I have a form and a subform for data entry. It is often the case that not all the data may have been entered and so a user might need to go to recordID 24 in 30 already entered main records. However, he needs to get to that record via a (unique) 1-1 field. How do I create the form so that as well as being able to go to the first, the last, the next, the previous record, I can go to a record of my choice.
I have a main form that displays four lines of data. I have a tab control with 3 tabs. The form displays perfectly until I navigate to one of the other tabs and back to the main tab. It appears to scroll down a couple of lines and I loose the top line of data.
I was wondering if anybody could help with this. I have searched through this forum and there doesnt seem to be an answer to this.
I have a form that i would like to validate. At present i have put the data validation on the save button which triggers a script that checks to see if certain boxes have been filled in on the form. I can only get this to work be attaching it to the onclick event on a save button, however, what i really want is to be able to ditch the save button (since access writes to the DB as it goes along) and have this script triggered whenever the user tries to navigate to either a new record/ another existing record or close the form
I tried putting this on the beforer update event, but this does not work, additionally tried doing before update event with the code inside an if me.form.dirty = true statement this did not work either, has anybody got any suggestions
Please see my code below
Thanks
Marcus

Hi, Sorry noob here with a noob question... I built my first database for my work, and I want buttons that can navigate through the records on the form view, but I want them to be like A,B,C,D etc... When I click the button I want it to go to the first last name in the record of that letter of alphabit.... I know it can be done because at my previous employment they had that feature. Please help... I can't figure this out... Also, how do I import IMT forms into an access database???
When I add a record in the subform and then move to the next record whilst still in the subform, the main form jumps back to its first record? I then have to move back to the right record in the main form to update the next record in the subform.
I want to move to the next record in the subform without affecting the main form.
I have two forms, the first of which I'll refer to as my "main" form. The main form has 6 text boxes bound to Table1.
There is a one-to-many relationship between the records of Table1 and the Dates table.
After filling out the first 2 text boxes of the main form, I want to open up a second form to populate the Dates table. I'm using OpenArgs to pass through the PK of Table1, so that it can be recorded in the Dates table.
Sometimes I'll want to enter a 2nd or 3rd date, but I am getting an error message after entering the 1st date. It says that Access cannot find a matching key in the main table.
Is there a way for me to save the record in the Table1 prior to opening. The second form so that I can avoid the error message?
I don't want to use a subform to enter the dates because I don't care for the datatable look of subforms. After entering the dates in the second form, I then want to go back to the main form to complete entering the remaining text boxes.
I have a form which consists of four (4) tabbed sheets. The first sheet is the main form and the other three sheets are the linked subforms.
Pressing the tab key on the keyboard navigates from field to field in each individual form; however, I would like that when I get to the last field of each form, pressing tab moves to the next sheet or the first field of the next subform.
The problem I am getting is that when I get to the last field of the main form and/or subforms, hitting the tab button creates a new record in the specific form, which I do not want. I want to just tab to the next subform.
I am currently working on a project in access 2010 and I am having a search for record dilemma. I have a main form that has a subform in it under a tab control. I place a search box at the top of the form so that user could select either the ID, the internal case number, and/or the reviewer name in the text boxes to search the record.
I have tried the using the search for record macros and the convert the macros to VBA and possibly write so extra coding for calling the subform into the search but nothing seems to work in getting the search in sync between the main form an the subform. VBA code that will look for same record in both forms.
The reason for the tab control is because depending on the data entered the users switch between mid section data about case and so one set of info goes into one tbl and the other goes into another, but the subform that I am referring to in this question is being generated from the same tbl as the main form.
I have two unbound subforms on an unbound "display form". I managed to link the two subforms by following this method: [URL] This is great and works well enough, however, by design, subform2 will only display records relevant to the very first record on subform1. I need subform2 to be filtered based on ALL of the relevant records being displayed in subform1 not just the first one.
Previously, subform2 was based on a query using subform1's records as criteria, but this gave me the same result.
