Forms :: Setting Up A Combo Box To Filter Another Combo Box

Jan 27, 2015

I'm having a little difficulty setting up a combo box to filter another combo box. I've actually got one working but the second one is giving me all sorts of errors. On the attached database, there's a form called frmAddNewRecord. At the top of the form there's a combo box which allows you to select a name and another combo box beside it which acts as a filter so only names from a certain section are shown (working fine).

The subform which is attached to this form and contains the training details, has another combo box which allows you to select a job...I've tried to add a combo box beside this to filter it but I can't get it to work.

Forms :: Setting Text Box Value According To Chosen Combo Box Value

Feb 7, 2015

I have a form that adds a record to a table in the database.I want that when i choose a value from a combobox in the form, it will change the value of another textbox according to what value was choosed. So essentially what i did is simply go to the combobox AfterUpdate and there i used this code:

If Me.Combobox.Text = "Solid" Then
Me.TextBox1.Text = "grams"
ElseIf Me.Combobox.Text = "Liquid" Then
Me.TextBox1.Text = "ml"
End If

But i encounter 2 problems:

1. When i set a default value to the textbox (which i want to), the changing of the value in the combobox doesn't do anything whatsoever.
2. When i remove any default value from the textbox, the changing of the value in the combobox does change the textbox to the corresponding value but then gives run-time error 2185: "You can't reference a property or method for a control unless the control has the focus".

Forms :: Setting Control Source To Combo Box

Jun 12, 2014

I have a combo box control in my form named PayDateID, but I told that control to DISPLAY the associated field PayDate.

I now am trying to make a separate control in the same form whose control source is the DISPLAYED PayDate, but it only wants to reference the underlying PayDateID.

How can I make the control source be the displayed value in that combo box?

Forms :: Setting A Value For A Field

Jun 25, 2013

I have two tables relating to People

PeopleType: ID and description (e.g. 1 student, 2 teacher, etc)
PeopleDetails: PeopleType.id, name, gender etc

I have a form that contains subforms

On the Main section of the form the data comes from the PeopleDetails. I want the user to fill in this but I want the PeopleType.id to be set to e.g. 2 so that you can only key in teacher details.

I have been trying to set it using a macro SetValue but i cannot get it to work.

Forms :: Form Field - Setting Bound Column

Sep 2, 2013

I'm using Access 2007. I've created a table with two fields. "Novice and Recertification" as in combo box.

I put it on the form. Now the idea is when a user clicks Recertification, it shows up on the report. When the user clicks on Novice, it should be empty on report (Reason why I want to keep novice is so that we have a record of it.)

Now the challenge is I added another column, empty field for Novice and Recertification for Recertification. Thing is if I set the bound column, I select on an empty field on form and it will be empty on report. But I want the user to see Novice on the form and it must not show on the report.

Forms :: Setting Temporary Default Value For Date / Time Field

Jul 3, 2013

My setup:

frmUsedOilContract (contains a header and a subform)
subfrmUsedOilContract (contains a few controls) [datasheet view]

- Removed Date
- Voucher Number
- Building Number

I implemented some code so that a temporary default value could be set for the date and the Voucher Number. I also have the default value for 'txtRemovalDate' set at 'Date()'.

PHP Code:

Private Sub txtVoucherNumber_AfterUpdate()  'Set current value to default value.
txtVoucherNumber.DefaultValue = txtVoucherNumber.ValueEnd Sub

PHP Code:

Private Sub txtRemovalDate_AfterUpdate()  'Set current value to default value.
txtRemovalDate.DefaultValue = txtRemovalDate.ValueEnd Sub

Also have code so the default value is null when the form is opened.

PHP Code:

Private Sub Form_Open(Cancel As Integer)  'Set Default Value properties to nothing.
txtVoucherNumber.DefaultValue = vbNullString  txtRemovalDate.DefaultValue = vbNullStringEnd Sub

This all works great until I try to change the date. If I use the default date (today's date), the new record will stay with today's date. If I change it to a different date, the new record displays a time instead.

Setting A Combo Box Value From Another Form

Feb 18, 2005

I have a form with a query based bound combo. The same combo can be found on another form which can be launched from the original form. I want to update the combo on the original form with the same value as the combo on the launched form (after update).

