Forms :: Saving A Record And Closing A Popup Form
Jun 15, 2014
I have a popup called by a subform to add a new record or edit a selected record. I keep getting "Runtime error 32502". The value you entered isn't valid for the field "|"
I have no required fields and all the drop down related fields have the right value type in them (That I can find)The only "|" reference I can find is in the OpenArgs content below when I load the form. If I'm adding a new record I pass two fileds via the OpenArgs
Private Sub Command52_Click()
DoCmd.OpenForm "AddDebtorPaymentFrm", , , , acFormAdd, OpenArgs:=Me![DebtorId] & "|" & Me![MatterId]
End Sub
or if I'm modifying a record from the subform on click I
Private Sub Text38_Click()
DoCmd.OpenForm "AddDebtorPaymentFrm", acNormal, , "[Transactions].[TransId] = " & Me.TransId, acFormEdit
End Sub
Below is the Popup Load code
Private Sub Form_Load()
If Me.DataEntry = True Then
Me.VariableHeading = "Add A Debtor Payment"
[code]....

I have a form to add a record to a table. How can I give the user a way to close this form without saving the just created record.
I tried
If me.dirty then
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdDeleteRecord
endif
This works, but gives a messagebox in return to confirm the command, and I don't want that. And I try to avoid sendkeys. I also don't want to change the options of access.

I'm working on a database that has a subform which pulls its data from a table and I'm trying to use a popup form to enter the data in the sub form. For example the table is called student debts. The form is called student debt. The pop up form is called student debt entry from. I want the inform that's in the student debt entry form to be recorded in the student debt form which is a subform on the main form. I know i have to create a add new records button to do it but not sure of the code.

I have a form (frmAuditEntry) that includes a subform (sfrmAuditDetail). The user will enter audit information on the subform. There is a check box on the subform to identify containers that had errors in selection. When the box is check by the user, a pop up form opens where the user can enter the details regarding the type of error. The audit number and the container ID are carried over from the main form to the pop up form to link the information.
This is the code I have in the AfterUpdate event of the checkbox:
Private Sub Errors_AfterUpdate()
Dim rs As Object
Dim strBookmark As String
strBookmark = Me.ContainerID
Me.Requery
[Code] ....
This works great and keeps the focus on the record the user checked having errors so the right information transfers tot he pop up form fields. When the pop up form is closed, the focus goes back to the subform but keeps the focus on the container ID control of the record that the user previously checked as having errors (hope that makes sense).
What I would like to happen is this: When the pop up form is closed, I want the focus to go back to the subform but to go to the last blank record on the subform (if the user moved off the record before checking the error checkbox) or go to a new record (if the user did not move to a new record already before checking the error checkbox).

I have had some issues caused by users exiting the database entirely when they realise that they have entered something incorrectly; this in turn has caused problems re-opening the half finished record (the last step of the record creation is to allocate it a unique reference number, which is then used to re-open the record for editing on a point and click form) - now, this is entirely my fault for expecting users to clear up behind them or to exit properly.
So, I am making some changes - when the dashboard form opens it removes the database window close button. I have a separate close button which has the following code:
Code:
Private Sub cmdGoodbye_Click()
Do While Forms.Count > 0
DoCmd.CLOSE acForm, Forms(0).Name, acSaveNo
Loop
DoCmd.Quit
End Sub
However, I would like to add a line to automatically save any records before closing each form - is this possible?

I have a "Search" form that I am using to search through a query in a list box of all of my Customers. Once the record that I am wanting to view comes up I highlight it and click a "View" button to bring up another form with the customers full record. When this form is open I am able to update the customer information and add User's to it if necessary.
My problem comes after I click on my save and close button that takes me back to me search form. I want to close the search form and the error I get is "The record cannot be deleted or changed because table "tblUserProfile" includes related records." I click OK and get a SECOND error stating "You can't save this record at this time. MS Access may have encountered an error while trying to save a record. If you close this object now, the data changes you made will be lost. Do you want to close the database object anyway?"
I have already made my changes and saved them in the form with the customer record so am not sure why I am getting an error when trying to close the Search form.

I have a form frmAddNewProject that is a Data Entry form.When you click Add Project on the form, it creates folders and copies files to a location and also creates new record(s) in the ProjectT table with appropriate information.Here is my code:
Code:
Private Sub cmdAdd_Click()
Dim FSO As Object
Dim FromPath As String
Dim ToPath As String
Dim FolderPath As String
Dim strType As String
Dim strYear As String
Dim strGPN As String
[code]....
Everything works fine till here. Now I would like to close the form but closing it gives me an additional empty record.
Code:
Dim ctl As Control
On Error Resume Next
For Each ctl In Me.Controls
ctl = ctl.DefaultValue
Next
Set ctl = Nothing
to remove all values, but then it just adds an empty record.Is there a way to close that form without removing my legitimate new records and without adding empty ones?

