Forms :: Unbound Combo Box Populate Fields Linked Tables
Jul 18, 2014
I have form with an unbound combo box which is populated from a query
It should populate a field in a table which is related to another - however it only works when i query by id number (primary key) and not the text value i want - is it possible to query both so it returns say 1,option 1 - then when selected it will place a 1 in the table - which is related to option 1 in another table instead of just having to select '1' which will mean nothing to a user?
I am populating a table using combo boxes in a continuous form. The box box alone works fine without any issue of repeated data. But as you know obviously the combo box only populates data in a single column of the table, in which case mine is the LASTNAME; so now I am attempting to populate a unbound textbox with the FIRSTNAME side-by-side with the combo box for the same record.
In the After Update event of the cboLASTNAME:
Code: Me.txtFIRSTNAME = Me.cboLASTNAME.Column(3)
However, after updating the the combo the textbox data is repeated.
Is there any particular reason I would choose to use
DoCmd.RunSQL "insert into...
Versus
CurrentDb.Execute "insert into.... ??
I am using an unbound form on the front end of my database to populate the backend tables (multiple tables). Some forms only have a few fields, while other forms have about 15 fields with 3-4 tables updating.
I am okay using the DoCmn.RunSQL , but I keeping reading on the forum that others chose CurrentDB.Execute and it has me thinking.
My database is stored on a network drive with only on front end.
I have a tabbed form from which the user can select a contact's record from a subform on the first tab, click a edit command button, and the unbound text boxes on the top of that tab populate. The user can then click the second tab with employment history which has blank unbound text boxes and another subform which is linked by the contact id to the first tab.
The user can select a record in the second tab, click a command button and the text boxes populate no problem. The problem comes when the user changes the contact on the first tab, and then tries to edit a record on the second tab. Then I get a run-time error '-2147352567 (80020009)' saying the value you entered isn't valid for this field. Why it would work the first time by not the second?
I have a combo box on a form that shows 3 columbs from tblparts in the drop down, I wish to select one row from the drop down, that will enter the selected data in three fields on the form.
For example my form has three fields "part code", "Description", "cost".
Part Code = combo box Description = Text Box Cost = Text box
I want to select the data from the combo drop down to populate all three boxes.
Can sombody please help, as I have been stuck on this all afternoon. Cheers
Trying to update fields (bound) on a form (built using the wizard) from value selected in a combo box. I can get this to work with unbound text boxes using an After Update event handler and a code query along the lines of:
Me!TxtJobCode1 = Me!CboJobDesc.Column(1)
But this doesn't work where the form field is bound to a table.
So qu is - how do I achieve the same result using table fields instead of text boxes?
I could use text boxes but not sure then how I can save that data as a record in the table if it is not bound to fields.
I have several comboboxes (6) on my form. How to populate these comboboxes with values depending on selected value in previous combobox.
Example.Lets say that you select value "Audi" in combobox 1, then available values in combobox 2 should be "A4","A6","TT" etc. and if you selected "BMW" in combobox 1, then available values in combobox 2 should be "3-series", "5-series" etc...
I am trying to build a form in the MoldReq section so when the user selects the mold number(combo box) it will auto populate the Part_Name and Part_No fields by pulling the data from the Molds table.
I have tried following this video where I create a change event:
Code: Private Sub cboCombo31_Change() Me.txtPart_Name.Value = Me.cboMold_No.Column(3) Me.txtPart_No.Value = Me.cboMold_No.Column(4) End Sub
I am using Access 2007 and have reviewed many blogs and looked at the Northwind db to try to solve this problem. I would like to create a form that functions in the same manner as the "Order Details" form in the Northwind db. Specifically, I want to create a form that will allow me to input a value and have the form get data from another table and populate the table I need populated.
I would like to populate a table "Outside", field names are Key, Name, term, Value, Date.
The table that contains the data is named "CV" and the filed names are Key, Name.
In the form, I would like to enter a value for Key into a combo box, and have it put the value for Key and for Name into the form, and allow me to enter whatever I want to in the Term, Value and Date field. When I tab out, I would like all this data to be in the table "Outside.
need to create a database for work. there would be a way to select an id based on a previous table and have parts of it populate in this new table.
