Forms :: Adding Value Of Combobox To Hidden Column When User Enters A New Record
Aug 14, 2013I'm very new to access so I'm not sure about the correct way to go about this. I have a table with a 'category' column, a form which hides the category column, and a combobox to filter the category, let's say R, C, and F.
What I want accomplish is to have the value of the comobox applied to the hidden 'category' column when a user enters a new record into the form.
Is there I way I can get an instance to the record as it's being entered and modify the data using VB? Or would I have to write a sort of pop() function and have it run afterInsert and then modify it that way? Can I even alter the table using VB like this?

Sep 30, 2013I have a problem with a DB I just designed. It has a combobox that is populated from a query, and it works great. However, the problem is that when I enter a new record the combobox is not being cleared, and is "holding" the data from the previous record. How can I get it to "reset"?

Nov 23, 2013i have a form with various tabs and a number of fields. If I could I would just select all fields to "required=Yes" in the table design mode. But some fields should only have data entered if another field has a certain value. So, I think I just want all visible fields for this data requirement (I set some fields to visible=false if I don't want them to have a value).
So far I tried to do this on click of the Submit Record button which I created using the "docmd.gotorecord, , acnewrec" statement, but I can't seem to make it work when combining it with if then msgbox statements. Plus I typed an if then statement for every required field.

Dec 23, 2013I have a form that a user fill out to populate fields in my database...how can I make it so that user MUST fill in certain fields before they are allowed to save data?
I need to stop users from taking shortcuts when entering data, and skipping a lot of fields. So i would like to be able to specify the minimum fields, and an error message must show when they try save incorrectly to alert them to this.

Sep 8, 2014I need to be able to restrict users enter a value in the text box (on Form B) called "FTE Assigned" if Dsum of a field called "FTE Allocated" in another form A is less than what is going to be sum of FTE Assigned after the value is entered.
Both these forms are used by users to enter data in the 2 separate tables which are linked together through a join.
Master table - having FTE Allocated values and secondary table having FTE Assigned values.
Basically a message box would do if Dsum (of FTE used) is coming out higher than FTE allocated.

Dec 4, 2014How can I make certain my user enters records on a subform before attempting to save the main form? Right now they can completely ignore the subform before saving the record.The Main form has business address, etc. on it. the subform is bound to a join table that lists the multiple categories, subcategories and sector the business is listed in for a directory.
I already have my fields set to required at the table level in the join table, and have some existing VBA in both my subform (to update edited date) and my form (to validate empty records where a certain condition is met) but that's not the issue...
How do I focus the user to enter a record on the subform to the point where they are forced to enter something and complete the subform before the record is updated.

I have this db for my vehicle log sheets and I submit monthly a claim for the business km from my company. I usually cant remember the date of the previous claim and have to scroll back until I find the field with a date. It will be useful if the date was copied into every new record until I edit the date when I submit the claim. What I ask is during the new month all the dates will be the same until I submit the claim. I do not know how to do this, and yes I have done a search.

Jul 31, 2014I have a database for mutli users which is split. Front end is available separately for 3 users. These users make data entry in the same form from their front end form. This particular form has combo box that retrieves data based on selection in combo box and the use starts filling the data in the subform. Upto this, form is Ok, no problems seen.
But when the second user opens the same form from the split database front end stored in his computer, and once the second user selects another record from the combo box, first user's record also changes immediately to the record of Second user. Both users now have the same record even though the form is separately accessed from front end.

Aug 25, 2014I have been looking for days on the net for my listbox problem. It is there and found a few, even on this forum. but when i try the solutions mentioned i am in a total loss and do not know what to change to make it work for me.
I have a form named A/B Retriever with a record source qry input AB Bins Than i have a unbound combobox with row source qry input AB Bins. This populates 8 textboxes with B through I carton boxes, stored in a bin. The user selects a Bin location from the combobox and can put a "x" in a textbox to illustrate that the box is empty. This works perfect.
Underneath the input bin and box part i have 8 listboxes that shows a query that has counted the empty boxes with the corresponding bin location. this also works. but the question from users where, If i click on a, lets say empty B-box at Bin location 12A20, they want the combobox automatically focus on the combobox with the corresponding Bin location. This is a quick way for them to delete a empty box (remove the X).

