Forms :: Open And Save Doc / PDF Files Within A Form?

In a record, I want to have a text box which displays the file path to a .pdf or .doc, docx file. If you double click in the text box the file within the text box opens. If there is no file path I want a small command button to be visible next to the text box, which will launch an explorer that will locate and save the path of a chosen .pdf or .doc, docx file.
I have a field within a tblPriceList called quotefile, which I want to store the file path.
For info. This is not going to be a major multi user database, but the quote files will be stored on a vserver, not the PC the DB is being used on.
I have a form. It has about 75+ bound text boxes, and about 25+ unbound text boxes that calculate values. And about a dozen command buttons. The code behind all this mess prints off in about a dozen pages.
Everything works. BUT, it takes around two or three minutes from clicking to open the form before the form appears. (There is no delay in moving between records.)
If I go into design mode, it takes anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes for it to save changes.
I noticed things really slowed down as I started copying controls.
Is there anything I can do to speed up this monster?
I have based a form on a parameter query, so that when the user is prompted to enter a 'Hobby' to search on, the relevant records will be displayed on the form.
Now, I have created a command button designed to open a template letter in MS Word for a particular hobby. The problem is, I need the command to open certain file depending upon the value input in the parameter box intially. How would I go about doing this?
We have Cardiac Rehab patients that come 3 times a week (M-W-F). Once they are on program they stay there for 3 months. There are classes given hourly from 8am thru 6pm. There are 12 available slots per class. Right now this is being handled in Excel, but I thought I might improve things by putting it in Access.
The Excel "form" I built has fields for PatientName, MedicalNotes, DoctorName, and Notes. Because the names rarely move (a patient gets a slot and stays there) the user opens Excel, reviews the form to make sure no one cancelled-is out sick-etc, then prints the schedule. When the day is complete I have a macro that takes this information and saves it in a tablelike manner on another sheet. A dynamic pivot table references this info to give the user quick answers as to daily volume, etc.
The thing I can't get my head around is how to make this as easy in Access. My thought was I could have a PatientT, listing all of the fields mentioned above. I could have DailyF open, bound to PatientT, with additional unbound textboxes to add "today's date", cancellations or no shows, and then Save all of this in another table and print out the daily schedule.
I need code for save dialog file ,and select the file from textbox and save it to the selected location.i have only this code and i dont know what else i can do with this because it just opens the save file dialog !
I have a very simple table of basically a unique number and a couple data fields. On my form with those same fields, I need to be able to create a button that opens a pdf file that is named the same as that unique number. Here is the kicker...I have been able to create a hyperlink with a link to that file and it works fine.... I am trying to set it up so that the file name is automatically put into the hyperlink statement according to what the unique number is for each record.
what I did so far...
in my hyperlink: *file://c:/docubase/3840.pdf (only put * in so not a link here)
this works fine but I need the syntac to make that line take into account the account field (ID) for each record. So something similar to this (already tried this and it doesnt work)
For some reason Access will not allow me to open any mdb files. When i click on the file to open Microsoft opens the install wizard for office 2000 and asks for disc 2. If i press ok its says DATA2.msi is missing.
However if i open access through the Programs menu and then go and search for the mdb file i can open it with no problems.
My question is how to solve this problem as i have to copy give someone a copy of one of my databases and i don't want to pass on any bugs etc... ???

guys hello i'm having a very weird problem i'm using access 2003 and when i'm creating a form using the wizard for the forms i can't save him i when i'm pressing the X button i'm getting the dialog to save the form and promted for the form name but it doesn't do anything and the form do not closes , when i'm creating forms by manual this problem doesn't appeares . i'm already (uninstalled and installed ) * 5 office , installed windows again , deleted the office dir , deleted the shared office directory cleaned the registry installed another version of office and no effect . i would appreciate any help thanks. I have a simple EXIT command button that runs these macro actions: save record, close form. I also have a SAVE command button that runs this macro action: save record. If a user closes the form without clicking either the EXIT or SAVE command buttons, will the record changes be saved in the datasource table.
I have found from testing that the data is always saved even if the user does not click the EXIT or SAVE buttons, but I wanted to be absolutely certain. Is this correct ?
I have a path to a JPEG file in a variable. I want to click on a command button and open the JPEG file. Is there code which in effect double clicks on the path to open the file? Thank you.

Please help. When trying to launch MS Access 2000 I get an error: " Can't find the database you specified, or you didn't specify a database at all. Specify a valid database name in the command line, and include a path if necessary." When I try to open a valid Access file, the application simply doesn't display anything.Please help to fix the problem. Thanks

I need to refresh listbox field (Total_price) situated on parent form. My sub form is called "Lines_form". I want to sum values of all lines for column "price". Result of calculation I want see in parent form in field "Total_price". My parent form is called "Main_form".
On "price" field settings I used AfterUpdate event : Me.Parent!Total_price.Requery
I see result in parent form, but value isn't saved to table and I can't use it in next calculations.

I have a query that I dump into a table...via Macro. I made changes in the table (User Input in some fields) ..can I requery and not overwrite the inputs? I am new to Access not sure if this is possible?
when i open a form i want to open another frm at the same time. i have a main form with some buttons in it. when i click on a button and a form opens then i am not able to click on a button to open other forms from the main form.
I have a database which has several records with at least 5 documents needing to be attached to each record. Using attachments or OLE would cause considerable bloat, so I opted for hyperlink fields for all the document types necessary to save with each record. However, now I am faced with an issue. It is easy enough to write code to open the files by following the hyperlinks, as well as write code to send an email, but how would I go about combining the two? I need to write a code that will attach these documents to an email, as attachments and not as hyperlinks. I know with excel documents, I could follow the hyperlink and send the document by email through excel, but I also have images converted to pdf's that need to be sent as attachments.
I have a "Search" form that I am using to search through a query in a list box of all of my Customers. Once the record that I am wanting to view comes up I highlight it and click a "View" button to bring up another form with the customers full record. When this form is open I am able to update the customer information and add User's to it if necessary.
My problem comes after I click on my save and close button that takes me back to me search form. I want to close the search form and the error I get is "The record cannot be deleted or changed because table "tblUserProfile" includes related records." I click OK and get a SECOND error stating "You can't save this record at this time. MS Access may have encountered an error while trying to save a record. If you close this object now, the data changes you made will be lost. Do you want to close the database object anyway?"
I have already made my changes and saved them in the form with the customer record so am not sure why I am getting an error when trying to close the Search form.
I am using Access 2010 with Win-7.Shared, split database with several users.Database Purpose:PM Procedure for Medical Equipment..To be able for the user to copy the file name of 1 or more technical manuals and paste into a table used for a subform on the procedure parent form.Users can then open the related files stored in a common directory that are related to the procedure when later reviewing the procedure .
Problem:File path on the common drive for our group remains static Syspro_5VOL1BIOMEDCOMMONEquipment (Service Manual).The subfolders are not static.There is an unlimited number of sub folders by vendor, model, or make.The subfolders sometimes get renamed as vendors change ownership.The file itself usually does not get renamed.New subfolders get added as needed.Everyone in our group has access to this area of the server.
Question:Is there a way in VBA that when a user opens the procedure record form and dbl-clicks the name of the file in the subform, Access can start at the parent folder and keep searching through all the subfolders until it finds the file?I cannot depend on people in my group to be able to correctly update hyperlinks so I need a way people with no Access knowledge can even use even if its a little slow.
I want to open the 'Save Backup As' Dialogue Box from the file menu, using a Command Button on a Form in Access 2003.I know you can do this manually but I would love to do it programically.