I'm trying to create a record for a table that has 2 attributes:
ContainsTracks +album +tracks
I have my main form, where the album is determined by a TextBox. My subform has a textbox that lists the tracks (in datasheet view). I have this set up and working fine.At the moment if I try to add a new record by typing a new entry into the subform I get the error: "Index or primary key can not contain a null value". This is because both album and tracks make the composite primary key of ContainsTracks.
My question is, how can I tell the subform to grab the value from TextBox1 in the main form as the +album when I create a new record.I have provided two screenshot that perhaps explain my predicament a bit better
Basically, I've created a form to track maintenance requests for specific types of equipment. Basically it's like a ticketing system.
Once a user creates the request, I want to use a subform (I guess this is the best way) to let them add data to that specific main form record to track the progress of the request until the repair is made and the "ticket" is closed out.
Do I need to create another table for the "progress reports" (for lack of a better term) or should this be done using some sort of an append query?
I've seen plenty of sample databases where they have a box within a form that looks like a datasheet where these types of "update" notes can be added and then submitted with the click of a button, but I've never been able to get at the code behind it.
I have a navigation tab with 6 sections, of the 6, 5 of them are self-made split view with a form view on top and datasheet on bottom and upon adding records through a command button on form view I would like the datasheets to update.
On other forms it would (I believe) update to the bottom of the datasheet, now on the ones I've been banging my head against it either replaces the top record or doesn't show up unless I switch tabs and switch back. From my searches I assume this is in need of a requery...
The situation is i have two forms, looking at the same table, but the main table shows more records, I would like to select a record in the datasheet subform and have the main form flick through to the corresponding record.
I have a main form "frmDriverNoticeRecord" with 2 subforms, "frmSubDriverNotice" and "frmSubVehicleRecord"..The main form uses "IncidentID" as the PK. Each form stores data in its own table. The tables are related via IncidentID and there is a 1-many relationship between tblIncident (main) and tblDN (sub) and tblVehicle (sub).
I have a form "frmIncidentLog" displaying records in a table view with a few fields for quick reference and to allow selection of a single record for detailed viewing. I created a command button with the intent to open the "frmDriverNoticeRecord" at the current record. The main form and child link fields appear to be linked correctly; i.e. IncidentID on all three. If I open the form manually it opens and I can use it and search and filter as I want. If I try to open it via the command button It opens a small window asking for the IncidenID, when I enter theIncidentID number, it opens the form to the first record every time. Here is the code:
Private Sub comOpenDR_Click()
Dim frmName As String Dim recID As String frmName = "frmDriverNoticeRecord" recID = "[IncidentID]=" & Me![IncidentID] DoCmd.OpenForm frmName, , , recID End Sub
I tried running the the DoCmd.OpenForm command directly from the button using the where condition (in various manners) with the same results.
When using Access 2007, I have a new record button, but that record is only written to the db once you navigate away from it. How do I write immediately to the DB, so that record is saved without navigating away from it. I believe I can use ADO or DAO but I'm having difficulties.
I am creating an events database. In my main form, I have all the details of a single event (billing code, fees, customer, support personnel, etc.). Then, I have a subform (form view) that lists each of the other services which share an event ID (this ID comes from a separate, unrelated events management suite). In the subform, I display the most-commonly-edited fields so that they are editable without navigating to a different record.
However, there will be instances where it becomes necessary to navigate to one of the records listed in the subform. I would like to make this a quick process by just clicking on the primary key in the subform, and have the corresponding record appear in the main form.
In my searches I've found a common suggestion to use a DoCmd.OpenForm method where the form opens to that specific record -- in effect filtering by the primary key number. I don't prefer this method because it disables the ability to navigate to other records using the previous, next, find records, (etc.) buttons without closing and re-opening the form.
Is there a way to make the main form 'jump' to a specific record by clicking on a control in the subform, without limiting the ability to navigate in the main form?
