Forms :: Retrieving Value Through Combo Box Based On Query

Sep 26, 2013

I have 4 tables:

table 1: two fields: t_code (primary key), town_name
table 2: two fields: Distri_code (Primary Key), Distri_name
Table 3:two fields: T_D (Primary key), t_code (foreign key), distri_code (foreign key)
Table 4:A_T (Prim key), T_D (Foreign key), area_code (foreign key)
table 5: area_code (pri key), area

I want to make a form on table 4 where both foreign keys are numbers. On the data entry form on this child table, i am trying to link towns and areas. At the front end form, i want a combo or list item showing town_name (table1) and distri_name (table 2).

Once the end user selects the required town and district from available options, i want to retrieve T_D from table 3 through query based on input from both values and save it table 4 in place of T_D along with area_code, which i can retrieve simply from table 5.

Forms :: Retrieving A Number Based Upon Two Inputs

Oct 17, 2014

I am looking for an elegant way to retrieve a number from a table and display it in a form, where the number is determined by two values that will be input by the user to the form.

In particular, I want to be able to enter into a form:

- a date; and
- a class of asset

And have the relevant rate of depreciation for that asset class and that year appear in the form.

Sounds trivial and I guess it can be done in a number of ways. I have tried DLookup. It looks like it should work, but I have not been able to get the syntax such that it will accept a control value as a field name in the first argument of DLookup. (This would involve a table much like a spread sheet with a column for each year. I guess such tables are frowned upon and I have also heard negative comments about Lookups.)

I have experimented with concatenating the two fields into one such there is only one field to search upon. Seems to work. The table would only be updated annually and would only be a few thousand records.

I have experimented with having two joins between tables, but that did not seem ideal.

Perhaps a query of a query?

Perhaps a macro?

(Assuming I can get the form to work I would also like to create a report that lists assets and their depreciation.)

Forms :: Change Record Source Of Combo Box On Form Based On Another Combo Box

Mar 31, 2014

I have a form that currently uses a "catch all" table for listing available equipment to choose from for an equipment field. I call it tblEquipment. What I want to do is to make it so when I type a name in (1 of 35) in one field of the current record, the record source for the equipment field immediately looks at a different table that has equipment available only for that name. To do this I plan on making 35 different tables with limited data originally found in tblEquipment. I would call these tblEquipment1, tblEquipment2, etc. I do not use a sub form, nor do I want to.

So my questions are:

1) can this be done
2)If it can be done, how can I do it?

Forms :: Fill Text Box Based On Combo Box (not Using Columns In Combo Box)

May 21, 2014

I'm looking for a way to have a text box auto fill based on the selection of a combo box on the same form. I cannot use the method i find all over the internet of using multiple columns in the combo box and basing the text box on that because the combo box already has multiple columns being used to determine its own possibilities and other combo box possibilities.

I would really just like the text box to work like this, but im still kinda inexperienced in VBA...

If combo box is "F004-001", then text box is "237"
If combo box is "F004-003", then text box is "280"

I know how to add in an "after update" thing, but i do not know how to do If/then statements.

I'm trying to build a database for daily work. My work in daily basis I have to fill all condition for several items.

We have two areas, with two locations under each area, and three systems under each location and each system contain more than 500 items.

I created all tables and fill by all information:

1-Table 1: Area 1, Area 2, Area 3, Area 4, Area 5, Area 6.
2-Table 2: Location 1, Location 2.
3-Table 3: System 1, System 2, System 3.
4-Table 4: all items under System 1-1-1
5-Table 4: all items under System 1-1-2

[Code] ....

Last table will be LogBook which will be as follow:

date l time l area l location l system l item l Conition1 l Conition2 l Conition3

My question regarding to the form of the above table:

How can I make a combo box for area field and when I select for example area1 will appear only the locations which under area1 in location field, and when I select location1 for example will appear only the systems under location1 in system field, and when I select system1 one for example will appear only items under system 1.Combo box list will be based on the selection in previous combo box and so on.

Forms :: Combo Box With Values Based On Another Combo Box

I have a main form that filters data in a subform based on selections via combo box users make on the main form.

So I have the 'department' and 'manager's name'. If someone selects 'Human Resources' from 'department' combo box, then I only want to see the managers that are in the Human Resources departement when I drop down the combo box for 'manager's name'. Currently I'm seeing all the managers and a user can select a manager that is not in human resources and get no data returned. I prefer for him to get a list of those that are in that department only. The source of the combo box is a query.

I got it! Found here: [URL] ....

Forms :: One Combo Box Based On Another Combo Box And Text Box Uses

Jun 4, 2013

I have been creating a form, based on only one table. Here I am displaying data as text boxes and subfrom from the same table. At the beginning, I was interested in controlling the display of the data according to the combo box (in this case is the PO number). Now, I would like to add another combox box which is the year (I have a column with the date, and also I have a column that shows only the years digits in my table) Also, I have a subform that display the data from the same table specifics records that I want. It means that I want to pick the year first, and then in the combox box of po number shows only option of that year, and hence the text boxes and subforms change accordingly to the two combox boxes.

What I would like to achieve is when I select a value from 'cboMake' that 'cboModel' will filter it's data values to only display Models that are linked to Make i.e. if I select Make Logitech I would like it to only display the following results for Model: 'K120', 'K200', 'G500', 'G502' etc. and not display any of the other values associated with another Make.

