What I'm trying to do: I have created an unbound field within a subform's footer to calculate the average of the displayed record values. The subform is in datasheet view. The records are returned based on a query with a relationship between two tables. I need the calculated data (which I currently have displayed on the main form) to populate within the master table.
I can't figure out how to automatically do this. I created a simple command to get it there, but I'd like the user not to need a button to display a calculation.
Main form based on TableA; subform based on TableB.
Here's how I have it set up (Btw, I suck at SQL I just figure this is easiest to read):
Query SQL looks like this: SELECT tblB.Field1, tblB.Field2 FROM tblB.Field1 INNER JOIN tblA ON tblB.Field1 = tblA.Field1
Main form: unbound txtbox = [Forms]![frmA]![subfrmA].Form.[txtAvg]
The field that is averaged is tblB.Field2. There are potentially a bunch of records displayed in the subform.
I need that [txtAvg] field to save to TableA. My command button is simply Me.tblA.FieldName = Me.unboundtxtbox. I'd like to do away with that.
I tried to use the on current or on load event for the main form; but the calculated field value is 0 until it calculates it. It seems like there is a short delay before the value shows up on the form at which point the on current or on load events don't pick up the calculated value; just the 0 that is initially there.
i have a total in an invoice with is a tabulated form with totals in the detail footer I want to post the calculated total (control) to a table. How ia this done.
I need to make a calculated field show up on my table. My database is for technicians at work to log their hourly health checks. I have a field on form "Health Check" called "HC_ID" that I automatically bring over to the next form called "Channel_Scan_Form" with the control source property. I would like the data from this field to copy to the accompanying table called "ChannelScan_Table" from this "Channel_Scan_Form". I have tried to place the code in several different events on the property sheet but haven't had any luck bringing the data over to the table. I'm just starting to play with databases, plan on being here for a while and hopefully contributing in the future.
I have a form which calculates alot of numbers. Im trying to figure out how to save the calculation to a table field. Is this possible? Can someone help me with a solution please
In my UpdateForm I have 3 fields. PartNumber, Description and SerialNumber. I use 2 tables for these. My MainTable and PartsList Table.
In my PartsList table I have the list of PartNumber in Column (0) and Description in column (1).
In my MainTable I have 4 fields: TransactionID (autoNumber), PartNumber(text), Description(text) and SerialNumber (text).
Now, In my UpdateForm I want the user to just select the PartNumber with a combo box (that also show the "Description" (I created this using the combo box wizard)). But I want to auto populate the field in my "Description" text box every time the user will enter new record and will also update my MainTable with all the values they entered in my UpdateForm.
I tried this codes in the after update of PartNumber combo box (properties):
Hi everybody, i am an U Student from Singapore.and i am a new MS ACCESS learner. So please kindly advice me a question about MS ACCESS. I created one form called MonthlyTransaction. Inside this Form, i have another sub-form called Forecast. So my question is how do i save the MonthlyTransaction data into monthlyTransaction table and Forecast data into Forecast table? But the field name in Forecast table called MonthlyTransID is the value of MonthlyTransID in the MonthlyTransaction table.
I want to append/populate all data from one table to subform?
It is possible?
I managed to populate data from one table to another but my relations between form and subform isn't good, because record that is supposed to be filled as the "link master fields" is left blank.
in the control source. When a value is displayed in this field an ID number should be assigned to the PaymentID field, but this does not happen, the field remains null.
I'm trying to sum a couple of columns from a subform datasheet and carry them onto the main form.
My main form, [frm_tours_details], holds subform [sbfTours] which is a datasheet.
On [sbfTours], I've got a couple calculated fields within the datasheet, one, called "txtStudentSum", which calculates number of people total ([students]+[adults]+[numfreeteachers]) and one, called "txtptotal", which calculates fee for the program based on the following formula:
Code:
=IIf([txtMonth]>=10 Or [txtMonth]<=4,([Students]+[Adults])*7,([Students]+[Adults])*8)
(The fee is $8/person in season, and $7/person out of season.)
I've been following online directions I found to put a text box in the form footer which then sums each of these calculated fields ("txtStudentSum" & "txtptotal"), and then reference these text boxes from my main form.
However, the main form text boxes just come up as #Name? or #Error when I try to reference these boxes on the subform. Or, sometimes, the one calculating total students will show the total of ALL students, adults in the database, not just those for this particular record-but only, it seems, if I have the subform open separately first, then load the main form. I also tried putting the whole original calculations into text boxes on the main form, but they will only reflect either the current record selected in the subform, or they will only show the first record, regardless of what you've selected, depending on which way I tried.
