Forms :: Record Cannot Be Delete Or Changed
Aug 7, 2015
I have a "Search" form that I am using to search through a query in a list box of all of my Customers. Once the record that I am wanting to view comes up I highlight it and click a "View" button to bring up another form with the customers full record. When this form is open I am able to update the customer information and add User's to it if necessary.
My problem comes after I click on my save and close button that takes me back to me search form. I want to close the search form and the error I get is "The record cannot be deleted or changed because table "tblUserProfile" includes related records." I click OK and get a SECOND error stating "You can't save this record at this time. MS Access may have encountered an error while trying to save a record. If you close this object now, the data changes you made will be lost. Do you want to close the database object anyway?"I have already made my changes and saved them in the form with the customer record so am not sure why I am getting an error when trying to close the Search form.
I am using an embedded macro on the view button. OpenForm with a Where condition [tblCustomerRecord]![Profile ID]=[Forms]![frmSearchCustomer]![Profile ID]
I have the listbox bound to the Profile ID. I have not been able to get the view button on the form to work without this step.Is there a better way to view a specific record from my listbox results?

I need to know when:
* a new record has been created
* data on a record has been changed
Does the On Dirty event capture this, or can I just use the forms On Change event?

Dim MyDatabase As Database
Dim rstProfessionals As DAO.Recordset
Set rstProfessionals = Form_Professional.RecordsetClone
If (rstProfessionals.RecordCount = 0) Then

How to do a 'Delete from ListBox' . My listbox is populated, but I want to be able to put a button on the form, select a record from the listbox and press the button to delete that record from the list.
I should add that this is an unbound listbox so it needs to be removed from the listbox and the table that is populating it.
Listbox is List22 the table that populates it is 'tblShootingTasks'

I'm very new to Access, Macros, and VBA. Basically I have a form in ContinuousForm format that has a delete button next to each record. It's been working fine for the past few hours but for some reason Access can't delete the corresponding record(s) (DeleteRecord) now. The button is run by a macro that's made by a wizard.
Also, is there an appropriate way to show code (if that is the term used) for Macros?

I would like to disable the shortcut, CTRL - which allows a user to delete a record. A user accidentally deleted a record while typing in an email address that had an underscore in the email address. While trying to type it she must have hit the CTRL key instead of the Shift key follow by the -. She noticed the delete confirmation, but not thinking, pressed enter and thus confirmed the deletion of the record.
Other than telling her to pay more attention, how can I disable the shortcut in Access 2013?I tried using the Application.OnKey "^-", "" but I continue getting the error method or data member can not be found

On a form (default view: Single), I have a bunch of bound controls that display one record at a time from tblMain. I have a bunch of unbound controls as well (buttons).
If the user tabs through all the controls, reaches the last one (btnLast), and presses tab again, the focus is set to the first control (btnFirst) and the bound controls change to display the next record. I just want the focus to be set to the first control without the displayed record being changed. So I set up an "If" statement in Private Sub btnFirst_GotFocus()
Code:
If Screen.PreviousControl.Name = "btnLast" Then
[code to change record back to previous record]
End If
But btnFirst gets the focus when the form opens, so Screen.PreviousControl spits out an error.I've accommodated this like so:
Code:
On Error GoTo ErrorHandler
If Screen.PreviousControl.Name = "btnLast" Then
[code to change record back to previous record]
End If
Exit Sub
ErrorHandler:
Exit Sub

