Forms :: Subforms Randomly Adding Blank Records Not Clearing Fields
Sep 18, 2013
My subforms are randomly adding blank records and one subform I would like to stay blank repopulates with data, though not necessarily the most recently added record. Both of these seem to happen when I navigate to other main records in the database and then return to this page.Using Access 2013, I have a large form with 10 pages. On one of the pages, I have two subforms. This is set up to gather many-to-one data. The top subform is my data entry form with three fields (two combo and a text) and a command button. The bottom subform is a datasheet displaying the three fields.
The two combo boxes are cascading, and they work great. The text box is there to collect additional info for each selection.
The command button works to
1) save the record,
2) requery both subforms in order to display the new data on the datasheet,
3) clear the combo and text boxes, and 4) set focus back to the initial combo box. It all works!
But then when I leave that main record, the horror begins: blank records (from the "many" table) show up on the datasheet and the data entry fields do not stay blank. I suspect my problem is in the command button. I added this code to the OnClick for the command button:
Code:
Private Sub addMinistryItems_Click()
'save record
If Me.Dirty Then Me.Dirty = False
'requery both subforms
Forms![BCD MAIN 2013]!Child572.Form.Requery
Forms![BCD MAIN 2013]!Ministries1.Form.Requery
I have a form with a tabbed area, each tab containing a subform. One of these subforms adds records to a table. Another subform shows the totals from that table.
But when I add records, the totals tab is not updated with the new quantities unless I close the form completely and go back in. I tried adding Me.Dirty = False to the subform that adds the records but that makes no difference.
It seems as though the 'totals' subform gets those values as the form is loaded and does not change, even when records are added and then that tab is selected.
How can I get the totals subform to show the updated totals?
I am creating an Access database that I want to be able to use to change a header table and its associated detail table. I have created a fmain-form that shows the header table fields. This form also has a subform which shows the detail records which are linked to a field in the header table. One header may have many linked detail records from the detail table. I have been able to easily enter information into the detail records that are shown in the subform.
I would like to know how I can add new detail records directly on the subform so that they will automatically pick up the correct header field from the main form. This way I know that the record I add to the sub-form with be linked to the open record of the main form.
Also, I would like to learn a way to sum all of the values of one of the fields shown in the sub-form and place it on the main-form. How can I do this so that I only sum those values that are in the sub-form that are linked to the open man-form record... not sum all of the values from all of the records in the database?
Picking up on some previous conversations with people, I have a form (Interconnect Register) within a database that I am trying to add a "cancel" button to which would close the form without saving. I can do this now, but the problem is there is a subform (Sheetsubfrom) within the main form. I have struggled to get the subform data to clear (was trying to use the DIRTY property but it wouldn't work - believe me, spent ages on it!) but have now got the following in place which I thought would work.
Private Sub Command41_Click() Dim retval As Integer
'Check main form On Error GoTo Sub_Form: Forms![Interconnect Register].SetFocus DoCmd.DoMenuItem acFormBar, acEditMenu, acUndo, , acMenuVer70
The problem has come full circle, in that when nothing has been changed ie nothing to cancel, an error occurs saying "nothing to undo". I believe this is something to do with having an error handling procedure nested within another error handling procedure, as from what I can make out from the help files Access backtracks to the level above. So when I have an error in the Sub_Form part, the whole thing crashes.
Any ideas guys and gals? I could try posting then DB on here if that would help, providing I can zip it up ok
I am creating a table in access 2010 for my consumable and bench stock report. I made a 12 fields which I name it the month of the year and another 1 field to add the total disburse materials in one whole year. I did this formula to add the 12 fields
But the problem is its just adding the complete consecutive months that I disburse and the row with blank section the total disburse doesn't show on the total disburse for the whole year. I try to use the code =Nz([Total Disburse],0) but it shows on the screen i cannot be used in calculated column.
I have a WO Table and a related WO Procedures Table. I would like to add a specific # of blank lines/records between each record but that # will vary. So the report will show the WO Procedure Desc then a specified # of blank lines below it and then the next WO Procedures Desc then a specified # of blank lines below it etc.
I thought to add a field to the Proc tbl called #ofLines and whatever number was entered would be the # of blank lines to appear below the record on the report.
I've received a database that is a digitized population register from the 19th century. All adults have been entered into the database, but all children are missing.
Every person has a unique number that corresponds with the original source (this variable is called 'no', this is not the autonumber primary key thing). Instead of searching in the original source which numbers are still missing, I would like to add the missing numbers (with no additional information, because I still need to type that in).