I've attached a copy of the database ... click on the tab 'tours', then click on, say, tour #6 (since this one is multiple programs and needs to calculate) to open the tour details form.
Eventhough i know calculated control are for queries, I still need to store a calculated value of a sum. I have a form with customers, dates, locations. That form has a subform that contains the services done and materials used. This subform is in datasheet view. In the footer i have a control with =Sum([Price]).
So I need the value of this control to be stored in the table the main form is based on. I did an unbound control in the main form where the =Me!Subform.Form!.Textx will bring the value "over" Then for the on focus event the vba code Me.Total=Me.Textx stores the value. That is fine. The same works with a command button with the same vba code.
However i am asking if there is a more automatic way to get the value over without the unbound control/command button.
I've got a subform (simple table view) inside a main form, the subform (sfrmRecipes) just has an IngID field (which stores ingredient ID's) and a percentage field
I've added a few calculated fields to this subform, to assist users in making decisions, however each of these fields needs a sum total
So far my percentage field (which is an actual stored field in tblRecipes) is the only one with a functioning sum for some reason the two calculated fields (which are both plain numbers, no text) do not give me a sum total option, i am only able to use the count function on them
Why calculated fields dont sum up and if there is an easy way to get it working (tried creating my own text field in the footer and manually typing SUM(fieldname), but it does not work).
I am adding new record into subform via recordsetclone method. The problem is that record is added but on save it does not appear in the table. If add this record manual using subform everything works. When record added manually update of the record works fine.
C 'Add Wastage value to flooring area section Private Sub Wastage_AfterUpdate() Dim rsFlArea As DAO.Recordset Dim Wastage As Double Dim Item As String Set rsFlArea = Me.OrderFloorAreaEdit.Form.RecordsetClone
I have three tables: Vehicles; Vehicle Reallocated; and Vehicles Retired. I have a form that runs a query to find all the info in the Vehicles tbl that is not "Retired", not visible in the form. I then have the option to toggle to a Reallocated or Retired form. When i toggle to the reallocated form, i have the like fields in that table (ie Van #, Vin, Make etc) pulling the info from the hidden subform with the vehicle query, so i do not need to fill in repeat data. However, when i add a reallocated date and the new clinic that vehicle is for, i get the record ID for the vehicle reallocated table as expected, but when i save none of the data moved over from the query saves in the record?
How to get all the data on the reallocated form to save?
I have a continuous subform that displays lots of questions. This specific form has 10 questions on it. Each question has one answer and the users are required to select one answer for each question. I am trying to do some data validation before the data gets saved to my table to ensure that users have answered all the questions. I found some very useful code online and tweaked it to suit my needs. The validation works perfectly on subforms with only one question, as I have some other tabs that use it.
On the specific form that has the issue, the validation works as expected when no question has been answered, but when a user answers only one question and leaves the remaining nine questions blank, the validation does not work. I guess it is as a result of the continuous form repeating the different questions and ms access thinking that the data entered for one question alone is complete when it actually isn't.
Code: Private Sub Ctl4_frm_Staff_Exit(Cancel As Integer) Dim ctrl As Control, EmptyStr$ For Each ctrl In Form_subFrm_staffQuestion.Controls If InStr(1, ctrl.Tag, "Required") > 0 Then If IsNull(ctrl.Value) Or ctrl.Value = vbNullString Or Len(ctrl.Value) = 0 Then
I have a subform embedded in a main form, the subform has a field (text box) that is doing automatic calculation so no manual entries are needed from the user. I have tried to pass automatically the final result to a text box in the main form, but all events are not working (afterupdate, On change, On Dirty), etc.
I have a button to do the above mentioned in the main form, but I don’t want to use that button, I want to do all the process from the subform.
Also, from the subform I was able to do click on the button on the main form (programmatically), however MS Access is too quick and the value extracted from the subform is always empty (zero); Acees is finishing before the calculation is done.
I have a "Main" form called frmProjects that sports multiple tabs. One of those tabs is labelled "Milestones", into which I inserted a datasheet subform called frmSubMilestones. The table that feeds the subform is tblMilestones. I established the parent / child relationship between frmProject and frmSubMilestones, and everything is working just fine...
To summarize: frmProject as main form -> Milestones Tab on main form -> frmSubMilestones as datasheet subform on the Milestones Tab (there are other tabs that are not subforms).
