Forms :: Updating Cost Without Changing Previous Records

Apr 11, 2014

I have this estimate database for a construction company. In this database I calculate how much will a project cost. It's pretty much complete the only problem that I have is trying to figure out how to update the cost of a trade without affecting older records

Example let's say we have a painter that makes $15/hr in project A,B,C,D,E we decide to give him a raise so project F would have a new amount for painter. The problem with that is that it will affect record A-E

I don't want that my department wants to go back and view a history of records. Also take a look at my database it's my first time creating one ...

Auto Updating Total Order Cost After Quantity Is Changed

Oct 11, 2006

Ok so here is my problem:
I have a form that is realted to four differnt tables with the names: CUSTOMER, ORDER, PRODUCT AND ORDER LINE. With-in the table Order-Line there is a entity called, line_item_cost whcih is the total amount of the order with respect to Quanity_Ordered which comes from the ORDER LINE table and Price which comes from the PRODUCT table and Discount (%) which comes from the CUSTOMER table. When the users goes to change the Quantity_Ordered I need the form to automaticly update the line_item_cost which would calculate [Price]*[Quantity_Ordred]-[Price]*[Discount] . I tried to build a code in VBA to do this, Here is the Code:
Dim a, b, c, d
a = Me.[Quantity_Ordered]
b = Me.[Price]
c = Me.[Discount]
d = a * b - b* c
Me.[Line_Item_Cost] = d

VBA Complies the program but it does not show up in my form.
I think I might be updating it at the wrong point.
Any Suggestions.????

Forms :: Combo Box Not To Show Previous Records Already Selected?

Apr 27, 2014

I have a form that has four combo boxes on it that enable the user to select entrants in a golf tournament for tee off times and tee. (I have attached part of this database to this post) It all works fine but after selecting the first player in the first combo box and then selecting the second combo player I would like the player selected previously not to show up. Is this possible or do I have to rethink the way players are selected.

Forms :: Populating Forms From Previous Records?

Jan 26, 2015

I am following mice and am trying to build a form that lets me add a new mouse to the database. I want to be able to either enter the the unique mouse id of the mother if I know it or be taken to another form that lets me identify the mother from the females already in my system. I know this is possible because I have seen examples of it where, in the find mother form, I give the strain name in a combo box which narrows down the selection of mice in the DOB combo box which in turn narrows down the unique mouse id which is the information I really want. I then want to carry that id back to the original form to enter it as the mother id.

In an ideal world the database would recognize this id being put in for a mother and note in the mothers record that she has had a litter. The litter id, which I am currently composing of motherid&fatherid&DOB, would go into the mothers record.

Forms :: Changing Multiple Records At Once

May 13, 2014

i have a splitview form that has a sub form which is a continuous form. On the continuous form there is a start and end date for each record. i would like to be able to change all the start dates on the continuous form by selecting a date once and hitting update or something like that.

so what i have going on is i have designers building scaffolds and adding articles to the scaffold (thus the continuous list) then a few months down the road the site planner will schedule the scaffold to be built and torn down. this will be done on this split form noted above. once that is done i need to have a date and an action applied to each article in the scaffold because i need to track usage of all the material per peice on a job site.

Forms :: When Clicked Form Opens To Blank Record And Won't Show Previous Records

May 6, 2015

I've recently decided to move a database that had all its information on 1 table and divided it into multiple tables.

Attached is the relationship as well as the form.

The issue I have is that when I click the form, it only shows a blank record with none of previous records.

Data entry is already set to NO. I'm wondering if it's an issue with my relationships, tblStudioDescription is the parent table and the others are child tables so I linked them with the ID and set referential integrity.

Forms :: Changing Y / N Field On All Records In A Table

Aug 12, 2014

I am creating a database where I will select recipes from one table and then create a shopping list through related ingredients from another table. I want to be able to clear all selected recipes before I start a new class.

For example, I have 100 recipes and am using 10 this week, but next week i am using a different 10. To create a new grocery list I want to clear all of this week's selected recipes before selecting the new bunch of recipes.

Is there a way (I am assuming a macro would be used) to insert a command button that would change all y/n values of the recipes table to no?

