Forms :: Open Second Form On Related Field From First Form?
Aug 22, 2013
how to write code to open a second form on the click of a button on the first form and specifically to continue on the record set I am focusing on.
I have 2 tables. The first is tblAccount (fields: AccountID [the PK]; AccountHolder) and the 2nd is tblUser (fields: UserID [the PK]; UserName; AccountID). They are linked so that one account can have multiple users. Each has a respective form; frmAccount and frmUser.
My goal is that once the AccountHolder field has been populated in frmAccount I can click a button to open frmUser with the AccountID field already showing in the form header.
I have managed to do something similar by selecting from a combo box before but I am having trouble making this work after directly populating the AccountHolder field and using an open Form button.

I created a query that shows everyone who has a specific date field blank. Now want to make those names clickable so that it opens a specific form with a certain record related to that individual in the query. Each line with a different individual should open a different person on the form and their corresponding record.

I have my Assets form and the primary key is the ChargerID, in this form I have an "Add New Job For This Asset" button, which opens up the Jobs form at a new record.
How do I make it so that the ChargerID field is automatically filled with whatever the previous record was instead of being blank.
For example if I have Charger12345 open in the Asset form, I'd like to click the Add New Job button and it automatically have Charger12345 in the ChargerID field of the Jobs form.

I have one table containing name of restaurant with its address etc. Then i created another table to list out the restaurant workers names and details. Just as an example,
Table:Restaurant
Restaurant name
Address line 1
Address line 2
Restaurant #
Website
Table:StaffContact
Staff Role
Name
speciality
email
phone
I have the main form that has all the restaurant details only. And i have another form containing the Staff information. Please note the two table have a relation and it works well.
Now to make it user friendly(basically easier for the lazy ones), I dragged the staff contact form on to my main form and displayed it as a datasheet(basically a sub form).
Now, my boss does not want users to add/delete on this sub form(datasheet). So,he wants me to create buttons to open new record of staff for each restaurant(new form)
My issue is with opening a new record to enter a new person to the staff list and give them a role as well in form view. The new form has
So i ran a Macro, with open form with Where condition
Code:
[Staffcontact]![Rest Name]=[Forms]![MainForm]![RestaurantName]
But, it does not work .

What I would like to do is create a list box that will only display the information from another form that is related to the current form.So I have a form call Equipment Catalog and that form is related to Equipment features 1 to M relationship and the Equipment Features is related to a Features form M to 1.
So what I want to do is display all the related equipment features in a listbox that is related to the current PK of that form.So if there is only one feature on one form the list box will only display that one item however is there is 6 features on another it will display all 6.I have been trying SQL and Queries but I still can't get it to work.

I have a form with numerous fields on it, with the one I'm concerned about being a date field.
I want a different form to open automatically if the above date field is in the past (this will act as a warning to the user).
I've created the warning form as a pop-up view but just want to know the best way to have it open automatically.
Can this be done via a macro in the OnOpen Property (or maybe OnLoad) or will this have to written in vba.

I have a Table table_clients and a connected table (1-->many) table_invoices.
I have two forms:
form1(table_clients): all clients with subform1(table_invoices): all invoices for every client
the form2 and subform2 are the same, just objects are placed differently on page.
I want when I have opened a record on form1/subform1, to be able to click a button and open form2/subform2 filtered by the invoice_id and the client_id.

Dear All
I am creating a form that is bound to the main table in my database.
However, I want to show one field from another table on the form that is linked to the main table (one-to-many relationship). I would do this using a sub-form but I also want the form to be a continuous form (as this has been asked form from on high) and Access won’t let me have a sub form if the main form is continuous.
Is there any other way that I can show the related field?

Basically I have a Customer Form, which I have a New party button on it,this button opens up the party form to a new party, what I would like it to do is open up a new party but make the new party for the customer I had selected in the previous form.I have tried the GoTo macro's but cannot seem to get it to work.
I am thinking on clicking the button it will need to get the Customer ID, and then open the party form, create new party, and paste in the Customer ID, which then updates the Name - Date - Address - Company Fields.

I have a table that holds the SQL texts for ca. 1000 Select queries (mostly minor variants that are used to programmatically swap out RowSource strings for combo boxes). I'd like to have a quick and easy way to open/review/modify these queries.
One strategy would be to display the SQL strings in a field on a Datasheet form, then use an onClick event on a text box linked to the SQL-holding field (or perhaps an onClick event tied to an unbound text box on the form) to open the associated query. That would allow me to view the SQL of the query that I want to open, allow me to quickly scroll through the list of stored SQL texts, and give me options for sorting or limiting the SQL-texts displayed in the datasheet form.
But, I can't seem to get the onClick event to work. The problem seems to be that I can't figure out how to pass the SQL string contained in the field to a function that will use that string to open the query .