In my after update event I have the following code;

[Foms]![form1]![Combo1] = Combo 2

This doesn't seem to work (I don't get an error but Combo1 doesn't update).

Any ideas?

Setting A Combo To The Record Selected In A Form

Feb 8, 2005

Hello,

I suspect this is probably rather easy, but I've not been able to figure it out:

I am using a combo to select a record in a form. This works.

The problem is: When I navigate through the records in the form, the combo box does not "update". I need to be able to change the record displayed in the combo box as the record in the form changes.

Any ideas?

Many thanks in advance for assistance.

Popup Box - Setting Up A Combo Box To Update A Variable

Oct 7, 2005

hello,
newbie needs help!!!
I have a globally defined variable (gsUser) which I defined in a module.
The idea is that when one of my users creates a record then , I will update a column called "Created by" with the current users value.

The issue is how to get the current user name.

In my main form , in the "beforeinsert" and "beforeupdate" events I have triggered a call to a function in my module (function WhoAreYou)

This function checks the value is gsUser and if blank it then does a DoCmd.OpenForms to my popup form.

The popup form needs to contain a combo box whoses recordsource is pointing at a table of users I have created BUT whose source control is not pointing to a table of any kind.

How can i set up this combo box so that a user can be selected, but the selected user then populates a variable instead of a data column??

I would then user the variable to populate gsUser.

if you could give me an example I would be gratefull

Alternatively if you can think of another way of making the user pick his name from a list of usesr before updating data I would be glad to here it

Thanks in advance for your help

Tables :: Numeric Field In A Table - Setting Field Property?

I have a numeric field (long integer) in a table. I've set the format to fixed. No matter what I set the decimal places to, auto, 0 or 2, when I enter a value of 0.71, it displays as 1.00

In my form, I've also set the field property to fixed, but it displays the value as 1.

Setting Default Values In Combo Box To Match The Value Of Previous Record

Dec 21, 2005

G'day. I've been browsing the forum trying to find a solution to a problem, without much luck, and am hoping that someone might be kind enough to help me more directly.

I'm a biologist and a newbie to access: with the distinction of being completely clueless about VBA. Nonetheless, I have been tasked with creating a database for storing data obtained from biological surveys of juvenile salmon and harvest/spawner surveys of adult salmon.

The bones of the db are in place and functional. The problem I have is streamlining the data entry process to minimise keystrokes/mouse clicks.

I have a subform for entering fish records with attributes such as 'species_name', 'fork_length', 'count', 'presence of tags, etc. The idea is that fish can be entered as individuals (count=1) or groups (count>1) with attribute data at the appropriate level (eg, fork lengths only entered for individuals. We typically measure the fork lengths of the first 20 individuals of each species and then tally the remainder).

One problem I face is that fish often occur in schools, and it becomes quite tiresome to click and select the same species_name combo box value for each record when entering multiple individuals of fish of the same species.

What I would like to do is set the default value for that combo box (on the fish subform) to match the value entered for the previous record.

I suspect that you could use the after update trigger to execute some code to change the default value each time something is entered manually into the combo box. Unfortunately, I know nothing about how to write the appropriate code.

Can anyone offer me some guidance?

Thanks in anticipation.
Sincerely,
Craig Dolphin

Queries :: Setting Criteria For Query Based On 3 Combo Boxes

Jul 10, 2013

Ok so im working in MS Access 2007.

I want to create a query based on 3 combo boxes but have it so that if the field in the second or third combo box is not populated the query still runs.

Right now i have the Criteria set for the three columns that i wish to sort by as seen below.

Column 1
Criteria: [Forms]![Entity Selection Form]![areabox2]

Column 2
Criteria: [Forms]![Entity Selection Form]![devbox2]

Column 3
Criteria: [Forms]![Entity Selection Form]![entitybox2]

This gives me the correct query result but im forced to make a selection from each combo box. Is there a way to progamme it so that if I only make a selection from the first combobox and leave the others blank i can still get results in a query?

Forms :: TWO Combo Boxes For Same Field?

Mar 12, 2015

I've been asked to take a look at a database to look for areas which could be improved. It's not a database I've built myself so I've started by taking a 'walk-through' of the system to see how it works.