I have a form that I need to use to add new clients to a table in my database, lets call it tblClients. On this form I have a combo box which, when selected, will drop down with the first and last names of all clients in tblClients, as well as their Client ID. Once you select a client from the drop down menu, it populates all of the fields in the form with that clients info (Client ID, fname, lname, address, phone number, etc. etc.).
I need two other things on this form: one button that will save or modify whatever current record is currently pulled up, and one button that will start the process for entering a new client, so basically it would blank out all of the fields and fill the Client ID field with the current number +1.
As of right now I have the form made and the combo box works, in that I have 3 dummy clients in the tblClients and when I select each client from the combo box it will populate the fields on the form with the info. I'm using some simple VBA on the combo box such as
Me.FirstName = Me.cboBox.Column(1)
and that seems to all work, but the problem is trying to save/modify data to tblClients. The only record in the actual table that gets modified seems to be the first record. For example, if I pull up client with ID #3 and change his address or phone number, what happens when I click to save the changes it takes client ID #3 record, overrides it with client ID #1, and then client ID #3 is the same as client ID #1 except with the old information. I'm not quite sure why this is happening.

I have a form that I want to open on a new record (with an Autonumber-based ID string that is a calculated field) and this uses a hidden field in the form when it opens to spawn a new record, ready to be related to some additional items in a join table. The user selects those from a list box.I want to add a "return to main menu without saving" button, but not matter what code I use, it obstinately continues to save the record.
Code:
DoCmd.Close acForm, "JobPlanfromCAFs", acSaveNo
on the command button - no effect.
I also tried this code on the form's BeforeUpdate method. No effect. The new record continues to exist.
Code:
If Not (Me.NewRecord) Then
If MsgBox("Would You Like To Save The Changes To This Record?", vbQuestion + vbYesNo + vbDefaultButton1, "Save Changes to Record ???") = vbNo Then
Me.Undo
End If
Else
If MsgBox("Would You Like To Save This New Record?", vbQuestion + vbYesNo + vbDefaultButton1, "Save This Record ???") = vbNo Then
Me.Undo
End If
End If
I suppose I can 'query out' incomplete records at other places in the database, but it's annoying to not be able to return to the same JobID again if you don't save it.

Hey,
I have a form with 55 values entered. On closing the form, I need it to decide if this is a new record. If it is a new record, it loads all 55 values into an array. If all values are above 20,000, it goes ahead and closes the form. If any are below 20,000, it writes the record to another table and brings up that form to add add a comment.
Every thing does as it should except determining if it is a new record. What property will trigger it properly? All the properties I have tried either triggers it on all the records (even if it is an old record) or it does not trigger it and closes without prompting the code.

I have a subform with records of call details (date, time, subject) - the date and time are autogenerated and subject is a text field. After entering text in the subject field and then clicking on the close button in the main form, or clicking anywhere else in the main form, the record is saved to the table. However, if I enter text in the subject field and then move up to view previous records (within the subform) and then click the close button in the main form the record is not saved in the table. How can I either save the record before allowing the user to move to another record within the subform or before exiting the subform set the focus to the new record so that it will be saved on exit?

I have a statistical program and the user constantly use the form to check calculations and get out without saving a record. In order to allow this with out writing to the table I used unbound fields and an accept and close command buttons.
This worked well until I added a subform to one of the forms. Now, if I just open that form and then click the close button, I get a blank record in the table associated to the main form. Is there a way to stop this?

Hello,
I am trying to run a macro on doubleclick in a subform (dataview) that will open the same record in a popup form (tabular).
I've enter in the macro Where Condition the following statement to only show the record I doubleclicked on in the popup. The only problem is it's asking me for a parameter value for the LogID. Its apparently not picking up the LogID I doubleclicked on. Is there any way I can fine-tune this WHere statement so that it knows the record LogID I clicked on. (The pop up form should show only the same record).
[LogID]=[Forms]![CommunicationLog Subform]![LogID]

I'm not sure how to search on this, even in the advanced search. If this has been answered, could you point me in the right direction?
I have a main form AddNewCompany (the infamous tab control that now works - thanks to your combined efforts). On it I have a command button that pops up a form of continuous forms with all the companies in the table (the query calls the CompanyID and CompanyName fields only). I have attached an image of the interface.
This means the user can see if the company already exists and doesn't enter it again. (I'm sure there are more effecient ways of doing this, but this is simple and it works. I also know key fields should be autonumbers instead of text, but I have reasons for doing it this way).
What I would like to be able to do is click on the CompanyID field and have the companies information show up in the main form.

