Forms :: Table Doesn't Read Combo Box Info Correctly

I have a form "FrmMaintenance" based on the query "QryMaintenance" that is taken information from the table "TblMaintenance".
In the form, I have to pull the serial number of a machine from a drop down list which works perfectly fine in the form and it also updates other associated records.
When I go to the table, it puts associated number instead of the serial number that I've pulled.
Same thing happening for the pull down list "Engineer".
I've tried to look at the format of the "SerialNo" and changed to text, then to Combo Box but it didn't work, and the same for "Engineer"

When I open one of my tables or queries and look at the customer Id, the displayed info is a single digit. On my customers table my primary key is the customer Id with auto number with the format like this: "ID"000. This is great however, when you look up the customer id in other tables it only displayes the single digit. I want it to show up like ID001 or ID002. In the customers tables it looks just like that, but if you click in that cell/field it takes away the ID and just shows the 001 or 002. I changed the format in my other tables under customer id to "ID000" but that didn't seem to make a difference. I would like to be able to do a search lets say by customer ID in one of my products table and when I type ID005 or ID012 it takes me to those records. But right now I would have to enter 5 or 12. Datatype in my other tables on field customer ID is set to text. Do I have to do a validation rule? How can I get it to show up the way I want it?

Does a (the) .ldb file have to be closed for another user on a network (separate FE linked to network drive BE) to read/write info to a table? Or even select info from a table?

I have managed to get one combo box on a form (Categories) to look up the approprate values for that category and populate another combo box, i.e. if I choose Premesis costs in the categories combo box, I am given the relevant choices in the Details combo box, eg. rent, cleaning...
Now this is all great but I want the values I select in BOTH boxes to be entered into the underlying table. I have tried putting the relevant field as the control source, but the way it is set up means that only numbers are put into the table. Here is the code and stuff (I got this from a help site, so I have changed my table and control name to theirs to make life a bit easier):

Phew! Is that enough info for someone to help me? I wouldn't mind even the numbers being in the table if there was some way that I could change them back to text for a report.
I'd be really greatful if someone out there could help - be gentle with me though, as I'm note very good at this code thing!

I am new to Access, so bear with me.
I am using Access 2007.
I have 4 tables created, and they are breaking out information for recording files that are being created from a PBX.
The tables are created as thus:
tbl_1
Key:ext_id | extension
tbl_2
Key:loc_id | location
tbl_3
Key:f-type_id | filetype
tbl_4
Key: mass_id | filename | date | loc_id | ext_id | f-type_id
Now I have created the relationships between the tables for the various ID's. My issue is the following:
I will be automating this process, so when the data is imported to the various tables, I need the relevant keys from tbl_1 tbl_2 and tbl_3 to be added to tbl_4 when the new data is brought into the tables.
As to the process of importing the data, I was looking at using PHP to facilitate this. Any ideas, help or direction would be greatly appreciated. I have looked around the net for an idea of how to solve this, but, being so new, I am not exactly sure how to word the question.

I would like to take advantage of using combo boxes to search records on a form but do not want user to be able to edit or change any of the data. Setting the form to read only of course, disallows use of any controls on the form.

I am trying to build a Form that will show an estimate (then eventually will be moved to a project if customer and employee aggree to price and project) in a Form F_Estimates is a M_Customers(Customer_ID) (Based on a Table) and thier info in a Subform. Also is the "projected costs" from parts out of the Parts(Part_ID) (Based on another Table) in a second Subform as a list that I need to calculate $$$ in
(Dang that still sounds evil and definately NOT understandable even after edit... so)

I have a access 2010 file, with 3 tables.
On my form I have a tape Textbox where I put tape numbers in that is on a other table inside my access file (for now I just type a tape number in), then save the info to other table also inside access file.
I want to know how can I make it that if I put a tape number in the textbox, it must look at the table for tapes, and if the tape number is not in the tape table, it must not let me use the wrong tape number that is not in the table for tapes.

I have a database that lists all the books I have read. The Table "Books" holds "AuthorId' "Title" etc. I have another table that is called "Whats Next To Read" which I store the next book that I will read from that author. It also uses "AuthorId" and "Title" etc. In the form, how can I look to see if the title put in for that author in "Whats Next" does not have the same title already in "Books" table. I can use Dcount to find the title but it could be same title different author. I need same title with same author.
This is what I have so far.

