Forms :: Manage Lists For Combo And List Boxes?
Aug 15, 2015
During the course of it's development I have created about twenty tables whose sole purpose is to house data for use in combo and list boxes. They have no other purpose.
I am now in the process of creating the maintenance side of this project and how to manage these lists. In the past I have created a form with a multitude of subforms to manage these lists.

I'm stuck on a portion of a form that displays members attending and not attending a specific event. I've got some of it working but others not.
1. Removing items from a table and updating a listbox
2. Changing the Event selection from Next Record to a combo box.
The code that I have in the two list boxes are as follows:
Code:
Private Sub Form_Current()
Me!lstNotAttending.RowSource = "SELECT DISTINCT Members.MemberID, Members.txtLname, Members.txtFname FROM Members " & _
" LEFT JOIN MemberEvents ON Members.MemberID = MemberEvents.fk_MemberID" & _
" WHERE MemberEvents.fk_MemberID Is Null OR MemberEvents.fk_EventID <> " & Me!txtEventID & _
" ORDER BY Members.txtLName;"
Me!lstAttending.RowSource = "SELECT Members.MemberID, Members.txtLname, Members.txtFname FROM Members " & _
" LEFT JOIN MemberEvents ON Members.MemberID = MemberEvents.fk_MemberID" & _
" WHERE MemberEvents.fk_EventID = " & Me!txtEventID & _
" ORDER BY Members.txtLName;"
End Sub
The code I have working for adding a member:
Code:
Private Sub lstNotAttending_DblClick(Cancel As Integer)
CurrentDb.Execute "INSERT INTO MemberEvents(fk_MemberID, fk_EventID) " & _
"VALUES (" & lstNotAttending.Column(0) & ", " & Me!txtEventID & ");"
Me!lstNotAttending.Requery
Me!lstAttending.Requery
End Sub
I know the code for removing has to start with REMOVE FROM. I just don't know the syntax. The combo box has no code.I'm assuming the Requery options aren't working properly for the listboxes

Hi everyone,
I have been making progress with customizing a
MS Access program, but one major problem is that
I have been trying to make a List Box or Combo Box
that I can use to enter data in the TABLE, but I
find that I get a pull-down list that has the list of
values from only the parameter that is primary key.
More specifically, the program is set up as follows:
I have two tables in this program: One that is called
"invoices" and one that is called "items". In both of
these tables, there is one common parameter, which
is "Item Number". Item number is the primary key,
and I used the "relationships" function to tie this
parameter to itself between the two tables.
I was successful in setting up a list-box for the
"Item Number", but when I try to set up a list-box
for another parameter that is supposed to display
a person's initials, the pull-down list displays the list
of item numbers instead of the list of people's initials.
In fact, I don't know if there is an extra step I need to
take so that the database stores a list of people's initials.
Instead, I just fill in the initials in the field for each
record for which the "Item Number" is the primary key.
How can I get the list-box to pull down a selection of
different people's initials, or in other words how can I get
all the people's initials to be stored so that the list of
initials can be looked up. Just so you know, I have tried
different choices of entries in the "Lookup" tab in the
Design mode of Tables, including Display Control,
Row Source Type, Row Source, and Bound Column,
but the outcome is that the only parameter that I
get get in the pull-down list is the primary key, which
is Item Number.
I appreciate any help you can offer in explaining how
to correct this.
On a separate note, one of the parameters is "Date", and
on the reports, I'm trying to figure out how to filter a
specific date range so that I can limit each report to a
specific month. Please advise me on this procedure as well.
Thanks.

I have a list box on an unbound main form, which contains a rowsource consisting of files in a certain folder. The listbox is unbound
when I change an item in a subform, the listbox should update to show different items from the same folder.
Now it is updating correctly, so the rowsource appears to be correct, , but then the listbox behaves strangely - with the first item being sort of permanently selected - or at any rate - strange selection behaviour
out of interest, changed it to a combo box and it works correctly. so there must be some difference between the two?
After investigation, it might be this : [URL] ....
The appearance is similar to what is described in the thread.
although I have played with the strings to get them shorter without getting it work correctly. very strange
if I run the code to update the listbox from the subform, either directly, or by running as sub IN the main form, it produces this strange behaviour. If I run exactly the same code directly IN the main form, it seems to work properly.

