Forms :: Command Button To Unlock And Lock Fields / Edit Button?

Feb 19, 2014

I have created a web-database (? - There are globes over all the forms and tables icons) based on the Issues & Tasks template. This means that most of the data is entered and seen on the "Main" form, which has two tabs - Open Issues and Closed Issues. I have created a form that allows people at my work to input the necessary data and save it, so that it will show up on one of the two tabs. However, once a record has been created, I want to be initially locked if the ID/PK is clicked, so that data can't be changed or entered inadvertently.

SO, I changed the code so that when the ID/PK for a record is clicked, it brings up a different form, but one that looks exactly like the one that is brought up when entering a new form, but I locked all of the fields so that the information cannot be changed. It seems from what I have read that I can create a button on this form so that when clicked, it unlocks the fields on the form so that they can be changed, and then when clicked again it will lock the fields again. Is this true? If so, how can I do it? Or is there something similar I can do? I have seen codes that I could copy and paste, but I cannot figure out the place to copy and paste codes in Access 2010.

I have changed the Form properties so that Data Entry and all the "Allows" are set to No...

Forms :: Navigation Form - Using DB Forms Under Its Subform Control

Jun 19, 2013

I am attempting to create a Navigation Form to allow another computer in my network to be able to utilize necessary forms within a database (through RunTime). I was hoping this would be a clean task by simply loading the forms into the tabs of the Navigation Form, however that is clearly not the case.

For starters, When attempting to use a form that has some VBA behind it (Docmd.ApplyFilter based on a selection from a combo box), I am given the error stating: "The action or method is invalid because the form or report isn't bound to a table or query."

After searching on this error, I believe it's because my Navigation Form does not have a record source. If this is the case, then I am confused as to what record source it should have, as with the 3 forms I need to access through the Navigation Form all pull data between various tables and queries within the database (some not related).

Now I've also come to the conclusion that my VBA references now must change in order to correctly use my forms. A correct reference would look something like:[Forms]![Navigation Form]![NavigationSubform].[Form].[My Form's Control]..Is this necessary in order to write any events, such as an AfterUpdate on a combo box?

Forms :: Record Navigation Button

Mar 25, 2015

I am using Access 2007 and am a former user of an old flat-file 32 bit program under Windows 3.x. I am fairly new to MS Access 2007. I run a filter or query, which will return X number of records. Then, I will search those X records by specific text, such as "assist" from the record navigation buttons. I search for "assist" and the text will be highlighted each time it is found in any text or memo field in the record. Hitting Enter takes me to the next occurrence and highlights the text. If "assist" occurs in 4 fields in a record, for instance, it will be highlighted in each of those 4 fields one by one as I hit Enter. The next Enter takes me to the next record and will then continue to the next occurrence of assist" in any of its fields. It will continue to highlight "assist" in those fields, in succession, until the last occurrence in all of those records is found, in which case Enter does not return "assist" anymore because the last occurrence has already been found.

This does not always work. Often, I get every occurrence of "assist," but in the current record only, even though the word exists in other remaining records that were returned with my original filters/query.

Forms :: Referencing A Control On Access 2010 Navigation System

May 29, 2015

I have an Access 2010 Database frontend to SQL Server 2008 Backend. So far there are 3 Tabs in the Navigation System. The first one is the primary Data Entry form which has a tab control with 3 subforms.

Here's the problem. The database is designed to track potential members based on different types of Ads. The primary Data Entry form holds all of the demographic data for the person that called in response to an ad. The first tab has a subform to track how many times that person has contacted us. The second subform tracks which advertisements the person is contacting us about and the third tracks which Events that person attended. There is no correlation between contacts, Ads and Events.

On the Advertisements we have about 7 different types of Ads we do and each ad can be run multiple times on different days. We want to be able to track which Ad the person contacted us about. The Advertisement subform has a comgo box for the Ad type and a combo box for the ad date. the source for the combo box for the ad date includes the combobox for the adtype as the criteria. That criteria is what's giving me the problem. I've used:

forms!mainmenu!navigationsubform.form!potential_me mbers!frmAdvertisements!cboadvid

Along with every other variation I can think of. The form itself is frmAdvertisements but I'm using it in a tab control and I also tried:

forms!mainment!navigationsubform.form!potential_me mbers!adv!cboadvid

Forms :: How To Define Position Of A Navigation Button

Jun 3, 2013

Is it possible to define the position of a navigation button. For example, I want my first navigation button not starting totally on the left but a bit indented. Possible?

Secondly, suppose I have combo boxes on my first navigation button and for each combo box and choose a value, next I move to the second navigation and then back to the first navigation button. Then it always seems that the values of my combo boxed are reset to default value. Can this be avoided?

Any way to place an "Edit" button on the form that allows the user to edit the current record? I thought about creating two sepasrate forms, but I really don't want to maintain two of them.

Forms :: Enable / Disable Navigation Button On Form Load?

Mar 25, 2013

Basically I want to put a code in the "on load" event of a form that enables or disables navigation buttons based on a value in a table (the table has 1 record and 1 column).

