Not sure whats going on here, nothing on the table that stops this from working. I just get Run-time error "2448 You can't assign a value to this object" When the code runs.
Code: Private Sub Form_Open(Cancel As Integer) Dim rst As DAO.Recordset MySQL = " Select max(ID) from TblUserQry" Set rst = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset(MySQL) Myid = rst.Fields(0) + Int(Rnd(1) * 10) Me.txtMyID.Value = Myid
I have an unbound form, with a subform datasheet (sfmStaffDS) - not linked to the parent form, which displays a list of all staff. There is another subform (sfmStaff), which displays data based on a field in the form which takes its value from the DA subform. To add a staff member I press the button and this clears the fields down as expected.
However, when I start entering data (in the First NAme field), I get the error as stated in the title. Interestingly, I can carry on and the data gets saved as 'normal'.I have used this technique before with success, except that the DS subform is linked to a value on the parent form.
I'm building a simple database for storing records about books.
I'm currently working on one of the data entry forms. Part of this form is supposed to enable the user to add details about the book and the series that it belongs to (if it does belong to one).
The relationship is One-to-Many: One series can have many books. I've made the series part a sub form.
When I enter some data to test that it works, I get an error message when I try to add a new series using the sub form. It says:
"You can't assign a value to this object. *The object may be a control on a read-only form. *The object may be on a form that is open in Design view. *The value may be too large for this field."
As far as I know there isn't anything wrong, so I'm not certain why this error message comes up. I think it may have something to do with the primary key being the AutoNumber data type, but I just click 'OK' and ignore it, and it works fine.
The database works as far as I can see, I just want the error message to stop appearing.
I'm new to access and I'm struggling with the transfer of a form we use for fieldwork. I want a technician to be able to come in from the field and enter data in a way that is visually similar to how the collected it. To do this, I have created a form that is structured like this:
View 1 View 2 View3 View4 Sediment % XX XX XX XX
In the table 'results' , I would like to collate the information in what I call 'flat format', which is structured like so:
Site Date Parameter Value
XX XX SedimentView1 XX XX XX SedimentView2 XX ...
The thing is, I can only figure out how to assign a text box to a single field, i.e. value. What I need is for the field 'Parameter' to autofill based on the value-textbox name, e.g SedimentView1. Is there some simple way to do this?
Basically, I originally wanted to create a form which I can input data into Access with by using a button (I was unable to get Access to append the information from the forms to the table, so it didn't work out!). I did not want the fields on the form to be linked to a table, as then a record (and most importantly an auto-number) is created as soon as somebody starts typing. Should somebody stop typing halfway through and quit the form an autonumber will have been generated, which makes the number of "users" seem higher than it actually is. I got around this by changing the field from autonumber to number and then creating a query that selects the maximum value of ID in the table, then adds 1 to it (which is essentially the lowest unique number. I tend to call this newID).
The problem I now have is setting this to be written to the table alongside the data from the form (the rest of the fields on the form are now connected to the table, as I am no longer using an autonumber). I have tried the following: Setting the form to run the expression "[ID] = [qryMaximumUserID]![NewID] " on load. This returns the error "The object doesn't contain the Automation object 'qryMaximumUserID.' Setting the control source of the text box to be dLookup. This fills the textbox with the correct value, but then it doesn't write it to the table! Setting the default value of the field to be 0, then running an update query to update any ID of 0 (criteria "0" to the value of newID "update to: [qryMaximumUserID].[NewID]. "). However this doesn't work as whenever the query is run it asks for a parameter to be entered, rather than just taking the value from the other query. Writing a macro that is run on load to SetValue of item:[ID] to expression: [Forms]![qryMaximumUserID]![NewID]. However this returns an error "Microsoft Access cannot find the referenced form 'qryMaximumUserID' you entered in the expression.