I have a database which has been in production for quite a few years, it even made the swap from .mdb and .accdb without losing any of the functionality. Well I just had to export from access to new access to start a new file for one of our projects and now one of the subforms is not adding information into the table. The way the subform functions is it feeds information to the table Lease Tracts, at the same time it has another table Xrf Property Tracts Leases (I didn't pick the name and it drives me nuts too!)
When a user starts to add information into the subform the table lease tracts generates an auto number "tracref" which it adds onto the line where the user is inputting the rest of their information. The relationship is set as all alike between xrf and lease tracts to input in both tables, well the xrf lease num1 is being filled in by the master/child setting but the lease num1 on the lease tract is the only field not autofilling.

I created a navigation form on which I put a form call [frmAnimal Setup].
I then placed one combo box on the Navigation frm Header. I have bound it to its source and it actually queries the tbl and show the right info. However when I select one, it will not let me.
In addition, [frmanimal setup] will not allow me to select a breed although it does query the tbl and shows the right information.

Hello,
I am rather new to Access and looking for some help with my table. I have a report that I do, that I used to do in Excel and was wondering if it was setup right or if there was a better way of doing it.
From looking around I noticed that people usually have mulitple tables and such, while mine is all in one. I see there is a table analyzer but am not sure if I should use that, or what the importance of having it split up.
I have attached my table in XML if anyone wants to share opinions on how they would set it up or what they would do.
Is there a bad thing to having it all in one table?

Hi guys,
I'm trying to create a simlpe database that is use to store time worked for clients (see attached).
If you run the form frmClientEntry i have two issues.
1 - you will see that the title is automatically selected from the combo box. However is i try and enter the form I'm told 'You cannot add or change a record because a related record is required in table 'tblTitle'. If I select one of the entries I get rid of this. I would like the default to be selected...
2 - There is no entry in the hourly rate column field even though there is an entry in the table. How do I get my hourly rate to show? Ideally this will only be a single text box and not a comboBox as the hourly rate will be the same for every client.
If this is a table design issue please let me know and I'll post there.

I have a Combobox so the enduser can search and select items for the form below it rather than clicking the arrows for Next/Previous.However I have an issue with DLookup queries.My Combobox is called 'F_ComboBox' (I use F_ in my forms to indicate it's a form textfield and not from a table).My first field in the form, called 'F_ProdID', I want it to select the rows ID from the Combobox option selected. So it's simply:=[F_ComboBox]Which works fine, it shows the ID for what I selected... but when I do this to show my ProductName...=DLookup([ProductName], 'Products', [ProdID] = [F_ComboBox])Or the same but using the first textfield:=DLookup([ProductName], 'Products', [ProdID] = [F_ProdID])It loads once but if I select another item out of the Combobox it doesn't change, it just stays on the last result. So the query works, just doesn't refresh when a new item is picked from the ComboBox.Am I doing something wrong?Thanks,Nick.

Hello all. Hope I describe my problem correctly. :D
I have a near complete database with forms linking to tables. Tables have relationships with keys set to ref. integrity/cascade records.
Here is the problem -
My forms are meant for people to input data into these tables. However, I do not want them to change those keys.
Problem 1) If I set primary/foreign keys to "autonumber" I cannot get the relationships to recognize ref. integrity and the records will not cascade, and will not update.
Problem 2) If I set primary/foreign keys to "double integer" then if someone enters a new record into the forms, it is recorded as "zero" when it should be updating in numerical order (I have 479 records in the database, so the next new record should be 480).
Problem 3) If I change it any other way - from double integer or auto number, the tables do not update at all, or do not update correctly.
What is going on here? I thought creating forms was a fairly simple task - create the form, it is related to the table, update the form, it updates the table. I mean, duh. :confused:

currently using 2010 version.
Made some tables with data, then wanted to filter it by form with comboboxes approx 10 of them, so started to write a simple query but it doesn't really work. Then I found this forum and when started to review some threads, noticed that some (most) of you write a query in vba under a button with on_click function.
The question is, what is the correct way of writing a query? Is is a vba code under a button, or is it a code in the actual query?