Hi with the help of this site, i have made big advances in learning and adapting code, in building my access FE on an SQL BE.
however, i have a problem, i cant find any information on in how to resolve.
i am using menus to navigate between forms, but i cannot synchronise the critical value between the forms.
so i am on a form with critical value, say hullID
i use a menu command to open another form, but i need the form to open with the same hullID as the critical value as the previous form which is about to close.
because i can go to the new form from any form, using the menu command, i cannot directly link the critical value,
is there a way to use the critical value from the current focus form, to the new opening form
I have made an access database for doing inventory at work. We have an inventory of approx. 700 items that need to be counted each month. I have a subform that is in datasheet view, it has Inventory IDs, product descriptions, UOMs, and a field to enter quantities. On the parent form are pictures and extra descriptions linked to each item in the subform.
The Inventory IDs all start with a 3 letter alpha code for which class of item they are PLU for plumbing, FAS for fasteners, ELD for electrical device, etc. There are about 15 different classes of these inventory items. The rest of the InvIDs are 4 digits: (PLU5453 or ELD1123)
We are using tablets to do the inventory counts, so to search for an item we can swipe through the datasheet to find the InvIDs we are looking for and then enter the quantity. After our initial inventory my supervisor asked if I could add buttons to jump to the first item in a particular class of item such as PLU0001. He showed me his address book in his phone as an example, how he can push a P button to bring him to the first name that starts with P.
I considered tabs for each class, but he wants to navigate to other items by just swiping also. I tried to make a Macro that would use Go To Record but was unable to make that work.
First thing: I have a navigation form that leads through 5 subforms on my database. One is a data entry form, the rest are various informative forms with explanations, images and other text mainly. In this scenario, a user enters data on the first tab but doesn't finish it. The user clicks over to check up on some guidelines on the other tabs and then comes back to the first tab for find that all of the fields he entered reset and he lost everything.
Is there a way of preventing this from happening? Plan A would be for me to allow the user to switch around tabs without losing the data he or she entered into textboxes or dropdowns. Plan B would be for me to have a popup that appears when he tries to switch tabs that warns him of data loss and that he should save before moving tabs.
PS: One other thing: I have the standard Access wizard search button on my first tab that allows the user to search records. This works well, but I'd like for the search box to close immediately after a search turns up a matching record. This seems odd, but the users requested it because manually closing the search box after every search can add up to a lot of wasted time.
Having a bit of a problem with a 'cattery management' database I'm working on, wonder if anyone can suggest anything pls...
From the main form "OwnersAndCats" (Main table from 'tblOwners', subform from 'tblCats') the user can either add a new cat for a current owner or a new owner, both of which are popup forms.
If the user adds a new cat to the currently selected owner, when they save and close the data entry popup form 'AddCat' I want the main form "OwnersAndCats" to be updated with the newly added cat and the form to display the owner which has just had the cat added.
If the user adds a new owner, they can either just add an owner and return to the main form or go on to add cats before returning - but either way I want the same thing to happen, ie the end result is having the main form "OwnersAndCats" displayed at the record which has just been added.
The problem I'm having is like this. The code below seems to work perfectly if I add a new cat to one of the six sample owners I imported to the table 'tblOwners' from an excel spreadsheet, but when I try it on newly created owners I get the message 'You cant go to the specified record'. Even after I get this message when trying it on one of the newly created owners I can go back to adding a cat for one of the original six and it works perfectly.
I also get the same message when I try to create a new owner then close out back to the main form. I'm sure it must be a very simple thing I'm doing wrong so if anyone can spot the mistake I'd really appreciate it! In fact if anyone can even suggest an easier way to achieve what I'm trying to do that'd also be very useful - the code's untidy I know, but I am very much a novice still - the only reason I've used the method below to show an updated form is because I'm led to believe you can't just close a popup form and simply refresh the main one behind it...
