Forms :: Successfully Updating A Combobox Not In List Event
Jun 14, 2015
I have a basic form linked with a subform inside of it. The main form has a list of customers in a combobox and the subform lists all the things they have ordered from us. This all works perfectly fine, I can add data to the list of things ordered and it's ok.
I decided instead of using a whole extra form to add customers I'd just have a not in list event and allow users to add customers through there, bit more intuitive and cut down on forms.
It works to certain extent except one small problem, if I add a customer I have to close and reopen the form to be able to add/remove data from them in the subform. If I leave the form open and try to enter in data in the subform immediately it just shows whatever customer I had last on the combobox and adds it to the last customer as well.
It works perfectly fine if I reopen it so I thought it was some kind of query or update snafu but all the VBA code examples I found don't seem to do anything. Not exactly sure where to go from here.
PHP Code:
Private Sub cboDept_NotInList(NewData As String, Response As Integer)
Dim oRS As DAO.Recordset, i As Integer, sMsg As String
Dim oRSClone As DAO.Recordset
Response = acDataErrContinue
If MsgBox("Add dept?", vbYesNo) = vbYes Then
Set oRS = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("tblDepartments", dbOpenDynaset)
I am designing a nomination form (web database so no vba macros can be used).
The form has 3 combo boxes: cboStaffName, cboLevel, cboNominee.
The form is bound to the tblSubmit table where the submissions are populated.
I used a select statement:SELECT Staff_List.Staff_Name FROM Staff_List; to populate the combo box for the Staff Name selection.
This is the select statement to populate the job level combobox:
SELECT Staff_List.Level, Staff_List.Staff_Name FROM Staff_List WHERE (((Staff_List.Staff_Name)=[forms]![frmtest]![cboStaffName]));
The select statement to populate the combobox for the nominee combobox:
SELECT Staff_List.Staff_Name FROM Staff_List WHERE (((Staff_List.Level)=[forms]![frmtest]![cboLevel]));
The problem is that the staff_name in the first combobox is still found in the nominee combobox which should not be because a staff cannot nominate self. There is a field in the Staff_List called YesNo that should be activated for each staff that is selected so that the select statement on the nominee combobox can be updated accordingly to remove items with the field "Active"
How to get the checkbox selected for each corresponding staff.
I currently use this code to trigger a not in list event, ask the user if they want to add it to the respective table, and then add it.
I'd like to be able to add the text in the combo box that triggers the event to show up in the msgbox.
Private Sub cboCategory_NotInList(NewData As String, Response As Integer) Const Message1 = "The data you have entered " & me.cbocategory.text &" is not in the current dataset." Const Message2 = "Add now?" Const Title = "Unknown entry in CATEGORY Field..." Const NL = vbCrLf & vbCrLf
So I have a bound form with the following onload code:
Code: 'Add the percent completed to lblPercentCompleted by calling the function Dim Completed As Double
[code]...
This works fine and set the caption and color of a label on this form.On this form I have several (now only a few, but in the end probably 40 controls or so) which will get updated by the user. When any of these controls are updated, I want the label lblpercentCompleted to get updated with the propper caption and color, however I am having trouble doing this.
I have an afterupdate event on each control with the same code as the onload code, however the message box below appears but the label does not update.
Code: Private Sub TransferDieCutsOn_AfterUpdate() MsgBox "Updating Label" 'Add the percent completed to lblPercentCompleted by calling the function Dim Completed As Double
I have a mainform in access with a subform (continous form mode). The subform's source is a query that has a criteria parameter that gets the values from a combobox in mainform.(list of projects) Combobox name= cmbProject
It works fine for some records (old records), so when I migrate new data into the table the comboxbox display the new data but when I select the record to be dispayed on the subform, the record or data is not in the subform, so the record is in blank.
i have created a form and its working correctly. however i have just been informed some of the fields needed deleting and different ones put in their place. so im just wondering if there is anyway to updated the field list so i can just add the new fields without having to recreate the whole form.
I have a combobox with a value list as the control source. I have a user who clicks the drop-down, but there are no options. Every other user is able to view these options, and this user has no problem with any other combobox with a value list.
I need to construct a very complex student/coach/time/day Database.
Every student can attend a lesson twice a week, on a particular day and time with a particular coach.
Every coach has his/her own time table (Days available, times available on those days).
So I want this effect on a form:
Day: Monday Coach: Jack Time: 10:00
So Coach is dependent on Day, Time is dependent on BOTH Coach and Day.
I got the first one working but I am stuck on the second.