What I did notice amongst other things which confused me a little was that, on a specific form, called 'Tenders Sub Form' (tenders stands for builders), there are two combo boxes, each of which is used to enter the same kind of data back to the 'Tenders' table.

I've uploaded a screenshot for you to see. As we work down the 'Tenders Sub Form', we're asked to enter the 'CustomerID', which is simply the ID for the Customer and you'll see from the Relationships I've also uploaded, that this is the Primary Key in the 'CustomersMain' table. This is also an AutoNumber data type. Further down just under 'QuoteID', there is another combo box, which asks for the 'CustomerName'. This is using all the same data as the first combo box, only the first combo box is bound to column 1, the CustomerID and the second combo box is bound to column 2, the Customer Name.

If we then look in the 'Tenders' table - we can see that it's storing the Customer ID and CustomerName is there own fields.

My question really is, would there be a more efficient way to store both the CustomerID and CustomerName in the Tenders table, without the need to use two combo boxes and effectively enter the same data twice.

I'm sure that this was set up with the purpose of being able to see the Customer Name in the table rather than just the Customer ID.

I've uploaded

Forms :: Combo Box To Be Selected If Another Field Equals 0

Mar 11, 2014

I have a form (PostProductionForm) which is used to input data about finished goods which come off a production line. There are three possible outcomes which can occur after the production: Passed, Reprocessed, Failed and the numbers for these are entered in 3 text boxes on the form (QtyReprocessedTxt, QtyFailedTxt, QtyPassedTxt).

These text boxes are auto populated with a 0 from the table (PostProductionTbl) so there aren't blanks.

What I am trying to do is use an IF function (I think) which says that if Quantity Reprocessed is equal to zero when the submit button is pressed, the "Reason for reprocessing" combo (RPReasonCombo) must have something selected (i.e. can't be blank) or it won't go to a new record.

Forms :: Using AfterUpdate On A Combo Box To Reset Another Field Value

Aug 20, 2014

I have a combo box, 'Type' that has two values - "Instrument" and "Equipment".Another combo box control, 'Criticality', has an Enabled = False value set OnCurrent.

When the user selects "Equipment", Criticality goes Enabled = True and when OnUpdate to "Instrument", Criticality goes Enabled = False. The Criticality field correctly displays and switches off if someone selects Instrument.

However, if someone puts a value in whilst Type is set to "Equipment" and then Type is reset to "Instrument" and in the meantime the user has selected a value for Criticality, the value stays 'stuck' in the Criticality box, despite the field being disabled. It is a bound field. How do I purge any contents stored in Criticality when the field is disabled? I presume it's something like an SQL statement to set the value to null, but I'm not quite certain.

Forms :: Change Field Depending On Combo Box

Mar 18, 2014

In the database, there is a table called "Jobs" which sales enquiries are entered into. In this table, there are fields called "JobStatus" which has the default text of "Quotation Pending" and a combo box "JobLive" which is a "yes/no" field. Normally a job will come in as quotation request and the "JobsLive" field will be set to "no".

Occasionally, a job will come in as confirmed from the outset. In this case, the job will be marked as "live" in the combo box "JobLive". Is it possible to change the "JobStatus" field to "Job Live" when this combo box is changed to "yes"?At any other stage, the "JobStatus" field will be changed using an update query as and when changes are made.

The field can be set to 1,2 or 3 via the combo box or left blank in which case its value will be null. Sometimes I need to reset this field to null. How can I do this via a combo box? I know I could just set this to an empty string but this would mean re-writing a load of queries which a looking for a number or null.

Something like 1;"First";2;"Second";3;"Third";Null;"Blank"

Forms :: Field In Form Based On Combo Boxes

Jun 4, 2015

My database is using data that is entered by the employees to generate Quotations. There is one important piece of information that will not be entered by the employee. The quotes involve metals which are priced based on market price and weight. I am planning on integrating a data feed with this information, but for now I want to enter it manually in a table. The price depends on two combo boxes one for "Precious or Base Metals", and one for "Metal Name". I want those two values to call the price from a table, and automatically fill in the "Market Price" field in the form. Also once that is in I would like to do my calculations. I am planning on using queries to do these. Is that the correct method?
