I have been asked to look into fixing a permissions problem with a database. The company has been in the process of updating the OS on our computers.
The database in question is stored on a shared network drive. It opens fine on a windows XP machine running Access 2003 but when the same user tries to open the database from windows 7 using access 2010, the message: "You do not have the necessary permissions to use the '<file path>' object. Have your system administrator or the person who created this object establish the appropriate permissions for you."
I am having trouble with a simple data base where I have 1 main form with 1 sub form, but when I try to use the form (go from design view to datasheet view) I get the message
Error Accessing File Network Connection May have been lost.
and the link between the form and the code seems to have been lost ... I can no longer edit the vb code (it keeps reverting back no matter what I type).
When I delete the form, the VB entry remains - (since it is no longer linked with the form). Running the database this way I get error messages saying there is a Macro with a misspelled name (ie: it can't find the form with the name).
The only way I have been able to get rid of it is to create a new form with nothing in it, save it and then delete it.
Really frustrating!!!!
Any ideas on how I can get rid of this problem, best ways to re-build the data base (I have created a new one, imported the tables and created new forms from scratch ... then this problem comes back@&^^#%$@).
I have a workbook which has links to access to import data. I have to have the information in Excel for a couple reasons:
1.) Many of our customers don't have Access. 2.) The customers use a "discount calculator" to apply their own discounts.
They also use it to then apply their own margin mark ups to be able to then use to quote to their customers. So a static report/pdf for them to look at doesn't work.
I've begun to create links from a number of queries in Access, which work fine. My problem is when I go to update the data. I'm not getting the following error coming up:
The database definitely hasn't moved. And I've run the queries in q, and there aren't any problems there. I've looked this error up and I'm seeing that it could mean that I've got some corruption going on.
Before I hit my main q, I should also note: I'm running all of this on a Citrix network. I should also note that it's a consulting gig. Once I'm done, I won't be available to fix major issues like this.
I have just updated a big mdb database to accdb. But we have two associated databases that cannot be updated - they are for UPS and Fedex data, which presently does not support accdb. Can I link to mdb tables in another database from my main accdb database?
As you can see the picture naming system is standard and is based on the content in the type field. If one record of the Type field is say 12-6636 then the picture will be RC126636-01 (for Pic1) and RC126636-02.
Is there a way where the user say... can type C: and it will populate the picture file names in a combo box?
There are about 2000 records in the DB and I am just trying to find a way to keep a user from typing all that stuff.
 Could there be a way to do all 2000 records at once?... Thanks.
I've been trying to search for all picture files in my documents and copy them to a folder on the desktop. I found this and it work great for searching however I'm having trouble getting the copy to work. [URL] ....
Code: Dim colFiles As New Collection RecursiveDir colFiles, "C:Photos", "*.jpg", True Dim vFile As Variant For Each vFile In colFiles Debug.Print vFile Next vFile
Code:
I replaced the debug.print vfile with my copy function. I've tried copyfile but it needs to specify the destination with the file name. I tried using the FSO filecopy method and can't get it to work (keep getting a compile error "Expected =") I feel the hard part is done and this part should be simple.
I want to move documents associated with one customer from my main document folder to another. I've looked at some sample code but nothing seems to work
I've got a little problem when users move through records on a form that has an image embedded the source of which changes for each record linked using a filename field and path in the database. The pictures are served across the network from another computer. Some of them are relatively large and take a second or so to load.
The problem comes when a user tries to browse too quickly through the records, when the pictures are importing a box appears advising the user, if the user clicks through too fast the box sticks and remains visible in the foreground right in the middle of the screen, it even remains when Access is exited. You have to end the process in Windows Task Manager in order to get it to disappear. I'm using Office XP with service pack 3, does anyone know of a fix for this bug
or if there's no fix
is there a way I could maybe delay each record by about 1 second to allow a picture to load as the user browses through using the record selectors at the bottom of the form?
In my table I have Picture (OLE) and Link_String (Text) On my Form I have the OLE field and the text field.
In the text field I would like to put in a reference to a file on my computer (example: P:PicturesTest.jpg) and the picture OLE field should then show the linked to picture.
I am new to Microsoft Access and have a little problem. I have searched the forum and nearly found the fix but I didnt quite understand what to do, so im creating a new thread.
