Forms :: Allow Edits In Design Mode

Jan 9, 2015

I have a form which was locked down (ie Allow additions, allow edit and allow deletions were all set to no) on the Form property. I want to change this to allow edits so in design mode I changed the Allow Edits property to Yes.

I then went to Form view and was able to update fields on the form. When I exited the form it asked me if I wanted to save the changes so I clicked yes.

On going back into the form I can no longer update the fields I could before. Going into design mode I can see that Allow edits on the form property is set to no again.

What is happening here. There is nothing in the on load or other events to set this to no, besides this shouldn't change the form property should it?

I know I can get around it my setting the property in the form itself but why is the property getting reset in the first place.

Access 2010.

Forms :: Main Form Opening Subform In Add Mode But One Field Is Already Filled

Jul 20, 2015

I'm using Access 2007. I have a few problems:

1. I have a switchboard. I want to click a button, that opens a form with a dropdown list, when I make my selection, it opens a subform in add mode, but the linked field in the subform isn't empty, but filled with the mainform's field value that I selected?

OR

2. Is there a way for me to open a form in add mode, add data to it, click the add button (I will add an add button) that allows me to add again, but this time a particular field is not empty, but filled with selected info from previous selection?

Say for instance, I have 2 fields (both combo box fields), I click add, made selections for both fields, I click add again, but this time one of the fields stays constant like it's already been selected. It's filled with what was selected from before.

Either of those 2 - which ever is simpler.

Forms :: Field Reference Lost Until Design Mode / VBA?

Oct 7, 2013

I have a form/subform that requires some fields from the Switchboard for its criteria. Last week due to no action on my part, it started asking for those values as Parameters instead (Forms!Data!txtInspDate), etc! The new form loads, but of course it is blank with no data. This happens if I load it from a command button or from the navigation sidebar... UNLESS I first load the switchboard in Design Mode, go to VBA window, then reload the Switchboard in Form Mode and press the button. From then on until I close the database, everything works fine!

Hi.

I have put much time in designing a form.
After exiting and saving it, I cannot now open it. Only the Page Header shows, and I cannot get into 'Design' mode. I have tried repairing and compacting to no avail.
Any ideas?

Form Opening In Full Screen Mode Instead Of Size Set In Design?

Aug 9, 2012

I just imported all of my objects (tables, forms, etc.) into a brand new database file and all of my forms are now full screen instead of the size I set them to in design. What caused this? I can't get them back to their normal size.

I am using Access 2007 but imported files into 2003 .mdb file.

General :: Removed Submenu Access On Login Form - Cannot Switch To Design Mode

Apr 21, 2015

I'm working on a login form and *not thinking* I removed access to the submenu. I had already set the form up so that you either login correctly or exit the program. I'm working in code for the form and I know it's possible to reactivate the menu in code, I just don't know how. And I can't switch to design mode. The form is set up to not allow anything to happen until the correct login has been entered, and I either had a typo when I set up my test login or the program is bugged and only says it's incorrect....

Queries :: Crosstab Design Is Slow When Opening And Saving In Design Mode?

Oct 6, 2014

I have had to use my first crosstab queries.

I now understand that when opening and saving crosstab queries Access (2010) runs that query to ascertain the column names. Unless you hard-code them. Running the query takes at least 20 minutes.
I have hard-coded where I can, but one report takes arbitrary dates so I can't hard-code them.

I believe that turning off AutoCorrect might make a difference to whether the query runs - but I don't want to turn it off.

When I bring up the db I see a form and I can get into VB for that form but I cannot see any embedded table, forms reports, etc.

Access Closes In Design Master Mode

Mar 27, 2008

I have an application that when in design master shuts down when I attempt to open a certain form. I have traced the problem to a linked field from another table, by creating a new form and ommitting the said field, problem is its a required field!

If I copy the database (Backup) and run it as a replica it does not happen, if I then convert the replica to design master it happens.

Any suggestions please??

Queries :: Query Design Defualts To SQL Mode

May 7, 2013

When I click on the design mode of a query object, generally MS Access defaults to the GUI design view... but in this one application, the design view is pulling up queries in SQL mode first...

If I want to set it to the GUI design mode, I have to either hit design again or run the query then hit design to have it pull up in the regular design mode. Is there a setting or something I am missing? Seems that it only does this when the SQL code is reltively involved (i.e. the simpler queries pull up in the normal design view.

Forms :: Macro To Open A Form In Hidden Mode

Mar 7, 2013

I have a button using a macro to open a form in Hidden mode. Then I have another button on another form to open this form that was hidden.

When I open the form, the form is virtually blank apart from the form caption name. But when I close this and press the button again the form opens as normal.

I do not understand why?

I was told that once you hide the form and when you open the form again, it should appear normal. Why do I get this blank form??? Only by hitting the button again then the form is normal....

Forms :: When Duplicating A Record Duplicate Is Created But Form Remains In Edit Mode

Feb 25, 2014

I have a form with a duplicate record button.Sometimes when duplicating a record the duplicate is created but the form remains in edit mode (small pencil in the form margin).I also have a manual record counter on the form which does not refresh to the newest record number following the duplication? Both issues happen together and not independently.

I now have the standard MS Access record counter visible on the form to see whats happening and this always jumps correctly to a new record number when duplication is triggered, so when the problem happens the MS Access counter is showing one more than my own record counter.

