Forms :: Why To Undo Edits After Changed Records In A Form

Jul 22, 2013

I thought "Undo" was only available while in the current record.Here were my steps:

1 - Loaded form that shows 1 record per form page.
2 - Edited a record
3 - Moved to another record with status bar nav arrow
4 - Verified my edit was in the underlying table
5 - Moved back to the original record, again using status bar nav arrow
6 - Clicked my "undo" control and the original data appeared in the form
7 - Moved to another record
8 - Verified my original data was now back in the underlying table

My undo control has this vba on click:

Code:
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdUndo

Can't Get Undo To Work On A Changed Field

Sep 27, 2005

Could someone look at my code and tell me why my “Me.TargetDate.Undo” won’t work?

First, let me say that the TargetDate field has an On-Click event that calls a module written by Allen Browne), which is shown below and works great.

=CalendarFor([TargetDate],"Select a date from the calendar ")

What happens is that the Me.TargetDate.Undo event always keeps the date selected in the calendar.

Based on something I read from Rual Guy on another issue, I’ve used the TargetDate_LostFocus routine to check for some additional data entry errors. I’ve tried moving the code in “Private Sub TargetDate_Exit(Cancel As Integer)” to the LostFocus, but it doesn’t make any difference to the Undo. I’ve also tried “I’ve tried “Private Sub TargetDate_Change(),Me.Undo…” but that doesn’t work either. :confused:

Private Sub TargetDate_Enter()

If Not IsNull(Me.TargetDate) Then
OldTarget = Me.TargetDate
End If

End Sub

Private Sub TargetDate_Exit(Cancel As Integer)

If Not IsNull(Me.TargetDate) Then
If DateDiff("d", Me.DateOpened, Me.TargetDate) < 0 Then
MsgBox "You have selected a date that is before…bla bla"
Me.TargetDate.Undo
Me.TargetDate.SetFocus
ElseIf DateDiff("d", Date, Me.TargetDate) < 0 Then
MsgBox "You have selected a date that is prior to today's date…bla bla"
Me.TargetDate.Undo
Me.TargetDate.SetFocus
ElseIf Weekday(Me.TargetDate) = 1 Or Weekday(Me.TargetDate) = 7 Then
MsgBox "You have selected a date that falls on a weekend..bla bla"
Me.TargetDate.Undo
Me.TargetDate.SetFocus
End If
End If
End Sub

Private Sub TargetDate_LostFocus()
If Me.TargetDate > OldTarget And Me.cboAssignToID <> OldAssignee Then
MsgBox "The target date can only be changed if …bla bla"
Me.TargetDate.Undo
Me.TargetDate.SetFocus
End If
End Sub

Ever thankful for this forum,
Christine

Forms :: Apply Filter To Form And Allow User To Do Edits

Jan 10, 2015

I'm creating a database about Vets and I need to make a button on my menu form that will open something like message box that will allow me to type in something (in my case Customer ID) which will then apply the filter on the customer form and allow me to do edits. I have only done the macro that will open the customer form but can't figure out how to do the filter part.

Forms :: Undo All Changes To Form And Subform?

Sep 25, 2013

I have some forms where I can cancel my input. However this works only on the current record. When I implement a subform this does not work anymore. Because access auto saves when focus is set to the subform.

I don't wan't to use unbound forms. What I would like to do is when I press EDIT that a snapshot or something is taken of the current values. So I can set them back.

I can use variables for the main form, but I don't know how to save the values of the records of the subform.

Or does the possibility exist to use transactions?

I just want to be able to undo all changes regardless of the subforms.

Forms :: Undo Only One Field On A Form?

Jul 14, 2014

I need to program vba to "Undo" only one field on a form, not the entire form. The user enters a number of fields and then tabs to a text field which allows them to enter an 8 digit code. If this code matched one already in the database, I have a message box telling them of the match and offering to either clear the entry or to allow them to go back and edit what they have entered. The 2nd part of this works fine, but I can't figure out how to just clear the text box without clearing the entire form. (the form is bound to a table)

I have tried DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdUndo which clears the entire form.

Me.TextBox.undo does nothing at all.

(a search found several websites that say use Me!TextBox.undo, but that doesn't pass the complier)...

Forms :: Edit Button To Enable Edits On Form And Subform

Sep 22, 2013

I have a form "Handover" on this form I have a button that enables edit functionality once clicked, I now have a subform on this form named "Bdown".

The Bdown subform allows edits without having to click the "btn_Edit" on the main form "Handover".

Is is possible to make the edit button on "Handover" control the edit function on "Bdown" also?

Currently "Handover" contains:

Code:
Private Sub btn_Edit_Click()
Me.AllowEdits = True
Me.btn_Edit.Caption = "Editing"
End Sub

[Code] .....

Forms :: Split Form With Combo Box As Filter Allow Edits False

Sep 6, 2014

I have a simple split form with datasheet on the bottom and a couple of comboboxes (unbound) on the form header which the user can use for filtering the data. When some users open the form the allowedit property of the form is set to false, because those users can only view the records. But the result is that also the comboboxes cannot be set, hence no filtering!

Undo Delete Records

May 2, 2006

Hi,

I have a question.

How can I make undo delete records?

When the user select all the records, and then click "delete" key. Then it will delete all records.

I want to setup that there must be at least 1 record left.

If they select all the records and delete all, then it will undo delete all records. We have to keep at least 1 record.

What command to undo delete all records?

Please let me know, thanks.

Timestamping Changed Records

Aug 24, 2006

Hi,
I'm trying to populate a read-only field on a form with the time and date the record was last changed.
This is to acheive seeing a list of records that have been updated this week for example.
I have this at the moment:-

Private Sub Form_AfterUpdate()
Last_Updated.Value = Now()
End Sub

When I've updated a record it won't save and when I try to move onto the next record it does nothing, the button clicks but no response.
Does anybody have any idea where I'm going wrong or have any suggestions?

