I suspect I have made a beginners mistake in my very first Access database, but before I start this again from scratch, I would like to know if it is really a mistake, or if I might easily fix it somehow.
I have a form with several combo boxes.
All the source fields for those comboboxes are in one table. But of course every field has a different number of cells containing content. Now when I open a combobox in a form, the sequence of the cells are a mess, and there are lots of empty lines for many of them. (probably also because I reordered some fields in the source table)
I now have no clue if I can crop the combobox dropdown output somehow so that each combox only shows cells with content. (and preferably in a defined order)
Should I have started with creating one different table for every combobox, and not trying to put all the source fields in one table?
I am trying to use a combobox called Manufacturer to select which table the combobox called Model gets it's rowsource from using the code below.
Code:
Private Sub Manufacturer_AfterUpdate() If (Me.Manufacturer.Value = "Siemens") Then Me.Model.RowSourceType = "Table/Query" Me.Model.Recordset = "SeimensTable" Me.Model.RowSource = "SELECT Model FROM SeimensTable" Else If (Me.Manufacturer.Value = "Samsung") Then Me.Model.RowSourceType = "Table/Query" Me.Model.Recordset = "SamsungTable" Me.Model.RowSource = "SELECT Model FROM SamsungTable" End If End If End Sub
But when I run the form and select Manufacturer. Combobox Model remains empty. tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Whenever I create a combobox, Access asks me if I want to grab the values from another table, or if I just want to manually input the possible values.
My question is: is one of the two solutions "better" than the other?
Let's imagine I am creating a Form where I can create a new Contact, and in a listbox (with multiple selections allowed) I want to list the possible character traits, so I have
I think that if I need to store in the Contact records these possible traits, I will have to create a Many-to-Many relationship (therefor creating a junction table) between Contact and Traits.
On the other hand, could I do everything without grabbing values from an extra table and directly inputting the values in the listbox? How would these elements be stored in the Contact record if I allow multiple values in one single field?
I have a form (named Example) to create reports by selecting fields from tables or queries. there is a option box (name is KynkSec) with two options (Table, Query) and a combobox named as KynkTurSec.I want to change the data source of combobox either table or query. By afterupdate, that combobox is requering the listbox "ListKynkAlan" and I can see fields of selected table or query. (That is my dream))Unfortunately I can not do that. Combobox is showing only tables or both of tables and queries. But not only query.
Here is str source of my combobox:
SELECT MsysObjects.Name, MsysObjects.Type FROM MsysObjects WHERE (((MsysObjects.Type)=1) AND ((Left$([Name],1))<>"~") AND ((Left$([Name],4))<>"Msys")) OR (((MsysObjects.Type)=5) AND ((Left$([Name],1))<>"~") AND ((Left$([Name],4))<>"Msys")) ORDER BY MsysObjects.Name; That is showing both of tables and queries.
And I wrote a code for KynkSec option box;
Private Sub KynkSec_AfterUpdate() ' Populate rowsource of KynkTurSec Dim strSQL As String On Error GoTo HandleErr Select Case KynkTurSec
Case 1
strSQL = "SELECT MsysObjects.Name FROM MsysObjects" _ & WHERE(((Left$([Name], 1)) <> "~") And ((MsysObjects.Type) = 1) And ((Left$([Name], 4)) <> "Msys")) Order BY(MsysObjects.Name)
Case 2
strSQL = "SELECT MsysObjects.Name FROM MsysObjects" _ & WHERE(((Left$([Name], 1)) <> "~") And ((MsysObjects.Type) = 5) And ((Left$([Name], 4)) <> "Msys")) Order BY(MsysObjects.Name) Case Else End Select
[code]...
But this code is not working and giving a warning messsage "Sub or function is not defined"..So How can I change the source of combobox, either table or Query?
I have a combobox with a value list as the control source. I have a user who clicks the drop-down, but there are no options. Every other user is able to view these options, and this user has no problem with any other combobox with a value list.
In my form (source tblJobs) i input a contract number from tblContracts. but i would also like it to show the contract address when the contract number is entered. Both fields belong to tblContracts but i only wish to enter the contract number, the address will just be used as a reference as it isnt something i would have to enter again.
So for example
112 - Main Road
If i enter 122 in my ContractNo field i would like it to show the contract address for that specific contract.
Any way to transfer the data in an unbound textbox into a separate table.
User enters an amount into a textbox2, and then it does some calculations that involves textbox1 and textbox2. Finally, textbox3 has the final answer. Can textbox3 overwrite textbox1's data on the table and on the form?