If I use the standard MS Access record navigation buttons and go back and then forward by one record, the duplicated record is then corrected. The edit mode pencil is gone and both record counters read the same, which I assume has happened this has forced a save to happen

If Me.Dirty
Then Me.Dirty = False
End If

- in the current event of the form, would solve the problem, but it doesnt make any difference at all, its still no better, or no worse than before?Using CTRL + S removes the pencil, but doesn't correct my bespoke record counter?

Forms :: Updating Form Properties Dynamically - Command Button To Display Mode

Apr 16, 2014

I have a single form which becomes either readonly or editable or addnew using a circular toggle switch. The toggle switch is activated by a command button and the caption of the command button is used as the display of the mode.

The SetAddModeBt is a separate command button that initiates the add mode. The problem is that various form or field properties when defined on the fly are not stored and they get lost when you open the form again. Look at the code below:

Code:
Sub tglEditBt_Click()
'-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
' Circular toggle button to change display mode of the form
' ReadOnly - Edit - Add
'-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
' On Error GoTo NotFound
Dim ForName As String
Dim strSQL As String
Dim FMode As String

[Code] ....

Here the first two cases fail when executing the last statement saying it is not supported.

Forms :: Open Form From (Edit List Items) Option In Data Entry Mode

Feb 4, 2014

I have several comboboxes in my database from which users select values. However, in most cases, I do want to give them the option to add an item that does not appear while simultaneously updating the underlying table which stores those dropdown values. I have made use of the builtin "allow edit list items" feature of Access 2007 but the form always opens on the first record of the form on which they are to add the new item. Is there a way to specify that it should open in Data Entry view apart from using VBA?

Modules & VBA :: Controlling Fields In A SubForm Displayed In DataSheet Mode

Dec 2, 2013

I have a Form to Display Projects that has a SubForm displaying Sub-Projects related to them. The main Project Form has a Combo Box which allows a user to select a ProjectID to display. The SubForm has a ProjectID Field as well. When the Project ID is selected in the Main Form, only the appropriate Sub-Projects are displayed in the Sub-Form.

On the SubForm, there is a Field named ActionID, which uses the following VB Code to limit the availability of the Fields in the SubForm that apply to Dates. If the selected Action is Install, only Install related Dates should be available. Likewise, if the selected Action is Remove only Remove related Dates should be available.

Code:

If Me.ActionID.Column(1) = "Install" Then
Me.AssetInstallMonth.Enabled = True
Me.AssetInstallYear.Enabled = True
Me.AssetRemovalYear.Enabled = False
Me.AssetInstallMonth.Locked = False

[Code] ....

Everything seems to work as expected until there is more than one Sub-Project is the SubForm and they do not contain the same Action. In these cases, it appears as if the Sub-Projects in the SubForm are not being treated as individual records. If Sub-Project is Added or Modified to have an action of "Install", all records are treated as Install Records (only Install related Dates are available), regardless of their content.

Is there a way to update the properties for only the row that has been selected?

Link Two Forms Together On One Field In Add Mode

Jan 17, 2006

Hello!

I Have a
project form
test form
sample form
for 1 project there are n tests and for 1 test there are n samples.

The project form is alone and has a button to open the related tests in the test form. The test form incorporates the sample form as a subform.

What works:
For entries already in the database when I click the related tests button on the project form it opens the test form filtered in the correct manner.

For the test form the sample form displays and increments correctly.

What doesn't work:
When I open the project form in add mode I fill in the data and when it is done I click the related tests button and the linked/child field isn't there! No data, I can't get it to work...

Can you suggest something?

PS I cannot find anywhere in the Data properties the Linked field properties... neither child nor parent?

Openning A Form In Add Mode

Oct 6, 2006

Hi All,

This is such a newbie question I realise, but I have a form (frmFOBEntry) with a combobox (cboMarketCode) which returns a list from tblMarketCode.

New records are added to tblMarketCode using a form frmMarketCode

When I look through the combobox on the first form if the MarketCode I want is not there I want to be able to click a button which will open frmMarketCode in add mode.

Have looked through the forum and found all manner of flash ways to open on to certain records and the like, but nothing that simply opens the form so you can add a new record.

Also, if I add a record will the combobox update automatically?

Many thanks

Passing Variables Between Forms In Shared Mode

Sep 28, 2006

Before I go any further w/this current application, I want to make sure this will work.

I have an access database w/a few forms that will sit on a shared drive on a network. Each user will also have their own username and password because each user will have a certain level of access to what they are allowed to see. The problem I am facing is that if I put the users ID into the global variables module, and two users log on at the same time, then access seems to somehow use both of the IDs when running queries. This makes sense that all uses can see it, since it's Global... but I need a way for simultaneous users to have a persistant unique id so I can query data that's only meant for them. I found this example of code that might remedy the situation by passing variables between the forms.

Call the code below in frmOne to pass the variable.

DoCmd.OpenForm "frmTwo", acNormal, , , , acWindowNormal, "Count=2"

Call the code below in frmTwo to get the variable.

Dim i as Integer
i = CInt(GetTagFromArg(Me.OpenArgs, "Count" ))

Will I end up w/the same result? Will all users be able to see this variable as well?
