I need to import a text file into access 10, the problem is as i understand it access has a db limit of 255 columns.
The text file is delimited by | symbols. As i tried to import, it shows me to have 267 columns and all the columns are unique and needs to be used for my work.
Attached in the ZIPPED file is an Excel spreadsheet.
Columns A is all numeric, and needs to be represented in access as a text field.
Column B is a mixed format of dates entered and in some instances only plain numeric. I need to import this column as is into a text field in access.
I tried importing the excel sheet, but the data gets changed.I tried to linked the Excel sheet but it also had an influence on the data.In both cases the influence of change is NOT throughout. Hence my need to get this spreadsheet into access as is.
We are in the process of converting from dBase to Access. We have successfully imported one of our data files into Access. When we go in and try to change the field sizes we keep getting an error that there is not enough disk space or memory. Is there a general rule when doing this? We have tried decreasing the amount of records and continue to get the error. When we originally imported the file we did not set a field size limitation so all the text fields in the structure came in at a size of 255. We are trying to change them to their proper size.
If a database is 20MB how much memory or space is required to make changes such as this? The original file contains over 300,000 records.
Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

So basically, the link/path to the file should be got, the ending changed from .txt to .doc and then the path (with the .doc ending) put into the table.

The access file has a lot of rows which do not show on the excel file. The added files in access either have a space before their names, an * before their names, or no name at all. I would attach the new access file but it does not show up on my windows 7 list of files on my computer. It only shows up as a new file on my access program.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am able to successfully export data from an Access 2010 Query to a Tab Delimited Text file without difficulty.My problem is that the Query includes several 'tick boxes'. The resulting text file shows the text boxes as 1 or 0 as appropriate. What I actually require is a Y/N result.To achieve the required Y/N result requires some fiddly find and replace editing which is complicated by the fact that the query also contains telephone numbers incorporating 1 & 0, This then requires further editing of individual records to convert misplaced Y/N back to 1/0. Is their any way that one can force the export to convert text boxes to Y/N rather than 1/0.

I am trying to import a non-delimited text file into access, but where there is a strict hierarchy to the records, i.e.
NAME:
AGE:
DOB:
etc. etc.
The field names are constant throughout the document but the pages are of variable length depending on what is in the fields.
When exporting a table from Access as a text file, it keeps adding .00 to the end of the number format records that I am tying to export.
Why it is doing that and what I need to do to prevent that from happening?
I am working on a website which has over 1000 pages that has the same code, but only a link that is different on each page. So, I thought that I will create a database and work my way from there. I was able to work the code and combine everything. Now would it be possible to export individual record from a query to a file with .html extension? If not, .txt will work as well. However, I want to have another field that would have the file names and the file is saved under that name.The query name is "Code Query" and the field name is "Final Code".
View 2 Replies View RelatedA little background. I need to export the results of a query I use to build a report. For Print Master software I need the "Field Names" in the text file as well as the data for a Mail Merge in Print Master (PM).
"The field name information in the file you have specified is missing or not correctly formatted. The first line of the file must contain the database field names. Make sure the "Export Field Names" (or similar) option is selected in the program from which you are exporting data."
Trouble is, when trying to export the report or query, Access has no "Export Field Names" option. It works if I first export to Excel and then from Excel to "txt" then to Printmaster. I would like to eliminate the Excel step. Therefore, how do or can I get Access Export to transfer the "Field Names" along with the field data?
I am trying to export a table (and possibly later a query) into a fixed width text file and I am not finding where to set the specifications. When I select Text File in the export tab, I only get the check box about Export datq with formatting and layout. Is that basically it? I do have the table set up with the correct widths for the fields.
An additional question:
This is a large table with 99 fields for a total width of 804 characters. Is there any limit for the six of a record for such an export?

FDL00.... should be generated automatically, starting with 101 for 1st container and 201 for 2nd and so forth. The output should be in vertical manner.
i'm in the process of creating an Access database to import data in text files and then export the data as fixed width text files, this is now working fine
My next step is to be able to setup an "Archive" Table which will hold all the data i have imported across multiple import proceudres for the last 30 days, i then want to be able to "De-Dupe" any files i import against this to ensure i never load duplicate data.
I'm currently working on a project within access which will allow users to select/input information in a form which will then save to the database.
What I need is to create a button on the form which will allow you to convert the data collected from the form to a custom text file template.
(Or maybe the last row added to the database. - although this may cause errors. Example: the form information doesn't save which will in turn create a text file with the data collected from the previous job)
The custom text file template should have a sentence description followed by the value recorded from the form.
Example:
1 configuration type: (data from form)
2 model type: (data from form)
3 Poc: (data from form)
And so on.
So in summary - I would be to use the form to collect the desired information which will save to the database.
Once actioned, a custom text file should be populated with the collected information (with specific data placement as per the example above)....

I would like to automate something presently done on a one-by-one basis. Here: a number of text files(containing data) are to be exported into an MS Excel file, with each text file to occupy a different worksheet. Presently, the idea is to use the Data/import external data/import data feature of MS Excel for importing the text files one-by-one into newly created worksheets(within the same workbook).
I would appreciate some advice on how to go about creating a useful MS Access application to achieve the above. I have checked the available Macros in MS Access, but I could not find one to suit my purpose. can anyone pls assist, on how I can get started?

I currently have a batch file that ftps a text file from a Red Hat Linux Server to my W2k C:. I would like to make another command in the batch file that imports this text file into an existing access table. I would like the text file to repopulate the table everytime it is imported. I do not want the data added on to the existing data in the table.

If there are 1 customer and 1 property, I do not need to do anything. Conversely, if there are many customers and many properties, I take time to manipulate.
Firstly, I open the word file. I have to copy and paste paragraphs that I want. Highlight of the original paragraphs is blue.
Secondly, I click 'Insert Word Field' -> select 'Next Record'.
In short, I wish to use VBA in access file to automatically perform the steps that I have outlined.
I've got the forms and queries in one .accdb file and my tables in a separate .accdb file. The forms file links to the tables in the tables file. The tables file resides in a folder called simply enough C:acc_tables and thats where i browsed to (obviously) when i set up the linkage.
One of the users does not wish (for whatever goddamn reason) to create a C:acc_tables file to stick the tables file in , and wants the tables file in some other folder.. Unfortunately this user does not have the skills to delete the existing links and re-link to the tables file after putting it in the folder he wants.
Where in the file that holds the forms and and queries do i find the path setting to the tables linked file? Can it be changed without deleting links and then re-linking?
I need to open and process the data from a text file on the network.
The first 7 characters of the file name will be the same every day.
The rest of the file name will change from day to day.
There will only be one file in the folder that has those first 7 characters.
There are a total of about 120 text files in the folder every day - give or take - including the one I need to open and read.