I have a form with a List Box (List BoxA) that returns a value from a query. I then have a Text Box (Text BoxB) that uses the value from List BoxB and multiplies it by let's say 2. It works giving me the correct value but only becomes visible after I click inside List BoxA. How can I make it visible as soon as the form is opened? I tried refreshing the form data, didn't work and I tried a requery macro which didn't work either.
Thanks,
Lester

I have a database I am using to record financial transactions. I have a transaction edit/entry form that uses combo box lists to select the different segments of my 32 digit account numbers. The issue I am running into is that when I enter a value value in the first box/field the form jumps to the very first record.I then can use the navigation buttons to get back to the last record, and all the subsequent boxes/fields work fine without jumping to a different record.

(pls see end of thread for further clarification)
Hi
I am trying to achieve the following using 2 combo boxes
Box "a" is a list of courses from tbl_training_courses. The user selects the appropriate course.
Box "b" is a list of dates for each course from tbl_course_dates. Thus the user can select which date per course they want to book someone onto, and this value is then stored in tbl_training_record as the date the person is booked onto.
Its not working!!! It either displays blank values, or it starts a parameter query which I didnt want.
In the combo wizard, access refers to "remembering the value selected for later use" - i guess this might be what I need to use, remembering the value from the first and using it to select rows for the 2nd box based on identical courseID - but I can't seem to find this in Help file.
Any ideas anyone?

I currently have 3 tables within a database with student details of three different classes. I need to create a user form that has a dropdown box which I can select a student from one of these tables with a number of text boxes below which brings up all the students details, then once the student has been selected and the correct details are shown then I need to create a button which allows me to move that student from one table to another.

there is a way to convert multiple text boxes to combo boxes all at once, rather than right clicking on them one at a time, and selecting Change to.
I have a form with about 50 fields and most of them need to be converted to combo boxes. I'd always done it manually one at a time up to this point, but I'm trying to build up my learning and look for smarter ways to do things.

I am trying to make a search option in my form header. Right now I have two unbound combo boxes (CboAccountsfilter and cboCourseName) that I can use to filter my records. Currently, I can use the drop down for CboAccountsfilter and a list of accounts will appear. When I select one, the corresponding Course Names will appear in cboCourseName. This works fine...Code below. I would like to take the filtering a step farther and add checkboxes to filter the data. I my form, there currently exist several check boxes (yes/no)...(Priority, Rep Top Target, Manager Top Target, ect). I would like to have the option to use a check box to filter. I.E if I had a checkbox in my header called PriorityFilter, if checked it would only bring up those records that met the two combo boxes criteria and was a priority.
Below is the code I have so far...it doesnt have anything for the checkbox because I am at a lost of how to get started.
Private Sub CboAccountsfilter_Change()
Me.Requery
Me.cboCourseName.Requery
Me.Check178.Requery
End Sub
[code]...

Hello
I need to select information from different combo boxes. Using a command button, i would then like the information transferred onto a list box.
I have so far managed to link all my combo boxes so the result comes out on a list box. if one combo box is left blank, i get no information in the list box. is there a simple way of doing this.
Thanks

I have several combo boxes and textboxes showing quanity, productname,
size, and price. How can I pass all of this info in a single row that also calculates
the quanity and price. Also, multiple selections can be added, so several items can
can added in other rows. THe ability to cancel each row would be required as well.

I am trying to put together a form where employees will be entering maintenance information into my database. One of the requirements for this data is that when they perform repair work on an asset, they have to list a problem, cause and remedy. These are codes that are specific to each asset.
The closest thing I can think of to what I am trying to acheive is the selectors on car search websites. You select a MAKE, and then the MODEL list is narrowed down based on that, then you pick the TRIM, which is narrowed down based on the model selection. I have an Excel spreadsheet of the Assets(Failure Class), Problems, Causes, and Remedies...I'm just not sure how to put this into Access to get the desired output. I have attached a sample of the Excel spreadsheet for illustration.
I believe I'm going to have to put each of the columns in a seperate table and use relationships..but I'm not sure about that.

