I have set the decimal place property of a text box to 2. Then when i run a query that puts data in that box, the deci places are still well over 2..It lokks to be over riding it, how do I stop this?

I am building a database from a detailed Excel file which has upwards of 22 decimal places. Access restricts the decimal usage to 15 characters. Even when selecting the 15 characters, Access rounds the entry. The only way it will work so far is as text, but it is a calculated field. Any suggestions?
View 3 Replies View RelatedHey everyone - is there a way within Access to set the decimal places so that it holds a 0 after the decimal if you put it in that way, but also uses Auto for the # of decimal places? For example, I'm trying to create a DB in which one of the fields is to hold GPAs. It obviously looks silly to have it displayed as 4 if it's 4.0, but I would also prefer to not set the decimal places at 3 and have it displayed as 4.000. I can do this if I have to, but what would be most preferable would be to have it record the number exactly the way I put it in, whether it's 4.0 or 3.875 without cutting off anything (0's or multi-digit decimals) after the decimal. Is this possible, or do I have to customize the output in ASP?

On a from I am creating I want to make it user friendly. They enter an amount for a percentage. I have the format set to percentage. If you type in 99 you get 9900% instead of 99%. Is there an easy way to correct this?

Successful in loading an Access database with data from the PLC's memory. Unfortunately, I'm only able to transfer Integer values. In the database I'd like to show one of the fields as a real number by formatting the Integer value to add a decimal place. Example: 2505 to 250.5

When a value is 360.64 is fine, but when it's something that ends with a 0 (360.60) - is loses the 0 giving me 360.6.
I need to export a currency field to include the pence but without the decimal place, is this possible?
It also needs to be 11 characters wide.
I have tried a number of formats and can get the decimal point removed but I am not getting the pence displayed.
I'm using a calculation on my form that subtracts one number from another and stores the difference between the two in a 3rd field. This works correctly but I want the difference to show 1 decimal place at all times.
So for instance if subtract 35.1 from 35.2 I get a difference of "0.1".
But if I subtract 35.0 from 36.0 I get a difference of "1".
The first case is fine but I need the difference to be "1.0" in the second case.
I've set the number of decimal places in the table from auto to 1 and changed the format on the form to a standard number with 1 decimal place. Neither of these show a difference of 1 as "1.0"
How to force 1 decimal place at all times?
I have a pivotchart which I cause to take a huge list of people's test percentiles and calculate the average for each year. I then display the average above each bar. The problem is that there are too many numbers after the decimal place for each figure. I went into the properties and changed the number format to "fixed" but it doesn't give me the option to change the number of decimal places that are used (it does every where else in MS Office!). It seems that it just uses the regional settings for the computer. But the problem I have in changing that is that I have other pivotcharts in the same report that does something similar but needs a different number of decimal places. Is there any way around this without having to create another query to calculate the average and then having the pivotchart display the info from the new query (this is a huge database that I put together with many charts and I don't want to have to redo the way that it works just because of this decimal place issue)?

Running a query on the table for the report the delivers the policy.
the Section Field is Rich Text - this is the only way I can figure out how to display decimal point divisions like, 1.1.0, or 6.5.3 (for relevant sections).
Query won't return anything when I set a parameter on Section Feild and I suspect it's because of the Rich Text issue. I've tried smart tag but no avail.
And the next thing I want to do is have an index that gives me Section and Section Title with a go to. How best to achieve that???
I'm having a problem exporting my table as text and having three fields reporting only 2 decimal places instead of the 4 that i need.
I'm using Access 200 on Windows XP Pro.
I searched the forums and the only thing i could find was to create a querry and using ColumnName: str([dblNumber]) somehow. I don't really unerstand what they were trying to do except that somehow this converts the number to a string. This would work I guess, but I couldn't get it to work.
I have also read somehting about changing the fields in the MSysIMEXColumns table somehow to allow more decimal places in the exprted text file.

I have a Table with a Field set to Number, Single, Fixed, 2 Decimal points in which I enter Hours (ie 11.25) then at some point I want to extract those new entries to create a Text file transfer.
I have a Macro which extracts those new entries from the main Table and copies/appends them to a new Table which contains only the new data I need to create the File to upload into a Payroll system (using TransferText option).
It all works well EXCEPT, the File it creates insists on showing 8 decimal points and I just cannot get it to show 2 only.I have tried using a calculated field, setting the secondary Table field to Text.why or where these 8 decimals are coming from.
I am having a little problem with making an audit trail for a form with some unbound text controls on it.
Since .OldValue won't work on unbound text boxes, google suggested that I put the old value in the control's tag property. This is what I came up with:

The first loop is supposed to dynamically assign the tag value, with whatever the textbox value is, however it doesn't. I've asterisked out the line i think may be the issue.
I am using an unbound textbox at the top of my form for filtering purposes. The user types in a string and hits "Tab" which kicks of the filter which is defined in the AfterUpdate property. I want the focus to return to the same textbox and position the curosor after the last character. I am trying to use SelStart but not having success.

Is there any way to name the text box like "Contract (1)" I can write it this way but it is recognized as Me.Contract_1_.
I need to name it Contract(1) as I have to run some iteration in VBA.
On my switchboard form, I have a check box which the user can check to make a text box (which appears in several different reports) visible and uncheck to make it invisible. The text box in the reports has the same name on all of them.
I am having trouble making this work.
I can think of two solutions, but haven't had success with either yet.
1. I could simply change the visible property of the report(s) control from the form. This works if the report is open, but throws an error if the report is not open.

I have a textbox (Odour), that contains one of four words (Cadaver ( ), Drugs ( ), Explosives ( ) or Money ( ) ), the word is written in by pressing one of four buttons, this works fine.
I now want the user to write in between the the brackets and only the brackets. For example:
The textbox contains Cadaver ( ), I want the user to be able to write between the brackets "Blood".
I seem to recall that there is a way of only allowing the user to type in certain places within a textbox.
I have created a button that takes the contents of a memo field and adds a new line of text at the top with the date, time and initials of staff member. So far, so good...
However I want it to end with the cursor ready at the end of the first line (to type the note) The following code does everything but ends by putting the cursor right at the end of all of the text in the memo field (instead of the end of the first line):
