside the tab control, and I have the "Confirm" button placed outside, on the main form. Now I wanted to be able to navigate my focus from a control from inside to tab control, out to the Confirm button on the form, to allow smooth flowing data entry.
However, it seems like Access separates the tab indexes for the controls in the tab control and outside on the main form, so setting tab index does not work. I tried using the code ON LOST FOCUS and SET FOCUS;
Private Sub txtPurchaseNote_LostFocus() Forms![frm Imported]![cmdConfirmPurchase].SetFocus End Sub
But then a dialog box appears:
Run-time error '2110' Microsoft access can't move focus to the control cmdConfirmPurchase
When the client clicks in a text-Box or Combo-box in a sub-form, the field seems to jump to the side. in this image it jumps to the left, but jumps to the right to..., it is quite irritating, especially attempting to open a combo-box list, and see the button jumping aside. We renewed the file many times, so I don't think it is corrupted, but go know..the file can be accessed via network or terminal server, the pic is from terminal, but happens via network too.
I have a form and subform. The form and subform both access tables that have "required" fields. If I try to tab to the sub form without filling in the required field then I get an error message generated by access (this is what I want). If I try and exit the form without the required field I get an error message as well.
Now it's a different story with the sub form. The sub form contains 1 to many rows. In each row there is a required field. I don't get any error message for not filling in that field. I Know I can 'capture' this in the code but I want access to do it.
I have a subform in which I want to put in a Command Button to open another form.
I used the wizard as per normal, but when you come to matching specific data fields, there is nothing in my left hand column of the sub form. I have checked the record source property and it is bound to the correct table.
I have read that this is an issue with Access 2007? Is this the case or am I missing something obvious here?
I am working on an Access 2002 database where one of the tables has five required fields making up the key.
There is a form that is linked to this table which is used for adding new records.
There is a close button on this form that has the following code in it's OnClose event:
"DoCmd.close"
When the form is opened, no data entered and then the close button is clicked - nothing happens.
It used to work fine, until I recently upsized the database into a SQL Server database and now it's all gone horribly wrong.
If I close the form manually by clicking on the cross, I get this error:
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'Product', table 'LeasebookSQL.leasebook_user.leases'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails. (#515) [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] The statement has been terminated. (#3621)
Can anyone please tell me how I can get the form to close without trying to save the record, especially when no changes have been made to the data on the form?
I tried to check if all required fields have been filled before saving the record using the following code.
Private Sub txtReportNo_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer) If IsNull(Me.cboMainCat) Then Cancel = True MsgBox ("Please enter Data for Main Cat") Me.cboMainCat.SetFocus End If Repeat above code for all required controls here. End Sub
It did not work with following error code.
Run-time error 2108
You must save the field before you execute the GoToControl action, the GoToControl method, or the SetFocus method.
The error message contradicts my original intention that prevents from saving without all required fields have been filled. Is there any way to get rid of this error message?
In addition, under the value of certain field, I need to check additional fields under that scenario. Is any additional code required to add in for that purpose?
I need code that I can incorporate with the code below, that will notify a user when required fields are left blank so that they have to go back and fill it in before updating the record. Below are the objects (shown in the order they appear on the form):
If any of the objects above are empty, the user should be prompted to go back and fill them in setting the focus back to the first empty object (again the fields above are in order). If conditions are not met, do not run the code below. If the conditions are met then proceed with the code below.
Private Sub Form_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer) Dim strMsg As String Dim iResponse As Integer
' Specify the message to display. strMsg = "Do you wish to save the changes?" & Chr(10) strMsg = strMsg & "Click Yes to Save or No to Discard changes."
I created this function to manage a MsgBox containing all required fields with no data:
Code: Function FormValidation(TheForm As Form) As Boolean Dim boolResponse As Boolean Dim strError As Variant Dim ctl As Control boolResponse = True strError = Null
[code]...
Then, I have a Form_BeforeUpdate event, where I wanna place the function, which contains also some VBA code to manage duplicates records:
Code: Private Sub Form_BeforeUpdate(Cancel As Integer) Dim rst As DAO.Recordset, dbs As DAO.Database, strICAO As String Dim ctl As Control, txtMsg As String
[code]....
Now, how to add the function in this event to get these two results:
1. if required fields are blank and I press OK on the MsgBox, the routine must stop; 2. the focus must go in the first required blank control.
I tried some options but I get different kind of malfunctions: no custom message for duplicate records but only the access default one, "go to next record" feature with tab key not working and so on.
I want to open a new form with information related to the main form.
The code I've used is: Private Sub GoToContacts_Click() On Error GoTo Err_GoToContacts_Click Dim stDocName As String Dim stLinkCriteria As String stDocName = "Contacts"
Alright I give up. I searched the forums and read up but still not grasping it. I know I've done something like this before but my brain must be dead today.
So I have 4 important tables. I have a main one and 3 tables that have records related to the main one. They're all the "many" sides of the one to many relationship with the main table. Outline is below:
Main Table: EMP_ID (Primary key) ...and other fields
So basically what I'm looking for is to have a main form pop up that has the Main table information (employee info). Then on that form I want 3 command buttons, each one going to a new form that relates to the three tables above and is relative to the Main table. Each employee may have several hire/fire listings, insurance listings (if they change their insurance), and skill ratings (updated as they improve). When I have set all my relationships so that the EMP_ID on the Main table has a one to many relationship with all the EMP_IDs on the other tables. When I create the command buttons though and start to populate a record in one of the three "subforms" the EMP_ID is not populating to be the same as the EMP_ID from the main page thus making me unable to create a record because it doesn't recognize a related record.
Working on a form and when using the wizard to add a command button or a txt box the wizard gives it a funny name like command989. Im wondering why? Where does this default come from and why is the number so high? There is no way anywhere near that number of command buttons on this form.
I have a form with command buttons that run different macro's that downloads queries into Excel.
What i would like to do if it is possible, is to somehow add an explanation of what the download will contain if the user should either hover over the button or even better if there was a way of adding ? box to the button so that the user could click on the ? and get a description of what will be downloaded.
I do have a very brief description on the button stating what it does but I would like to give the user a more detailed description of what is in the download.
