Forms :: Pass Listbox Value To Query?
Jan 14, 2015
I just got stuck with the following. I have a listbox where I have some values. I want to use the value of the first listbox to pass this to a query. I have the below code:
Code:
Private Sub List28_GotFocus()
' Limit the subject emails in the list box
Me.List28.RowSource = "SELECT [Subject] " & "FROM tbl_eMail_Archive " & " WHERE [FolderName] " & "Me.List23.Value"
' Refresh the list box
Me.List28.Requery
End Sub
why it is not working?

I've a method **querylistboxitems** and i want to call this method in several click events, only difference is listbox,dropdown values change based on the event i call.
Code:
Public Sub querylistboxitems(lstbox As listbox, dropdown As ComboBox)
Dim drpdwnvalue As String
drpdwnvalue = dropdown.Value
With lstbox
//do something
End with
End Sub
And I'm calling this in the buttion click event by passing the listbox names as **List_Compare** and **Select_CM_Compare**
Code:
Private Sub Command_compare_Click()
Call querylistboxitems_1(List_Compare, Select_CM_Compare)
End Sub
But the values passing to the function are not control names, control values i.e corresponding control selected values.
I want to use listbox name in **lstbox**, not the value.

All -
For the life of me I can't get the Multiselect Listbox to correctly pass along all of the item selections to a Query which a form is based on.
I've been up and down the forum, and I can't figure out what piece of code to use and how to use it successfully.
I've been able to get a string created using the example posted here (http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=47909) and it's in the format of "54,67,89,100" etc.
Public Function
Public Function fMultiSelect(ctlRef As ListBox) As Variant
Dim Criteria As String
Dim i As Variant
' Build criteria string from selected items in list box.
Criteria = ""
For Each i In ctlRef.ItemsSelected
If Criteria <> "" Then
Criteria = Criteria & ","
End If
Criteria = Criteria & Format(ctlRef.ItemData(i), "0000000")
Next i
fMultiSelect = Criteria
gMultiSelect = Criteria
End Function
Call:
Call fMultiSelect(Forms!frmPreSPIPComp!lstProjects)
I now need to pass that string to a Query. Once it's been passed to the query, I can open the report based on it.
Essentially I have a button that will perform the string creation, and I would then like to open a report. I want to base the report off of a query and then have the query use Criteria to dwindle down the report.
Am I missing something here?
The long explanation:
I have a single form that allows for the selection of the report. Once the report is selected, certain fields appear that allow for certain criteria to be selected (ie. Class Name, Multi-Select Class Name, Student Names, Multi select Student Names, Dates, etc.)
Once the report has been selected and the criteria set, a user hits a single button that runs the specific report.
Any better ideas of how to set this up. The reports will ultimately be basing their criteria on what the form has in all of it's unbound fields.
I also have a table that specifies the Display Name, actual Report Name for the button to figure out what report to run.
Bottom Line. I want to use a Listbox to filter a report. If I can use a query to base the report off of even better. I don't want to create the SQL in VBA.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Is it possible to have a macro button to pass query results to a listbox? I have a database where I have some fields with dates. What I need to do is to show a list of all cases that have a start date (and also the end date). So I will have 2 buttons, one that says "show started cases" and second one "show closed cases". If I press the first button, it will run a query and show only those cases that have a date filled in the started case field. I made a button that shows the results in a report, but I would like to have it show up in a listbox so I can double click it and go straight to the case.

1. I have created a parameter query in access 2010. This parameter is on only one field.
2. I have created a multi-select list box in a form so that users can select one of more items.
I want to pass the selected items as parameters to the save access query.

I have a form that the user can add Work Order numbers to a text box and pass them to a listbox to collect 1 or more values. Each of which need a separate report with the labour hours for each Work Order.
I am having issues figuring out how to get it to pass them to a query or filter the reports.
I have tried many different examples and nothing seems to work.