For example, the table now looks like this:
no - name_last - name_first - occupation etc
1 Smith Henry baker 2 Smith Mary 5 Williams John butcher 6 and so on
So 3 and 4 are missing.
How can I add these missing numbers automatically?
I'm working on a db logging replies to a questionnaire. Judging by the responses I am receiving it appears that some sections are not completed at all. I need to be able to include these blank responses when it comes to analysis. My design splits the questionnaire into sections, each section has a data entry form with its own underlying table. Each table has a primary key (autonumber field) which relates to each organisation that has replied. If an organisation has failed to complete a section, I still need to create a new record in that section(table), triggering the autonumber field, hence referring back to the organisation. I know I haven't explained this very well, but if anyone can make sense of what I'm saying and can give me any suggestions on how to make this happen, I would be most grateful.
Is there any known issues and even better fixes for records where they partially vanish into thin air, well the meaningful contents disappear and I'm left with nulls. Been an ongoing issue for quite some time, rebuilds haven't fixed the problem, although the same table, different records every time too. There are in excess of 50,000 records in this table and it's just the one here and there, on a frequency basis, say every month or so. :confused:
I am in the process of building Append Queries for new records, and I know I can do an Update Query to enter specific information. However, how can I update multiple records from a (externally sourced) linked table to fill in blanks of an existing table? I have created a query to identify records with 1 or more matching criteria which contain the blank fields. I now want to update those blank fields. The data in each blank field is different for each record (same type, just different data).
I have a query which selects a material ID and material name from one table and the associated manufacturer, supplier, and packaging type from three other tables. Some of the manufacturer, supplier, and packaging data were imported from an Excel spreadsheet and did not have data for those fields, so those fields are blank. When I run the query, I only get the records which have all fields filled out. How can I get the records where the material ID and material name are filled in, but the manufacturer, supplier, or packaging type are blank? Here is the query I'm using currently:
Code: SELECT tblMaterialSpecifications.ID, tblMaterialSpecifications.Critical, tblMaterialSpecifications.MaterialSupply, tblManufacturer.Manufacturer, tblSupplier.Supplier, tblPackaging.PackageType FROM tblPackaging INNER JOIN (tblSupplier INNER JOIN (tblManufacturer INNER JOIN tblMaterialSpecifications ON tblManufacturer.ID = tblMaterialSpecifications.ManufacturerID) ON tblSupplier.ID = tblMaterialSpecifications.SupplierID) ON tblPackaging.ID = tblMaterialSpecifications.PackagingID WHERE (((tblMaterialSpecifications.ActiveInactive)=-1)) ORDER BY tblMaterialSpecifications.Critical, tblMaterialSpecifications.MaterialSupply;
I have a query with a list of Customer SSNs and Claim Rep, I want to randomly pick 5 Customer SSNs for each of the Claim Rep. I can't figure out on how to do that, I was able to create an SQL code to just randomly pick the customer SSN. I don't know anything about Visual Basic codes, but if that is the only solution, please go ahead post it. Thank you very much in advanced.
I have a form and subform.The form and subform both access tables that have "required" fields.If I try to tab to the sub form without filling in the required field then I get an error message generated by access (this is what I want). If I try and exit the form without the required field I get an error message as well.
Now it's a different story with the sub form. The sub form contains 1 to many rows. In each row there is a required field. I don't get any error message for not filling in that field. I Know I can 'capture' this in the code but I want access to do it.
I'm creating a search form to filter out data based on certain inputs. My VBA code looks like:
Code: Private Sub Command18_Click() On Error GoTo errorcatch Me.Filter = "([Experiments.Log] Like ""*" & Me.Text21 & "*"") AND ([Expdate] Like ""*" & Me.Text22 & "*"") AND ([BaseSolution] Like ""*" & Me.Text24 & "*"") AND([AddCom] Like ""*" & Me.Text25 & "*"") AND ([Test] Like ""*" & Me.Text26 & "*"") AND ([Plan] Like ""*" & Me.Text23 & "*"")"
Me.FilterOn = True Exit Sub errorcatch: MsgBox "Error #: " & Err.Number & vbCrLf & vbCrLf & Err.Description End Sub
However, the output does not include records where other fields are blank. I have read that I may need to use Is Null but am not sure how to.
I have a scenario that I tried on an Excel forum but didn't have much luck. Conditions for my assignment:
1) Long description short, I have to randomly select 2 records for each client each month.
2) The catch is that these records have to be different states until the process is done for all 50 states, so the process isn't done for 4 years and 2 months (50 months).
I am working on MS Access 2010 and have come across a bit complex situation. I have a table with about 20 fields. In a main form, I have added 4 sub-forms where each sub-form is showing 5 fields of each record from the table. This is because of step by step data entry into the same record. I have made these sub-forms as "Continuous Forms" and have given them look of Data Sheet.