After a lot of reading and consolidating VBA codes for audit trail. How My Audit Trail Works..A module was made for a function named as "Changes" .Then inserted into before update event of a form where I will do the editing of the records. Then I made a table named as Audit.Inside this table I made all the fields I needed such as:
*AuditRecordId[autonumbered]
*FormName[The name of the form for editing]
*Index[The record ID of the record being edited]
*ControlName[The Field being edited]
*DateChanged[Date change was done]
*TimeChanged[Time change was done]
*PriorInfo[for the old value of data being changed]
*NewInfo[For the new value of data changed]
*CurrentUser[The user base on log in form that was set to Global into another module]
*Reason[The reason for changing for future references]
And Here is the Function Code:
Code:
Option Compare Database
Option Explicit
Function Changes()
Dim db As Database
Dim rs As Recordset
Dim strSQL As String
Dim strCtl As String
Dim strReason As String
[code]....
This audit trail function is valid only for one(1) form, due to the limitation of
Code:
Screen.ActiveForm.Controls("SUP ID").Value
where "SUP ID" is the primary key of the record being updated/Change, so if there are Five(5) tables that needs audit trail, there will be also Five(5) forms, as well as Five(5) Function Changes namely; Changes(), Changes1(),Changes2(),etc... because all the table do have their own sets of primary Key.
Is there a shortcut, in such a way that the "rs!Index" will automatically return a value, equivalent to the Primary Key/Record Id of the record being updated/change, given that there are different updating forms for each table to be updated?

Three tables:
Employee, Sessions, EmployeeSessions.
Many sessions can have many employees - thus the joining table has been included.
When trying to delete an employee from the database using a form, I encounter the error:
The record cannot be deleted or changed because table 'tblEmployeeSessions' includes related records
Is there a problem with my table relationship structure? Or is it 'correct' that as the employee is supervising a session he/she cannot be deleted as this would interfere and maybe mess up the session record?

I have two simple tables. I want to delete the records from Table1 that are on Table2. I've created a select query that gives me what I want but when I change to a delete query, I get this message: "Unable to delete from specified tables"
I think my problem has something to do with security but I can't figure out what to change.

I thought "Undo" was only available while in the current record. Here were my steps:
1 - Loaded form that shows 1 record per form page.
2 - Edited a record
3 - Moved to another record with status bar nav arrow
4 - Verified my edit was in the underlying table
5 - Moved back to the original record, again using status bar nav arrow
6 - Clicked my "undo" control and the original data appeared in the form
7 - Moved to another record
8 - Verified my original data was now back in the underlying table
My undo control has this vba on click:
Code:
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdUndo

A form displays information on a construction site in various text boxes. I want to enable the user to change this information but not until a save button is pressed.
Now I have the problem that as soon as I change the value of a text box, the data in the database is updated.
Is there a way to prevent these updates but still get the text fields to be linked to the attributes of a table?

i have a form that shows payments (checks) that have been issued. sometimes those checks need to be voided and i want 2 fields (Updated By and Updated Date) to pop up when the payment distribution field is changed to a void status.
payment distribution: "I" for issued and "V" for void
i've gotten the On Change Event to work with VBA when the payment distribution changes from "I" to "V" and the 2 new fields pop up but if i exit the form and go back in to look at that record, the fields are gone. Is there a way to make the fields permanently if the payment is "V" on the form?
this is what i have so far for the On Change Event:
If [payment distribution] = "V" Then
me.cmbo_UpdatedBy = True
me.txt_UpdatedDate = True
Else
me.cmbo_UpdatedBy = False
me.txt_UpdatedDate = False
End If
End Sub

When we browse through records in a subform we store the records in the database. When we want to delete a records for example the third record from the five records always the first records will be deleted. How can we delete the records where the cursor is at? When we are at the third record and press the delete button the third record from the list in the subform should be deleted.
Code:
Option Compare Database
Dim FocusBln As Boolean
Private Sub Identificeer()
Me.[Datum Aangemaakt].Visible = True
Me.[Datum Aangemaakt].SetFocus
If Me.[Datum Aangemaakt].Text = "" Then

I have a library database that I want to delete a record in my tblStatus when the book is returned. I have found the deleteobject function but it appears that that will delete like a table or query or report or something like that. I have no need to keep track of how many times a certain book has been checked out or that John Doe has checked out books X, Y and Z. As a mater of fact that is exactly what I don't want so I just want to delete the record that says Book ZZZ was checked out by John Doe. When the book is returned I just want it available for some one else.
Thanks in advance,
Rick

