General :: Access 2003 / Inserting Field Into Import Specification?

Aug 16, 2012

I'm using Access 2003.

if I create an Import Specification, how do I add an extra field in the middle of the field list? All I can see to do is re-enter all fields from the new field downward.

Date Range Specification - MS Access 2003+ ASP

Jul 9, 2007

I have a database that gets updated twice per week. Using ASP, I am "publishing" this database to our company website to enable anyone within the company (here or aboad) to see the status of various tests. The problem I am having is: I am trying to get only "active" tests to show up (which I have working correctly) or tests that have been stopped or completed within the past 5 days. I have tried using: DateAdd("d",-5,Now()), DateAdd("d",-5,Date()), and neither have worked. Any suggestions on how to get this to work? I can't use a specific date to subtract from, because it may be a few days between the time I update and the time everyone has seen it.

Txt File Field DDMMYYYY Fails To Import Into Access'07, But OK In 2003

Apr 1, 2008

Hi there anyone and everyone.

My problem concerns importing a date from a txt file. I've been doing this for years with '97 and 2003 with no problem, but with 2007 I am now getting import errors which I can't resolve. The files, either fixed width or delimited, contain date information in the format ddmmyyyy (without any date separators). After importing I receive an import error message, and the relevant field in the table is blank.

In Access '97 or 2003 I can import date information directly into an Access date/time field by using an import specification where I have set the date delimiter to blank (by default this is set to "/" , so I simply delete this to leave the box empty). Using this method a file containing "25122007" (without the inverted commas) will be imported into Access as a date, and can be subsequently manipulated as date without having to resort to any fancy reformatting tricks. Obviously the import will not be sucessful if the date delimiter in the import spec is left as "/", or set to anything else, eg "." or ":".

But now that I've updated to Access 2007 this is just not possible no matter what I do or try. I can only import a date if the txt data has a separator, and that the same separator is set in the import specification.

In some new databases I have done a couple of workarounds, importing it as text into a text field, then using a CDate(Format(CLng([date]),"00/00/0000")) type expression in a subsequent query, but this is a pain having to do it, a really backward step.

But the real pain is older databases ('97 or 2003) which have been converted up to '07; they no longer work, and there is a lot of redesign to be done unless somone can tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Unfortunately I am not able to change the format of the dates in the data I receive, so the solution has to come from my end (ie Access). Surely Access 2007 should be able to recognise 25122007 as a date? All ideas gratefully received.

I've been happily using various versions of Access since 1994 and I've learnt lots along the way, and have always previously been able to sort out problems that I've come across without resorting to a forum, but I'm now really puzzled by a problem that I have come across in Access 2007. So although this is my first post I certainly wouldn't call myself a newbie. Hopefully I have described the problem accurately (it is realy simple in fact), but very happy to provide more information if required.

Many thanks (in anticipation)

Benjy

Import/export Specification Editing?

Dec 16, 2004

Ok,
I'm new to a particular access database that is having problems.
Basically, it is using transfertext to transfer a database to another file, at least as far as I know.
Unfortunately, it's hanging, and as best as I can guess, its because something in the export specification file is not quite right.
Can anyone offer me an explanation of how to edit an import or export specification file? The MS help seems to indicate that it stored in the database, but I haven't been able to locate the file that is specified in the vba code. Nor did I see it elsewhere in the folder where the database is stored.

Any help is appreciated.

General :: Large Table Import / Way To Import Tables To Access

I want to make a database of diseases (need to learn them for school and would like a serchable database on my smart phone for future reference).
Unfortunately spent a lot of time making hundreds of pages of word tables before i realized a database would be better. See attached image or pdf. Is there a way to import the tables to Access?

I need to preserve the hierarchic info in the nested bullet point lists. E.g. under treatment i might have a point called Acute treatment, with sub-levels, Step 1, Step 2, etc. with their own sub-levels. I need to maintain this relational hierarchic info.

Skip Field In Export Specification

Nov 3, 2005

I run a query that I export out to a tab delimited file. This text file is used for another application. The problem I am having is if I select "skip field" in my text "export specification" it still exports out that piece of data, even though I have selected "Skip Field". The data type on this field is a number and field size is integer.

I thought I read in another access newsgroup that this is a known bug? Is that true? Is there a fix? I am anxious to fix this because, I have 90 query's that I export to text and I would hate to have to go to each query and select "Not Show" that field.

Help?

Inserting A Blank Into A Date Field In An Access DB

Dec 28, 2005

I want to update an MS Access table date field with a blank date. How do I go about it? Right now, if the "dateAskFor_Funds" text field is blank, and I try to update the "AskFor_Funds_Date" field in the database, I get an error. That is why I don't do anything.

What expression should I use in the place of

intJunk = 1

in the code caption below.

Private Sub cmdUpdateApplication_Click()

Dim todaysDate
Dim intJunk As Integer
Dim rst As ADODB.Recordset

todaysDate = Date ' MyDate contains the current system date.

Set rst = New ADODB.Recordset
rst.Open "EA_Apps_List", CurrentProject.Connection, adOpenKeyset, adLockOptimistic

If IsNull(Me!dateAskFor_Funds) Or Me!dateAskFor_Funds = "" Then
intJunk = 1
Else
rst!AskFor_Funds_Date = Format(Me!dateAskFor_Funds, "Short Date")
End If

Set rst = Nothing

End Sub

Access Inserting A Space In Memo Field

Apr 15, 2015

I like to store SQL code as a memo field in a table. I then use a form to collect selection criteria from the user, and this is used to create a 'WHERE' clause which is then appended to the stored SQL. This has always worked, but in one recent case the SQL failed. On examination I discovered that although the SQL is correctly stored in the memo field, when Access retrieves the code it inserts a space character in the middle of one of the words, thereby of course creating an invalid SQL string. It's easy to work around it, but why this happens? A bug in Access?

General :: Access 2010 And Access 2003 On Same Desktop?

Mar 5, 2013

is there a way to have both Access 2010 and 2003 exist peacefully on the same desktop. My company uses Office 2010, but my department has an Access 2003 application. As a result, I have to have A2003 on my desktop and use it quite frequently for this one application.

I have some small databases that I really want to move onto A2010 so we can take advantage of SharePoint functions, etc. Is there anytning I can do to be sure that the .mdb and .mde open in A2003 and the new .accdb opens in A2010, without getting errors and the Windows installer going through the Office installation process for the respective version? I've gone to the file locations and set the "Open with" setting to the respective version.

So I thought I'll make the Controls on the form for Bold,Italic... etc but I can't seem to get the code to work.

My TextField is a Memo and I have changed the TextFormat to RichText, but I cannot use any of the commands like .SelBold or .SelColor etc.. It gives me a Compile Error: Member or Data Member Not found.

I don't understand why? Is there a Add In/Reference that I need to include?

The left drop down menu has options below.

Are these sections in-build in Access 2003 or created by user?