Can anyone see what I am doing wrong?
I have a main form that has a tab control on it. The main form is called frm_AddNewCompanyContacts. It is opened in edit mode. To see if a company exists I use a command button to call a popup form with a list of all companies' IDs and names. I then want the user to be able to click on a commad button on the popup form to take the main form to that record. After an intial post, and subsequent search, I found the appropriate code. This is what I am using for the onclick event of the command button on the popup form:
Private Sub cmdGoToCompany_Click()
Dim rst As Recordset
Set rst = Forms![frm_AddNewCompanyContacts].RecordsetClone
rst.FindFirst "[CompanyID]='" & Me![CompanyID] & "'"
If rst.NoMatch = False Then
Forms![frm_AddNewCompanyContacts].Bookmark = rst.Bookmark
End If
End Sub
When I click on the command button I get an error message:
"The expression On Click you entered as the even property setting produced the following error: A problem occurred while Microsoft Office Access was communication with OLE server or ActiveX Control (I don't have an ActiveX Control).
*The expression may not result in the name of a macro, the name of a user-defined function, or [Even Procedure].
*There may have ben an error evaluating the function, event or macro."

I have a field on a form [vin] that is based on a table, except i changed control source to a Dlookup to pull the vin number in from another table so i wont have to type it when i enter the record. However, this field is not saving when i save the record. I cannot just make a relationship because we reuse the same vehicle numbers, when we sell van 1 with vin 123, and replace it with a new van with Vin 456, we still call it van 1, so the unique vin is the only way to distinguish the two.

I have a form for meeting records. One text box contains meeting notes, which is linked to ntext variable (SQL linked table) on the underlying table. The database has about 40 users but this particular form get no more than 10 new records per day, not so much activity.
This is the problem: sometimes a user start filling a new record, fill the meeting notes, but when he saves the record the text box gets blank and the record is saved with null value in the text box. This happens randomly but not very frequently.
Sometimes frustrating because the text may contain a full page of text and then when the user save the record all the typing is lost! Text box is with RTF formatting. I suspect it has to do with the Ntext data type of the underlying table. Shall I convert it to varchar(max)?

Hello,
I have a form and I have a button so people can open records to load into the form. The problem is that whenever they close the form it updates the information in the table. How do I stop that from happening?
I want the information in the table to update only when they hit the button I made (which works).
And how do I stop it from loading the record when I open the form, or maybe I can specify to load a blank record instead, how do I do that?
Thanks in advance!

I have a transaction form and there is at least two fields I need to make sure have been entered before the record is saved.
I have no problem with text or numeric fields but I can't seem to be able to check the contents of a drop down field.
What is the best method to use to make sure a drop down has been selected by the user and contains a value.
I have temporarily used a default value in the drop down but that's not really what I want.

I have created a form with buttons which runs queries. The parameters I need for the query are being passed through just as I wish and the relevant query is run correctly. However, if I then press the button on the form with different parameters I get the results from the previous query. I can only solve this by closing the query before pressing the button. Is there an easy way to close the query to prevent this from happening. In case this is relevant, the only data which I am returning from the query is stored in the windows clipboard.

I have a form with a subform. There is a close button on the main form which I have applied a key command of Alt + c and when the focus is on the main form it closes the form as you expect. But if the focus is on the subform, using Alt+c does nothing. I am trying to give the user a way to avoid using the mouse (so they do not have to click on the button from the subform. Also it is confusing that the key command doesn't always work in the view of the user, and in reality he is on the subform.)
So my thinking is:
1. Can I create a close button on the subform (and give it the key command of Alt + c) and in the code close the form and subform, if so - how to I refer to the form/subform?
2. Is there some way to apply the key command of Alt + c on the subform to activate the close button on the main form?

I tried all sorts of permutations of the requery command but apparently I'm too dense to figure it out.
Form 1
subform 1 > button to open pop up form
subform 2
subform 3
I'm trying to requery a combo box (inside of subform 1) based on a table that is updated from the pop up form.
On pop up form close, what's the correct syntax for re-querying subform 1?

I am using Access 2010 - Version 14.0.61.29.5000 (32-bit)
I am building a custom Export Wizard to export data to Excel using the Report Wizard for the basic ideas.
All I am trying to do is have a [Back] button on a form to open another form and close the current form.
Private Sub cmdBack_Click()
DoCmd.OpenForm "frm_ExportWizardPage2", , , , , , Nz(Me.OpenArgs)
DoCmd.Close acForm, "frm_ExportWizardPage3"
End Sub
The new form is opening but then the current form is not closing. All forms are the same size, shape and positioned centrally although this should not make any difference.
Could this be anything to do with which form has the focus when I open the new form?