I am using the selections made of the form to generate a query for the user.
I have a CITIES listbox that is populated with values from a stored query.
I would like to make it multi-select and populate a LOCATIONS list box and a NAMES list box based upon the CITIES that are selected.
I have the locations currently populated from a stored query that reads the City selection from the Form. It looks like this
Code:
SELECT DISTINCT (t_location.LOCATION) AS Expr1
FROM t_location INNER JOIN t_asset_master ON t_location.LOCATION_PHY_ID = t_asset_master.LOCATION
WHERE (((t_location.CITY)=[Forms]![MasterQueryGenerator]![CityList]));
I also want multi-select so that is you can un-select all and get the results for all cities.
Here is my half thought approach.
Code:
Private Sub CityList_AfterUpdate()
'Dim LocQryStr As String
'Dim r As Integer
'Dim ctl9 As Control
'LocQryStr = "SELECT DISTINCT (t_location.LOCATION) " & _
[Code] ...
I intended to have the variable LocQryStr as the row source but I abandoned the idea of having multi-select when I saw that .Selected(I) never returned true. Its like the values aren't read in this subroutine.

I've got the following query as the row source for a listbox on a main form. cboShootName is a combobox on that same form.
Code:
SELECT DISTINCT QrySbfShotList.CamerasFK, tblCameras.CameraNum
FROM QrySbfShotList INNER JOIN tblCameras ON QrySbfShotList.CamerasFK = tblCameras.CamerasID
WHERE (((QrySbfShotList.shootsFK)=[me]![cboShootName]))
UNION
SELECT null, "(ALL)" FROM QrySbfShotList INNER JOIN tblCameras ON QrySbfShotList.CamerasFK = tblCameras.CamerasID
WHERE (((QrySbfShotList.shootsFK)=[me]![cboShootName]));
When the form loads, it prompts for a value for me.cboShootName, even though I've given the list box a default value. More important, after the cboShootName is established, ie. in its after update event, if I put
Me.lstCamera.requery (lstCamera is the list box in question), the system prompts me for the value of me!cboShootName. I know the cboShootName is in scope because I see its value with a msgbox diagnostic.
The first column of both the cboShootName and lstCamera refer to numeric fields. Both controls are unbound.
What am I missing? Is there a trick to referencing control values in a query?

Now I have coded what I think should work for my listboxes and it does not. When I click it does nothing. No processing of anything.
I have 11 multi-listboxes and want to collect what the user selects from each one and then use it to run my query. The query only uses 4 of the listbox items and then 4 other items that I have in the query. I want to be able to display this in the same form or perhaps a subform. Here is my code:
Code:
Private Sub command8_click()
' Update the record source
If BuildFilter = "" Then
Me.frmQual_Sub.Form.RecordSource = "select * from qualq1 where " & BuildFilter
End If
[Code] .....

Okay then, after much trouble and confusion, I finally realized I need to use an Extended listbox in order to allow for multiple items to be selected from a list on my form (rather than the evil multiple selection combobox!).
However, now I am trying to figure out how to make one listbox (IndustryClassification) only be visible if the item "Industry" is selected in another listbox (TypeOfBusiness). Coding I can use for this in the AfterUpdate event of the listbox?

I have a search form that uses several comboboxes, textboxes and checkboxes that are used as criteria in a query. You enter in the relevant information, hit search and a report opens based on the filtered query.
What I would like to do is change one of these combo boxes to a listbox and use the multiple selection as the query criteria. I know it's not as simple as just putting the listbox as a criteria in the query, and I've also tried many different variations on the varItem and strWhere code.

Good afternoon, I have a form with a subform and in the first txtbox of the subform in the GotFocus event I have a little procedure which checks the txtboxs on the parent to make sure that there is data in all four of the txtboxes. This works great the first time and it pops up a msgbox and it even setsfocus on the txtbox with no data in it, but if I tab into the subform a second time and there still is no data in one of the txtboxs on the parent form, nothing happens, no message and no setting focus on the txtbox with no data in it. Does anyone know of a way to get this procedure to re-set everytime a user tries to enter the subform? Thank you in advance to anyone offering and ideas and suggestions.

I've got a code that allows me to select one or many names from a listbox on a form and return data relevant to the name(s) selected from a query. The following code is triggered by a button on the form...
Private Sub Toggle4_Click()
'Set it all up for CSM selection
Dim db As DAO.Database
Dim qdf As DAO.QueryDef
Dim varItem As Variant
Dim strCriteria As String
Dim strSQL As String
[code]....
(Toggle 10 goes to the code for the second listbox which has the same code with different tables refered to giving two selections in the query.)
What I want to do is replace the "warning if nothing found" with a code to show data against all the names in the list box if nothing is selected in the listbox.

