Database Not Working For Some Users
Aug 7, 2007I am having a problem that I have never encountered before and thought I start here. Using Access 2003
I have a database that resides on a main computer and my users connect via the network to this database. On my forms I have command buttons that run simple macros to copy and paste data from one field into another. The macro contains a GOTOCONTROL, to copy the contents and then moves to the next field. Then I have SEND KEYS command and wait is set to yes, then PASTE. When they press the command button it seems like the SENDKEYS is not waiting then the macro halts becuse it is saying the COPY command is not available. This happens to all users except for one. That other user is also connected to the database via the network. I checked the OPTION for all the computers that are connected and they all match to the one computer that works. The one computer that does work is the one that was used to write the database but the databse is now on another computer that is always on. The funny thing is that if I were to change any option under Forms/Reports, the macro's will work for a while then stop. I did do a compact and repair several times but this has no effect. Sorry for rambling but I am just frustrated because this databse worked fine at another account of mine and I just can't figure out why this is happening.

Mar 9, 2014I have created a module, where based on various selections (form), the output is thrown in the table for editing various fields. This works fine with single user. But once I have placed the same database on the share drive for multiple users, the users are unable see the data in the text filters. I don't know what is the issue all about. Also if i use me.requery, the text filters becomes blank. Below is the code :

Jul 19, 2006Is Access set up to handle multiple people entering data into the same table?
We are processing returned mail and enter all the bad addresses into an Access table. The data is simply entered into the bare table. Can two people be doing this at once without the risk of compromising the data?

I wonder if anyone could give me some advice on a problem i have with an access database.
I have designed a database and a data input form to collect data that is input by workers, the problem i have is that only one person can enter a record at a time.
I curently use 2 replicated database's on two seperate computers and run the synchronisation once one person has finished so that all the changes are replicated to the 2 different databases
If there is any other easier way to accomplish this i would be very greatful if anybody can shed some light on the subject.

Currently I have this database on the network, but when multiple people try to access it at the same time they cannot access without saving a separate copy or just having read access.

Mar 8, 2013I have my database on a server and i want 2 or more users to access that database from different stations at the same time. I am using MS Access 2010, what do i need to do and how do i do it to allow more than one person on my database? The database contains 2 tables - table 1 has 1,450,00 records - table 2 will be populated with some of the records from table 1.Table 2 is empty.3 sub-forms - 1 main form and 1 report (for labels).
Both tables have the same fields, but not all the fields are filled in and each user will be filling in the fields required.Each record is a case, and no more than one user will be assigned to a case.I need at least 2 users working on my database at the same time, i would like to have 4 users working on this database if possible.

Forms :: Inventory - Allow Users To Update Multiple Fields For Multiple Assets
Sep 25, 2014I want to create a form that allows users to update multiple fields for multiple assets. Below is what I came up with:
Ideally, I'd like the subform to be filled in by having the user select multiple Assets from the S/N combobox field which would then auto-populate the "Type" field. Then they would fill out the appropriate fields they want edited in the top part of the form. They hit save and magic happens. This would also be nice because only assets they want edited would be displayed (easier on the eyes) and no distinguishing would be necessary. To do it this way, I know I would need to use a temp table but I wanna avoid using temp tables.
I know I can do this by adding a Yes/No field in the "Asset" table, setting the "Asset" table as the subform's recordsource, and then putting a checkbox in the subform and allowing them to check the assets that they want to edit (which would also allow me to sort it instantly so that checked Assets are at the top of the datasheet for easy viewing), but I would like to know if there's a way of accomplishing this without the use of checkboxes.
I know I could also use a listbox and that allows them to multi-select items, but I'm not sure if that allows me to group all selected items at the top of the listbox for easy viewing of selected items. Plus it would involve a lot of scrolling (there are over 2k assets).
Trouble Opening Database For Multiple Users.
May 22, 2006We have an access Database stored on a server that until now was only ever accessed by the one user. Now more users need to access it at the same time. However when a second user trys to open the database the error message "File Already in use appears". I did not create this database so have no idea how it was set up. I think it may have something to do with being opened up exclusively. Is there anyway around this by creating a short cut or changing any kind of propertties?

When I create an Access database on my company's "secure" server (through a PIX box), I get this message in a dialog box when I try to open the database again: "Open File - Security Warning. Do you want to open this file?" It then gives the file Name, Publisher (unknown publisher), Type (Microsoft Office Access Application), and From (the file path and name). The bottom of the dialog box has this message: "While files from the Internet can be useful, this file type can potentially harm your computer. If you do not trust the source, do not open this software." When I click on the "Open" command button, the file opens just fine.
There are a couple of things going on here:
1) When I open this same database or any other Access database on another of my company's servers that is not protected by a PIX box, I do not get this dialog box.
2) When two users try to access an MS Access database on the "secure" server, the first user will get in, but the second user will not. The second user will not get ANY warning messages -- nothing happens. This occurs if the second user tries to open the database by either double-clicking on a shortcut on the desktop or by double-clicking on the file name in Windows Explorer. Note that the second user CAN access the same file if s/he starts up MS Access from scratch, and then chooses FILE>OPEN from the main menu.
My goal is to be able to let multiple users access the MS Access databases on the secure server by either double-clicking on the shortcut icon or by double-clicking on the file name in Windows Explorer.
I thought perhaps that the "unknown publisher" issue might be part of the problem on the secure server. So I created a certificate using the utility "SELFCERT", went into the database, went into Visual Basic (Ctrl-G), went into TOOLS>DIGITAL SIGNATURE and assigned the digital signature, and re-saved the file. I then exited the file, went back in, and the dialog box still pops up saying the file's publisher is "unknown publisher"! If I go back into Visual Basic, the database is clearly marked as digitially signed by me. I don't know why the initial dialog box is still showing that the file is not digitally signed.
If anyone has any thoughts about these issues (multiple users not being able to access the same Access database, and why my file is saying it is still not digitally signed), I would appreciate your input. FYI, I am on a Windows XP workstation and our company users Windows Servers.

