I have a form and I am not sure of the best way to populate the multiple fields on it.
The form consists of a textbox to select a date (txtDate) and then once this date is selected I want the multiple textboxes on the form to be populated from data I have in a table.
The name of each textbox is a concatenation of "txt" the number of the person which is a number from 1 to 4 and then a time eg for 12 Noon it would be 1200 so the textboxes are from txt10800 to txt42000 i.e. each person has textboxes from 8.00am to 8.00pm in half hour intervals.
I need to use two tables to populate these textboxes as in the main table there are codes that have a relationship to fields within another table that holds attributes for that code. (eg code 123 could equal Service A in the second Table but 123 is what is held on the main table) Also in the main table I have a calculated field that creates the name of the relevant textboxes on the form.
If there is a textbox that will not be populated as there is nothing in that time period then I would like this to be left blank or Null.
Am I best creating a query and binding the form to this query or to leave it unbounded and use a recordset within VBA
I have a customers form, on which i have a textbox to allow the user to search and show a record by surname. I have got it working, but i do not know how to accomodate the possibility that there might be two members with the same surname, e.g. Smith.(the PK is member ID)here is the code:Private Sub cmdSearch_Click() Dim strMemberRef As String Dim strSearch As String 'Check txtSearch for Null value or Nill Entry first. If IsNull(Me![txtSearch]) Or (Me![txtSearch]) = "" Then MsgBox "Please enter a value!", vbOKOnly, "Invalid Search Criterion!" Me![txtSearch].SetFocus Exit SubEnd If 'Performs the search using value entered into txtSearch'and checks this against values in strStudentID DoCmd.ShowAllRecords DoCmd.GoToControl ("Surname") DoCmd.FindRecord Me!txtSearch Surname.SetFocus strMemberRef = Surname.Text txtSearch.SetFocus strSearch = txtSearch.Text 'If matching record found sets focus in strStudentID and shows msgbox'and clears search control If strMemberRef = strSearch Then MsgBox "Match Found For: " & strSearch, , "Record Found" Surname.SetFocus txtSearch = "" 'If value not found sets focus back to txtSearch and shows msgbox Else MsgBox "Match Not Found For: " & strSearch & " - Please Try Again.", _ , "Invalid Search Criterion!" txtSearch.SetFocus End IfEnd SubCan anyone shed some light as to what I should do? Im looking to have a next button or something to show the rest of the records, or have the search button change to say next if there are more records. Thanks in advance
I'm relatively new to MS Access (using MS Access 2013 but the db should work on 2010, too) and try to develop a database for an NGO I'm working in. I created almost all the tables (all that I need for now) and made the relationships.
However now I start to create forms and later reports for the actual user. The database will store information about clients and track consultations and assistance the NGO gives to them. There will be around 50.000 to 70.000 clients in the main table. Every client has a specific Individual ID and is member of a family which itself has another specific Group ID.
Now here is my problem: The User usually searches for the respective family by the Group ID. I implemented this with a search query using the ID number of a search text box. All done and no big problem.
But sometimes the ID number is not known so the user needs to search by name (First and Last Name). I use to different textboxes for this and it works in a similar way like the number search by query (Like "*" & [Forms]![frm_SearchIC]![txt_LName] & "*"). All still good However since most of the clients are actually from arabic speaking countries, converting the names into the Latin alphabet is bound to fail and produce a lot of misspellings. Therefore I added 2 more textboxes and 3 comboboxes for the user to give more information about the client and therefore make it easier to search for the person. I was able to produce a query which gives you the right result if you have ALL information at hand. However, this is not always the case.
1) But I cannot find a way to tell the query that if the a certain textbox or combobox is empty, it shall just "ignore" it and use the information at hand. I tried this in the query by adding in the criteria OR .... Is Null. This is alright for one or two textboxes but for the many I have, it seems to be too many different combinations for the criteria. It just worked with some fields but others always had to be filled in...
2) If no information is given at all, the database should inform the user that he needs to enter at least on field. If nothing is found the user should get a msgBox saying "No IC matches your criteria".