I created a Table for every day of the week (Mon through Friday) and have each coach's name as the "header" of a column, in that column I have the times they are available:
Code:
Jack - Roy 08:00 - 09:00 08:20 - 09:20 08:40 - 09:40
In my form, in the event procedure of the second list box I have the following:
Code: Select Case [Swimming_Day_1] Case "Tuesday" [Time_1].RowSource = "SELECT [Coach_1].Value " & _ "FROM [Tuesday Times] " End Select
But now when I select for example "Jack" in the "Coach_1" List box, the "Time_1" list box lists 3 entries of "Jack", not "08:00, 08:20, 08:40" respectively.
How can I accomplish the above without having to create a separate Day/Times Table For each and every coach (There are 8 coaches and 5 days, and I want things as easy as possible to update coaches should there come extra or some leave maybe).
With some other data, i have a field called "Local". (combobox)
In that "Local" field i must select the place where the checklist is made.
So, i have 20 places to do checklists, and when i select one place and save the check list, i need that "local" is disable from my combobox list so i dont accidentally repeat it.
My combobox is based in a table query.
I must do 2 checklists per day for each those 20 places...
And i cant figure out how to remove those items after use them at the morning... and have them available again in the afternoon.
My combobox is not working correctly. When I select one of the dropdown items in the combobox it always defaults to the 1st item on the list. I want to be able to select any of the dropdown items on the list.
I have a database that is used to generate quotations. I have a form that I want to use to Re-Quote something. By Re-Quote, I mean I want the employee to be able to go in and search for the Part desired for Re-Quoting and create a new quotation with all of the information from that part and have the ability to change any of the information as needed. The Form is unbound, and has tab control with three tabs. I would like to search by three different categories "QuotationNumber", "Customer", Or "PartNumber". How do I have the combobox filter the list box below based on what is being typed in the combobox?
I have a data base with names, email IDs, phone numbers of 5 types(example quality, security, IT,finance etc) of person from ten different project teams. I created a basic form for the end user to enter values and created fields for each of the person's name, email ID etc based on the personal type( liek quality, IT, finance etc) on each team. The background table contains records of almost 200 people now.
All of these people will be trained for one task and some will be trained for multiple tasks. I know how to make the combo box allow multiple values/selections but, i cannot list out all 200 personal names in the combobox's rowsource/value list. Is it possible to combine all different name fields and list out all personal(of one team), so that the end user can just select multiple names for that team who have been trained and so on. i need to set the rowsource of the combobox to the values of all personal from one team so the team leader can just go select who has been trained and who has not.
This is something very simple, but I am messing it up terribely. If someone could please help me out with this.
I have a form which has a combo box. This combo box contains a list of Query names. What I am trying to do is simpely, when you highlight on any of the query names and click the run query button it should fire the query the result should be displayed in the datasheet view. I am not able to get a hang on how to do this.
It would be really helpful if someone could help me out with this as i need to get this done ASAP.
I have a form frm_GlobalSettings with a combobox cmbDescription that finds a record based on the value selected. The row source type for cmbDescription is Table/query, and the row source is a select statement on the form's underlying table.
I want the user to be able to use cmbDescription to add a new record to the form's underlying table. I currently have
Code:
Private Sub cmbDescription_NotInList(NewData As String, Response As Integer) Dim strTmp As String 'Get confirmation that this is not just a spelling error. 10 On Error GoTo cmbDescription_NotInList_Error 20 strTmp = "Add '" & NewData & "' as a new global setting?"
[code]....
but when a new value is entered this errors on line 70 with "runtime errror 2118 - you must save the current field before you run the requery action".I've tried various ways around this but can't get it to work.
I would like to select a record from my combobox dropdown list and have that record populate in my subform. Currently, I am only able to select the 1st record at the top of the dropdown list to appear in my subform. But I would like to select any record from the dropdown list and have it populate my subform.
I have a data entry form where country(ies) (there can be more than one for each project) is/are entered in a sub-form on a tab control. Countries not listed are entered by the following:
Private Sub CountryName_NotInList(NewData As String, Response As Integer) Dim strSQL As String Dim strMsg As String Dim ctl As Control Set ctl = Screen.ActiveControl
strMsg = "Country " & NewData & " Is not listed!" & vbCrLf & "Do you want to add it?" If MsgBox(strMsg, vbYesNo, "Not listed") = vbYes Then strSQL = "INSERT INTO tblCOUNTRY (CountryName) " strSQL = strSQL & "VALUES('" & NewData & "');" CurrentDb.Execute strSQL Response = acDataErrAdded Else ctl.Undo Response = acDataErrContinue End If End Sub
This works fine. However, if I restrict the country names by a region selection on the main form (for example if region Africa is selected on the the African countries are preselected) the NotIn List does not work. Any way to work around this?