I have been asked, for each milestone in the frmSubMilestones subform's datasheet, to capture the number of days spent by employees on a monthly basis. The Milestones table and the PersonDays table have a primary key and a foreign key that are similar.
To summarize: frmSubMilestones as subform -> txtAggregatePersonDays as calculated Textbox fetching data from tblPersonDays -> OnClick event -> FormLoad of frmPersonDays as datasheet PopUp form.
DoCmd.FormLoad is supplied with the usual parameters to make the PopUp form appear, filtered on the currently highlighted milestone. Everything works fine so far... well almost.
Problem 1: When I introduce new rows in the frmPersonsDays datasheet, everything seems fine at the surface, BUT the primary key of the calling form (i.e. frmSubMilestones) does not appear in the tblPersonDays table; this is normal because there is no form-based parent / child relationship between the two forms. As one might expect, I am trying, from frmPersonDays, to get the primary key value from the "parent" frmSubMilestones using the Forms collection. No dice. I surfed and surfed, tried the bang and the dot operators, drank scotch, but nothing worked. I had to add foreing keys manually in tblPersonDays to further my tests. I can't figure out how to reach any control on the calling form, which is a subform.
Problem 2: The calculated txtAggregatePersonDays on the frmSubMilestones works wonders for existing data in tblPersonDays. However, when I introduce new rows in the PopUp form, I also realized that the calculated Textbox in frmSubMilestones is not updated when I close the frmPersonDays PopUp. I have to close the PopUp form and move the cursor in the Main form (frmProjects) to refresh its associated milestones.
Hi Guys, What i am trying to do is, i have two tables called Table1 and Table2.
I have created a form called Form1. This Form1 has all the fields from Table1.
What i want to do is, as soon as a user fills in the details in Form1, obviuosly it saves those details in Table1, BUT i want it to save a couple of field values into Table2 as well.
How do i go about doing this??
In Table1 i can access the fields by "Me.[Fieldname]" (from the VB script), but how do i access Table2 OR how do i save data to Table2 from Form1.
Table 1: Vender Name, Number, contract, amount, quantity, and order number. Table 2: Doc #, Date. Multiple Doc #'s and dates will be saved under one vendor name (hence the two tables).
What I need is a MACRO where once I save the Doc #and Date to a record, I need to be able to go back to that record and enter a new Doc # without saving over the one I originally did.
Hello everyone, I have been trying to calculate the number of working days a person has off sick between two dates.I was aware of how to calculate the difference between two dates using datediff, this was not quite hat i needed. after much experimentation and a little searching I came across this site that has I would recommend to other beginners to use as a query and a module.
http://www.mvps.org/access/datetime/date0006.htm
I have a calculated field that uses this function to work out the number of days, My question is, Is it worth me saving this calculated field physically in my table instead of in the query?
The reason for this is that im only with company for limited time and others will be building reports in the future and would prob prefer to build reports on tables rather than queries. If so, how can I go about setting the field value to that of the query result?
Hi.. I cannot save the data in the forms I have made. once I close the form, all the saved infomation is lost when I reopen the form. But somehow they reman stored in the table. Any suggesstion on how to retain the records in the form too. Regards Rahul
There is a public master database with a bunch of tables and data in it being maintained by another group. My boss wants to skim some information from this, add some of his own information to it, and save it in a completely separate .mdb file on our server.
I've used Access to link to the public database, built a custom table just for us, and built a form. The form uses bound controls on the left side to pull in data from the public database, and unbound controls on the right side for user entry of data. I coded a VBA save button that should save all controls (bound/imported as well as unbound/data entry) to our local table.
The unbound controls save just fine, but the bound controls are missing from the table. A new row is created with no problems, I get no error messages, but half the fields in the table are just blank.
Code: DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec Dim Rs As Recordset 'Dim SDB As Recordset 'Dim strSQL As String Set Rs = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("Supervisor Table", dbOpenDynaset)
How can I make certain my user enters records on a subform before attempting to save the main form? Right now they can completely ignore the subform before saving the record. The Main form has business address, etc. on it. the subform is bound to a join table that lists the multiple categories, subcategories and sector the business is listed in for a directory.
I already have my fields set to required at the table level in the join table, and have some existing VBA in both my subform (to update edited date) and my form (to validate empty records where a certain condition is met) but that's not the issue...
How do I focus the user to enter a record on the subform to the point where they are forced to enter something and complete the subform before the record is updated.
