I have a text box in a report, with it's control source property set to =[BegDt].
Upon loading the report a message box pops up and asks the user for the value of [begDt]. This occurs 3 more times for 3 other parameters.
Now I want to change the design of the report so I decided to put these 4 parameters on a form so the user can fill in the 4 values all at once rather than responding to 4 message boxes that pop up when you run the report.
The problem is now the control source properties in all the different text boxes need to be changed to [forms]![frmABC]![txtBegDt] etc.etc. There are over 100 text boxes in this report that make reference to the 4 different parameters.
Is there a replace command I can use to change all the occurrences in the text boxes or perhaps a simpler way would be to pass the values to the report through code.
I tried placing this in the report header's format event and it doesn't seem to have any effect.
Code:Private Sub ReportHeader_Format(Cancel As Integer, FormatCount As Integer)begytd = [Forms]![frmABC]![txtStDt]endytd = [Forms]![frmABC]![txtEndDt]curmo = [Forms]![frmABC]![cboMo]curyr = [Forms]![frmABC]![cboYr]End Sub
I should mention that the report uses a table (tblRecap) as it's record source. I tried using a query that refers back to the form for the parameter values but that means I have to use the query as the reports record source and that creates a problem because the report needs fields from the table to perform calculations.
Can someone help me with a solution please.
Thanks for your time.

I have a form using a query as a control source so that is prompts the user for a parameter when they open the form.
I also have a listbox that is calling the same query.
The issue I am having is when I open the form it will prompt me twice to enter the same parameter.
Tables:
tblship
tblconsignee
tblbill
tblinvoicedetails
Query
qinv
Form
frminvoice
When the user enters the invoice number it populates the ship, consignee, billing address information. I have the list box to display line items for that invoice.
Currently I just have them enter the invoice number twice.
Is there a way I can take the user input and apply it to my other query?

Hi Guys,
I'm trying to create a simple form that allows me to enter information about a new customer into my database. I've normalized Addresses into another table. I've attached a stripped down example of my problem to this thread.
Everything works fine when I'm viewing exisitng records, but when I go to add a record, I enter the name and phone number of the company (native to the main form), and go to add the address informaion (native to a subform in the address form), I get a message saying I need a similar record in the Addresses table and I cannot proceed...
But I'm trying to add that record to the addresses table!!
Please guys, whats goen on??!?

Hey all,
Just found the forum -- love it. I'm hoping it'll help me out with a lot of my problems. I've extensive experienced coding for PDAs, and with other databases or VBA-based programs, but I've just run into a frustratingly simple problem with an Access database I'm building for medical school (I'm a second-year med student).
Here's the situation: I've two linked tables -- e.g., TblNeuroQuestions and TblNeuroAnswers -- in which the primary key in both is the Question # field. I've created a form to easily enter data enter the questions table (question #, question, and 5 answer choices.) What I want to do is have the question text automatically be copied into the corresponding Question field in the TblNeuroAnswers table, so that I don't have to do it manually (the structure of the TblNeuroAnswers is merely Question #, Question, Answer (A,B,C,D,E), and Explanation). In other words, I want the entry of the question data in the main form (the NeuroQuestions form, which enters data in the TblNeuroQuestions table) to automatically be entered in the corresponding Question field of the TblNeuroAnwsers table.
It seems like it should be an easy thing to do; run a simple update query, for example. But I'd like the form do dual entry, so to speak. Any suggestions?

I am trying to pull my information together for printing and also sending attachments. I have a field whose type is set to memo.
I have created 2 select queries, one pulls all of the information together except for the memo field, the other pulls the OrderID and the memo field. I then created a 3rd select query which merges those two back together (This is the only way I have been able to get this to work in the past).
Now, whenever I run the query, the notes field is trashed... All that is displayed is a few strange Chinese characters and that's it.
Someone please help with this, as it is a very big problem. Thanks!

I have an unbound form with three tabs. On each tab there is a sub form. Each tab is a search form and each sub is a results returned. I have made everything unbound and set the sub form recordsource and its controls control souce on afterupdate of the main form search criteria. Works fine except for after some use the db decides the sub forms are not unbound and sets the record source and control sources.
I'm trying to do a
Me.PollingPlacesResults.Form.RecordSource = ""
Me!PollingPlacesResults!PollID.ControlSource = ""
but this does not seem to work in actualy removeing the record source and control source.

I have a form whose data source is a select query, q3, that is built from 2 other select queries. I'll call them q1, q2, and q3. q1 is a parameter query where I enter a "Cutoff Date" that the 3 queries manipulte and generate the desired results that appear in the form. The problem is that I don't know how to capture the parameter "Cutoff Date" from q1 to display on the form.

Hi,
I have a query that requires a Start-Date and an End-Date to be input by user for the Where clause. It is asking for both over and over. I've had it ask from 1 up to 4 times! :eek: Shouldn't it store the input and only ask for it once? I'm thinking that the way my query is arranged may be causing it to have to loop through that section more than once to find the data, but that's just my theory. Any help would be great!
Here is my code (abbreviated slightly):
SELECT DISTINCTROW C1.*, C2.*
FROM Pen AS C1 INNER JOIN Jobs AS C2 ON C1.subno=C2.[Jobs Acct]
WHERE ((C1.typ="SS" Or C1.typ="CC" Or C1.typ="PP" Or C1.typ="TT") And C1.stdate>=[Enter Start Date] And C1.stdate<=[Enter End Date] And C2.[Type]<>"EE" And C2.[Type]<>"QQ" And C1.entdate<=C2.[ChangeDate]+60);
I'm selecting rows from "Pen" and "Jobs" that have the same subno/Jobs Acct numbers (text), then there are criteria for "Pen" types, user inputs criteria for date range (Start Date and End Date) and there are criteria for "Jobs" types. Finally, there's a cross-table criteria based on a date field ("Pen" entdate should not be more than 60 days past the "Jobs" ChangeDate). Tables are in quotes in my explanation here.
So running the above, it asks for user input "Enter Start Date", then again for "Enter End Date"...but then it asks for each again...and again...and sometimes again!
Help! :confused:
P.S..I didn't notice this repeating until I made it user input (parameter query) because it was using whatever dates I hard-coded in there before.

