General :: Access 2007 Pop-up Message To Logged-in Users

Nov 14, 2012

As an "admin" of our corporate local db, maintaining and/or upgrading is my task.

Usually there are logged-in users, then I have to ask them (mostly via communicator) to please log off, because I can not modify with users in the db.

I would like to send these users a message via Access, like "Please log off from the db for maintenance blabla".

Modules & VBA :: Sending Message To Users Logged Into DB On Different Servers?

Jul 23, 2013

I have some code that when a check box in a table is ticked, sends a pop up message to the users logged in (message is on a hidden form), then it closes the DB after a pre-dtermined period of time.

The problem I'm having is that we are a large site with a about 25 differnet servers that our users log onto via Citrix, when a user is on a different server it isn't displaying the message nor closing the DB down.

trying to achieve this? Or is there a better way to see who is logged in and get a message to them?

I'm using Access 2003 btw

Code I'm using below

Code:
Option Compare Database
Private Sub Form_Load()
Me.TimerIntderval = 10000 ' change to 300000 for about 5 minutes
End Sub
Private Sub Form_Timer()
DoCmd.Close
Application.Quit
End Sub

History/Audit Of Logged Users

Jun 20, 2006

Recording to a table Who is logged on to Database, When they logged on and when they logged off.
Gets tricky as I really would like the info to come from the mdw file(all users go through this for access)
If someone can help would be great. Need my hand held for this as I have been attempting to do this for over a month with no real success. I have so many samples that don’t quite make it happen I am now totally confused.

Forever grateful - every crumb helps

Forms :: Show Users Logged In To Database

May 3, 2015

I would like to create a form that will show the users connected to the database. It would be kind of a tracker who opened the database to work on some cases. The form could show all users from the datbase from top to bottom and to the right a green or red round dot that she/he is active opened the database or not active (closed the database or did not open it still)

I was thinking that it could be applied when the main form opens and that form captures the login from windows into the "tracker" form.

I guess it will only work when the "tracker" form is first open. If the "tracker" form is open later, how to capture those logged in earlier?

Queries :: List Box Data Based On Logged In Users Department

Jan 4, 2014

I have a list box with a row source query as follows...

SELECT qryPendingCompletions2.ID, qryPendingCompletions2.Department, qryPendingCompletions2.[Employee Name], qryPendingCompletions2.CompletionDate AS [Completion Date], qryPendingCompletions2.[Entered By], qryPendingCompletions2.Goal, qryPendingCompletions2.Comments, qryPendingCompletions2.[Verified By]
FROM qryPendingCompletions2
WHERE (((qryPendingCompletions2.Department)=[cbocurrentemployee].[column](3)) AND ((qryPendingCompletions2.[Verified By]) Is Null))
ORDER BY qryPendingCompletions2.Department;

I also have a combo box at the top of the form showing what user is logged in where the row source query is the following...

SELECT Employees.UserID, [First Name] & " " & [Last Name] AS EFullname, Employees.AccessLevelID, Employees.Department
FROM Employees
WHERE (((Employees.AccessLevelID)=1 Or (Employees.AccessLevelID)=2 Or (Employees.AccessLevelID)=3 Or (Employees.AccessLevelID)=4));

How to only list the data in the list box when the department is the same as the logged in user.

So I'd like to add the criteria to the first query something like criteria = [cbocurrentemployee].[column](3) but this doesn't seem to work as criteria in queries.

Concurrent Users Access 2007

Dec 13, 2007

I am trying to get a feel for how Access 2007 performs regarding the ammount of concurrent users using a database.

I know there has been a lot of differing opinions about previous version and was wonder is the new version of Access (& I would guess Jet as well) is more stable with multiple users?

Access 2007 Trusted Locations All Users TS

Jan 15, 2008

At work we have a terminal services setup for most of the staff which is being configured now. We have hit a snag with access security settings basically we need macros to run for relinking odbc databases and various vba functions (some run overnight so we don't want to deal with the security dialogs). We though the best way to do this would be setup trusted locations. We did this logged in to terminal server as admin hoping this would be a machine level setting but it seems to be on a per user basis.