Another question, I want the user to select a region (a combo box ) on the main form and when a new country (using the NotInList event) is entered in the subform both values go into the same record in tblCountry (which has two fields CountryName and Region). For example, I enter AFRICA for region on the main form and on the sub-form I enter Malawi which is not listed. I have tried the following:
Private Sub CountryName_NotInList(NewData As String, Response As Integer) Dim strSQL As String Dim strMsg As String Dim ctl As Control Set ctl = Screen.ActiveControl
strMsg = "Country " & NewData & " Is not listed!" & vbCrLf & "Do you want to add it?" If MsgBox(strMsg, vbYesNo, "Not listed") = vbYes Then strSQL = "INSERT INTO tblCOUNTRY (CountryName, Region) " strSQL = strSQL & "VALUES('" & NewData & "', FORMS!frmAddPro!Region);" CurrentDb.Execute strSQL Response = acDataErrAdded Else ctl.Undo Response = acDataErrContinue End If End Sub
But it does not work (Region is the control on the main form named frmAddPro). Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks. Niels
Hi, I'm new here and I thought I had already posted this but i couldn't find it so I am posting again... sorry if I've posted twice
When I pass a value from MyTextBox to MyComboBox using:
Me.MyTextBox = Me.MyComboBox
It does Not trigger the AfterUpdate Event of the ComboBox
I need it to! Any Suggestions??
I have tried: copy and pasting by but that creates a problem
Me.MyTextBox = BarCodeData$ 'passes the variable value to MyTextBox Me.MyTextBox .SetFocus Me.MyTextBox .SelStart = 0 Me.MyTextBox .SelLength = Len(Me.MyTextBox ) + 1 SendKeys "^c" 'copies the value of of MyTextBox
as soon as I add the below line, it no longer copies the value in MyTextBox Me.MyComboBox.SetFocus
The onEnter Event of MyComboBox has the following code that works fine.
If I ran all the code above, all works but the "Copy" and thus anything that may be in the clipboard is pasted into MyComboBox, and the AfterUpDate of MyComboBox triggers.
I know that there are compelling reason NOT to use the SendKeys but I was just trying something
What I'd really like to do is eliminate MyTextBox and pass the Variable directly to MyComboBox:
Me.MyComboBox= BarCodeData$
And have it force the AfterUpdate Event of MyComboBox
I have a combo box with three columns, the first one is the bound one, the second is text in English, and the third is text in Spanish. Currently when the form is open, both the English and Spanish texts columns are visible. What I would like to do is set up a command button on a different form that will open the form with just the English showing in the combo boxes, and another button for Spanish. I've tried the following code which opens the form, but the combo box is disabled altogether.
Hello guru's, I've searched the complete forum for the answer but I just can't find it. I've got a main form with 2 comboboxes on it. The first one filters the second one. What I need now is the 2nd combobox to filter the SubForm. I've tried to add a subform with the wizard but then it shows the complete table instead of only the ones selected in the second combobox.
I've got 3 tables: 1 for classes, 1 for students and 1 for the attendance. The 1st combobox selects the class, the second one selects the student. The 3rd table is used to enter absences (date, time, teacher etc) and it should appear in the subform when the student is selected.
Can anyone please give me a little advice? Thanks heaps in advanced! Sebastian.
sorry if this q has already been asked, but i couldnt find what im looking for after searching..
i have a main form. there is a combo box that is that is bound to tblSupplierDetails. this combox displays the records stored in tblSupplierDetails fine. now beside this combobox i have a hyperlink that opens a subform called 'subfrmAddNewSuppliers'. this subform works correctly - ie. when details are entered here, they are stored in tblSupplierDetails
my prob is that if the user adds new supplier details via the subform, these details do not appear in the combo box for the user to select when they are returned to the main form.. they appear if the form is restarted
Ive inserted the statesment Me.ComboBoxName.Requery (with ComboBoxName ammended) into the event procedure for After Update for the combobox.
however, with this the new details which are added via the subform are replacing the previously added record - so theres only ever one record in tblSupplierDetails.. can someone pls help me with this?
I tried looking through the threads to find something that is relevant to my situation.
I am having trouble with a form where i need to select a name in one combobox and a month in another and then upon which a subreport displays the records for that name and month on a subreport which can then be added extra records or old records edited.
Does anyone know how to do this or can maybe just give me some code or point of reference to do this. I have tried but all attempts return no results.
