Aug 10, 2014

I have a field on a form that is the results of a dlookup to a table.field. I want the value to be updated when I execute a button that is running a macro. How do I do this automatically, and not have to hit the refresh button?

Refresh Combo Box Contents

Aug 3, 2006

I have a combo box on a form to enable users to find records. When the form opens initially, these boxes are blank. However, after a search has been performed, the selected information in the combo box stays there, as well as the record opening up. How can I make the combo box revert to being blank after the record has opened on the form?

Thanks in advance,

Gary

Forms :: DLookup - How To Get Combo Box To Display Data Into A Field In Form

May 16, 2014

My intentions are to get my combo box to display data into a field in my form, when it is changed/selection is made. So far my form has the following:

Combobox: CBOCharacters
Field: CharacterGender

Both of these are in the same table; tbl_Characters. The data type for CBOCharacters is a number and its called CharacterID in the table.

So far I have created this piece of code:

Private Sub CBOCharacters_AfterUpdate()
Me.CharacterGender = DLookup("CharacterGender", "qry_StillNeeded", "[CharacterID]= " & Me.CBOCharacters)
End Sub

When I run this event procedure i get an error:

Runtime error '2471'

The expression you entered as a query parameter produced this error '[CharacterID]'

Forms :: How To Refresh A Field Automatically

Feb 25, 2015

I have a form which has a field named VendorID it gets data from the following query

SELECT TOP 2 V.VendorID, V.VendorName, COUNT(A.ClaimNumber) AS Total_assignment, V.VendorStatus
FROM dbo.VendorMaster V LEFT OUTER JOIN
dbo.VendorAssignment A ON V.VendorID = A.VendorID
GROUP BY V.VendorID, V.VendorName, V.VendorStatus
HAVING (V.VendorStatus = N'Active')
ORDER BY COUNT(A.ClaimNumber)

So, if we look at the code it should give me top 2 by ascending , but whats happening here is once i refresh it gives me top 2 and it stays the same until and unless i go to view mode and come back to the form mode( refresh) again. automatic code or something which can make this one update automatically?

Contents Of A Field Based On The Contents Of Another Field

Jul 14, 2006

Hi,
I'm making a form where the contents of a field is determined on the contents of another field in another form. I thought an IIF function would work, but when I tried it the contents says #NAME.

I put it in the control source.

IIF([Forms]![Frm_NewBusiness]![Page4]![Child51]="NTU",NewBusiness_Date_Issued="NTU",NewBusiness_Date_Issued)

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Ben

Forms :: Subform To Popup Relationship And With Refresh Of Calculated Field

Apr 3, 2014

I have a "Main" form called frmProjects that sports multiple tabs. One of those tabs is labelled "Milestones", into which I inserted a datasheet subform called frmSubMilestones. The table that feeds the subform is tblMilestones. I established the parent / child relationship between frmProject and frmSubMilestones, and everything is working just fine...

To summarize: frmProject as main form -> Milestones Tab on main form -> frmSubMilestones as datasheet subform on the Milestones Tab (there are other tabs that are not subforms).

I have been asked, for each milestone in the frmSubMilestones subform's datasheet, to capture the number of days spent by employees on a monthly basis. The Milestones table and the PersonDays table have a primary key and a foreign key that are similar.

To summarize: frmSubMilestones as subform -> txtAggregatePersonDays as calculated Textbox fetching data from tblPersonDays -> OnClick event -> FormLoad of frmPersonDays as datasheet PopUp form.

DoCmd.FormLoad is supplied with the usual parameters to make the PopUp form appear, filtered on the currently highlighted milestone. Everything works fine so far... well almost.

Problem 1: When I introduce new rows in the frmPersonsDays datasheet, everything seems fine at the surface, BUT the primary key of the calling form (i.e. frmSubMilestones) does not appear in the tblPersonDays table; this is normal because there is no form-based parent / child relationship between the two forms. As one might expect, I am trying, from frmPersonDays, to get the primary key value from the "parent" frmSubMilestones using the Forms collection. No dice. I surfed and surfed, tried the bang and the dot operators, drank scotch, but nothing worked. I had to add foreing keys manually in tblPersonDays to further my tests. I can't figure out how to reach any control on the calling form, which is a subform.

Problem 2: The calculated txtAggregatePersonDays on the frmSubMilestones works wonders for existing data in tblPersonDays. However, when I introduce new rows in the PopUp form, I also realized that the calculated Textbox in frmSubMilestones is not updated when I close the frmPersonDays PopUp. I have to close the PopUp form and move the cursor in the Main form (frmProjects) to refresh its associated milestones.

Forms :: Contents Disappear In Form Or Layout View

I seem to be having an issue with a split form I've been working on. I created this split form on Monday and it was working just fine but today, I have added a couple minor text boxes. Since then, I can view the form contents in Design View but when I switch to "Form View" or "Layout View", it's all gone minus the logo in the top left corner and the title for the split form.

