Forms :: Default Property / Using A Control Of Main Form Without Using Names Of Forms?
Nov 8, 2013
In the default property of a subform control I want to use a control of the main form without using names of forms, but using me and parent.
I used in default property of cboVATDetail: =Me.Parent!cboVAT, but it is not accepted. My aim is to use cboVAT of parent as default in cboVATDetail of child.
I have a form that request the User to enter a Parcel ID number (99-9a-99-99aaa-aaa-aaaa). The sub form asks for the subdivision number, block number, and lot number. The subdivision number, block number and lot number are normally part of the Parcel ID number but sometimes they can be different. I want the sub form to fill in the Subdivision number, block number, and lot number as a default but allow the user to change the value if needed. currently the sub form will only show what is entered into the table itself if a change is made on the main form the sub form does not reflect the change.
I have a combo box that takes it's data from a table called tblFruitBasket. What code do I put in the Default Value property such that the default value is the fifth element (or say fifth row) of field [Fruit] of table tblFruitBasket?
I have setup my main form with 2 subforms to mimic a split form; this works fine.
To search for a record, I am using a cbo on the main form which I would like the user to select from. Once selected, then this will populate the first subform.
This is the code I have for the cbo:
Dim intAnswer As Integer If IsNull(Me!cboCaseNoCFDWit) Then Exit Sub With Me!sfFocus.Form.RecordsetClone .FindFirst "Me!sfFocus.Form!CaseNumber = """ & Me!cboCaseNoCFDWit & """" If Not .NoMatch Then If Me.Dirty Then Me.Dirty = False
[Code] ....
I get an error at the .findfirst; states that the Microsoft Engine does not recogize Me!sfFocus.Form!CaseNumber
And the reason I am not using a regular split form is because I cannot, get the form to the size that I want. The splitform works great with the code above (a few changes to it of course), but the bottom of the splitform (datasheet) is too long and I cannot shorten it.
I have a Main form 'frmEmployeeInjury' with a subform 'frmInjuryDetails'.On the subform is a date field 'dteDateofInjury' and on the main form a command button 'SaveRecord'
What I am trying to do is hide the command button on the main form until a date is entered in the 'dteDateofInjury' field.I have looked online and found information on main form and subform referencing, but I can't follow it very well without examples.
Code:
Private Sub dteDateofInjury_AfterUpdate() Me.Forms![frmEmployeeInjury]![SaveRecord].Enabled 'Me.Parent.cmdSaveNewInjury.Visable 'Me.Parent.cmdSaveNewInjury.Enabled End Sub
I added a new field to one of my tables and query, but when I try to add a control for that field into my form it is not recognising it and the field isn't appearing in the sources for the form, even though the table is sourced to the form? Or am I going to have to do the usual and redo the entire form because I made a minor adjustment?
I have a form with a subform which resides in a tabbed control. In that subform, I have a textbox in the footer that sums values in the detail section of the subform.
I have a textbox on my main form that should display the same data that is in my subform footer textbox, but it is giving me the #name? error.
This is the expression in my subform footer textbox (which returns the correct result):
TxtSubtotalHQPCalc - =Sum([ActualHQPCalc])
And the expression in my main form textbox (which returns #name?):
I have verified that my subform name and textbox names are all accurate. This is very frustrating because I am using this exact same method in a different database with no problems!
I have a form called Add New Delegation, i have combo box of Institution names on the main form and a subform for Agreements discussed. with a combo box called agreements. I successfully cascaded the combo boxes so that the agreements discussed on the subform are filtered by their respective institutions on the main form. However i am unable to refresh the list each time a new institution is selected as the Macro will not allow me to requery a control on the mainform from the subform..
In a form (bounded to this table) I have, of course, 2 controls bounded to this fields:
txtD1 and txtD2
If the user change the value in txtD1 (using the Date picker) I like to change the DefaultValue for txtD1 to the new date and the DefaultValue for txtD2 to the new date + 1 day. Something like this:
Code: Private Sub txtD1_AfterUpdate() Me.txtD1.DefaultValue = Me.txtD1 Me.txtD2.DefaultValue = Me.txtD1 + 1 day End Sub
I tried whatever crossed my mind... with the same "result" : #Name?