What I would like to do is be able to create a form that can add multiple classes for each student. For example, I have Student 1. Student 1 has attended class A, B, C, and D. I would like the form to have the student's name and ID with a way to add multiple classes linked to that student.

Oct 23, 2013I have a main form created from a query (FrmQuerySearchResults) which has a sub-form within, (FrmPresentationsTabular) which I am using to show each presentation to our service made by any given client.
For ease of use, I've removed the navigation buttons and want to replace them with my own command buttons. For appearance, I've changed the properties of the sub-form so that 'allow additions' is set to No. This is so that the list of presentations users see does not show the bottom row as a new record.
I'm trying (using macros) to add a button in the footer of the subform that opens a new form (FrmNewPresentation) which opens to a blank record allowing the user to click button, enter info, hit close.
I'm having all sorts of trouble getting this button to do as its told! So far, I have a macro that has 2 steps, first it opens FrmNewPresentation, then it has action GoToRecord, with record set to New, object type set to Table, object name set to Presentations (the name of my table populating this sub-form).
I realise the problem may be the allow additions property being set to No, so I believe I need to add parts to this Macro that goes to that property and changes it on opening the input form - I keep getting a message saying "The object 'Presentations' isn't open.

Aug 27, 2013I am working on a database project using Access 2010 and encounter some ComboBox text color problem,
The form has a ComboBox that displays the Supplier Name. The Combo's source control is Supplier ID in the Products table which joints the Supplier Table containing the Supplier Name. To display the Supplier Name only, I use a column count of 2 (for VendorID and VendorName) and column width of 0";2" so as to hide the SupplierID.
VBA is used to dynamically change the ForeColor and BackColor (via the Control Property ".ForeColor" etc) of the text in the ComboBox and TextBox. This works well for all TextBoxes and the ComboBoxes with direct data from the Products Table. However, for the ComboBox of VendorName, the BackColor can change but the ForeColor always remains as black. I have tried using the Format query such as "[White];@;[White];@" which works on the TextBox and other ComboBox (with direct field data from table), but the situation remains the same on this ComboBox which uses join-table reference via the VendorID.

I have a form with 2 text boxes BarTxt and EngTxt as well as a button called SaveBtn. on the OnClick event of the SaveBtn I put the following code

Apr 1, 2013I have a form based on a query.On the form I have 4 comboboxes.The combo boxes filter eachother without a problem (based on custom select query).Now I want after the fourth combobox value is selected, I want to populate a text field with a value from a different column from the master query (after the 4 selections only 1 value should be possible)I try to say this easy.Master query contains 5 columns:
- group
- type
- job
- insurance
- charge
combo1 selects group (and filters records)
combo2 selects type (from remaining records and filters again)
combo3 selects job (from remaining records and filters again)
combo4 selects insurance (from remaining records and filters again)

This works great and the dropbox only shows 1 OF EACH DIFFERENT record...If I add a text box and want to see the "charge" value, that I thought I could use the ME.text-code. But in order to do this, I have to add the charge column into the query of Combo4.the dropbox for insurance gives me multiple values that are the same. Is there any way to make this work?

I have several Unbound Text Boxes set to autopopulate based on the ComboBox selection.
I have two related (I think) issues:
One: Every time I open the form the Text Boxes are blank until I select an option from the Combo Box.
Two: If I make a selection in one record then move to another record, the information from the original record is still showing.

May 24, 2013I currently have a database where new records can be entered in a "New Part" Form and Records can be viewed(but not altered) in a "Part Search" Form. The forms are the same except one is allowed to edit. I have also created another form where I am trying to search the "Part Search" Form via a tracking number. I want to have a text box where users enter a tracking number then click the button to take them to the record on the "Part Search" Form.