Problem With Bound Field Refresh On A Form

Jun 12, 2006

Hello All,I am new to Access and VB and have gained some very very useful tips from this site whilst compiling my new project.I have a question which I have been unable to find anywhere here.I have two tables at the moment. One is the main table from which my form is created. My second table is a list of registrations and the corresponding number of current hours accrued by the registration (eg ABC has 512 hours used)I query the rego table on my main form to give me a listbox so that for each new record, the user can select the rego, and the starting hours are automatically filled in the 'Start hours' field on the form (using an after update event to set the hours after the rego is selected), which is bound to the 'Start Hours' Field on the main table, so that when it is saved, the info saves to my main table. When the user returns, they then enter their Finish hours, and this finish hours is then written to the rego table, so that next time the rego is selected the start hours is the same number as the finish hours from the last time the item was used. Now for the problem. Users can fill out some parts of the form, and take it before the finishing hours are entered for the previous record. Therefore, when they return to enter their finishing hours, the starting hours hasn't updated on the form, and it doesn't change unless they reselect the rego from the list box to trigger the after update event. Is there any way, (I have tried, Me.Refresh, Requery etc) I can get the after update event to fire in the current form automatically, ie without having to reselect the same rego again? Is there a way to just refresh the rego field so that it thinks that it has updated and triggers the after update?I may have now made it clear as mud, but this is my first post so any help would be very much appreciated. I can elaborate on any problems if needs be.Thanks in advance for your help!

Forms :: Refresh Form That Is Already Opened

Mar 17, 2013

I have forms that show commitments by Client, by Cost Centre, by Provider etc.

If I add new commitments or edit commitments it is done through the Commitments by Client form, as all other forms lead back to this one.

To create a new or edit an existing commitment, it is done through a Commitment Form, which goes into a query (query A)which does all the calculations. My client form has subforms based on Query A, however my other forms (commitments by Cost Centre etc) have subforms which have querys that are based on Query A . I hope that made sense.

My problem is that If I edit a commitment, the client form and subforms refrlect the changes imediately, even though they are open and I can see them changing when I change the commitments. However the other ones don't unless I close them and re-open them.

My navigation within the database is based on once a form has been opened it is set to be invisible untill called on again (i.e. visible = False).

How to requery all the forms without having to close them.

Forms :: Error 3022 On Form Refresh

Dec 1, 2014

I have an Access 2010 database with a form that allows me to input data which is saved into two tables (i.e. Orders and OrderDetails). I use a simple select query to bind the form to the tables.

When the form loads it asks for an order number, which it uses to pull details from the Orders table and auto-fill some fields on the form (these fields are not enabled as they are predefined, such as the order date).

So, when the order number is entered my VBA code does a Form.Refresh, which then breaks the code with the Run-time error 3022 - "The changes you requested to the table were not successful yada yada.." (I'm sure you all know the one)...

I have checked that there are no duplicated keys in my tables, I have checked that what should be indexed, is indexed. I have done a compact and repair on the database, and even created a new database and imported all the tables (used new data). Still get the same issue.

Forms :: Refresh Current Form With Filtered Records

Sep 13, 2013

I have a form that displays records from a table.

When opened it displays all records (no selection yet).

I put would like to put 2 buttons to filter records (Male/Female).

I'm thinking of 2 possible options:

1-on click run a script that will close current form, then reopen it with selection criteria
2-directly apply a filter on the current form that would automatically refresh itself with the right records

Another (heavy, inelegant?) solution would be to create duplicates of this form. they would be loaded from separate queries that select the right records in either choice.

Forms :: Refresh Form Data On Button Click

Feb 24, 2015

Here is the scenario:

Form 1 - Data entry for a new project
Form 2 - Data entry for a task associated with the project in the Form 1

Button on form 1 that opens Form 2.

What I am trying to do:

Use a combobox on Form Two to choose the Project entered into Form 1, so I can capture the Form1 PK as a FK on Form 2.

Here is the problem:

Refreshing the record on the button click so that the new option entered into Form 1 shows up in the combo box on Form 2.

Full disclosure:
I'm not much good at VBA so I have been trying to do this by customizing the button macro. I have tried Refresh, and Requery, but I can't seem to get it to update the list in the combo box.

2 questions:

1. How can I get this accomplished?
2. Is there a better way to get this data into the table than what I am trying to do?

Forms :: How To Make Form Refresh After Deleting A Record In Subform

Sep 3, 2014

I have been trying to figure out how to make a form refresh after deleting a record in a subform. The code in the combo box that populates the subform works fine. If you select the "Action" of "sign" from the unbound combo box above the subform, it places "Sign" in the the subform and then makes a checkbox on the main form [WillTake] = True.

But when I delete the record by right clicking on the entry, the focus is sent back to the main form so I can refresh the form and thus update the [WillTake] checkbox. I have tried just about everything. I can get the focus to a field on the form, but I cannot figure out how to refresh or requery the form.

The code to transfer focus is on the OnDelete of the subform.

I have included a watered down version of the DB.

Forms :: Refresh Parent Form And Move To Next Record On Subform

Dec 10, 2013

I have two subforms on a "Page"/Tabs. Subform #1 is a continuous form which accepts data about dimensions of a pattern piece. The other subform needs to update its information display each time the last control of the first subform loses focus, because it tells me how much material is required for all pieces of this pattern that are entered.

My first feeble attempt at this was to add the following code to the "Lost Focus" event of the final control on the first subform:
Form.Parent.Refresh

This succeeded in forcing the second subform to re-run its calculation.

However, after the recalculation took place, I wasn't able to move to the next record on the first subform. This subform is a continuous form, and I need to be able to add another row of data and then see the second subform change based on the additional information in the first subform.

Obviously I've done this wrong.