Is there a way to set a trusted location for all users of a machine I have google and come up with nothing. The other option is enable all macros which I don't want to do.

Modules & VBA :: Automate Access 2007 Queries With Form For Users?

Oct 18, 2013

I've been using Access 2007 to run queries on a database where we eventually export results as separate Excel spreadsheets for individual clients. The process is quite involved, using queries to change fields from code letters to words and splitting the database up into different client tables, saving the tables under date order and with different client codes.

I now need to pass this role on to colleagues, so need to make everything as straightforward as possible.

I had thought to use a Form as the user interface, with a minimum number of buttons, however I need either the system or the user to amend the date for the initial table, then to use this new table and run a series of standard queries on it, then produce the separate tables.

I don't think I can just use macros behind the buttons, because the database name is changing each time.

I assume some parts will be too tricky to automate - it will be necessary for colleagues to follow instructions instead.....

Modules & VBA :: Record Locking Multi-users Over Network Split Database / Access 2007

Aug 5, 2015

I have designed a database which I intend to split for multi-users to access from one front end icon on a shared folder at work. I have designed a form bound to cmr record table and on it a subform to another table where cmrs activities will be saved. The form has buttons to and blank controls.

User can create a new activity entry by typing into the blank controls and pressing the save button which saves to the activity table. the edit button extracts a selected records details (selected on the subform) from the activity table and populates the blank field for a user to edit and then hit save to save changes. The delete button deletes a selected record from the activity table. I intend to have multi-users either accessing, viewing and a possibly editing the same customer at the same time. The simultaneous viewing is essential but the simultaneous editing, though not desired is inevitably going to occur.

What I would like to know is:

1. Can you lock an individual record in a table or does the whole table have to be locked. E.g If Colleague 1 is editing Cmr A's record in Table1 can he lock it so Colleague 2 can view and edit Cmr B's record in Table1

2.Can Colleague 1 access/read Cmr A's record in Table1 to retrieve details toe the form controls if Colleague 2 is viewing or editing Cmr A's record in Table1

3. If record lock is possible, how can I initiate it in my example code below.Edit activity record Code

Code:
Private Sub Edit_A_Click()
'Get Data to text box control
With Me.R_P_Data_P_Subfrm.Form
Me.txtrID = !rID
Me.txtrID.Tag = !rID
Me.txtrefNo = !refNo
Me.cmbrpc = !rPC

[code]....

General :: Track Who Is Logged On And Authorize Transaction

May 11, 2015

I have a login screen that works fine but I need to lock some part of the system from normal users but I can't figure out how to track if the user who is logged on is security level is high and can authorize the transaction!!!

I have users table and in it I record the users, passwords, security level. So when someone logs on I have no way of knowing who they are and in order check their security level. I did it in the past by setting the C drive VOL into a value and search but as we use Citrix XenApp this is not possible the C drive is the server drive and if multiple users login to to that server then the VOL value would be wrong.

General :: Maximum Access Users

Dec 9, 2013

I know that Access probably permits around 20 or so users to simultaneously access the database before it start to become unfriendly. However, I have a database that would require 200 or so users grabbing around 1,000 rows of data via an Excel ADO connection to the backend tables.

So they would never need to physically go inside the Access database its self, but instead it would garb data by opening an ADO connection to the database > Grabbing the data > Closing the database connection.

Is this okay to do with around 200 users simultaneously querying the database tables via an Excel ADO connection?

General :: Allow Users To Access A Database

Oct 27, 2012

I am about to allow users to access a database I redesigned for others to use.I am trying to save it as an ACCDE so they can't mess it up. The database is very very simple.6 tables each with only 4 fields or less... and none are related to one another

7 forms.
1 report.
0 queries... it's just a SKU generator.

When I attempt to save as ACCDE I get an error that reads."Microsoft Access was unable to create the .accde, .mde, or .ade file.This error is usually associated with compiling a large database into an MDE file.* Because of the method used to compile the database, a considerable number of TableID references are created for each table.* The Access database engine can only create a maximum of 2048 open TableIDs at one time.* Exporting a database as an MDE potentially can exceed this limit if the database has a large number of objects (table, macro, form, report, etc).