In a form of mine, I have the user input other person's initials, but I don't want those initials showing up on the report. It's a set group of initials to work with so I have each set associated with a random 3 digit number (that I input into the table myself). I'd like to be able to have the person input the initials in the form, but have the numbers display on the report, I'm not sure how to go about doing that.

I have a combobox on my form with fields related to it (ie. when an option is chosen in the drop-down, the next two fields are also populated with data based on the selection made - I know this is duplication of data, it's just the way the 'powers that be' wanted it. I'm changing it in my next version of the database!)
The two fields that are populated as a result of the selection in the combobox are migrating into the related table fine, but the actual selection in the combobox isn't - it's showing up as blank in each new record in the table.

In my query, I have several results that relate to the same PK overall, and I'd like to concatenate these records into one expression/one field in a form.
Currently my query looks like this;
As you can see, the BandPK/BandFK are repeated where the GenreFK/GenrePK are different. What I'd like to do is concatenate the column named Genres into one field so the BandFK/PK isn't repeated.

I have a form within my database in which the user will enter data which will go into 2 separate tables. These 2 tables (Job and Client) are related. At the moment I have a subform in which the user enters Job information, and the main form where the user will enter client information.
The problem being is that the 2 sets of data do not associate themselves with each other, despite being related (The Client will be related to a job number. A client can have many jobs but a job can only have one client etc). It has to be done manually in the table which is not ideal as the DB will be split and rolled out to users via Access Runtime. I have been working on this DB for a while now and the problem is most likely right in front of me but I cannot see it!

I have a form based on a table which includes the mid field. I want to have a macro that takes the value of the current mid, and makes a new record in a 1-many related table (consisting of record id (auto), mid and trmntdate), paste the mid and insert the current date. For the life of me I cannot get it to work? The process should be something like:copy mid value, add new record to related table, paste value in mid, insert current date in trmntdate, save. I've tried append queries, experimented with copy etc, dabbled blindly with VBA and not got anywhere.

I have a database I made to store a list of users and information about each user.
I have a UserDetail table, languages table, previous experience table, current experience table.
UserDetail table as follows:
UserID (PK)
First Name
Last Name
Full Name (calculated)
Department (using a multi select combo box. There are 3 departments and some people are in both).
I need to do the same thing on each table and each table is very similar so I'll just list one. This is the Previous Experience table:
PreviousXPID (PK)
Previous experience (e.g. IT, Marketing, Chemistry)
I have three junction tables. One for each Previous Experience, current experience and language table. The Previous experience junction table has:
ID (PK)
UserID
PreviousXPID
I created a relationship between the userdetail table and the junction table then the junction table to the Previous Experience table.
Now what I'd like to be able to do is edit people to add previous experience, current experience and languages to each. I already have a form that lets me add a new user to the database. It's just based on the UserDetails table. If I could have a way (perhaps using 3 multi select list boxes. One box for previous experience, one for current experience and one for languages) on that form to add the other details to that person, that would be ideal. I'd like to create a new user. E.g. Joe Bloggs in department 1 who speaks Dutch, used to have Marketing, Chemistry and aeronautical experience and now works in IT.
I can create the new user by putting last first/last name and selecting the department. But to add experience or languages, I have to go into that junction table and add the numbers myself. e.g. user 1, has experience 1,3,4 and 5. I'd like to see the name that relates to the ID and be able to select it from the list in the table I have.

I have a split DB that is in its (hopefully) finally stages of development. Using Access 2010. It is being developed both at work and at home on a 64 bit machine. The remainder of the machines are 32 bit.
All of a sudden one of my most basic sets of code doesn't want to work, but only on my machine at work. It works fine on my home computer and on other computers at work. It is the simplest of codes, run from frmNameA:
DoCmd.OpenForm "frmNameB", acNormal, , "[SequenceNumber] = " & Me![SequenceNumber], acFormEdit, acWindowNorm
The desired sequence of events is to open frmNameA, find the active clients and then click on the [SequenceNumber] to bring up the related record on frmNameB.
When I do this on my computer at work, it asks for the query criteria for the [SequenceNumber] and the criteria for another field. On the home computer and others at work, it works just fine.
In a related problem, I have the following code on the OnLoad event for frmNameB. It opens all the related records for active clients that are in frmNameB. But if there are no related records, it is supposed to cancel the event. Again, it works fine on my home computer and others at work, but not my work computer.
Private Sub Form_Open(Cancel As Integer)
'code when opened from frmNameA and no record exists in frmNameB
Dim MyReply
If ClientID = "" Or IsNull(ClientID) Then
MyReply = MsgBox("No record exits in frmNameB, Do You Want to Exit?", vbOKOnly)
If MyReply = vbOK Then
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdUndo
DoCmd.Close acForm, "frmNameB", acSaveNo
End If
End If
End Sub
What I can't figure out is why this may be happening, where I might look for errors, and what I might do to correct this.