The system is about a shop which gives credit facilities to its customers and so has to keep track of payments effected by them.
I have 3 tables: Customer, Payment, Balance. The main table is Customer, with primary key CustCode which is an autonumber. It keeps personal details of the customers. The Payment table keeps details of payments effected by the customers and the Balance table keeps the overall balance for each customer. The relationships are as follows:
Customer to Payment, 1-to-many
Customer to Balance, 1-to-1
Fields in Payment table: CustCode, PaymentDate, AmtPaid
Fields in Balance table: CustCode, Balance
Problem 1
I have a data entry form for Customer. When I create a new customer record, I want a new record automatically created as well for the customer in the Balance table. How can I do that?
Problem 2
I need to produce a report on customers who have not made any payments during the previous month. I’d like to know how to do that as well.

Ok, what i have is a form on which a user has an Option Group for selection on which records are shown (consumable and Non-consumable), also on the form is a combo box which reads from Table Asset Categories. However what i want to do is allow this combo box to read from another table depending on which option is selected in the Option Group. ie change its Table and row source, but i can't figure this out. I thought something in the region of:
If Me.OptionGroup = 0 then recordsource = "Asset Categories"
Else RecordSource = "Consumable Categories"
End IF

I am currently building a database for the company I work for that is fairly similar to the Northwind Database; however it is made from scratch so hopefully some of the common problems with that database won't find their way into mine.My problem is that when I go to my Orders form, I pick a customer from the main form, which creates a record on the Orders table. When I then go to the subform to choose a product/line item, I get the error in my title ("The LinkMasterFields property setting has produced this error: 'The object doesn't contain the Automation object 'OrdersT.") as soon as a product is chosen from the drop down list.

I have a continuous form that is using a select query to populate all of the bound controls. The drop downs and text boxes are displaying the values from the correct places. But, the form is not updating in the places I expected.
The select query that is being used to populate, combines information from 3 tables.'TimeEntries' table (the one that I want records to be updated in). This holds employee ID, and numeric values for Project Name and Project Task.
'ProjectInfo' table (nothing should be updated here). This table holds other details about the project (ex. Project Name) that is used to populate a combo box.
'ProjectTasks' table (nothing should be updated here either). This table holds details about project task (ex. Task Description) that is used to populate a combo box.
The issue I am having is that when records are updated on the form, they are adding records to all 3 tables that are a part of the query, instead of just updating the time entries table.

I have been having issues with a subform on the attached database - for some reason it is not always updating to show corresponding records.
What I am planning, this is effectively going to be an interactive learning portal which can test users as well. There will be learning material (not yet included) and a bank of questions with corresponding multiple-choice answers, only one of which is correct. Each time the main form is loaded (Cat1MainForm) it randomly selects and orders questions, then, via a sub-form, returns three potential answers. There will then be radio buttons with which the users can answer appropriately.
If you load up Cat1MainForm and scroll through various questions you will see that sometimes the answers appear, other times not. Sometimes on one record the answers are there, you navigate away and back, and they have disappeared, and vice-versa.

I am using Access 2007 with Windows XP. I have a scatter chart embedded in a form that is plotting data from a subform with a trendline that is extracted and used on the form for calculations. After having the table set up correctly and running fine, I closed the database and then reopened it to have the table plotting the data in a made up 1 to 1 relationship rather than what is in the datasheet. The only way I have been able to fix this error is to change the chart type to something else then back to a scatter plot and remake the trendline. Why this is happening and how to prevent it?

I have a form based on tblContact with a subform based on table tblCategories, and another subform based on tblCompany. I have a one-to-many relationship between tblCategories and tblCompany, with the pk in tblCategory linking with a fk in tblCompany. All of the fields in tblCategories/ sbfrm Categories are yes/no fields, not sure if that plays into my problem at all.
When a user checks one or more of the check boxes in the categories subform, closes the form and re-opens it, none of the check boxes are checked for that person. I know this has something to do with the relationships and how the categories are linked to the contact... but I can't get it straight in my mind as to how that should be set up.

I have created a piece of code that filters a sub form of diary records using criteria the user has selected or entered. It was working fine when I made it a month or so ago and now is seems to be returning incorrectly filtered records, for example, I enter 2 dates to return all diary entries between the 2 dates. Yet it misses some records out that should be within the date range, and it sometimes include records that are outside the date range. I am also getting an error when I try and filter the diary entries via the supplier, "data type mismatch", here's the code that, bearing in mind, was previously working fine.