There is no accurate method to estimate the number of TableIDs the Access database engine uses during the process of compiling a database as an MDE.* However, each VBA module and each form uses one TableID, as a result, if the database has 500 forms, and each form's HasModule property is set to Yes, as many as 1,000 TableIDs are used."

General Question About Access 2007

Feb 5, 2008

I have a database that works fine on access 2000. The problem is that when I open it in Access 2007 the switchboard does not display correctly and my command buttons do not work. Also, my field that autofill from a combo box do not fill in. I am assuming that access 2007 does not recognize the code for all of these. If this is the problem does anyone know of a reference that can be used to change the code to work.

Also, thought I would mention that I opened it in Windows Vista. I have read about problems with Vista. I have not tried opening the database on a computer running XP.

Just wanting to get working now in case my company changes over to Office 2007 in the future.

Thanks for any info.

General :: Limit Access To Database To Few Users

Aug 16, 2013

I am using Access 2007. My boss has given me a project to create a tool for our team. I'm done with most part of the project, but for the last part I want editing and updating of database restricted to a few members of our team. However others can access the database and run queries etc. through buttons on a form.

I went about creating a login form for users to get access to the database and in turn created a table with fields UserID, UserName, UserPW and a yes/no field titled IsAdmin. For those who would be limited access would log in as 'Other' user and same as password. I am then using the code to determine if the user should be treated as admin or not by looking up the IsAdmin field in the table. Following is what I have so far, but it needs correction some places and I can't figure where:

Private Sub cmdLogin_Click()
Dim xxAdmin As String
'Check to see if data is entered into the UserName combo box
If IsNull(Me.cboUser) Or Me.cboUser = "" Then
MsgBox "You must enter a User Name.", vbOKOnly, "Required Data"

[Code] ....

General :: Alt Key Scrolls Subform To Top - Access 2007

Oct 22, 2014

It seems that if I have a continuous subform open and scroll down through the records, then hit Alt, the subform immediately scrolls back to the top again?

I only noticed this today when I scrolled to a particular record, then wanted to use Alt+Tab to switch to a different window. When I Alt+Tab'd back to my DB, the subform had scrolled back to the top and I had to scroll again to find my record. It was only then that I realised the auto-scroll was happening as soon as I hit the Alt key.

How to disable this behaviour as I use Alt+Tab pretty frequently (as do my users, more importantly) and it will get pretty annoying pretty quickly if the subform keeps reverting to the top?

General :: Access 2007 Ribbon XML Syntax

I am upgrading an Access 2000 system to 2007 and replacing user toolbars with Ribbons.I have a strange parsing error that I think is not my error.

I have placed the following control into a group:

<control idMso="GroupPrintPreviewClosePreview" label="Close Preview" enabled="true"/> and "the system" rejects it with Error Code 0x80004005 Element <group> is not expected in <group>I

t turns out that it is finding the word Group within the double quotes and interpretting is at part of the XML syntax.

Change to another idMSO and the problem goes away. Same happened with another control that had the word Group in the id.

General :: Access 2007 Show Form On Top

Apr 10, 2013

I have a button which runs some VB, it brings up various message boxes as it prints a report to file, runs a query etc etc. I am hoping to display a basic form, which simply covers most of the screen and states "Please Wait" or something. I have already built the please wait form (frm_please_wait) and have set it to pop up. I have added it to my VB to open before I run the queries/output to file however the messages still appear on top..

How can I force the form to display on top of everything else in access ( it is only visibly for a few seconds, depending on the spec of the pc).

Reports :: Running A Report Outside Of Access For General Users

Mar 28, 2014

My database is slowly coming together. For the final part of this phase i would like to create a shortcut on each users desktop which runs a summary report of information within my database.

I have criteria set so upon opening the report the user is asked for which address they wish to see information from which works great. But I do not want users to have access to the database, I just want them to be able to click a shortcut, be asked what address they are looking for and for the report to ping up in a 'Print Preview' type layout so information can be seen and displayed but not altered. All users have the access program.