Hi,
I need to output data in a specific format for a certain client..
for example where
Select * from Falls - would normally give me:
01/01/05 Joe Smith ICU, Assisted
I need in this intance to get:
01/01/05 Joe Smith 5, 2
where locations, or types etc are converted to a corresponding number.
I can imagine a query like:
Select FallDate, PatientName, somefunction([Location],(MS2,ED,OB,CAFE,ICU),(1,2,3,4,5)), somefunction([Fall_Type],(Accidental,Assisted,Unanticipated),(1,2,3))
Is there some more powerful version of IIF or way to write this in the query without having to create a report with a bunch of functions?

In my table I have the following fields that are tick boxes
Vee
Cathedral
Round Bilge
Bilge Keel
RIB
Semi-Displacement
Keel
Lifting Keel
Each record can take a couple of these options. For example record 1 could be ticked for a 'vee' and a 'cathedral' whereas record 2 could be ticked for all of them.
I have been trying to use these to make a search form. I want to be able to chose on ie. 'Round Bilge' and it will search for a record that is ticked 'round bilge'. I have done this for both a combo box and a list box and have used the formula for each field [Forms]![Boatsearch]![hulltype]
When I have clicked run query I have an error message saying: 'This expression is typed incorrectly, or it is too complex to be evaluated. For example a numeric expression may contain too many complicated elements. Try simplifying the expression by assigning parts of the expression to variables'.

I've got a main form with two lists boxes. I want to show the visible columns in my subform (which is a datasheet) in one listbox and show the hidden columns in the other. Also I want to allow the user to hide / show columns using right or left arrow buttons between the list boxes. My subform is bound to a stored procedure using ADO.

Ok! So I've binned the pivot table and gone for a continuos form option that allows the double click event that I'm after. A new problem has appeared.
On my main form I have 3 combo boxes (programme, product & company). When I click on any of the combo boxes i get a list of everything in the column it relates to. That works fine but it looks very cluttered. I'd like to have everything listed once only so that when i click on a programme it will filter the subform to show only companies working that programme.
Hopefully this little thingy I've put below will explain it a bit clearer
At the moment the programme combo box is displaying....
AAA
AAA
CCC
BBB
CCC
AAA
BBB
but i'd like it to display like this....
AAA
BBB
CCC
Every programme listed once only.
Any idea's folk's???

I havea combo box on a form which looks up values from another table. The table containing the values which are looked up has another field where the data type is Yes/No. I want to limit the options in the combo box to just those which are set to Yes in the source table.
I know I need to use WHERE in the code for the combo box, but cannot find the correct syntax.
Please help!

HI hope you can help me!
I'm wanting to create drop down lists that are filtered as a result of a previous field, but not having much luck!
I've tried using a query to do this, but not having any luck! am i going down the right path?
Do i need a new query for each list, or can they all run off one query?
How can i refresh the list if a previous field is updated?
Additionally where there is only 1 option (similar to a lookup in excel) how can i set this without using a list box?
Hope that in the xmas spirit, my job is safe!!
Merry xmas to all.

I am having a lot of trouble trying to understand List Boxes in general and am hoping someone can explain them for me.
My problem is I have a database where a user has one unique ID number, but they can have several departments that they can be linked to in another table. I'd like to be able to have the various departments listed in a List Box with the departments that the user is linked to automatically selected when viewing the form.
Then if I was to add a new user, I'd select each department by using the Multi Select feature and add those details to the existing database.
Does this work or am I way off track here?
I hope that makes sense. My experience to date has been creating tables in Access. Everything else is new to me.
Thanks in advance. :)

I am trying to put a DROPDOWN LIST BOX in a access 2003 form, NOT a combo box. I only need this so I can disallow users from manually entering data into the combo box by typing it in. I want them only to be able to choose it from a list. I think that a LISTBOX is the only way to do this, other that using a straight list box, which would use too much room. However I cannot find any way to add this to a form. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Todd
