I've two tables, QA (Quality Assurance) and Instruments. I'm using form to add data to QA.
There's a field in QA, named InstrumentUsed. The criteria is that InstrmentUsed should only accept value when 'status' field in Instruments table shows 'working'. If status is 'faulty' or 'need repair', it should pop up the related error message and cursor stays on the same field.
I've not starting learning VBA yet, so I'm trying to make use of Macro's.
How to use data from another table as a validation criteria for a field in form?
Pops up a MessageBox and stays on the same field, on the form, unless error is resolved?
I'm trying to write a query that will validate a field in an existing table. I want the query to show where any of the 412,000 records fail this strict validation:
AAnnnnnnA
...where A is any letter A-Z and n is a digit 0-9
Clearly I can use the LEN function to check for invalid lengths (anything <>9), but I'm looking for a simple neat expression I can use that will check the format. Does an existing function already exist before I resort to writing my own function in VBA (again)?
I have a textbox on a subform to allow a delivery qty to be entered (to allow me to cater for part deliveries). I have a query which totals up the values of this field (so that I have a total of all the deliveries for this record) and compares that value against another field (to check that the total deliveries I have entered do not total more than the ordered qty). I am using this query within the "Validation Rule" of the textbox. My problem is that when I enter the values for the first time this works fine because the figures are not yet part of the query and therefore the check works fine, however if I try to modify a figure I've already entered it triggers the validation each time because it tries to add the new value to the query total.
I have little bit problem in access here, if i want to create two textbox... first textbox for time and second textbox for unit. When I type (time) in first textbox, second textbox will appear automatically the unit number...
Example
1textbox-----------2textbox
1<time<=60 ------- 1 unit 60<time<=120 ------ 2 unit 120 < time <= 180 ------- 3 unit
I just started my project database on my subject ITM4. My Database is entitled PCExpress Inventory System. I would like to know how to input (Text) in a Field where the Data Type is (Number) just like the North Wind.
I have a multivalue text field called "Groups" that is generated through a relationship with another table called "Comments". When I set this up I left the field as a text field when it should have been a number field, and now I can't use the database with sharepoint, because the field needs to be a number field.
My Question is there a way to convert it without loosing all my data, as there are over 5000 records?
My Table with the multivalue field is called "Contacts", the field is called "Groups".
I tried update and append queries but I must be doing something wrong....
Is there a way to add a validation rule in an access form on an unbound text box. This box is currently doing a calculation of others. If the figure is not between 0 And 0.3125 then I do not want the user to be able to move on. For some reason if I enter "Between 0 And 0.3125" in the validation rule it doesn't seem to do anything. I can only assume its because its an unbound text box. Data attached please see Frm_Input and text box total standard hours.
my problem seems to be very familiar to the one in this thread :

Basically I have a list of tables in one combo box. I want the user to select which table. ( The tables are stock information, each table for each different day of the stockmarket)
Then they select the Stock they want to look at. ( These are the same in all the tables obviously, so it is the same in the drop down box)
NOW, the bit i'm struggling with. Is for a textbox below to show the value found IN the table name selected, with the stock selected. How would i do this in SQL, or VBA with SQL.
I have a form that users put in information and then it updates to a table. It works fine but i would like to add something. Right now there is a text box called item that the user puts in the item number. The problem is that sometimes they put in a wrong number. What i would like to do is have it when they hit the update button to compare that item number to a table that lists all of them. so if the text box doesnt equal one of the numbers in the table dbo_item and the field itm_num, i want it to give them a message box with an error.
What I want is the following: If [status] field = "Complete" then [completion date] cannot be null.
I don't know if doing this in a table of the form is best using the forms Before Update Event, but I am having trouble figuring how to write it using the expression builder.
I have 4 fields that are unbound on a form. img1 img2 img3 img4..When these are entered they are all combined and autofill another unbound textbox = imagename.. what i would like to do is from this unbound textbox 'imagename' ..i would like to populate a textbox that IS bound called FileName
[Event Procedure] Private Sub imagename_Click() Me.imagename = Me.FileName End Sub
instead of providing validation at the client side or in the server script.... cant i provide validation in the tables fields... I have a field named YearID, datatype text..
