Forms :: Populate A Table Based On Selections Made Within A Form

Apr 27, 2015

So I'm trying to populate a table based on selections I make within a form.

The form is based of a query that pulls a new product category that needs to be added to my first reference table for products.

The form shows all the new unique product codes, and there is a drop down box with product categories whose source is also the first reference table, so a new code would be:

'JBL - TRX - FVB - TRZ' And based on that new info, I would select from the drop down to select the corresponding category and click 'Add Record' button.

I'm building the event for the button and the code is as follows so far :

Private Sub Add_Record_Click()
End Sub
Private Sub cmbAdd_Record_Click()
'add data to table
CurrentDb.Execute "INSERT INTO tblPVMTable(PVMJoinField, SummaryPVMCategory) " & _

[Code] ....

I keep getting errors with the main portion of code.

Name of table fields :

PVMJoinField
SummaryPVMCategory

Name of Query Fields Populating the Form:

PVM_JOIN_FIELD
cboSummaryPVMCategory

Cascading Combo Boxes - Interact And Record Selections Made In New Records Within Destination Table

Sep 12, 2012

I am trying to get a series of combo boxes to interact and record the selections made in new records within a destination table. Here is situation with respect to the tables involved:

1 table lists the names/acronyms of various research facilities and the branch to which they belong (acronym is PK)
1 table lists Financial Points of Contact for each facility (acronym is FK to relate to earlier table)
1 table lists Technical Points of Contact for each facility (acronym is FK to relate to Facility table)
1 table lists program participants and the branch they belong to (Branch in FK to relate to Facility table)

I am trying to create a form that allows me to set the participant and, from this selection, restricts the facility choices in the Facility combo box to those that fall within the branch to which the participant is assigned. I think the next step is pretty obvious too. Once the facility is selected I have combo boxes that would only display those Financial and Technical PoCs assigned to that facility.

I have watched the 4 Data Pig tutorials and I can easily make functional cascading combo boxes as long as they only refer to the look up tables. I generated perfectly functioning cascading combo boxes on a test form. How do I generate combo boxes that will then store the info selected in my destination table? Whenever I try to set a Control Source it disrupts the functioning of the queries.

If positive is chosen the text box populates with "positive" and
If other is selected the text box populates with "unspecified".

Forms :: Populate Text Box From Table Based On Combo Box Value

I am trying to populate the text boxes in a form with data from a table based on the selection a user has made in a combobox. I am trying to do this through a DLOOKUP in the text boxes Control Source using the following:

Code:
=DLookUp("[upMobile]","tblRepName","[tblRepName].[repContactMobile] = " & Str([upRepName].[Text]))

in the form when viewing the data.

Forms :: Auto Populate Field Based On Combination In Different Table

Oct 17, 2014

I have two forms - Main and StudentAdvisor (filtered by student ID#) SAdvisor.jpg

The main form originally had a combo box field to display advisor, the problem is that some students had multiple advisors during the course of their program. This problem was fixed by the creation of a StudentAdvisor (table/form) for recording ALL advisors. I set the form to display by newest term so the current advisor (or initial if no change) is the displayed record.

On the main form I then added "add" to open the StudentAdvisor form for entering information, and an unbound txtfield to display their current advisor (or initial advisor if no change).

The problem is I can not get the txtfield to display the information. I have managed to get the error ( #Name?)

Advisor Type 1=Initial, 2=Current, 3=Previous
Changed 1=Yes, 2=N/A

so a record would record as:
Initial and N/A
Current and Yes
Previous and Yes

I tried writing DLookup but could not get that to look up the combinations (above) and display either initial or current.

also tried pulling form SA = Advisor to form Main = txtAdvisor

For report purposes I need to know not only current advisor but how many were assigned during the program and also how many students each advisor was assigned during certain time frames.

Second Combo Made Visible Based On Associations Table And Query

Dec 30, 2007

I have a form that is used for recording test scores. The first selection that is made is a type of test. After the test is selected, some tests have a second sub-type of test that needs to be recorded. My quetion lies in how to hide or grey out this second combo box until a test is selected that requires it.

I don't want to "hard-code" it in the sense that I create an If Else statement that requires looking at values from the 1st test type combo box. I want to make sure that the DB is scalable and when additional tests are added, additional sub tests can be added if necessary.

If this makes sense and anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate it.

Forms :: Populate Form Fields Based On Selection In Another Field

Jul 18, 2013

I have a Customers table and an Orders table. My Customers table is a bit different than the norm because I couldn't figure out any other way to do this.