Here's the code for btnACSave on form "AddCat"
Private Sub btnACSave_Click()
Dim stDocName As String Dim stDocName2 As String stDocName = "OwnersAndCats" stDocName2 = "AddCat"
YesNo = MsgBox("This cat has been added successfully, do you want to add another cat for this owner?", vbYesNo + vbQuestion, "Add More Cats?") Select Case YesNo Case vbYes DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNext Case vbNo Select Case stFormName Case "OwnersAndCats" DoCmd.Close acForm, stDocName2 DoCmd.Close acForm, stDocName DoCmd.OpenForm stDocName DoCmd.GoToRecord acDataForm, stDocName, acGoTo, stLinkOwnerID Case Else Call Init_Globals(Me, OwnerID) DoCmd.Close End Select End Select
YesNo = MsgBox("The owner has been added successfully, do you want to add a cat(s) now for this owner?", vbYesNo + vbQuestion, "Add Cats?") Select Case YesNo Case vbYes Call Init_Globals(Me, OwnerID) stLinkCriteria = "[OwnerID]=" & stLinkOwnerID DoCmd.OpenForm stDocName3, , , stLinkCriteria Case vbNo YesNo = MsgBox("Do you want to add another owner?", vbYesNo + vbQuestion, "Add More Owners?") Select Case YesNo Case vbYes DoCmd.GoToRecord , , acNext Case vbNo Select Case stFormName Case "OwnersAndCats", "AddCat" DoCmd.Close acForm, stDocName2 DoCmd.Close acForm, stDocName DoCmd.OpenForm stDocName DoCmd.GoToRecord acDataForm, stDocName, acGoTo, stLinkOwnerID Case Else DoCmd.Close End Select End Select End Select
I need to navigate through all records for a table where a <field> = a certain "string". Ideally I would have a next record button that would know to ignore records that do not meet my criteria?
Simply put, Next available record where <field> = "string"?
I'm having a problem with a form/subform. The table I'm using includes the fields: date, personnelID, status, comments. The main form has a single field, date. The subform has the fields date, personnelID, status, comments. I have the form/subform linked using the Date field, because there are multiple instances of the same date in the table, I have to keep clicking the navigation buttons on the main form to go through all the duplicate dates to get to the next one. Is there a way I can filter the Date field on the Main form to only show one copy of each date? I had thought about creating a new table with only a date field and no duplicates, then just append all dates from the main table to this one and use it to go through the dates, however I'd rather not have to make an extra table just for this. This is basically for personnel accountability, I want to be able to select a date on the main form and display the "daily status"(present, on leave) for each person in the subform.
Even better would be if I could create a next and previous button to switch the date on the main form(I know how to do this.) but how would I get the subform to update the records to the date on the main form and keep it from going to dates that don't exist?
I have a form that reads records from a query.. It loads the first record into the form, without issue.
Code: Sub FormLoaded() Dim r As DAO.Recordset Set r = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("Results") ' Query we want Forms("frmmainnew").lbladdUser1bad.Visible = False
[Code] ....
Now I have have 2 buttons at the bottom of the form, one for next record and another for previous record...
Code for next record
Sub NextRecordbtn() Dim r As DAO.Recordset Set r = CurrentDb.OpenRecordset("Results") ' Query we want r.MoveNext If r.EOF = True Then
[Code] ....
I know that I have 3 records that result in the query named "Results", the next record button will bring the form from record 1, to record 2... however it will not move from the 2nd to the 3rd record...
What i'm trying to do is add a new record to a subform. The problem is, I couldn't use a subform based on a table in order to achieve this. I needed extended information for it to be useful, so I made the visible part of the subform based on a query instead.I'd like to add a button that adds a new object to the main job. I'd like the adding of that button to call a new form allows you to fill in the information for that object (this called form actually contains 5 subforms to populate all the data of the object). That form works.
What I need is for the button to call the 2nd detailed form AND create the necessary entries in the project/object junction table. The idea as it is now is a button on the main form, but if it was possible to do so via continuous form in a subform, that's doable.
I want a user to be able to create a new record in the main form, after they have finished filling in the boxes in a subform by pressing the Enter key, rather than having to click the 'new record' button on the main form.
I reckon I need a 'default button' on the subform but I have no idea what this should do when clicked to create the new record...
I have tried everywhere for a solution to this:mad: Any help is much appreciated.
I have a main form with a subform. The subform shows related records using a match criteria. Each record that shows in the subform also has a unique ID. This unique ID is also shown on the main form record (although not used to link the main and sub forms).
I would like to be able to click on a command button on each of the records in the subform and goto the Main form record. I can't find any threads that deal with this though - sorry!