I've tried the following:

- Looked through the Northwind sample database for a close example. Tried my best to replicate the functions but it didn't work
- Looked through other examples posted and tried to manipulate the code to no avail
- Tried using [Forms]![Main Form]![cmbLastName] in both the filter & criteria section of the macro

Forms :: Combo Box Based Search

Sep 29, 2014

The idea is populate the 2 Comboboxes and year and after that query something like:

Code:
SELECT FileEntryNo, GroupCode, SubGrpName, SubGrpNo, FileNo, GroupName, Subject, NameTo, NameFrom, ConnectedFile, DocumentDate, Month,
Spelmonth, Year, Reference
FROM dbo.Files
WHERE (GroupCode LIKE 'XXX') AND (SubGrpName LIKE 'YYY') AND (Year = ZZZ)

So after the query is executed the results will be available on a third Combobox that after selecting a record will show the detail on the fields.

Retrieving Results From Query Using VBA

Jul 16, 2015

I've got an access database that I am working on, but I have now ran into a problem where I can not figure out the correct VBA syntax to use. As a sidenote - I am using Access 2003. What I would like to do is find out the syntax to use to retrieve data from a query result.

I have a query, that when ran, searches a table that contains 4 columns. The query prompts the user to enter a number which would be found in column 1. It then searches for every match of that number that was entered, and only returns a result if there is an occurrence where column 4 is empty on the same row. The max number of occurrences where column 4 can be empty is 1. So to summarize, when I run the query, it either returns a blank record (with a 0 in the first 2 columns and last 2 columns blank) or it will return a record that matches the criteria.

What I would like to do is if no records are found, I need to go to the Time_IN form. If 1 result is found, I need to go to the Time_OUT form. I am unsure of the syntax to use and my IF statement fails every time, reverting to the else statement. Here is a copy of the current code I am using (The Me.MO_ID = Null was my attempt at retrieving the results from the query):

Code:
Option Compare Database
Private Sub Command3_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_Command3_Click
DoCmd.OpenQuery "Open MO Evaluation Query", acViewNormal, acEdit

[Code] ....

Forms :: How To Get RowSource For Combo Box Based On Value Of Different Object

Sep 9, 2013

I have a form with several objects:

Projects -> which have Sources -> which have SourceTypes

The underlying DB has tables for Projects, Sources and SourceTypes:

Code:
Table Projects;
Fields:
ProjectID : AutoNumber;
etc, etc

[Code] ....

So, I'm trying to get all the Sources for a given ProjectID, and I'm using the following SQL statement:

Code:
SELECT ID, ProjectID, Sequence, Name from Sources WHERE [Sources].ProjectID= MyProject.ProjectID;

Which actually gets coded (because MyProject.ProjectID is a variable) as:

"SELECT ID, ProjectID, Sequence, Name from Sources WHERE [Sources].ProjectID= " & MyProject.ProjectID & ";"

What actually happens is that Access jumps in and says (via a Message Box) "Give me a value for Source.ProjectID.

I've just done that in the SQL statement!

How do I get a 'real' SELECT to work for the RowSource?

Forms :: Adding Table New Entries With Form Retrieving Data

I have quite an extensive form linked to a table. When I add new columns to the table I seem to have a problem getting the form to read the data.I have just added a numerical column to the table and added a text box on the form that is bound to it. When I try to pull up the value using VBA it is blank, even though an entry is visible on the form. I have set the text box to general number and the entry shows in the actual table. When typing in the entry into VBA it capitalises where required so it must be registering the table entry. However the value it pulls remains blank.

Forms :: Field In Form Based On Combo Boxes

My database is using data that is entered by the employees to generate Quotations. There is one important piece of information that will not be entered by the employee. The quotes involve metals which are priced based on market price and weight. I am planning on integrating a data feed with this information, but for now I want to enter it manually in a table. The price depends on two combo boxes one for "Precious or Base Metals", and one for "Metal Name". I want those two values to call the price from a table, and automatically fill in the "Market Price" field in the form. Also once that is in I would like to do my calculations. I am planning on using queries to do these. Is that the correct method?

Forms :: Color Text Field Based On Value Of Combo Box

Feb 28, 2015

I have a table named ColorValues with the following three fields:

- ID
- MunsellCode
- RGBValue

30 fields from another table called Color_Analysis are linked to the above with one to many relationships (I've already thought of other ways to normalize data, but this is the most efficient, so no need to go into this topic).

Now, I've constructed a form for Color_Analysis and all 30 fields recording color are included as combo boxes bounded on the ID in ColorValues and displaying the MunsellCode for the user. I've also created unbounded text fields next to the combo boxes and want to use them to display the color that the user selected in the ComboBox. The question is how do I do this?

Essentially I need a piece of code that picks up the value of the combo box (this is essentially the ID in ColorValues), looks up that value in the ID column of the ColorValues table and uses the corresponding RGBValue of the same table as the .BackColor for the unbounded text field.

Forms :: Change Items In A Combo Box Based On A Field

May 29, 2014

So I have a combobox that pulls values from a table. I am being requested to do an update to the database which means that I have to filter some values on that combobox based on a field on a previous form. For example:The main form is called "frmcontacts" and has a table field called "txttypeofcustomer" which can have two values: "customer" or "dealer".

The form that contains the combobox is called "frmnewissue" the combobox is called "cmbissuetype". "frmNewIssue" is opened through a button on "frmContacts". This combobox pulls the values from a table "tblissuetype". The values in that combobox are then: "Repair" "Return" "Question" "Replace".

If the value on txtTypeofCustomer is "Dealer" then all the values for the combobox remain visible. If the value of txtTypeOfCustomer is "Customer" then "Replace" cannot be visible or has to be greyed out.