My client's customers are either businesses (companies) with a contact person, or individual customers. So, in the Customers table, I have the following fields (there are others but do not apply to my problem):

Customer ID
Company
Contact
Customer

So, if it is a company the data entry person would enter the company name and the full name (EX: Doe, John) in the contact field, but if it is an individual customer, then they would leave Company and Contact blank and enter just the Customer name (Ex: Doe, Jane).

So, in the Orders table, I have combo boxes for look ups for the fields Company and Customer.

That works okay, but I would really like for the Customer ID to post into a text box once the Company or Customer has been selected. In other words, the input person would enter the name, then it would show that Customer's ID #.

Forms :: Populate Textbox Based On Others Within Form Being Null Or Filled

I am fairly new to Access and trying to populate a text box based on whether other textboxes throughout the form contain a date or are null, so as I update the progress of work the textbox that I have located in the header will indicate the status of work flow, this is what I thought might work but I seem to be doing something wrong.

Code:
Private Sub Form_AfterUpdate()

Status = IIf([Date_Raised] Is Not Null, "Open", "")
Status = IIf([Approved_Date] Is Not Null, "Approved", "")

Queries :: Deleting Records Based On Selections From Another Table

Apr 1, 2013

I am trying to create a Delete query.

I am trying to delete a specific part from multiple BOMs in my database.

I have a table of the BOMs that I want to look in. I called this table PartTable. I also linked my database table SYSADM.REQUIREMENT which contains all the requirement parts for all of our BOMs.

So I am wanting to delete only part number 123XX from each of the BOMs in my PartTable.

I am able to select the records with:

Code:
SELECT SYSADM_REQUIREMENT.*
FROM SYSADM_REQUIREMENT INNER JOIN PartTable ON SYSADM_REQUIREMENT.WORKORDER_BASE_ID = PartTable.PART_ID
WHERE (((SYSADM_REQUIREMENT.WORKORDER_TYPE)="M") AND ((SYSADM_REQUIREMENT.WORKORDER_BASE_ID)=[PartTable].[PART_ID]) AND ((SYSADM_REQUIREMENT.WORKORDER_LOT_ID)="0") AND ((SYSADM_REQUIREMENT.PART_ID)="123XX"));

Now how do I delete these same records.

I am getting error saying I have to select a table to delete from....

Forms :: Auto Populate Subform Based On Selection In Parent Form

Apr 30, 2015

I've got a Parent form (frmProspectDetails) with a subform linked (fsubProspectSkill).

This form is for users to enter general information on a prospect (names, position, height, weight, etc) on the parent form and skill levels on the subform.

Currently the subform is set so the user has to manually select the specific skill set for the prospects position, and then enter a value for each skill level(1-99).

I'm trying to get the subform to auto populate with a specific skill set based on the position selected in the parent form, so the user only needs to input the skill level without selecting each specific skill.

This data is then stored in a table (tblProspectSkill)

To add, I've created a form (frmPosition) that lists the specific skills set for each position.

I'm not sure how to get this subform (fsubProspectSkill) to auto populate with the specified skill set from frmPosition.

Forms :: Display TextBox Value Based On Combobox Selections

Jun 5, 2015

I have a form that has 3 combo boxes and a text box that I want to be a lookup. I have a little experience with DLookUp, but I do not think that will work here. The three combo boxes are linked to queries, and Tables. The first combo box is for choosing "Precious" or "Base" metals. The second combo box is filtered from the first and displays the "Metal Names". The third combo box is to choose a "Metal Market". There are currently four options for that. I want the text box to display the "Metal Market Price" based on the second and third combo box selections.

Here is a screenshot of the table with all of the metals and their market prices filled in with dummy values for now:

metals screenshot 1.PNG
Metals screenshot 2.PNG

Here is a screenshot of the relevant Form: Metals form screenshot.PNG

Here is a screenshot of the Table that relates to the relevant form: Metals table design.PNG

Here is a screenshot of the Metal Market table that the Query is based on: Metal Market Table.PNG

Forms :: Updating Subform Using VBA Based On Specific Selections

Mar 8, 2013

I have a Form named 'Opening_Screen' which consists of various objects - Combo Boxes, RadioButtons, Check Boxes which the user can select.There is a subform called 'Report' within the 'Opening_Screen'. The source object of the subform is a query (called 'QueryX').

There is a button called 'Generate Report' on the form which when clicked - an SQL must run on the backend, update the query which in turn should update the Subform 'Report'.For me, the QueryX gets updated, but the subform doesn't. When I manually switch the form to Design View and then back to Form View - the subform gets updated. I tried the same through the vba code instead, but it doesn't update the subform.

Forms :: Filter Based On Multiple Selections - Referencing A Control On A Subform

Oct 23, 2013

I have a multi select list box which I am trying to use to open another form and apply a filter based on the user's multiple selections.

