I have a Table with 6 fields, 2 are named Initial and Surname. Is it at all possible to have a combo box on a form with these to fields "joined" with the alphabetical order on the Surname. I understand that using a query will not work as the result is based on an expression
View RepliesI have a report that generates 100 items in alphabetical order. All of the items are also displayed in a table. I have a bound form attached to the that table, and when the items appear they are not in alphabetical order. Therefore, it is a hassle typing in the data when the form will not appear in order, because instead of going in order I am flipping through pages. What is causing this to happen? And what can I do to fix this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have inserted a bar chart onto a form using a totals query. The query is grouped by days on stock, eg. '0-30', '30-60', '60-90' etc. which is therefore the labels on the x-axis.
The chart displays the correct data, however, the chart automatically displays the categories on the x-axis in alphabetical order... '0-30', '120-180', '30-60' etc.. Is there anyway to adjust this order to be eg. '0-30', '30-60', '60-90' etc?

I have created a form with a drop down box so that I can click on a client in the drop down box and it will pull the information from that clients record.. my question is :
Is there a way of having the clients names in the drop down box listed in alphabetical order without it changing the order in my table? My table is listed in order of project numbers not client names.
The main form of our contacts database has its source in a query which places all contacts in alphabetical order by surname. How do I get the query to sort by surname and then by first name? Also, how can I get the query to run each time a new contact is added so they are put into alphabetical order when they are saved, rather than appearing at the end of the list?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am currently using Access 2007, where I used to be able to concentrate First Name and Surname Fields by simply using:
= [First Name] &" "& [Surname]
However I have downloaded Access Run Time 2010 on the other employees computers so they will be able to access the Database, however since i have done this the First Name and Surname do not appear, it simply shows:
#Name?
I am guessing this is because it is a newer version, however even when I open the Database with Access 2007 it still does not work, even if I delete it and add it again.
If I use order by on a query that has two linked tables I keep getting an error:

I have at least 3 relates tables in my access database.the first(sessions) table stores session detailes like id,date,time
The second one (tblemployees) contains our employees details like name, idp ,the third (attreq) relates the first table to second it stores ids of sessions and ids of personals that which determine which personals have attended in special sessions.
Now,my problem is that I want when a personnel log in and opens "confirmed session"form ,the access check and open records that this person have attended. How can I do it?
am trying to change the tab order but have noticed that some of the fields are missing from the tab order form. I am attaching a screenshot to show which tabs are missing.

What I am trying to do is create a data entry form to an "order table" using 2 cascading combo boxes. I have created a data entry form based on a query. I can't get the cascading combo boxes to work properly.Here is the code:

Now I now with the group function I could group by the firstname_ field but the results would group like the following

And if I do it by surname, well I am sure you get the drift.
So how can I sort so I would get the following
Bob Smith
Bob Smith
Bob Holmes
etc etc.....
I can not, or not allowed to enter data in fields in a query built from three tables that are jointed by a common field with the same name. The parent table is linked to another Access data base as is one child table the other is local data. Also, I am not able to view the child table data when viewing the parent table.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a client database that has recently had multiple duplicate entries. I need to reduce or negate this erroneous activity. I have a client table where I record amongst others, the following;

I believe that to prevent duplicate entrie via form I have created an additional field called "unique" given it as a unique index which I want to have populated with the joined fields first_name & last_name & dob (IE johndoe01/01/90), and then as user enters a new client it wont allow a duplicate.
However I need to fill all the existing customers (3600+) with the relevant joined existing data. If I create an expression I can cajoin the fields in a select query but when I try to make an update query the same syntax comes up with empty fields.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have just created a combo box to list and select all of the records in my database so they can be selected quickly, however for some reason the list is not in the correct order.
I have been back to the table and sorted all of the records into ascending order based on the field that is being used in the combo drop down box, but it is still not correct.
There must be an easy way to put them in order. Do i need to change the primary key so that it corresponds the field i am using to search or is it more comlicated than this??
Also, I created a form using the form creation wizard and now i have a grey stone background that i would like to get rid of. How do i do this? There only seem to be 9 or 10 pre-made formats to choose from?

I'm trying to create a form using a combo box to populate multiple fields and tables.
I've created a text field to display the added information using this format:
=Comboboxname.Column(x)
in the text box control source field, and this works for display purposes.However, I need it to populate this data into a field on a table.
For example:
My combo box looks up data that has 2 columns, Part Number and Description.
The control source for the combo box is "Part Number". And that populates the part number in the "Main" table no problem.
The text box I created using the above format in the control source populates the field in the form, but not the "Main" table.
Is there a way for the other (description) field to also populate the "Main" table as well?
I just need a simple method to prevent a member being imput twice on a form.

I have a form for user to select multiple items from a combo box, and 18 unbound text boxes , each time user selects an item in combo and hits "add" the value appears in txt box by order, I mean select1 then "add" filling txtbox1, select2 then "add" filling txtbox2 ... and so on till we reach txtbox18, then msg box appears that he filled the whole 18 boxe. I have already done this before for one txtbox which is a very simple operation, but i cannot figure out how to do it with multiple txtboxes.

In the buttons click event I am using a public function (named Sort_1) to change the sort order. The first element of the event call is the name of a generic query (named Sort_1_Query1) and the query field to sort (LAST_NAME OR FRIST_NAME, depending on the button.)This is the Click Statement.

I think the problem is in the use of quotation marks or trying to pass the query field name to the Do Command or the use of an ampersand.
I have a problem with a cascading form, which writes back to another table. The scenario is:
There are three tables. Users, Departments & SubDepartments.
Each table has an Autonumber set as the primary key .
The form is to write back to the user table, and within the user table there is a Department & SubDepartment field. These are linked to the relevant tables and all that works.
For the form I have two combo boxes for Department and SubDepartment. Department simply pulls from the Departments table and displays/writes back to User table correctly.
The SubDepartment is the one I am having problems with. I have got it to cascade correctly but here is the exact issue:
On the existing records the subdepartment is being displayed as a number (the primary key autonumber). The drop down list displays the text of what the subdepartment is (which is what I require) but then when that is selected it throws up the error that the value entered isn't correct for that field. I guess it's because it wants to write back the numerical record ID rather than the text from the other field.
The row source query is SELECT [qrySubDepartment].[SubDepartmentName] FROM qrySubDepartment ORDER BY [SubDepartmentName];
The table fields for the subdepartment table are SubDepartmentID, SubDepartmentName, DepartmentID and SDID.
SDID can be ignored for the purpose of this question and DepartmentID links back to the main department. Just to confirm visually the cascading form does work in terms of when you pick a department it only displays the subdepartments associated to it.
Okay I have an Orders Form, which generates a SubTotal Price (ex VAT), VAT, Shipping & Freight Charge based on an IIF statment of being under a 50.00 order apply 20.00 charge. And finally a Order Total with it all added together. This works fine, however I cannot seem to find a way to post these prices in my Orders Table. When I click on Datasheet View for the form, all the details appear as they should.

I'm creating a database for a flower shop for training purpose. I have a main form with a sub form that has the orders in it. when placing a new order for a client and selecting the product from the combo box, it would be great if the product could show up to the right in the form.
I have no clue if this is possible and how to get it working. I have included the database as an attachment, which way to follow. I remember that I could do this on a web page, but a web page is not the same as a database.
