I'm currently trying to build in access a replica of an atrocious search function in excel.
I have a list of data quite simply in 5 columns and i want to filter through this data about (10000 rows).
My form has 5 data points.
The first is Product Name this is a string (i've looked up a lot of codes to search strings and even partial strings but no one seems to have done what i need).
- Basically i need it to search for any / multiple parts of the string entered.
- for example if someone enters apple trees june i need it to look for cells containing those three words in any order, even conjoined for example "appletreejune" would still return or "apples on a tree in june".
- This is attached to a single col called Product Name.
Based on this search i need it to look for data in a col called mark type (which is selected by a drop down)
Then by Market Context (also a drop down)
Then by a start and an end date, however, only one of the values (start or end) needs to be between the start and the end dates listed in the start and end date columns in the table.
I can't seem to get past this expression/criteria problem.
[Actual] is my field I want to grab data from [L3-4-5] is my main table [CDATE] is a form control where the user enters a date [Quarter] is a number field and want it to equal 1 [Partname] is a text field and string it to equal 1

I have a problem printing a Subform that uses multiple criteria(in textboxes) as filters.
The search portion of the form works fine. The problem is I have created a report based on the subform and am using the following code to open/filter the report

Wonder if you guys can help me with something. I have a table with about 1200 guests, what I want to do is to search the table base on different criteria (or combination of criteria), namely phone #, name, street name, and postal code. Not everyone has all this info, and their names aren't separted into proper lastname or firstnames (old data).
What I want to do is to be able to type in a person's first name, last name, or both (an maybe other info if the first search wasn't successful).

What should I do to implement this? I was thinking of running 4 different queries, and interesect them into the final query. What do you think?
I have a form on which I have about 6 combo-boxes and a set of 3 radio buttons.
I'm to the point that all the querys that fill these combo-boxes are in place.
What I want now is a search button that updates a datagrid under it when clicked. The query in this datagrid needs to be parameterised with the selected values in the comboboxes or radio buttons. It should be possible to only select one combobox before pressing update.
At this point I placed a subform in the form to bind this query to. ( the datagrid I need). Is a subform the correct object for this or are there other possibilities?
For some boxes only a line to the where clausule of the SQL statement needs to be added. For some other (one) and the radio buttons a join needs to be made with another table. So I will have to build my sql statement dynamicaly in some vba code, run it when the search button is clicked and refresh the datagrid.
Does ab has a sample database in which such a search form is being used?
I must have downloaded like 10 sample DB's now but nothing I can use...
I am creating a a text box where the user enters a text then clicks an option from the option that is used as the criteria for the search e.g. Last Name, Phone , address then a command button wil run a query.
Hi all I have a query linked to a report that prints a worksheet specific to a individual work item. This report/query picks up the Work_ID value on a form. I have 2 other forms displaying the same work with different amounts of detail. Rather than create a new report/query to run from each form, I am trying to use the one query/report from each form. The problem is that I cannot get Access to recognise the Work_ID value from the other forms. I have tried the following:
In the Work_ID criteria field building an SQL statement as below [Forms]![frmVCRUpdate]![Work_ID] Or [Forms]![frmVCRShort]![Work_ID] Or [Forms]![frmVCRLong]![Work_ID] - This does not work, it keeps asking for the frmVCRUpdate Work_ID value when I try to run the query from the other forms Adding 2 extra Work_ID Values to the query and on the 2nd and 3rd criteria lines specifying that it look for the Work_ID value from the other forms but I get the error above.
Any suggestions on how I can make this work would be appreciated, I'm not sure what else to do. Craig
Hi there i am building a search form and I want it to be able to display results from multiple criteria......Currently I am able to display results in a listbox, whenever the user types in a id number in a text box. So if a user types 63 in the ID text box the record with and ID of 63 will appear in the list box or it will wont if the record does not exist..... What i want to do is be able to search on multiple criteria. Sof if a user wants to search based on a name instead of a id number they woudl be able to. What I am struggling to grasp is how to invoke a OR in the criteria box. So that the list box will display results based on either the ID text box OR the name text box.
Staff are monitored to make sure they are keeping up to date with our customers. A customer can have multiple projects going through the factory at any one time. Each customer has a record per project and a 'general' record. Ideally we would like our staff to be able to move the 'general' record when they update a project record as opposed to either having to find and then update the general record after, or forgetting and calling the customer again 2 days later!
Including a msgbox for the EnqNum seems to show the general record correctly, however being new to access I am unsure if I have the update part correct.