I have a form with a list box. This list box has a row source that I've set as a query for five different fields with a where clause. This where clause should pick up a value that is already within the form. And this is where I think it's going wrong, because if returns no results, but if I set it to point at the same value from another form (previous to this one, it does work). So there is something about the order or something so that this variable isn't passed to my listbox when it executes.
So, my list box has: select ID, title from table where ID = [Forms]![CurrentFormName]![ID]
and it doesn't work.However if I add a text field and set that to point at =[ID] then this does display the ID. And if I amend my query to point at this text field using the same convention above, that doesn't work either.
I presume I am mis-referencing, or there is something in the order that the listbox loads and it does this before the ID is set?

I have a list box that is correctly listing resources from a table (tblResource). I would like to select one of the list box entry and run a query against the tblResource to show the information for that resource in a form. I have tried to use the lstindex with the control (lstResource) in the where clause of a query to accomplish this with no success.

Hi, I'm new here, so I hope I'm posting this in the correct place. I've searched the forum to see if there are any existing threads that might help me, but I've not found anything that does...
(I think this thread ( http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=93444&highlight=Copying+data )may be trying to achieve something similar to me, but I'm a beginner and don't really understand it)
I shall stop waffling! I'm not entirely sure that what I'm trying to achieve is possible, I expect it probably is!
Right, I have a form (frmGroupRegister, which contains exactly the same fields as the table it comes from, tblGroupRegister), which consists of three things:
-GroupDate - The date a group took place on. It is my primary key, as no more than one group occurs on a specific date.
-ParentList (A listbox which contains a query showing the ID number, forename and surname of everyone in a table, tblParentDetails)
-ParentsAttending (A blank listbox)
I would like to place buttons in between the ParentList and ParentsAttending, which would allow users to conduct a 'register' of attendance by copying individual/multiple details from ParentList into ParentsAttending (much like you get when choosing which fields to include in a form when using a wizard for example). I would also like them to be able to remove people from ParentsAttending by using a button in case of accidentally adding the wrong person into the ParentsAttending box.
I'm aware that another, probably simpler way of achieving this would be to use a tick-box system, but I feel that visually, the first method would both look better and demonstrate who is present more clearly.
Any help would be much appreciated, but my Access skills are quite basic and things will probably need to be spelled out for me.
I'm using Access 2000 and Windows XP.
Thanks for your help,
Alice :)

Hello everyone,
I tried to post this yesterday but it didn't go through for some reasons.
I've attached my database that contains student, classes, and couple other tables. I also created couples of forms and I wanted to register a single student to multiple classes at once.
For example: There're 3 classes (Math, English, History) on 1/3/2006. Student A wants to register 2 classes, Math and English. I should be able to check those two and submit and I'm done.
Currently, I have to select Math and assigns to student A, then select English. That's not good at all. What if there're 10 classes in one day and a student just want to register 8 classes? I have to do eight times.
It'd be great if you could help me. Thank you in advance.
Isabel

Debug.print totalold, total
DoCmd.RunSQL "update hoursbilled set hours = (hours - totalold), extended = ((hours - totalold)*45) where customer=cust AND employee=empl AND friday=grabfriday;"
The Debug shows the actual value in totalold, but when the query line executes, there's a pop up asking for a value for the totalold field?

Hi,
I have a database that controls donations for a Charity. There is to be a sister charity added to the database and a lot of the previously created objects can be used to provide for the new Charity.
My idea was to create a "company" ID and label the categories of the donations. I could then use this company ID to identify to whom the data captured belongs.
I have used the switchboard manager to enable navigation, in this I have a ONload event procedure that requests the Company ID (1 or 2).
That's as far as I have got.
How would I get Switchboard to open each form (some being based on queries - a couple direct on the tables) and filter the data on the company ID?
If there is a better way, please enlighten me!! :)
Many thanks in advance
daz.

Firstly, is it possible to hide unchecked values in a listbox? I have a user with several roles and I want to only show the ticked roles in the listbox.
Secondly, can you create a hyperlink on listbox values? i.e, if I click on "Manager" in the roles listbox, it follows that to another form and opens the record about managers?