Would appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Dan

Modules & VBA :: Renumber Records When One Number Changed?

Jul 11, 2014

I have a table which has 2 fields 1) Project_Priority_Number and 2) Previous_Priority_Number. If there were 100 records these would be numbered 1-100 in the order that the user originally sets the priority (this number is in addition to the record ID number). I have created a form with code that moves the Project_Priority_Number to the Previous_Priority_Number and then shows the Project_Priority_Number as blank and displays all of the records.

The user can then set new priority numbers in the blank column. Say they choose to make the old priority number 4 the new number 3 and priority 27 now becomes say 2, etc. I want the user to press a button that re-numbers the remaining ones based on their old position + or - 1 (basically to fill the gaps but based on their previous positions). I understand how to renumber if one is deleted but I don't know how to be more specific and re-number based both on their previous priority number and whether something else is now set to replace that.

For Example (the following numbers need to re-order based on previous priority 4 becomming the new priority 1 and the previous number 8 becomming 3 - so the previous 1 becomes 2 and then everything after the new 3 moves forward 1):

PROJECT PRIORITY NUMBER PREVIOUS PRIORITY NUMBER
1
2
3
1 4
5
6
7
3 8
9
10

Forms :: Allow Edits In Design Mode

Jan 9, 2015

I have a form which was locked down (ie Allow additions, allow edit and allow deletions were all set to no) on the Form property. I want to change this to allow edits so in design mode I changed the Allow Edits property to Yes.

I then went to Form view and was able to update fields on the form. When I exited the form it asked me if I wanted to save the changes so I clicked yes.

On going back into the form I can no longer update the fields I could before. Going into design mode I can see that Allow edits on the form property is set to no again.

What is happening here. There is nothing in the on load or other events to set this to no, besides this shouldn't change the form property should it?

I know I can get around it my setting the property in the form itself but why is the property getting reset in the first place.

Access 2010.

Tables :: Appending Changed Records To Archive Table?

Aug 21, 2014

I have a single table database for inventory. Every 3 months or so, some records get changed or updated. My manager wants to keep an archive of all of the records that have been changed so we can go back and look at an history of all of the records. So, My thought is to create an "Archive" table, appended all of the current records to it. Then, when changes are made, create an Append Query, or what ever works, to copy just the changed records from the Main to the Archive table. There are only 200 items in the inventory so it is not a large database.

Is there a way to append data to table only if fields have changed in an append query? Ex. (Name, Address, PhoneNum, Rate) If all fields are the same; don't append. If one or more fields are changed; append.

Forms :: How To Disable Edits In General Tab But Not In Calls Tab

Apr 9, 2013

I have a form called Contacts that has two tabs. One is called General adn the other Calls.

In the General tab I have a bound field called CustomerIDdet which can be numeric or alphanumeric. I need to disable edits in the General tab but not in the Calls tab if CustomerIDdet is numeric (and it follows certain additional rules)

I have placed this code in the Onload even for the form:

Code:

If Len(CustomerIDdet) = 9 Then
If IsNumeric(CustomerIDdet) Then
If Right(CustomerIDdet, 4) = 9090 Then
If Left(CustomerIDdet, 1) = 0 Then
'disable editing in the General tab
End If
End If
End If
End If

I know how to disable edits control by control, but can I disable edits in all controls in that tab at once?

Forms :: Prevent Edits Based On Permissions

Jul 24, 2014

I have created an ACL table (access control list) where I have the fields UserID,FormName,CanSee and CanEdit.

When the user opens the db, the on open event gets the LoggedOnUserName and then check my ACL table to either prevent viewing or editing.

I have got the prevent viewing part working, but am having a small problem with the prevent edits.
I can set the property to prevent edits, but i need the user to be able to search records. the combo box is disabled if I use the following code.

MyCount = DCount("User_ID", "dbo_NPY_ACL_User", "(dbo_NPY_ACL_User.User_ID)=" & MyUserId & " AND ((dbo_NPY_ACL_User.CanEdit)=False) AND ((dbo_NPY_ACL_User.NavBtn_ID)=" & MyTab & ")")

Me.AllowEdits = False

Forms :: Are 2 Forms Required For New Entries And Edits

I have a form for inputting Crisp Brands. On the form is a Txt_box for entering the crisp brand an unbound txt box for renering the text box to ensure spelling is correct and a lst_box listing all existing crisp brands in the sytem.

First question is:

1) When i open the form i only want to be able to add new entries and not be able to edit old entries. However i would like some people to have the ability to edit existing ones. Is it best to create two forms one for new entries adn one for editing or is it best to add a command button on form for editing.

2) how do i achieve new entries only?

Override Form Allow Edits With Code??

Oct 20, 2004

Greeting,
I am still struggling with my sub-form.
Have managed to prevent edit by using the form properties.
However I have some fields which have to be updated after the form has been closed.
I tried putting the following code in the (Before Update Event) of date issued field for instance.

If Me![DateIssued]=Null then
Me![DateIssued].Locked=False
end if

Needless to say this didn't help.

I have some fields which cannot be filled in until a later date.
These are job records so I have date open, Technician name date completed plus a whole herd of other stuff which has to be filled in as the job progresses.

Any help will be most appreciated,
Brian.

Many sessions can have many employees - thus the joining table has been included.

When trying to delete an employee from the database using a form, I encounter the error:

The record cannot be deleted or changed because table 'tblEmployeeSessions' includes related records

Is there a problem with my table relationship structure? Or is it 'correct' that as the employee is supervising a session he/she cannot be deleted as this would interfere and maybe mess up the session record?