I need to input the info in a form and have it saved in fields in each Lease at one time.

Right now I have to goto each lease and insert it every time one by one. the field for each lease is the Vol/Page field. is their a way I can do this without having to goto each lease one at a time.??????? in other words one title opinion might be the same for ten of the leases I need to update these all at once.

Updating A Field Based On Previous Record

Apr 3, 2008

I'm trying to update an imported table from an excel spreadsheet with missing details. The table's records are in order so I just need to fill in a blank field with data based on the previous one as shown.

ID Name Location
1 Bob London
2 Larry
3 Harry
4 Jerry Glasgow
5 Paul
6 John Southampton

I need to fill in the location blanks simply with the last location details, so records 2 and 3 with London and 5 with Glasgow. Is this easily done or would I need to pull all the data into an array and work on it there?

I've tried searching for an answer but haven't had any luck.

Moving Through Records And Updating Sub Forms

Jan 23, 2006

hi all,

I have this database I'm working on and have a couple of issues I can't work out.

The first is this, I want to have my sub forms go to the last record when moving through the main form, currently I can only get this to work when I open the form?

If I move through the records in my main form (forward and backwards), the two sub forms go to the first record only, so how can I get them to go to the last recor?

I've attached the DB to show you what I mean.
Thanks in advance
Tez

Forms :: Updating Records When Using Subforms

May 10, 2014

I created a new form with two subforms. They each reference their own table but are linked by a field called Case_Name. I created a unbound combo box in the main form to allow filtering of the records based on Case_name and I do a requery when the record is found. I am importing data from another application into the three tables ( main with other fields, as well as other tables ..Case_Name only).

The form/subforms are then used to modify or add new data to the existing records in each table/subform. The problem I have is when I go to update/add data in the subforms, it comes back and tells me that it cannot add data due to data integrity. It thinks I am trying to add a new record with the same Case_Name. I have the forms and subforms set up as Data Entry = No so that no new records can be added. I only want to modify existing data as the records are created from the import process.

Forms :: Changing Data Entry Value To False To Edit Records

Mar 19, 2013

I have the main form open up where the Data entry is set to YES so it opens in New Field. I created a button to change the value of form's Data Entry to NO. It works. Changed the form so I can navigate through entered fields. I have created a drop down to filter a specific field "Claim#" and it will open that entry.

The drop down only works if I set the default form's Data Entry to NO. Dropdown works and I can select Claim#. But if I open the form with DataEntry set to Yes, and I click on the button to change the value to NO, the form changes but the drop down field does not pull up the proper information. The button code is.

Private Sub EditButton_Click()
Form_MainForm.Form.DataEntry = False
End Sub

The Claim drop down has this event after update

Private Sub ClaimSearch_AfterUpdate()
Me.Requery
End Sub

I'm missing something. Like I said, it works without having the button change the value.

Forms :: Updating Multiple Records On A Screen?

Feb 12, 2014

I have a screen with multiple records from a database. At the top of the screen I have a button that lets the user change the mode between read only and edit modes. The current mode is displayed near the button. When the user decides to update a record or records he goes into the edit mode and starts changing the records. The user may change any number of records on the screen. When editing is finished he presses a button called save and close gets feedback and leaves the screen. Now in this process how do I keep track of the records that are changed on the screen . Plus he can hit the page down key and go to the next page and make changes there also. Is it possible to stop the hitting of the page down key. What indicators can I use to spot the records changed?

Forms :: Get Part Value From Postcode To Create Cost

Mar 26, 2014

I have a form which has a number of fields and 2 of them are called [Postcode] and [Cost].

The cost field is defaulted to "£75.00"

What I am trying to is after the user enters the postcode it looks at the first and second value and if they enter a postcode in Scotland like below it changes the cost field accordingly.