List box - lstCatergories
Main Form - frmSuppliersSummaryCategories
Subform on Main Form - frmSuppliersSummaryCategoriesSubForm

The Subform contains the text box CategoryID

Here's my code which nearly works...

Code:
Private Sub cmdFilterSuppliers_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_cmdFilterSuppliers_Click

Dim strWhere As String
Dim ctl As Control
Dim varItem As Variant

[Code] .....

My problem is that the control "CategoryID" is on the subform and I'm having massive problems trying to reference it. This is the part of my code that won't work:

Code:
DoCmd.OpenForm "frmSuppliersSummaryCategories", acNormal, , "CategoryID IN(" & strWhere & ")"

However; if I open the SubForm directly it works perfectly. I.e.

Code:
DoCmd.OpenForm "frmSuppliersSummaryCategoriesSubform", acFormDS, , "CategoryID IN(" & strWhere & ")"

To summarise... How do I reference the control "CategoryID" on the subform "frmSuppliersSummaryCategoriesSubform"?

Forms :: Get Main Form To Accept Changes Made To Underlying Subform?

Sep 24, 2014

I'm trying to resolve a problem with a form displayed as follows

MainForm
-->SubForm1 embedded in main form
--->SubForm2 embedded in SubForm1

When I edit subform2, then return to the mainform and edit a field on the mainform, I get an error.

'The data has been changed. Another user edited this record.... Re-edit the record.'

My understanding to resolve this is to do a requery. So I added:

Me.Parent.Requery
Me.Parent.Parent.Requery

as part of the LostFocus event for subform2. However, I now get a Write Conflict error when returning to a field in the main form. I get a dialog box with the option to Copy to Clipboard or Drop Changes. I can select Drop Changes and it will let me edit the main form afterwards.

This is Access 2010 over SQL. how to get the main form to accept the changes made to the underlying subform?

Form Selections To Convert On Table?

Oct 15, 2012

I've created a ComboBox and would like one of my selections: "Met" to be converted into a number value: "10" within the related field on the table.I've come up with the expression: =IF([Initial Review Q1]="Met",0,10)

Control Source accepts the expression, however when I go back to Form View and select "Met" access chimes and states: "Control can't be edited it's bound to the expression =if([Initial Review Q1]="met",0,10)".

Me.Text256 = DLookup("[Exp]", "[tblAutoGen]", "[Inuse] = -1")
Me.Text258 = DLookup("[Lot]", "[tblEthanol]", "[Inuse] = -1")

[Code] ....

I am using the code above on my form and it seems to be working. My question is there a way to populate a textbox (Text255) based off a login?

For example, lets say JSmith is loged in to the computer. Is there a way that JS could populate Text255? If then say JCarter is logged on, the JC populates Text255.

Forms :: How To Get Form In MS Access To Query Multi-selections

Jan 11, 2014

I'm really new to Access and using Office 2007. Comfortable with SQL but have no idea about VBA. How do I get the form to query multi-selections? For example if you download the attachment here and refer to "Form1", let's say the user multiselects BK and McD's for Vendor, burger for Food, and Coke for Beverage. It should be spitting out 3 records but instead spat out an empty table. I tied my last query "query2" with "Form1" to make them work hand-in-hand which filters the master table "Fast Food". Would I need to tweak the syntax seen in the "Criteria:" cells of "query2" to make them read in multiselections?

General :: Use Fields In Query Based Subform To Populate A Table

I would like the analysts to be able to add more granular information to a new table by inputting information in a dropdown field for one of the new table fields, but utilizing two of the existing sub-forms fields as identifiers in the new table.

Forms :: Auto Populate Text Boxes Based On Value From Combo Box

Company
Address1
Address2
City
ZP
State

The form contains controls for these fields on tblPO. I would like to give the user the choice to either enter a shipping address manually, or selecting a preregistered address from tblAdresses. For this I would like a combo box showing the values of idAddress. I f a user selects a preregistered shipping address, I would like the form to fill the rest of the fields based on the value of this control.

My understanding is that I should set a BeforeUpdate event to set the values of the different controls, unfortunately my command of VBA amounts to 0.

There are two fields in particular that I am working on ... "WasteType" and "Rate".

On the form, I want "WasteType" to be a combobox "cboWasteType" and when I select a type of waste I want the "Rate" textbox on the same form to auto populate with the rate amount for that particular type of waste (i.e. recycling, garbage, etc).

The Rate amount is located in the table: tblWasteType under the field name "Rate". How can I do this and at the same time store the information in the tblWeightTickets?