3) The results of the searches should be given out in another form where the user can pick the person from 1-to-many results.
I attached a sample database with sample data and reduced tables, fields, and entries ...
I want to know a way of populating unbound textboxes with data from a table without using the easy assigning data in the property of the box. I want it to be all done with code, which to me isnt a huge deal but I've yet to find answers on the web pertaining to this issue.
for example:
Say i was searching a primary key in one box and based on what ever is typed in i'd like it to populate the rest of the textboxes.
I am trying to create the form so when the first field (Start Date) has a date selected, it limits the following field (Report Date) to the matching available data, and same with the third field (Production Division) on the previous two.
I also need the form to allow new dates / production division combinations, but not duplicate.
I starting working with a cascade function but got confused and not sure if that is where I should be headed.
I have attached 2 different formats of the same sample data.
I haven't been able to find if there is a maximum length of text within a textbox.
I have a form on a club database, and one of the textboxes has the details of their photographic experience. I have one person who is a very experienced worker and I need to add more details in the textbox. Currently there are 29 characters, including spaces in the box, but it won't allow me to add any more. I have set the width of the box on the form to a wider setting, but this makes no difference. What can I do?
Now I have a combo box "cbo_items" and a text box "txt_selectedItems", I want to populate text field with items selected from the combo box, every time i select an item it appears in text box and to be separated with comma, so text box appears like this ( item1, item2, item3), and after finishing the whole thing the result appears in lable "lbl_result" as "total items selected: 3 items".
I have a form with checkboxes, indicating fields which can be selected for a query. The strSQL variable works fine, and I can use QUERYDEF to create a query from the variable.
I wonder if it is possible to generate a form to display only the fields chosen - i.e. I don't want a general form with all fields, with only the chosen ones displaying data. Instead, if I select only 5 of the 10 fields, I want the form only to show those 5 fields.
Creating textboxes for each field, and using the .visible property, but then I would have lots of gaps on the form.
I hoped it might be possible to use a loop with a value set something like
For i = 1 to fieldcount textbox(i).recordsource = selectedfld(i) 'somehow know where to place the textbox!?!! Next
I have a form with two textboxes called: txtAptDep, txtAptArr.
On their right side there are two buttons (btn1, btn2) to open a form called frmAirportSearch. It allows to choose (from a listbox) the airport to be filled in those two textboxes.
Now, if I search for an airport pressing btn1, I want the airport to be returned into txtAptDep, while if I open the form by btn2, the airport choosen must be returned in the second textbox.
I have a form with two textboxes that get their values from two different queries that counts records from table. If textbox1.value equals texbox2.value the textbox2.value back ground colour is green. If they are not equal textbox2.value goes red. Itried with using conditional formatting, but it doesn't work all the time as the form is not updating when it is opened.
When UseDDelivery is checked the three textboxes should be disable and when the form is opened UseDDelivery is set to be checked by default so the textboxes should be disabled when the form opens but they aren't. the two different ways of doing it are shown below.
Elements specific to my system :UseDDelivery = checkbox AltDeliveryAddress = textbox1 AltDeliveryTown = textbox 2 AltdeliveryPostcode = textbox3 Solution 1:
This is a bit of vba a friend wrote for me quickly, it includes all three textboxes but the checkbox enables them instead of disables.
solution 2:
Code: Private Sub UseDDelivery_AfterUpdate() If AltDeliveryAddress.Enabled = True Then AltDeliveryAddress.Enabled = False Else AltDeliveryAddress.Enabled = True End If End Sub
With this bit of vba I found the checkbox enables the textbox instead of disabling it and I can't figure out how to include the other two textboxes
I have a Form in a datasheet view and i would like to be able to double click on a record (ideally any part of the record but if not, on the name at least) and have it open up a form to that record details.
Picture 1 is the table with the records in.
Picture 2 is the form i want it to open and populate.