There are about 1000 records currently present in the table and these are showing in my sub-forms (5 fields each). Now the problem is that, when I have my Focus on one record in my first sub-form to enter some data, and then I click on second tab of sub-form, the same records should be shown in second sub-form as well. Currently it is not being happening and I have to scroll down my second sub-form to search that particular record. It will become much more difficult when number of records will increase.
How can I work it around and get my cursor on the same record on every sub-form?
I created a new form with two subforms. They each reference their own table but are linked by a field called Case_Name. I created a unbound combo box in the main form to allow filtering of the records based on Case_name and I do a requery when the record is found. I am importing data from another application into the three tables ( main with other fields, as well as other tables ..Case_Name only).
The form/subforms are then used to modify or add new data to the existing records in each table/subform. The problem I have is when I go to update/add data in the subforms, it comes back and tells me that it cannot add data due to data integrity. It thinks I am trying to add a new record with the same Case_Name. I have the forms and subforms set up as Data Entry = No so that no new records can be added. I only want to modify existing data as the records are created from the import process.
I have a one page form set up into 4 different sections. Each section has its own command. First section is Radio buttons with a drop down list. The next three are text boxes. I have a rather simple question, next to my OK command button I want a to create a button that will say "Clear" and I want it to clear the text inside the text field but if possible to clear the radio buttons and the drop down list too. Its not a main concern about radio buttons because you can just unclick it. But I was not sure what the VB is for clearing text inside a text box. Thank you.
I'm looking for a way to clear the fields from a form after I finish entering data into all the fields (enter button or something). The form only displays one record at a time. My problem is that after a distraction (phone call, etc) I sometimes wind up coming back and entering data in the last displayed record which messes up that record. Or is there a way to automatically advance to a blank form when finished with a record?......

When the Next button at the bottom of the page is clicked I want all the values of each table recorded even if there were no values put in the boxes.
For example if there is no value added to the field boxes in say half the tables I want the default value to be recorded as blank or zero so that each table has the same Autonumber associated with the other tables in the form.
I have a totalquery that runs fine and give me the sum for both fields I'm looking for but I can't get the outputs to fill the fields on the form. I have tried the Dcount query in the control source but that just returns an error and locks up access.
Code: SELECT [Tble-wcDelays].Causedby, Sum([Tble-wcDelays].HoursDelay) AS SumOfHoursDelay FROM [Tble-wcDelays] GROUP BY [Tble-wcDelays].Causedby, [Tble-wcDelays].LinkingID HAVING ((([Tble-wcDelays].LinkingID)=[Forms]![Frm-ePlusCent]![cleanID]));
I have a continuous subform recording the information of various wireless products for an employee embedded in an employee main form. Please see screen shot enclosed.
There is a check box "BYOD/Personal" on the subform. I want to hide a number fields when this check box on independent record is checked. However, if I use the following codes, the changes apply to all records under that employee.
Private Sub BYOD/Personal_AfterUpdate()
If BYOD/Personal.Value = True then Me.Provider.Enabled = False Me.XXX.Enabled = False....etc. Else Me.Provider.Enabled = True Me.XXX.Enabled = True....etc. End If End Sub
How can I just disable those fields on the subform of a specific record when the BYOD/Personal field for that record is checked?
I have a form with several subforms for entering information while surveying rooms in a building. I am trying to create a button to copy records from one of the subforms if the data is the same (for example if there are 3 types of flooring in multiple rooms) and append it into the same subform with a different space ID. I can not get it to recognize the Space ID on the current record. This is what I have in the command button code:
Private Sub AppendFloorCmd_Click() Dim FloorTypes As String, SpaceUpdate As String Dim CurrentSpace As TextBox Set CurrentSpace = Me.SpaceID FloorTypes = "INSERT INTO FlooringSurveyTable (FlooringHomoID)" & _ "SELECT FlooringSurveyTable.FlooringHomoID FROM FlooringSurveyTable " & _ "WHERE (((FlooringSurveyTable.SpaceID)=[Enter Space ID to copy]))"
[code]....
When I click the button, it appends the right records but makes me type in the current space ID - I've tried a bunch of ways of naming that control, but it will not work.
Have a strange problem. I've created a form with multiple subforms and if there is a record for the subform to display everything looks fine. However, if there is no record for the subform it does not show anything on the screen or if printed.
I would like for the fields on the subforms to show no matter what but I can't figure out why it doing this. I've checked the display parameters and everything is set right.
How do I make the forms show no matter if there is data to display?