But I want to allow only text like this ==> e.g. 'F-00' 'F-01'
Do I have to put any format property... please do help... thank u.
I have a form that contains a combo box (cboEmployeeName) that pulls data from a query and populates three text boxes (Work Area, Last Name, First Name), This part works fine. Because the text boxes are being populated by the Combo box, they are not bound to the record source tblTrainingSchedule). I need the info that is in the text boxes to populate the respective fields in the record source.
I tested by adding "=tblTrainingSchedule!WorkArea=[cboEmployeeName].Column(3)" (column 3 is the work area) to the "after update" control but it does not populate the data.
Does anyone know if its possible to base a validation rule on the data that is already in the field in a table?
e.g. there are 10 records in a table each with an ID number starting at 1 and going up to 10. When new record added i need a validation rule that will prompt the user to enter a number greater than the previous number entered for the ID.
I have tried several ways to validate my data with existing table I've developed.
Actually, I want the access to validate the data (Cellphone number) I've entered in the textbox by looking it in the existing table. So, if the data is there in the table, the message will pop up such as.. "Please continue". But if not, the message should be "this number was not registered yet.." and the textbox will be empty and ready for the new number...
I have a form which people fill in (made up of fields from Table1) to record when sick days.
On the form, they have to enter the "week commencing" (which is set at Medium Date format); then they have to enter in a first day (which is set at Short Date format).
The First Day should be no more than 7 days from the date that they enter in the Week commencing field on the form.
I want an error message to pop up if they do this, for example:
Week commencing: 1st April 2007 First Day: 10th April 2007
(because the 10th April 2007 is more than 7 days from the 1st April). But it would be ok if they did this:
Week commencing: 1st April 2007 First Day: 8th April 2007
This is pretty simple but I need to place a validation rule in my table for a field so that users can only enter data that starts with APB. What would the rule be?
DLookup function. (this is for a stamp collection database).
On my form ("InventoryInput") I have a text box called "Catalog" for a numeric entry and a text combo box for selecting a "Country" in drop down list.
I want to query a table called "CatNameList" to get the "StampName" of the item (based on the entries of Catalog and Country) and populate that name in the text box. The fields in this table are called "StampName", "CatNumb" & "CName" respectively.
I have successfully placed the following expression in the control source of that textbox and able to populate the StampName I need based solely on the catalog number alone.
That express is : =DLookUp("StampName", "CatNameList", "CatNumb = Form![Catalog]")
So it will populate the "StampName" data to match the "Catalog" number entry just fine.
However, I need to add a second layer to incorporate the Country.
Example : There is a catalog "1" for "USA", and a catalog "1" for "Canada" but both have different "StampName".
I have been attempting to get that second piece added with no success. Here is the expression I have been trying to get to work :
Right now, the text box is just blank with the above expression. I thought it may be because there was no match found, but I have triple checked to ensure I have the spelling correct on the country name in both places.
Basically, I just need the dlookup to take the "catalog" and "country" off the form and match it to the "CatNameList" table fields of "CatNumb" and "CName" to give me "StampName" field back on the form.
When I learnt to use vba in excel (to basic level) I was always advised in a userform to validate data at end of record input i.e. when pressing enter and next. Is this true also with access or should i be putting validation rules at the afterupdate stage of a particular control?
I'm new to access so I thought this would be easier than it is. I have a list of cities in a simple table . I want use this list (or a query of it) to create a validation rule for a field in a second table "City". How, either with VBA or some other method do I use the Cities database to validate entry. These tables are both in the same project.
I am wanting a text field in a table to accept only chars A - Z
In my validation rule I use
Like "a" Or "b" Or "c" Or "d" Or "e" Or "f" Or "g" Or "h" Or "i" Or "j" Or "k" Or "l" Or "m" Or "n" Or "o" Or "p" Or "q" Or "r" Or "s" Or "t" Or "u" Or "v" Or "w" Or "x" Or "y" Or "z"
Which works :D
Then validation text I use
Enter Alphabetical Letters only
Also works :D
Is there any short way to write Like A.....thorugh to Z without the long statement?