Also, is there an "auto date" feature in tables? If new data is put into tables, Today's date appears on the date column?
I have created a table for installer invoicing, and have a field for invoice amount. I have created a user input form that allows a user to fill in certain pay rates for different aspects of installation, and would like to know how to make the invoice amount a calculated control that will auto update the field InvoiceAmt in my table. I can't figure out how to do this in the property sheet.
Hi, I need help on cascading combo boxes, in my form
In my example DB i have 3 tables(when i find a soloution i will implement it on a larger scale database which will have around 15 tables). I need to create reports of these tables. The problem was that i need to filter the data before i create the report by 2 fields. If i was to do this the straight forward way i would have 3 tbls, 3 qrys and 3 reports (which on my final database would mean 15 of everything.)
So i've decided to use a form driven system to reduce the number of forms and querys i have in the DB. Using a form based system i should have 3 Tables (called 1, 2 and 3), 1 Query (called query2), 1 Form (called withselect) and 1 report (called rptquery1).
Now to the system.
The form should have 3 combo boxes. 1 at the top to select the table i want to query. Then 2 others to select the fields by which to filter. the form should also have 2 buttons, 1 torun the report one to return reults in a table to edit the data if needed.
This is the current problem i am having
In the forms 1st combo box i have managed to list all my 3 tables (thanks to FancyPrairie) using the following code:
SELECT MSysObjects.Name, MSysObjects.Type FROM MSysObjects WHERE (Left$([Name],4)<>"MSys") AND (Left$([Name],4)<>"USys") and (Left$([Name],1)<>"~") and (MSysObjects.Type=1) ORDER BY MSysObjects.Name;
But i cant select any thing in the following 2 comboboxes. At the moment im tryin to use this code in the record source of the 2nd and 3rd combo boxes
SELECT * FROM YourTable WHERE (YourTable.TableName=[Forms]![withselect]![Combo6]);
Attached is the latest version of the DB.
Im getting the error:
The record source 'SELECT * FROM YourTable WHERE (YourTable.TableName=[Forms]![withselect]![Combo6]);' specified on this form or report does not exist.
I have a form that uses a certain table(tblDetails) as the control source and within this form I have 3 combo boxes. One combo box looks up a company name from another table and I was wanting my second combo box [LastName] to have its look up list based off of the first combo box choice.
I have a Form with a combobox and 3 checkboxes now i want to change the Rowsource of the Combobox by clicking on the checkboxes. When i click the Checkbox the Rowsource gets Changed as i want it but i can not use the new Values cause its giving me the error "The value you entered is not valid for this field"
The Funny thing is its always bound to the type of data i choose first. When i first select the Week i can select only Weeks (17,18,19 etc) When i choose Day first it only accepts Dates (01.01.2014 etc)There is no Control Source set . And the Bound Column for all Sources is 1
Here the Code
DD_Zeitraum is the Combobox CB_Day CB_Week CB_Month are the Checkboxes
Code: Private Sub CB_Day_Click() If Me.CB_Day.Value = -1 Then Me.CB_Month = 0 Me.CB_Week = 0 Me.DD_Zeitraum = "" Me.DD_Zeitraum.RowSource = "" Me.DD_Zeitraum.RowSource = Dist_Datum Else Me.CB_Day.Value = -1 End If End Sub
I have a form with a combobox and a treeview. When I select an item in the combobox, the treeview is updated with info related to the combobox value. When I browse through the nodes in the treeview, I want to see which other values will give that very same node. I could use the concatenation function* I found at Allen Browne's site, which will return a number of values in a single string.
What I'm looking for, is basically some sort of tag cloud. If the user selects node X, the tag cloud needs to show which values in the combobox will all lead to node X. The combobox values that lead to node Y shouldn't be visible at all in the tag cloud, or maybe just shown in a different color. The user should be able to click on the value, which will trigger the combobox_click event.
how many values there will be in the table behind the combobox. That's what's making this problem difficult to solve. Putting the form in design view, adding a textbox and returning to form view is not an option. How do I create a dynamic tag cloud? Is it possible to transpose a table column on a form?
I've got an access front-end database running on Access Runtime on a Terminal Server with a back-end on a data server both of which are hosted by a remote company and accessed via Terminal Services. All is well and the database is working fine but because this is a cloud system I need a way that I can easily delve into the tables on the back-end without copying it down locally from the cloud each time (I've set up an "administrator" option so that this would be available to limited users). I've got the front-end forms working as I'd like but I have quite a few tables and I'd like to avoid creating a separate form for every table. I've been able to populate a combobox on my form with the list of linked tables and I'd like that when I choose a particular table from this list that the whole table is then visible within a subform below in case I need to manually intervene with the data for any reason.