Oct 22, 2012I've prepared a front end database with forms that allow data to be keyed into linked tables to my main databse.
However, currently the front end database only allows 1 user to do it at 1 time and when another user tries to open the file, an error "The Database Has Been Placed in a State by User on Machine That Prevents It From Being Opened or Locked'
Is there anyway to allow multiple users to use the front end database at the same time?
Sharing Access Database With Multiple Users
Apr 27, 2012I created an access database for the sole purpose of sharing approved data with my entire company. The end users will view the data in a Form which utilizes several tabs and also gives them the ability to run pre-set queries out of the Form. The Form was created using several queries which were built from tables off of the server.
The tables update every day, as does the information in my Form. The problem I am running into is that it takes about 2 minutes to open the DB (the DB opens directly to the form and all queries run immediately to update), which is annoying to end users and might deter them from actually using the tool. I have tried moving the DB to SharePoint, but that did not work due to the size of many of the tables.

The backend is stored on a network drive, is there any way of being able to store the frontend on the drive with the backend? Users do not use the actual computer to store information or access files, everything is usually saved on the network drive. I have created a shortcut that launches the front end database in the read only kiosk mode.

Feb 13, 2015Twice a year, a database of mine is accessed and put too use by various staff within a time range of 1 week. the database is on a shared drive and in a location which can be accessed by all.
The staff access the database from different workstations and in some instances at the same time.
This has only led to issues in the database being copied and then confusing staff on what database to click on thus i have 2 databases which i then have to sift through and copy/paste into the correct one.
I want to know the best way i can:
1) Prevent multiple users accessing the database at a time.
2) making a copy of the original and typing into a separate database.

Actually I cannot even open it if its already opened. It appears another file with a "lock", which seems to be protecting the DB. :confused:
Multiple Users And Forms
Mar 17, 2008Hi, very new to access and chucked in at the deep end.
we require a database which will be used by multiple users to place orders.
the users are at different locations although they all log on via terminal services so connection issues are minimal.
i understand that we require a fe/be database because of the users.
the users will only work with forms and reports. they should not be allowed to see the other users orders and the form needs to automatically put the users id into the order.
the only way i can see to achieve this is to make a custom form up for each location. would i be right in assuming this?
if so, how would i prevent one location from opening up another locations form? infact, i wouldn't want one location to know that there are other forms for other locations.
any help would be appreciated. thanks

May 1, 2013I have created a profiling form for my school. Each boy can access his form using his admission number ( Adno) which is the primary key. On the form are lots of sub forms - for things like favourite authors, clubs, teams played in etc - but these don't have a primary key ( as they are automatically linked to the Adno via the main form ). Unfortunately when several boys are filling in their own forms at the same time I keep getting error messages, one says that the data can't be updated and another says that there is a primary key problem.

May 3, 2015I would like to create a form that will show the users connected to the database. It would be kind of a tracker who opened the database to work on some cases. The form could show all users from the datbase from top to bottom and to the right a green or red round dot that she/he is active opened the database or not active (closed the database or did not open it still)
I was thinking that it could be applied when the main form opens and that form captures the login from windows into the "tracker" form.
I guess it will only work when the "tracker" form is first open. If the "tracker" form is open later, how to capture those logged in earlier?
General :: Split Database - Users Seeing Blank Forms
Apr 10, 2013I have a split database consisting of an ACCDB backend helf on a shared drive, and a local ACCDR frontend distributed through email. I recently distributed a copy of the ACCDR to a user, and she says that the main menu opens fine, but when she clicks a button to open a form, the form opens but is completely blank. I've googled some possible causes for this (e.g. on Allen Brown's website) and none seem to be relevant, or would explain why this started happening all of a sudden. I can't reproduce this bug at all.

Oct 20, 2005I have read through just about every post on this forum related to "Unrecognized Database errors" and have not found a solution to my direct problem.
Stats:
Database is running Access2K on all machines; db is on network location, no sharing issues or permission issues have been identified, no other databases in this network location have had this problem. also, we have tried compact-repair and also have tried re-creating the database and neither have proved successful.
I can open the database just fine if I am the only one opening it. If someone else tries to open it once I have it opened one of the following occurs:
1. Nothing. Hourglass appears for a split second, then nothing happens.
2. Error message "unrecognized database format "mydb.mdb"" appears. If I click OK and both users close the db, it can be opened just fine again by the first user. It doesn't matterwho opens it first, but the second user gets this message.
Any ideas why this is happening?
