General :: Can Users Without Access Installed Update
Nov 22, 2013We have an access database stored in a shared location. One of the tables in the database is used to record transactions made in an excel spreadsheet-this is done programatically using VBA and SQL.
So here is my silly question; If users don't have access installed locally will the code be able to write to the shared access database?
General :: Reports Not Formatting After Access Installed On New Laptop?
Mar 24, 2014My new and previous laptops are both 64 bit and installed MA 2010 on both of the computers running win 8.
When I run reports on my new laptop the reports are not formatting. They are reflecting on 4 pages and not on 1 page like on my previous laptop running the same programs.
On my new laptop I installed Office 2013 and old one office 2010 but I used the same Access 2010 on both laptops which is a separate disk as office was not the professional one.
Modules & VBA :: Allow ACCDE To Be Open On Desktop Only
Aug 4, 2015In my frontend code, I include a table with a version #. In my backend, I also include a version table. The front end will compare wih back end, and if it's different, it will force to get the updated version that it's stored in the LAN.
However, I do not want the user to open the file directly from the LAN because it might cause slow performance problem if multi-user,etc.
So I want to implement a code to force the application to be open only from desktop.
So far, I have a strUsername which detect the user network environ. Then, it will check the application path to determine if it was opened from:
C:Users<strUsername>Desktop
If not, then an error message will prompt to alert the member to copy the file in the LAN and save on their desktop.
It works on my laptop, all fine. Today I didnthe test in my user desktop, but the message saying that the file has to be opened from desktop keep appearing.
I double check the user folder and the Username environ is (cd98) but the user folder was setup as "CD98" capital letter. Does that affect the coding?
How can I make my code to not distinguish between lower or upper case either for username and folder user as well?
Just Installed Access 2007 - Ick!
Feb 17, 2008Ok, I know change isn't always easy, I remember going to 2003 and I didn't think I'd stick with it.
I'm now using 2007 and it's quite different in it's layout. I'm having trouble finding many things that I'm used to having "at my fingertips" but I'm muddling through it. The one thing that I'm totally lost on, has to do with form display.
Have a simple DB that a main form opens on start up. It's relatively small, auto centered, no resize and set to dialog. However, in 2007 it opens up occupying all available workspace space and I have to click the "Size to fit form" button. Then it's not centered.
Where the heck is the flag or setting to tell it to stop doing this?
Secondly, what's everyone else's thoughts on 2007?

Dec 23, 2013I have a working database which runs fine in accdb mode. But when i compile it and run the accde file I get the error "The expression you entered has a function name that XXDB nameXX cant' find."The problem is that the autoexec macro cannot find the VBA public function that is called with runcode command.
The accde file is running in the same folder as the accdb. It is a split database, I am only working on the Front End..I have tried, amongst others:
- Creating a new vba module and copying all the functions across
- Renaming the target function
- I reckoned there was a corruption somewhere, so I created a blank database and imported all the form/code/etc across from the broken version, which imported fine. The accdb ran but the compiled version failed again
General :: Do Not See Make ACCDE Button
Mar 1, 2013I do not see the Make ACCDE button. I'm using Access 2010 32 bit. Have an ACCDB FE file which I'm trying to create the ACCDE. I've compiled and fixed the VB errors. I've review trusted sources and insured the folders are trusted. For whatever reason, the button is not showing.

I have a database (.mdb file) which includes a table, forms and VB code. I intend on putting it onto a CD and then opening the form on another computer which may not have Access. Is this possible? Can I convert the file or can I attach some type of reader to the disk?
I have seen some software for download on the internet which allows you to open the tables however the Form is the most important thing in this case (but I take it whatever I use, it will need to be able to view the VB, subforms and tables as well since the Form depends on them?).
...also can I install an auto-run to the file for when the disk is inserted? (this is not a major issue though).

General :: Avoid Multiple Instances Of ACCDE
Jun 14, 2013I have an Access 2007 mydb.accdb file. If I click on it, it starts up fine. If I click on it again, then focus goes to the already open db.
If I do the same but with the .accde of the same db, for each click a new instance opens. This is not good, in that a single user then can have multiple instances running without noticing it, and that might mess things up. What Windows setting to use, to convince Win XP that only one instance of mydb.accde should run, similar to the .accdb?
Data Access Pages Without Office Installed
Oct 2, 2006I am building a database for users to input escalations in. The users that are actually keying the information in, do not have MS office. When they try to access the DAP html file, a message appears at the top of the page that states "The page requires the Microsoft Office Web Components.

Can data access pages be used without office being installed? I have heard that it could also be the users internet explorer security settings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
General :: Lock Down Application By Saving As ACCDE File
Sep 29, 2012Trying to lock down an application by saving as ACCDE file. Saves OK but when you load application none of the controls work. I.e. button clicks do not launch "Open Form" or " Print Report" commands.But in ACCDB format application works flawlessly.
When I tried on a different machine I get an error message that says too many Table IDs. Odd since I only have 3 forms, 3 tables and 3 reports. Lots of DoCmd's and switching between the 3 forms but not sure why this would create "too many Table IDs"?

Unfortunately a few of the other users do not have MS Access. Is it possible for them to still open the database without any admin or background - I would like them to be able to use the forms and 'front end'.

Oct 18, 2014I use below simple command line to start a macro in my Access database. Usually all works well. I start my bat file, command is executed and macro does its job.
However it always fails if I have a session of Access already opened even if it is a completely different database. If I use below then it opens another sessions of Access but does not execute the macro. I need to go into the second session and run macro manually. It works fine then.

Today I needed to push through some changes and "deactivate" the previous back end database and setup a new back end database. The new back end database has been sent; however the front end is not recognizing the back end database anymore. I need to re-link the existing front end to the back end database - I cannot import the front end into a "fresh" file because I put a password on the VBA Editor.