The changes will only effect postcodes in Scotland if that makes sense as we have 2 different pricing areas for these

examples of some postcodes
AB1 1AU £125.00
EH1 1RT £85.00
G1 1AT £85.00
IV5 1ER £125.00
ML1 1RT £85.00
and so on

so any postcode containing the following would update

AB = 125
EH = 85
G = 85
IV = 125
ML = 85
DD = 85
FK = 125
etc etc

all other postcodes in the uk will show the default value of £75.00

Forms :: Adding Records - Tabbed Subforms Not Updating

Oct 10, 2014

I have a form with a tabbed area, each tab containing a subform. One of these subforms adds records to a table. Another subform shows the totals from that table.

But when I add records, the totals tab is not updated with the new quantities unless I close the form completely and go back in. I tried adding Me.Dirty = False to the subform that adds the records but that makes no difference.

It seems as though the 'totals' subform gets those values as the form is loaded and does not change, even when records are added and then that tab is selected.

How can I get the totals subform to show the updated totals?

Forms :: Subform Not Updating Correctly To Show Corresponding Records

Aug 26, 2014

I have been having issues with a subform on the attached database - for some reason it is not always updating to show corresponding records.

What I am planning, this is effectively going to be an interactive learning portal which can test users as well. There will be learning material (not yet included) and a bank of questions with corresponding multiple-choice answers, only one of which is correct. Each time the main form is loaded (Cat1MainForm) it randomly selects and orders questions, then, via a sub-form, returns three potential answers. There will then be radio buttons with which the users can answer appropriately.

If you load up Cat1MainForm and scroll through various questions you will see that sometimes the answers appear, other times not. Sometimes on one record the answers are there, you navigate away and back, and they have disappeared, and vice-versa.

Updating/changing Hyperlinks

Mar 13, 2006

Here's a tip for anyone trying to update or change a series of existing hyperlinks: you can use the >edit>replace feature on the menu to make changes to multiple records, BUT first you need to change the field type to text. Access shows only the display part of the hyperlink in a table when the field type is set as hyperlink, but the actual link info is hidden. If you change the field type to text the hidden link appears, and you can use replace to make the changes you want. Be sure to set the length of the text field to 250 before making the change. When you're done just change the field type back to hyperlink, and you're good to go.

For example, we had dozens of hyperlinks to documents in folders listed by months. When we moved all of the February documents to March, i had to update all of the hyperlinks. I change the hyperlink field type to text, did a replace search on 'February 2006' (any part of the field) and change it to 'March 2006'. The I switched the field type back to hyperlink. I didn't find anything on this procedure after searching the forums, so I thought I'd pass it along.

Forms :: Summing Up In Continuous Form - Total Sell And Cost Value

Sep 8, 2014

I'm adding to a DB which has been working well for a while.

I have a continuous form which has a query behind it. The query takes two values: (For example)

[LineCost] and [LineQTY]

Inside the query, we use the expression TLC: [LineCost] * [LineQTY]

I need to sum this so a Sale with several lines gives me the total sell and cost value.

If you look at the sfrmEditQuote - you'll see the exact same method - working. sfrmEditSale is direct copy of this form, with some changes here and there. But can I get past the dreaded #error? Nope.

I've tried renaming the fields and text boxes, checking the query, but I keep getting #error on the sfrmEditSale form footer.

I have attached the DBs in old and new format.

What I want to do is select multiple records with the mouse, then click a command button opening a form in dialog mode with the selection list. The user then clicks to make his selections and clicks ok, which then updates the multi-select field for the selected records.

Updating A Field After Changing Or Adding Record

Jan 6, 2005

I have a text field "Record Last Updated" on a form formatted for date/time that I would like to update after a record is changed or added. So for every change or addition the field would update to the current date. The code I am currently trying to use is as follows:

'Assign current system date to Last Updated field if change of data occurs in any field
For Each ctl In Me.Form.Controls

If (ctl.ControlType = acTextBox) Or (ctl.ControlType = acComboBox) _
Or (ctl.ControlType = acListBox) Then
If Nz(ctl, "") = ctl.OldValue Then

Else
txtLastUpdated.Value = Date
End If
End If
Next ctl

This executes in the forms After_Update event procedure.
Problem is I get an error 3020 "Update or CancelUpdate without AddNew or Edit" when moving to the next record ? I have tried using .Edit and .Update but those come up as an invalid reference?
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