I keep getting this message when I try and input a product ID in the subform in my 'Order Form', the message says 'you can't assign a value to this object' and when i try to click the row below it says 'You cannot add or change a record because a related record is required in table 'Invoices'', how can I change this? do i have to relate it to the Products table and if so how do i do this? Thanks, Bob.

Greetings, all. Run into a snag with a payroll db, appreciate any help you can give me.
Main Form, with ordinary payroll/personnel info--clock no, first and last names, S.S.no., etc. Subform for entering regular hours worked, OT hours worked, etc per Period Ending, keyed to main form by SS no. Pretty basic stuff.
Problem is, when we try to enter the first data in the subform, we get this error message : "You can't assign a value to this object. *The object may be a control on a read-only form. *The object may be on a form that is open in Design view. *The value may be too large for this field."
We get the message in the first field we go to, no matter which field we go to first. None of the "may be" conditions apply.
When we hit "OK" the message goes away and we can enter our data, the records are created corrected. But as soon as we move to the next record, we get the same error.
I have searched the forums and I don't see this problem. I have a split database. When I test it it works fine. It resides on a network drives and permissions have been checked. When users try it they get an error message that says "you can't assign a value to this object". This occurs after they have selected a project and the user form opens. The user form appears blank.
I have gone to other offices and if I am signed on to their machines it works but if they are the message comes up. I'm at a complete loss and need some advice. It's probably as plain as the nose on my face but I've been struggling for days.
By the way - I used to be Mrs.Meeker...I haven't been around for a long time.
I am trying to use Access 2007 popup calendar to populate a combo box with a selected date. When I select the date on the calendar the above error appears.
Code:
Private Sub Calendar9_Click() 'Set Date to the selected date and hide the clalendar. MAssBDate.Value = Calendar9.Value MAssBDate.SetFocus Calendar9.Visible = False End Sub
I have a form that runs from a query which combines data from 2 tables. I am trying to set up a filter on the form using a number of combo boxes and text boxes and a command button to fire it but I keep getting the above error (on the .Filter = strFilter line) and I can't see what the problem is with my code.
Private Sub cmdApplyFilter_Click()
Dim strSSType As String Dim strArea As String Dim strDepot As String Dim strStatus As String Dim strRisk As String Dim strZone As String Dim strContractor As String Dim strFilter As String
If IsNull(Me.cboSSType.Value) Then strSSType = "'Like '*'" Else strSSType = "='" & Me.cboSSType.Value & "'" End If
If IsNull(Me.cboArea.Value) Then strArea = "'Like '*'" Else strArea = "='" & Me.cboArea.Value & "'" End If
If IsNull(Me.cboDepot.Value) Then strDepot = "'Like '*'" Else strDepot = "='" & Me.cboDepot.Value & "'" End If
If IsNull(Me.cboStatus.Value) Then strStatus = "'Like '*'" Else strStatus = "='" & Me.cboStatus.Value & "'" End If
If IsNull(Me.cboRisk.Value) Then strRisk = "'Like '*'" Else strRisk = "='" & Me.cboRisk.Value & "'" End If
If IsNull(Me.cboZone.Value) Then strZone = "'Like '*'" Else strZone = "='" & Me.cboZone.Value & "'" End If
If IsNull(Me.cboContractor.Value) Then strContractor = "'Like '*'" Else strContractor = "='" & Me.cboContractor.Value & "'" End If
I have a combobox which has 2 values: "kids" and "adults".
When the user selects item "kids", a textbox should display record from table named kids. And when the user selects item "adults", the textbox should display record from table named adults.
I have a problem in doing a task with my form. Actually I have a button to add a new record which opens a new form there i enter the values to the record. But when I press the Addnew record button I want to calculate the maximum of the Identity field +1 and open the new form with that new number which i have calculated. How can i do this....