Hey
I have two list box.
the first box give the names of states.
The secound box uses the state name from box one. Then displays all colleges within that state.
This is an event. I am trying to get a grasp on the difference bettween DAO and ADO before coding.
At this point I like to know how to set the row source of the secound list box choice.
If you have the time to provide the compleet VBA; I will enjoy it.
Thanks a bunch

Hi all,
I've got a form in my database that enables you to print or view reports, which I inherited. There is a list box that is automatically populated with all of the reports listed in the Reports tab of the database window. The list box row source says the following:
SELECT msysobjects.Name FROM msysobjects WHERE (((msysobjects.Type)= 32764));
However, I have been asked to create an identical report list that only shows some reports from the database window.
Does anybody know how I could modify the above code to only get reports beginning frm_id for example?
Many thanks

Hi all, at the moment all of my field are control sourced. I heard there is a way whereby the field could be unbound and one button it the control source for them all. Im not entirely sure what this means or how to go about it. But i think it would solve the problem of if my users start entering data into a record and then decide to leave it, this record is automatically added to the table, with little or no data. As the data in the table is used for statistics, the table showing records which are not actually there is causing problems. Im not sure if i explained this well, but i would be grateful of any help. Thanx

I have a subform listing items for purchase. Some are services and are not taxable, some are products and are taxable.
So far, I am calculating the sales tax for each record (item paid for), based on whether the thing is taxable or not and putting that result in a text box (txtSales_Tax) on the form. Since these calculated amounts aren't stored in a field, I can't SUM them, since SUM only works on data in table fields. Can someone tell me how to get a total?
Otherwise, I'll get rid of txtSales_Tax entirely, if someone can tell me how to write a SUM function, as a Control Source, that includes an IIf, or a WHERE, so it only adds items where the yes/no field Taxable=True.
I've got an IIf with a SUM function in it but, even in the footer, that only works for the current record. I need a SUM that has a nested IIf or WHERE in order to include all the records.

I have a drop down list of Last name and first name.
I want this to be the only unlocked feature on the page. When a name is selected the other information is shown (the persons cc#, Exp date, phone number, email etc.)
I am almost sure its a control source, but i'm not 100% as i'm relatively new to Access..
Another issue I would like to know is how to show the Last Name, First Name in the selected drop down after its selected, currently its only showing the Last name.
Thanks in advance

I have a form with several drop dpwn lists in it. I want the choice of each on to narrow the choices of the next drop down list.
I have see a few examples on this site on how this is done but at this point I dont understand how to write the information. I have taken what another person had posted and dont really get what to do next. Do I paste the info in the rowsource box and then build the query? The example I saw had expr1 and expr2 in the querys so I was lost.
Thanks, Joe
1st drop down list row source
SELECT DISTINCTROW tblProjects.ProjectID, tblProject.Poject FROM tblProjects ORDER BY tblProjects.Project;
2nd drop down list row source
SELECT DISTINCTROW tblLocations.LocationID, tblLocations.Location FROM tblLocations WHERE (((tblLocations.ProjectID)=[Forms]![frmMain]![cboProjects])) ORDER BY tblLocations.Location;

Hi!
I have those (simplified) tables that are linked with an n:m relation
persons:
#ID#FullName#
trainings:
#ID#startDate#
training_members:
#ID#trainingID#personID
Now I created a form to fill the training_members table with the participants. For the form I'm using a dropdown list filled with the names of the people from the persons table. What I now want is that the dropdown list only shows the values that are not already used before. So I changed the SQL statement of the row source property:
SELECT persons.ID, persons.FullName FROM persons WHERE persons.ID Not In (SELECT personID from training_members inner join trainings on training_members.trainingID = trainingsn.ID) ORDER BY persons.FullName;
I also added "me.recalc" to the after_update event of the dropdown list.
It does work - but there's one problem left: The SQL query doesn't include the just selected value. Because only values that are included in the list are accepted, the name of the person isn't shown in the dropdown.
Do you know how I can update the SQL statement so that the just selected entry is as well mentioned in the list? The abovementioned form is displayed as "Continuous Forms", so I don't know if it is possible to access the recordset the dropdowns are located into...
Thank you in advance!

is it possible to change the control source of an unbound text box ?
For example i have a textbox which simply displays the number of current records displayed i.e. =DCount("*", "queryname")
Now i wanted that with the click of a button (or something), i wanted to change it's controlsource to =DCount("*", "queryname2") ... however, as a result i got #name instead of the correct count.
Thanks

Can I build a form without it having a table or query. All unbound controls?
If so how would I preform a OnClick event to populate a combo box using code from one of my tables? Then have the form lookup the values that belong to the value in the combo box after I make a selection?