Hi all, facing a little problem with my forms. Access gives me headaches everyday. Haha.
In a continuous form, I have a delete button with the following code
Private Sub cmdDelete_Click()
On Error GoTo Err_cmdDelete_Click
DoCmd.SetWarnings False
If MsgBox("Confirm deletion of the record?", vbQuestion + vbYesNo + vbDefaultButton2, "Delete?") = vbYes Then
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdSelectRecord
DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdDeleteRecord
End If
Exit_cmdDelete_Click:
DoCmd.SetWarnings True
Exit Sub
Err_cmdDelete_Click:
MsgBox Err.Description
Resume Exit_cmdDelete_Click
End Sub
However, after the record is deleted, the focus is immediately set to the next field which creates a new record of null data. And since the fields are all required, I am forced to enter data into the new record, if not a pop up will inform to user to enter data.
I do not wish for this new record to be created everytime I delete a row. How do I go about it?
I'm learning more each day! Thanks in advance..

I have a problem with 1 of my form (FrmEditDrawing) that I use to edit a specific record from 1 of my table (TblDrawing). The user will see the Data for each drawing on a form that I called (FrmViewDrawing) and will be able to edit the data for each drawing by clicking a button that will open the form "FrmEditDrawing" on the specific record. In that case I can't edit and change the data for any fields but if I open the form on its own, I can edit and change the data ?
I guess it has something to do with the fact that I open twice the same recordsets which locks the table, I am not sure. What would be the different option to solve this problem?

When you want to delete a record out of MS Access, you get the default pop-up message confirming you want to delete the record [YES] [NO].
I have a few users who are not paying attention and hitting a combination of keys (I am guessing Alt + D) and getting this message. They then do not look, and confirm the deletion of the record.
I am thinking of two ways around this.
1) Change the default to [NO] when this pop-up dialog opens up (the default is [YES]).
2) Disable this pop-up box, and then create my own to confirm the deletion.
Are either of these possible, or has anyone ever had to work around this issue? I have never had an issue with this, and was not sure how to attack it.
Let me know.
Thank you,
T.J.

i have an order form somewhat like the northwind database one. I called mine A5_frmOrders. i have a subform called A6_sfrmOrders, which is in datasheet view. I need to add a "Delete Record" button into the subform, but when i put it in the subform footer, it doesnt appear.
Like any orders subform, i have "Item", "Product", "Quantity", "Unit Price" and "Subtotal" with their corresponding labels in the Detail Section. I tried changnig the subform to "Continuous Form" and doing this :
header : Labels for "Item", "Product", "Quantity", "Unit Price" and "Subtotal"
detail : "Item", "Product", "Quantity", "Unit Price" and "Subtotal" for user to fill in
footer : Delete Record button
but even when i change to Continuous Form, it doesnt allow me to separate "Item" from its label and put one in the header and one in the detail...
how do i add in the delete record button? Is it true i cannot use datasheet view if i want a delete button?
Thanks

Why does this code not delete the current record?
DoCmd.RunSQL "DELETE * FROM [Tble-Readings]WHERE
[Tble-Readings].[ID]= " & Me![ID] & ";"
I have this code on the a Close Button and if the record is incomplete I want it to be deleted from the table. The ID field is an autonumber so it is the 1st field to get a value if a user starts entering data. I get a msg box saying 0 fileds will be deleted why? the id's do match but it does not delete??

Hi,
Is it possible to delete a record from a table whilst viewing that table through a form. The awkward part though is because I have another table linked to it.
Basically the main table is Orders and the other table is Items (these items make up an order). So when I go to simply click on delete an error message appears saying that I cannot delete the record but there are records attached to it in another table. This is fair enough but is there a smooth way off deleting off the items?
Many thanks,
Paul.