So if the value is "A", I want to hide navigation buttons on load; if it is "B", I want to show navigation buttons on load.

I know I can set this property in each form, but I have a number of forms that I want to configure at the same time.

My problem is that I don't know how to reference the value in the table.

Forms :: Opening A Word Document Via A Button Control On A Form?

Aug 5, 2015

I would like to open a Word document using a button control on a form to a file path listed in a field on the form. I use the following code when I want to open a single specific document...

Dim wdApp As Word.Application, wdDoc As Word.Document
On Error Resume Next
Set wdApp = GetObject(, "Word.Application")
If Err.Number <> 0 Then 'Word isn't already running
Set wdApp = CreateObject("Word.Application")
End If
On Error GoTo 0
Set wdDoc = wdApp.Documents.Open(File path here)
wdApp.Visible = True

...but in this case the file path I want to use will be designated by a field on the form. I know I could just use a hyperlink but I don't like the way it looks on the form. I would rather hide that field and have code pull that path when I hit the button.

So how would I change my code to make it so the value in the file path field on the form goes in where it says "File path here" in my code above?

When this button is used I want it to pull certain data for that specific line from the query and input it into the new record opened by the button. I know this is possible as I use another db that does this but I have not been able to figure out how to make it work in the new db.

Navigation Control Of Form

Oct 22, 2004

Hello all,

I am in dire need of Access expertise. Basically, I have a form with many customer records. What I want to accomplish is to have a text box at the bottom of the form whereby I can type in a client's name which would change the record on the form to display that clients information. It would be nice if what I type into the text box doesn't have to match a clients name exactly (maybe use some sort of wildcard?). I have but a clue how to acheive this. Any suggestions would be sincerely appreciated.

Modules & VBA :: Navigation Control Subform Saving

However, this then means that when i try to navigate away to another form i always get prompted whether to save the form or not.

because the form is in a navigation subform i can't use:

Code:
DoCmd.Save acForm, Form_NavigationForm.NavigationSubform.Form.Name
' or this...
DoCmd.Save acForm, "my_form"

in both cases i get an error : the object my_form isn't open

Cant Create Image Edit Control In Access Form

Oct 4, 2006

Hi,

I've searched a lot and couldn't find an answer to my problem.

I want to have a field in my form that allow me to paste an image from the clipboard to, for example, a Paint field. Then, I want to save that image to a file on a specific folder in my computer via VB.

The reason for this is that I don't want to ask the user to open paint by himself and save the file, probably in the wrong location and with the wrong name.

The first approach was creating an OLE Object directly from the Insert menu and that worked partially. It allowed me to paste the image but there wasn't a way to save it to a file, neither a method for that. It was an incrusted object, and I think that is the reason for that.

Then I tried to create the object by myself via VB, with the instructions:

Dim objeto_perfil As Object
Set objeto_perfil = CreateObject("Paint.Picture") 'IT STOPS HERE

And with the variation:

Dim objeto_perfil As Object
Set objeto_perfil = CreateObject("Paint") 'IT STOPS HERE

And neither worked. The error message says it lacks an object.

Then I followed an example from msdn that used a bound frame (view here (http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/vbaac11/html/acproClass_HV05187062.asp)). The code is:

visor_perfil.Class = "Paint.Picture" ' Set class name.
' Specify type of object.
visor_perfil.OLETypeAllowed = acOLELinked
' Specify source file.
visor_perfil.SourceDoc = "C:RealPathimage.BMP"
' Create linked object.
visor_perfil.Action = acOLECreateLink 'IT STOPS HERE
' Adjust control size.
visor_perfil.SizeMode = acOLESizeZoom

It stops in the action assignation, an says "error 2753 there was an error trying to communicate with the OLE server".

I google a lot and could find much of the Paint.Picture Class.

Anyone has any ideas to overcome this issue? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Navigation Button In Subform

Nov 29, 2005

Hi,

I've got a form including a subform in datasheet view. I get rid of the defaulted scroll bars and navigation icons provided in the subform.

Now, I added my own buttons in the footer section to manage records in my subform ; by checking the forum, I understood that the items put in the footer or in the header section won't appear if I use the datasheet view.

Is there a way to use my own navigation buttons instead of the default ones ??

cheers.

Fab.

Navigation Button Error Trapping

Jun 1, 2005

I've made my own record navigation buttons on a form. they work fine, except when i get to the first record. if i click 'previous' then the 2105 error pops up "you can't go to specified record". the buttons were created through the wizard, and have error trapping in them. for some reason, it never actually goes to the error handler. the error message comes up, i press debug, and the 'DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acPrevious' is highlighted.

any ideas why the error trapping isn't working? here's the code:

Private Sub cmdPrevJob_Click()
Dim x As Variant
On Error GoTo Err_cmdPrevJob_Click
DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acPrevious
Exit_cmdPrevJob_Click:
Exit Sub
Err_cmdPrevJob_Click:
If Err.Number = 2105 Then stop
MsgBox Err.Description
Resume Exit_cmdPrevJob_Click
End Sub