I have multiple reports that use similar IIF statements as the controlsource for four textboxes. Naturally, I don't want to have to update twelve controlsources if any of the calculations change, so I thought I'd make this a public function. However, I don't know how to pass along multiple textboxes as variables. Here's what I have so far:
Code: Option Compare Database Public Function txtColor(ByRef textbox As Control) Dim str1, str2, str3, str4 As String 'The IIf statement is simplified for this example. It's not important. str1 = "=IIf(IsNull([Inquiry start date]),'W',IIf([txtInquiry]<1 And IsNull([Inquiry end date]),'R'))"
[Code] ....
And this is in the report (where ??? is what I'm asking about)
Code: Private Sub Report_Load() Call txtColor(???) End Sub
In the Contacts Table there are two fields, the unique Contact ID key field numeric and the Contact Name. Like this:
Contact_ID; Name 1; Tom 2; Dick 3; Harry
In a form named "Selection" there is a Combo box that references the Contact table, and lists just the three names in the drop down (showing the Contact_ID is optional - I'm fine either way):
Tom Dick Harry
When the selection is made it will populate the field Contact_Ref the table called SelectedName.
Question: When the user selects the name I'd like the data populated in the SelectedName table to be the Contact_ID Value, and not the Name, so if Harry is selected the Value "3" would be saved.
I'm using a combo box to pull data from a table to auto populate the fields on my form. But for some reason, it stops inserting the data after city (column(6) and I can't figure out what's going on. When I run the query the data is there, if I change the order of the columns, the data shows. Here's the code:
I've been trying to populate a field in a form with information, but only if the field is blank.
What I am trying to do is this.
I have a continuous form displaying all of our principals, however when our principals are on leave I want to populate the field with the "acting principal". I have set it up so the field grabs the acting principal first but it is blank for several schools. For these schools where there there is no "acting principal" I want it to grab the substantive principal automatically and populate the field.
I have tried Is Null, Is Not Null, NZ, IF, Where and Then statements but to no avail.
So I have a continuous form and I have a button that is pressed when a job is released and it record a date in a field. I wanted to turn that button to disabled after pressed but after lots of reading found that it couldn't be done in a continuous form due to it disabling all buttons . So I decided to just make the code populate the field only if it was a null value so that it wouldn't overwrite a value if someone pressed it more than once. Well the null is my downfall in all this. I cannot make it compare and populate the date when the button is pressed. I have tried all I can find on the net and all I can think of.
The main issue I'm having is trying to populate a text box based on a combo box selection. I've found threads on that - the twist that is throwing me for a loop is that I'm dealing with two different forms.
I have a main/welcome form with two combo boxes on it. Based on the user's selections in these two combo boxes, two different forms are opened for data entry. For instance, box 1 has A, B, C and box 2 has x, y, z. If a user chooses B and z, then form B and form z are opened. What I want is for a text box to be populated on one of the opened forms, not the same (main/welcome) form. In other words, when B and z are chosen, I would like there to be a textbox autofilled with "z" on form z.
Is it possible to fill up multiple (say four or five) textfields from a combo box(or lookup) I looked in previous posts saw something about RecodSource, but couldnt figure it out?
I've tried manipulating my code in always but cant solve my current issue. My 3 tables are Clientdetails, Clientcontact and Clientdoctor. All the lookups below work fine. clientname is a textbox i use to search the Database and populate my form unbound. i want to populate other textboxes with data from Clientcontact table as well. I'm using a command button relevant to the clientname search.
1) Department + source of Tag+ specific Date 2) Department + Specific Date 3) Source of Tag + Specific Date 4) All records
This query is meeting my 2nd and 3rd condition however if I delete the parameters for 2nd and 3rd 1st combination works fine. But I want all four conditions met in one query
Im just starting to program in Access.. can somebody please help me with my problem? Im trying to figure out how to search the table with the content of my textbox. (Ex. i input "A" in my textbox, it should display all the records of "A" like it's AGE, STATUS, etc.) it doesn't have to be case sensitive or exact because i have a primary key that doesn't accept duplicate. Thanks to anyone who'll help
I have a continuous form and having trouble with the layout. When i fill in the record and then tab to the new record it displays the textboxes on top of the last one instead creating a new line bellow?