Hi Gang, I'm new to this forum so please bare with me. I have spent the last two days trying to resolve, or work out why on earth I am getting this error message. I am at the point of pulling my hair out - its SO frustrating so *any* suggestion would be great. I have created a small database for plant (as in flowers) details. To cut a long story short, its a simple db fronted by a form that allows me to display and add records together with an associated image (stored outside the db). I was trying to write some code that would look at the control that displays the image and, if there is no image associated with a particular record, it would display an "add new image" button. If there is an associated image, the buttons visable property is set to false. I had ammended a section of code for the forms "on current" event and saved the changes. I then changed to form view, tried to enter a new record and access throws up the error message. It does not matter which field I try to add data in, the same error still happens. I have checked, and re-checked all my code and property settings for every control and field on the form and I can not track down what is causing this error. I noticed from searching this forum that someone else had this error but the resolution does not appear to have been posted so can anyone help in any way at all. My grateful thanks, Kenny
I am currently building a database for the company I work for that is fairly similar to the Northwind Database; however it is made from scratch so hopefully some of the common problems with that database won't find their way into mine.My problem is that when I go to my Orders form, I pick a customer from the main form, which creates a record on the Orders table. When I then go to the subform to choose a product/line item, I get the error in my title ("The LinkMasterFields property setting has produced this error: 'The object doesn't contain the Automation object 'OrdersT.") as soon as a product is chosen from the drop down list.
Firstly, I create a form and sub-form relationship of which the sub-form linked with a combobox on main form. When user wondering in the combobox, the subform could display relavant records related to the invoice number selected in the combobox.
In the subform, records got a YES/NO field (named CHECKAMT) and when I used the following coding to update records in the subform, a message something liked saying the record had been used by another user, you may overwrite those records, copy those records to another place or undo and quit!!
Set TRANS2 = db.OpenRecordset("select * " & " from MSQUARE WHERE INVNO = '" & Me.INVONUM & "'", dbOpenDynaset) TRANS2.MoveFirst Do While Not TRANS2.EOF TRANS2.Edit TRANS2![AMOUNT] = Null TRANS2![checkAMT] = -1 TRANS2.UPDATE TRANS2.MoveFirst LOOP
I have a date textbox (Week_Ending) and number textbox (Staff_ID) in a form (frmHourEnter), when both have values I open another form (frmStaffReport) with textboxes (txtDateStart and cmbStaff).
How do I open the second form with the values of the first form pre-entered?
I have a database for billing. In my database, I have a form that consists of a main form "Order" and 2 subforms "OrderDetails" and "Customer" OrderDetails are to enter the products to be connected to the Order. All function super, but I want to have some information from one of the forms "copied" over to on of the others.
Here is what I would like
In the subform "OrderDetails" I have made a textbox that summarize all prices to a total, his tekstbox i called "Tekst31". I would like the amount in this textbox to appear in a field "Belb" in the main form "Order".
I have tried some different commands, but nothing has worked, also I have made a query which dose the same ting as the tekstboks, as the information in that tekstbox it not stored anywhere.
I have a form that has four textboxes, date dropdown box and a date box. I am trying to get the form to do the following: Block user from writing in the textboxes if they have not selected a date in the date box.
Get the datebox to look at the behide screens records to see if there has already been a documented date (duplicate date) and inform the user that this date has already been used. Then auto them to the date dropdown.
I'm trying to write code which writes text into text boxes on a form depending of certain content of other text boxes. The names of the text boxes are all very similar
F.i. R1, R2, R3 ...... R12 if the content of these boxes are empty then the content of the corresponding text boxes VR1, IR1, VR2, IR2, VR3, IR3.......VR12, IR12 should also be empty.
In fact I am trying to write something like this
DO UNTIL i=12 if me.R(i).value = "" then me.VR(i).value = "" me.IR(i).value = "" endif LOOP
But this isn't working. The solution below works but isn't a very nice one, writing 12 times the same code
if me.R1.value = "" then me.VR1.value = "" me.IR1.value = "" endif
if me.R2.value = "" then me.VR2.value = "" me.IR2.value = "" endif