I have a combobox on a form that lets the user select a business name which then populates the rest of the fields in the form appropriately. But when it does this it makes it so that the seach function at the bottom of the screen no longer works, as it only has the selected record as an option. So before selecting a name from the drop down list at the bottom of the screen is says "Record: 1 of 5" but after selecting the name it become "Record: 1 of 1." Is there anyway to still allow the built-in search function to work alongside using a combobox?
I recently created a database to be used to store incoming invoices. We have 4 suppliers which supply the same material and wanted each supplier to have its own database.
I began by making a database which included all the key tables, forms, queries and functions I would need to then save 4 copies, one for each supplier. This just meant I would not have to repeat the process for each individual supplier.
The problem is all my data is external and upon importing it into the database it has made the search function (combo box) not return results.
I believe this is because: 1) The form was created before the records existed 2) The records were imported from an external source and not created using the form.
However, the way I have designed the form is so I can see all relevant information linked with a specific invoice. This aids in gathering information quickly about an invoice but also so I can input credit note and invoice query information linked to a specific invoice on the same page.
Is there anyway to remedy this?
Or use a similar search function that returns records in my form "Main View"
The last thing I want to do is have to create the form again, although I don't think this will work either as reason 2) states.
I am having some minor issues with my current database. The way it works currently is having a MainMenu where you can either go to customers/ ProductList/ Product OR ProductList straight away. I have a CustomerT and a ProductT. I have made a Query where I link the two tabels to have the feature showing the customer to the specific product with the criteria: "Kunde: [CustomerName] & " " & [Subsidiary]" on the form I have a txtsearch (Textbox) connected to a button with this coding:
This allows me to search for text in each of the boxes with information on the single product(s) for example searching for Kunde (Customer in Danish) or ProduktNavn (Name of product) HOWEVER when I do this the "Kunde" turns into "#Navn?" c..If i reopen the Form it will show with the right information. I am working with MS Access 2003. I have a form (frmCalendar) with a textbox (tbDay) and a combobox (cmbLineName)
I want to count the number of records based on the criteria from cmbLineName, and show the result in tbDate. Inside the Control Source of tbDate I put in the following:
The problem is that the result in tbDate is always 0; regardless of what is chosen in cmbLineName. I know that the record count should not be 0 for all criteria.

Hedging program is the column from the table I am trying to filter, it is a yes/no column. I want it to return all yes values in my query if it says search by hedging program and if it says Don't search by hedging program I want it to disregard the filter. I also have it set so that when I click the button it changes the caption from one to the other. So I don't know if I really need the cmd.setfilter lines because they may do the same as my command button on click function.

i need to create a form in access 97 that enables me to search for a keyword on a given search area, for example the cd/dvd rom drive for files and folders
I have a search form that uses several comboboxes, textboxes and checkboxes that are used as criteria in a query. You enter in the relevant information, hit search and a report opens based on the filtered query.
What I would like to do is change one of these combo boxes to a listbox and use the multiple selection as the query criteria. I know it's not as simple as just putting the listbox as a criteria in the query, and I've also tried many different variations on the varItem and strWhere code.
On the access form I have designed , I need to give optional search option to the users. I have the following search options on the form (screenshot attached):

However, the form still prompts me to enter values for all the boxes and still doesnt show the correct data.
So I'm working on something for housing. Each house has a "Property Reference". This property reference links to all other information on the property.
There's two tables, Referral (For a tenant, with the Property Reference as a foreign key) and PropertyInfo (Holding all the property information)
Basically I want to save users as much input time as possible, so I'd prefer if they could just enter the property reference for a person, and that populates the rest of the table.
I'm currently using DLookup on the main form where it displays the information related to the property reference, obviously it's not actually being saved into any fields.
Will this method be okay if I would want to search the records by the address on the main form?
I currently have a database which contains various information for part returns. Among this information is contained a parts tracking number, VIN Number, and Date Code. I want to have a small dialogue box (Form) where a user can enter a tracking number, (or a date code or VIN if tracking number unavailable) to search for a record containing that tracking number. I have already created a replica of my new part entry form to view parts in read only mode only.how to create small form to search for record based off criteria then open the replica form i have made to that record?
I have a sub form that shows me a companies history. This subform is used on 2 different Parent forms. The record source for the sub form uses a criteria that looks at a companyID field on the parent to determine which records to return. My question is how do I have the query criteria depend on which form is currently opened? The criteria would look something like this:
[Forms]![frmCompanyHistory]![txtCompanyID] OR [Forms]![frmCompany_Project_Details]![txtCompanyID]
If I open the form with this criteria, I will be asked for a value in txtcompanyID for whatever parent form is not open. How do I properly do this without making multiple queries that are almost identical?
I'm sure this one has been asked time and time again!
I currently have a set of staff questionairres each on a different table. Currently when I want to export all the scores for one employee to excel (eventually) I have a macro which runs 7 queries, but each asks for the same criteria (Date To & From) and (Staff Name) in turn - very time consuming!
How do I create a query or macro which will ask once for a date range and an employee name and apply to all of my queries?

Im trying to make a find page that looks up 7 fields and after reading about the Dynamically search multiple fields i downloaded the sample and changed a few things. But I have a few problems .
1) If you open the FRM_SearchAll from the navigation pane , it will not show the detail form by dbl_click or view button also will not show the picture .
2) If you open it the navigation form , it has the following error Forms!FRM_SearchMulti!SrchText before you start it.
3) As above it will not show the detail form by dbl_click (it has Error) Run time error : 3075 Syntax error (missing operator) in query expression '[Food]Snack a Jacks'.
4) If you try to view detail form with the button (the error comes up) Syntax error (missing operator) in query expression '[Food]Snack a Jacks'

It was, essentially, a type-and-show-as-you-go search functionality for an Access Form. It works great, except that I'm experiencing intermittent slowness when using the form. As I type, the characters appear very slowly and experience a significant lag time.
I only have about 70 records so far, so I'm pretty sure the slowness is not being caused by an overabundance of data. At other times, it goes super fast without any lag.
I am fairly new to Access and am having some trouble creating a search form. I have numerous tables, which contain information regarding clients and contracts, that are all connected by relationships. I would like to create a form in which I can type in the name of the client and pull up all the information regarding it from the various tables (i.e. when it was signed, the amount, and etc).