My Regional settings:
Short date format: dd.MM.yyyy Date separator: Dot Simple: 05.12.2013
Is it possible to use a formula in the Caption property of a page in a tab control (i.e. to make it dynamic)
I have a number of tabs each with their own subform (with each subform driven by its own unique query)
I'd like the tab name to include the number of records returned by that query (so as records are added, the tab name is automatically updated with the new number)
So something along the lines of :
Page 1 (" & DCount("[ID]","[qryQuery1]") & ")"
Such that the page name appears as :
Page 1 (7)
I know I can code this programmatically but then that code has to be triggered by some event and I need the counts to be as real-time as feasibly possible rather than requiring the user to click on a control to trigger it. I was hoping by using a formula directly in the Caption property of the page, it would be dynamically updated every time a new record was added without the need to trigger an event first.
I have 3 tables, tblClients, tblClientDetails, and tblSchedulingDetails.
I have a field in tblClientDetails to contain the client number from tblClients, and I have two fields in tblSchedulingDetails to contain the client number and the client details number.
I then created a form that holds most of the fields for all of the tables mentioned above to enter new client names, new client address info, and basic client scheduling info.
Now, I have set the default values using the property sheet in design view for the following:
ClientNum > ClientNum_tblClientDetails and ClientNum > ClientNum_tblSchedulingDetails and ClientDetailsNum > ClientDetailsNum_tblSchedulingDetails
I promise this is not a riddle...
Here's the quandary - ClientNum_tblClientDetails is autofilling from tblClients, and ClientDetailsNum_tblSchedulingDetails is autofilling from tblClientDetails, but ClientNum_tblSchedulingDetails is not autofilling in spite of the fact that the default value is set with =[ClientNum].
I then created a modal dialogue form with the fields from tblClients and tblClientDetails with a command button that opens another modal that contains the fields from tblSchedulingDetails, set the appropriate default values, and the ClientNum_tblSchedulingDetails autofills as needed.
The question at hand is, why do I have to use modal dialogue forms to perform this action and cannot do it in one single form?
I have created a form "PAYMENTS" that include a sub form "PAYMENT DETAILS".
In the sub form control Policy Id is defined as combo box, and retrieving the list from Policies and Payments where Policies.Client=Payments.Client the query of Combo Box is as follows:
Code:
SELECT POLICIES.[POLICY ID] FROM POLICIES WHERE (((POLICIES.PAID)=False) AND ((POLICIES.CLIENT)=[Forms]![PAYMENTS]![ClientId]));
Only first time Combo Box display the Policy Ids according to the Client, but when I change the client and always displays the previous clients Policy Ids.
how to retrieve correct list of Policy Ids according to the Input Client in Payments.Client control
Is there a way to create a text default value for a control box that is bound to a number field?
I have a combo box that is bound to an auto number ID but displays text. Bound column = 1, Number of column = 2, Column width = 0; 4cm
I want to use sample text in all my controls (and I know an alternative would be to use the control tip text). In a text box it is easy, I just set the default value to that value and then a before_update event considers the text box empty if the field value is the default value (e.g. Name text box has: Name... as default value). This doesn't work with my combo box since the bound column is a number. I could create a value in the table but then it would appear in the drop box and it is messy.
New to the navigation form: I need several forms in the navigation form to all relate to the same client ID field. I have this information on the main form but the form with in the navigation form will not pick it up.
I have tried =[Forms]![Frm Client Information Navigation Panel]![ClientID] But just cant get it to pick up that information...
I would like to have something like the master link fields and, child link fields but when I add a form to the navigation form this option in not available.
I've saved a form to an text file to investigate a corrupted form issue. The output text file has below extracted text. I am wondering where I can find the TOP, RIGHT BOTTOM property of the form in design time? I could see some properties such as GridX, GridY, but not sure where are TOP property.