I have a form with two cascading comboboxes where the first selection is the alphabet and the second selection is a person's name. (the alphabet is a coding system but not assigned based on a person's name) I used one table based on example 2 of this website: fontstuff. com/access/acctut10.htm
What I want to do is add columns to the table such as organization, purpose, etc. then have them in the form as textboxes that update as soon as the second combo box is selected. Is this possible with just one table or do I need to go a different route?
I created a navigation form on which I put a form call [frmAnimal Setup].
I then placed one combo box on the Navigation frm Header. I have bound it to its source and it actually queries the tbl and show the right info. However when I select one, it will not let me.
In addition, [frmanimal setup] will not allow me to select a breed although it does query the tbl and shows the right information.
- Staff Position(Unique Position Name, Description, Hierarchy) - Training (ID, Name, Description etc.)
I essentially want a table with Staff Position as the Field, and Training as the Rows. The intersecting entries/matrix will be Yes/No to say whether that staff positions requires that training.
Simple Example
..................... Worker ........ Senior ........ Principal IT Training ......YES ............. YES .............. YES Accounts ......... NO ............. YES .............. YES Management ... NO ............. NO ............... YES
I need the user to be able to add as many training entries and as many staff positions as they want. It doesn't HAVE to be that sort of format...
I am designing a database to enter daily/monthly performance numbers for employees and department totals. However, I don't want to have to enter the month and/or day for every category for each employee entered. In looking through these forums, nobody recommends a separate date table. But it seems time-consuming to have to enter the reporting month for every sales category for every employee. To wit:
While trying to "normalize" a developing database, a question has come up. I have two sets of information that will probably never change. Hair color and Eye color. Should these be put into a separate table or can I include those two fields in the table containing information about the person and then use the lookup wizard function in the table design and "type in the values I want"? I am using '97. Thanks.
I've been doing a lot of research and reading on databases and normalization and things of that sort because I need to create database from scratch. I've been maintaining a db that someone else made, but it turns out I will have to recreat the whole thing because it's not useful anymore and the users need a more user friendly db. I have a couple of days some are:
The ones I have the arrows for will be a combo box on my form. My question is should I make each of these field a table of its own? For instance make the Product field a table and list all the 13 products there? Or keep the Product field in the tblTOItems and in design view of tblTOItems use the Lookup Wizard and type in my values there to make a lookup column.
I have seen it done both ways, and I was just wondering which way is more efficient.
I created a report where is lists sales volume by day. I was asked to create a table where data can be excluded from this report. The exclusion table consists of only three fields:
Date Department and a check box
What do I need to do in the query to have it exclude the data listed in this exclusion table. The table only holds data we want excluded, not all dates and departments.
I originally added the table to the source query and made the criteria "False" for the check box but when the query runs it does return any data at all.

[General Info] has 2 fields. Name(is a primary Key as well) & Organisation
[Details] has 4 fields. Primary Key, Name, No of products & Type
[Details] is a sub form for [General Info]
It is a one to many relationship. With Name from [General Info] linking to Name from [Details].
I can update via the table directly and [Details] links the name fields automatically. I created a form but the form just cannot register the field automatically and requires the user to type in the Name from [General Info].
I have attached the DB file. Pls help... your help is greatly appreciated!
I have a form with contact info, which also has a subform with other data on it. The subform is a continuous mode form. If I go to the "New" line (last line) of the continuous form, I can add information, and the records are linked via the customerID field on both the form and subform.
I want to have a button on that subform that says "New" that opens up a different form in a popup. I can do that part just fine, but when I try to enter data onto the popup form, the customerID field does not populate with the ID number of the person on the main form. It defaults to a value of "0".
So, is there a way to link the 2 forms like you can with forms and subforms? Or is there a way to have the customerID field in the popup form just populate based on the other form?
Not sure if this makes sense, but please help if you can. Thanks.
I have a quick question that could lead into a longer one.
First off, I am trying to associate tests with a course a student is enrolled in. Would it be better to add a column in the courses table and have a comma separated list of all tests associated with each course or would it be better to create a separate table that has a column for the course and another column for the associated test with that course?
If comma separated fields would be better, how would I handle that in forms? How does one parse that field?