I have a continuous form in which I put a command button for each record called "detail". I would like to click on the "detail" button and make it open another form containing all (and only) the info on this record.
At first I refused to use an "id" to link both forms, but finally I added the "id" in the table... however still does not work.
continuous form: "04 - GASTOS_BUSQUEDA"
id field on continuous form: "Gastid"
pop-up (details) form: "GASTOS_EDITAR"
id on pop-up (details) form: "editar_id"
This is what I have tried on the "click" properties of the "details" button field (called "btn_editgs"):
1)
DoCmd.OpenForm "GASTOS_EDITAR", acNormal, , "[editar_id] = " & Me.Gastid
2)
DoCmd.OpenForm "GASTOS_EDITAR", , , "[editar_id]=" & Me.Gastid
3)
stLinkCriteria = "[editar_id]=" & Me![Gastid]
DoCmd.OpenForm "GASTOS_EDITAR", , , stLinkCriteria
4)
Private Sub btn_editgs_Click()
On Error GoTo btn_editgs_Click_Err
Dim strWhere As String
strWhere = "[editar_id] = " & Me.Gastid
DoCmd.OpenForm "GASTOS_EDITAR", , , strWhere
btn_editgs_Click_Exit:
Exit Sub
btn_editgs_Click_Err:
MsgBox Error$
Resume btn_editgs_Click_Exit
End Sub

I'm working on the Navigation Form template in Access 2010, which is new to me. It appears that one needs to use the BrowseTo command to open up a form in the built-in subform module. I'm trying to create a couple of buttons where each button opens a form in a different data mode; one in read-only and one in add mode. Here is the syntax I used for read-only:
DoCmd.BrowseTo acBrowseToForm, "frmSales","frmNavigation.NavigationSubform", , ,acFormReadOnly
frmSales is the Sales form I want both of the buttons to open and frmNavigation is the Navigation form. It seems to be ignoring the data mode part at the end however. It only will open in Edit mode. Is there something I'm doing wrong with this command?

I have a main form with multpile tabs - each tab containing a different subform.
Link Master Field: ClientID (field in Master Form)
Link Child Field: Client ID (field in all subforms)
There is another field that all the subforms (continuous type) have: ObligorName. All the subforms are based off of a huge table (subtable) with fields: Obligor Name, Address, Zipcode, City, DOcuments Required, Bank Account Number, etc......
Essentially, the user will fill in the 10 obligor names associated to ONE client on the first subform on the first tab + address + zip code + city.
When the user clicks on the second tab to fill out the next subform, I want all 10 obligor names to be there already, so then they can fill out Documents Required + BAnk Account Number.
If I fill out the first subform and then exit out of the form and then reopen it, the other subforms autofill.
HOWEVER, I dont want to have the user have to do this. It wastes a lot of time. What can I do about this so that the table is automatically updated right away. They are all based on the same table so I do not see why there is so many issues.

I have a main form[frmResearchNotes] with combo box controls that filters a query populating [subfrmNotelist] containing several records from the filtered query. From there, I double click on a field within one of the remaining records, [CompanyName] for example, and it opens the new form[frmNoteDetail]. The problem is that second form is not displaying that selected record. The second form's record source has been set to the same query so when it loads, it displays the same info but it's displaying the 1st record out of the entire filtered list, not the record I clicked on in that list.
I figured I could use the strWhere function to copy the record I selected in the event procedure and then open the new form with those details. Not sure how to actually do this with VBA or if it's even the correct approach.

I would like to know if it's possible to open an specific subform inside a navigation form using an event.
I also need to to this using macros ( really can't use vba in this project =/)
Form example:
the main form has "nav_opt1", "nav_opt2", "nav_opt3"
By double clicking a record in "nav_opt1", it will open "nav_opt2" with some filters (but all in the same window), as if I was just browsing through the navigation forms usually.