I have an access form with tab control pages each with embedded forms. In one page I have a list of records as a datasheet form with the record identifier field configured as a hyperlink. When I click on this it passes its value to a form field in the form in the following tab page (works without the hyperlink but its a useful way of highlighting which field to click) which is a display/edit form of the details of the individual record. The Subroutine which does this sets the focus on this field it is passing the value to on the other form and the 'On Got Focus' event in that triggers the query that fills the editor form.
When I click back on the following tab to select another record to view/edit, the identifier value of the other record is passed to the other form but the data displayed in the rest form doesn't change. I understand this is because the field with the 'On Got Focus' never lost focus and so the query function was not called. To correct this I tried adding the same function call to the 'On Change' event however this does not work (the field is a text box set to 'locked' if that is relevant).I can get the form to do a new query properly if I click on a different field in the form before going back to the list tab or (as this is removing the focus allowing the On Got Focus to work again) if I click on a button to select a different record (which just takes me back to the list form).
Is there any way I can get this to work without having to manually remove the focus from the problem field? I have tried setting its On Got Focus event to move the focus to another field after the query function call however this prevents the Setfocus line in the code in the previous form from working. Here is a snippet of my code below. This code is for the list form and passes a value to the editing form:
How to set a single form's property to act as it's own "overlapping window" in a database that is set to use tabbed documents. I want most windows to have the tabbed layout but there are a few that I would like to have pop out and be their own windows.
I noticed that the Northwind database did this somehow. if you click on one of the products from the home screen a form pops up in its own window. I tried reverse engineering it, but no luck so far.
I'm trying to make a very simple click through data entry screen in Access 2007. For each record I want to have a standard form with three buttons at the bottom. Each button opens a new form (each form has a set of tabbed pages on it as there is lots to enter). How do I make sure that each of the additional forms populate the same record as the main form.
I am attempting to create a Navigation Form to allow another computer in my network to be able to utilize necessary forms within a database (through RunTime). I was hoping this would be a clean task by simply loading the forms into the tabs of the Navigation Form, however that is clearly not the case.
For starters, When attempting to use a form that has some VBA behind it (Docmd.ApplyFilter based on a selection from a combo box), I am given the error stating: "The action or method is invalid because the form or report isn't bound to a table or query."
After searching on this error, I believe it's because my Navigation Form does not have a record source. If this is the case, then I am confused as to what record source it should have, as with the 3 forms I need to access through the Navigation Form all pull data between various tables and queries within the database (some not related).
Now I've also come to the conclusion that my VBA references now must change in order to correctly use my forms. A correct reference would look something like:[Forms]![Navigation Form]![NavigationSubform].[Form].[My Form's Control]..Is this necessary in order to write any events, such as an AfterUpdate on a combo box?
I have a form that launches a query. The results are displayed in a continuous form called ParentForm. On the ParentForm is a combobox which selects a singleform called a ChildForm that displays the details of the selected record. I placed a command button on the ChildForm. This button simulates a circular triple state toggle switch. By clicking this switch the form goes from ReadOnly to Edit to Add modes. The form properties AllowEdits , Allow Additions and DataEntry are adjusted accordingly. These properties when they are changed seem to initiate requery of the underlying data source. Here is the code. I am looking for a way to avoid requery of the data when the mod is changed.
Code: Private Sub ModeBt_Click() '------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ' Circular toggle button to change display mode of the form ' ReadOnly - Edit - Add '------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Select Case Me.Mode Case "Edit Mode" Me.AllowEdits = False
I have a command button on a main form which on 'on click' enables a number of fields on the main form that were previously enabled = False to be enabled = True.
The problem is I also have a sub form within the main form where I want to do the same. (A number of fields within the subform are also set to false and I want them to go to True) I can set a seperate button up on the sub form to do the same but I would much prefer the button on the main form did the whole lot.
The problem is I haven't a clue to the VB of how to include fields within the subform as well as the ones on the main form.
For info the main form is called FrmTblMain and the sub form SubFrmProject
The fields on the subform that I wish to set to true are 'First' and 'Second'