I have a Access Database and have a client page that stores all the information about that client. We produce reports (scanned word/pdf) for each client and we store the report files in a client folder using the Client ID taken from Access.
My question is can I somehow produce a link from the Client Form in Access to the Client Folder or Files in explorer. I have seen the Hyperlink option but that is only availabe in Design View.
I am trying to set up a link to a file folder on the computer fore each individual, it is not going to the individual people, it is just going to the one person where I put the link to file.
using Access 2010, I have reached the 2GB limit. It's not the data, it's the PDF files I scanned in for each customer that has stretched the db to its limits. The db is also currently split.
I didn't realize Office had a 2GB limit; I assumed if you had a 64 bit computer and a NTFS partition, there would be no 2GB limit.
Using a template database in Access 2010, I need to extract the attachments to a folder and thus link them back to the database using hyperlinks. I can handle this task, but I'm not confident how to extract the attachments from each record (around 900) to a folder and have it do it automatically for all records. I can do it record by record, but that is not feasible with this many records.
how to extract all the attachments for each record, and have them saved in folders by their name or other ID, so I can link them back to the db via a hyperlink?
I am trying to make my form open directly when i open my access file.accdb. When i double click on my .accdb can it be done to open directly and only my form. I found a way to open my form but it opens the access program in the background.
I'm trying to automate a process of selecting a set of file/s and move them in a folder. When I click on a button, it should open a current folder that is setup in the code.
Lets say that I have a folder C:documents est, and very time I click on the button, it should open the dialog box with that path so I can select the files from another folder, drag them there and they will be saved in that folder.
This will form part of wider automation that will send an email stating that those file/s where placed in that folder.
I have in the same form where the button is placed, 3 check boxes that needs to be passed to the email as well that one or all the files where placed in the folder.
I'm trying to open a folder based on a BIN nr. This folder could be in a main folder that has diferent subfolder. As there where differnt naming used to create the folderes, one of the things they have always is the BIN nr. It alwasy start with a unique number and maybe I could use it to scan the subfolders and open that one that the BIN nr is equal as in the field BIN.
Now we have serveral 1000th of folders and finding them takes time.
I understand that their are several ways to work with pictures and comboboxes. Working with an OLE Picture is not prefered. But I only need to add 5 little signatures. Previous attempts, like trying to connect with my SharePoint site and our server didn't work. So I have only one option left which is to work with an OLE object. Because the pictures (signatures) are just arround 15kb, I think it will not influence my database a lot.
Because I only have about 2 weeks experience working with Access, I can't enable to show the signature (Picture in jpg or bmp) when a person is selected in a combobox. I compared the code with several other posts but all do it very differently. Signature is an OLE field. In this field for each inspector I paste his Signature.
In the form I'm trying to show his Signature via a combobox. But I can't find out how I have to make the connection between the Picture field and the table were the picture is stored. And this in combination with a combobox. Here is my code were I'm struggling with:
Option Compare Database Option Explicit Private Sub Inspector_AfterUpdate() Select Case Inspector.Value Case "Inspectors_Name" Me.Signature.Picture = Me.Inspector.Column(2)
I've got the forms and queries in one .accdb file and my tables in a separate .accdb file. The forms file links to the tables in the tables file. The tables file resides in a folder called simply enough C:acc_tables and thats where i browsed to (obviously) when i set up the linkage.
One of the users does not wish (for whatever goddamn reason) to create a C:acc_tables file to stick the tables file in , and wants the tables file in some other folder.. Unfortunately this user does not have the skills to delete the existing links and re-link to the tables file after putting it in the folder he wants.
Where in the file that holds the forms and and queries do i find the path setting to the tables linked file? Can it be changed without deleting links and then re-linking?
Not sure if this is can be done: I have a picture and I want to change its color in accordance with values in another textBox. Is that possible? if Yes, then what would be the procedure and the codes?
The form is specifically made to be wider than the screen, so that there is a scroll bar at the bottom. I have an embedded picture for the background which is intended to be the size of the form, meaning that the picture is also wide.
In Design view, I can see that the background picture fits the form perfectly, which is what I want to see in Form View.
In Form view, though, the picture is squished to fit the screen. The only time it doesn't do that is if I set the Picture Size Mode to Clip, but then it only shows a portion of it, and when I scroll horizontally, the background picture doesn't scroll with it.