For example:
Table A - Webinars (Webinar ID, Webinar Title and Client) Table B - Sessions (Session ID, Date, Webinar Title, Time, Facilitator, Session Occurred, Reason, Conference Call) [Webinar Title I used a look up field and just select the corresponding Webinar Title and it works nicely] Table C - Users (User ID, Status, Prefix, Last Name, First Name, Email Address, Component, Role and State) Table D - Registrants (User ID, Session Date, Webinar Title, Attended).
So in Table D I would like to add Role and Component, so when I select User ID #1 the Role and Component Field populate with the info based on Table C.
My database will be creating quotes based on employees entries. Each quote will be unique because of the part. Each part has the potential to have Precious Metals, and Base Metals included. The employee must select the number Precious Metals and Base Metals that a particular part has. The problem lies with what happens after this selection is made. There are three fields that need to be defined pertaining to each metal. I need the number selected to determine how many fields to make available. If there are two precious metals, I need to make the three fields available twice; one for both metals. I have the possibility for up to 5 Precious Metals and 10 Base Metals per part. How can I make the selection from a combo box populate that number of Metals Fields?
Using DAO recordset, table enters unbound fields data properly for desired records, but adds an extra record which is a duplicate of the first record entered....any known access quirks for adding unwanted records?
I have a table called Jobslog which contains records for my permanent jobs I have to do for customers in one week.Structure is like:
JobID TeamID DayName JobDescription Instructions
Each job is assigned to a team, but is following same schedule every week. Can I create like a module or query to autopopulate the table with next week jobs, but putting the date as well, not only day name. For example, each Monday job should have a date field which should be 8/12/2014, Tuesday jobs should have 9/12/2014 and so on until Sunday.Usualy they are more jobs for each day (not day and job).
To make it simple, I have a list of contact names and their email. I want to have a form with no control source and have 2 simple drop down boxes for their Name and their Email. What I would like to happen is the user choose a name from the drop down in field 1 and then the field below auto-populate their email in field 2. I understand I can use conditional IF/THEN and list out each email, but the contact list is ever changing, so I want to first drop down to link to the TblContacts, have the user pick the name from the list and then have the 2nd field autopopulate from that same TblContacts with their email respective to the Name entered in field 1. My form has two field [Traveler] and [Email]...The tblContacts two fields are [Name] and [Email]
I have split a database, then realised that I needed to change two fields in a form. Y/N field and Text field.
I went into the backed database changed the fields to be Required but in the front end it doesn't seem to work? I haven't tried re-linking them but should I need to?
I have a table tROE with a field listing all dates starting 1/1/10 to date (populated), and three fields for currency exchange rates [USD], [RSD] & [EUR] which are empty and need to be populated. I have another table tROEPartial that has the exchange rates for some of the dates starting 1/1/10 but not all. Their structures are identical. I want to add the exchange rates from tROEPartial to tROE where the dates match, leaving the unmatched fields in tROE blank.
Ive got a database with a combo box, called "combo1" (with 2 columns). It is unbound but uses a query as its row source. When i select a value in combo1 is places the data from combo1.column(1) into a textbox (text1). I then click the next record button (button1) and it then keeps the same value in combo1 because it is unbound. So i need it that when i go to the next record it displays the value in combo1 that relates to text1.
Is there an easy way to auto-populate a Junction table [in access 2010] given the following two tables with a many-to-many relationship for Tasks? The two tables are
I have a form that I would like to have blank fields when it is opened. I put the following in the "On Open" Event field of the form properties:
Private Sub Form_Open(Cancel As Integer) DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNewRec End Sub
However, it does not work. I have an unbound combo box on the form for users to select from, in which all the records on the form will populate with whatever is selected in the unbound combo box. I thought this was the problem at first, but even if I remove that from the form, the form still opens to the first record. If I set the "Data Entry" field to "Yes" on the Data tab, that works, but then none of the fields populate when using the combo box.
I have a database consisting of three linked tables, with ID as unique identifier (primary key).
I would have expected the data type for my unique identifier, especially in the main table, to be Autonumber. However, I discovered with some surprise that the primary key (ID) in
Table 1 (Main table) is data type: number, field size: double
whereas in table 2 and table 3 the ID is data type: autonumber (field size: long integer)
It must have happend "SOMEHOW" when I divided the original single table.
Is this as it should be? Or could it lead to trouble later on?
If not as should be, is there anything I can do right now to rectify the situation with risking upsetting the relationships and all?
What precautions should I take, apart from taking a backup?
I have a form with a field that has formula for calculation. However, I am unable to link the field to the table since the control source is my formula. How can I that field to a table?
