General :: Access FE User Auto Copy Most Recent File
Jun 4, 2013
I have an access 2007 database that is split front end and back end. There are about 15 users and the backend is stored on the network. Currently I am e-mailing out the FE when chagnes are made so they have the latest copy.
With everything I have read I think a bat file would work the best at allowing me to make changes on demand without having to continually email out new versions of the FE. Sometimes the changes are behind the scenes unnoticable to the user while others are obvious.
Questions: Exactly HOW does a bat file work? When the user clicks on the access file stored on their laptop? Where is the bat file stored? I am unfamiliar with where to write the bat file code as well - notepad perhaps?
I am not sure how to create a bat file and what the code should be?
For version tracking I need to put a version table in the BE and in the front end correct?
have made a few significant changes but I'm holding out e-mailing it if I can get this version copying figured out and in place first.
What I would like to do is create a form that lets the user browse for an excel file, then will click an "import" button which then imports all the fields in excel into a table.
I have a folder with Access files, subfolders, and some .vbs files in it. It requires one person to navigate through a setup process. Once the setup is completed, they need to copy the folder and its contents to a location on a shared drive, which is unknown to me and will be chosen by the user at the site. There could be many sites.
It basically works like this:
Files are downloaded to C:Program Files.
A vbscript is run and extracts a folder directly to the C:Drive and opens it. I'll call it C:Test.
The user manually moves the BE file to a shared drive.
The user opens the FE file and is walked through using the Linked Table Manager.
The user then follows a series of forms to input data.
After this, the FE closes and another DB opens.
The second DB walks them through the Linked Table Manager and closes.
Option #1 At this point I would like to have a script and have it copy that folder, C:Test, and its contents, and have a dialog box open telling the user to paste it in a location where all users have access to.
Option #2 A script that will backup the folder and all its contents to a shared location selected by the user.
Either option will l allow others to navigate to that location, copy the folder, and paste the folder to their C: Drive.
Would it be ok just to make a copy of the BE file (every so often) rather than to make a copy via code? The user can then just paste over the original if it becomes corrupt.
I am trying to copy a pdf file between 2 directories. I am using xCopy, When I build my copy statement based upon various parameters, it looks something like this:
I might note that there is only one file in C:PDF995OUTPUT at a time. So I copy what is there, delete it and it is empty until the next usage.when it executes the statement, I get a DOS message asking whether what is being copied is a File or a Directory. How can I identify that without needing to respond to a message?
I have to create a flat file to send to a group each month. The file type I create is M(a 7 digit number).(a three digit number), like M1234567.123. I create it as a text file and rename it from a field on a form. The field is in the last line of code below, WaiverFile.
START OF CODE
Dim NewFormName As String DoCmd.TransferText acExportFixed, "WaiverFiles", "qryViewWaiverBilling", "C:PSWaiverFilesPSWaiverFile.txt", False, "" Dim stFileLoc As String stFileLoc = "C:PSWaiverFiles" FileCopy stFileLoc & "PSWaiverFile.txt", stFileLoc & Forms!frmDailyLogOptions!WaiverFile
END OF CODE
I have a procedure that this is part of. The next thing I need after the code above is to copy this file, M1234567.123, or “M?.?”, to a folder on a mapped drive, that is T:PSWaiverFiles. I need to copy it as M*, so that I can get the file every time. I have tried several things, including:
I have a database that is updated every weekday, every hour. I make a copy of it end of the day so i do not lose that data so far. I wish there was was a way to make a backup copy, say end (once sometime) of the day, automatically.
I'm using Access 2000. When I click the File menu to go to a recently used file, the entire path is shown. With my file system, the File drop down widow is about 50 characters too short to show the entire path all the way out to where I keep my database. Is there a way to shut off the viewing the entire path "feature?"
I am using this [URL] .... in our project but have made a minor change so it logs people out rather than close Access completely. It works beautifully but I want to take it a step further.
Instead of hardcoding the times in these two values
I'd like to give users the options to set these themselves as not everyone will be the same. I am thinking I would have to check for who is currently using the database, this is stored in a hidden form in the following field.
[Forms]![frmwhoson]![whoson]
This username matches the users First Name in table Employees and in this table I have two fields to store these values
logmeoutafter showlogoutmessagefor
So passing these values for the current user rather than having the logout times hardcoded.
have a vba code written to have my MS Access 2007 tell Outlook to send an e-mail with several attachments to whom it may concern, but I need it to change the "From" field in the e-mail, because there's many people who can send this, but it's looking like it's all being sent as my user. This is the code, it all works, but it doesn't change the sender field. Should I make some sort of auto-login macro or something?
Call fctnOutlook("Reconsideraciones BCH", EmailTasador, Email, , Subjet, "Agradecer revisar la tasacin indicada, de acuerdo a lo pedido en email adjunto, y me des tu opinin. I have been trying to set up a batch file to allow users to copy the latest version of the front end whenever a change is made. The following is the code that I am trying to get to work properly. The first part works fine, the old front end is copied to a folder on the user's desktop as a backup. But I cannot get the copy of the server - the "P" drive, to overwrite the current copy on the user's desktop. Actually I cannot get the code to copy the new front end from the server and install it on the user's desktop. I think the path is correct for I seem to be able to run the new front end from the server.
When I look for the location on my computer, the server locations is listed as:
General (Servernamefiles) (P: ) (there is no space after the P: it seems to result in a smiley face when I type it and try to post it).
for /f "tokens=2-4 delims=/ " %%a in ('date /T') do set year=%%c for /f "tokens=2-4 delims=/ " %%a in ('date /T') do set month=%%a for /f "tokens=2-4 delims=/ " %%a in ('date /T') do set day=%%b set TODAY=%year%-%month%-%day% rem echo %TODAY%
[Code] .....
This code works so I thought that the path was correct rem this works rem start the new DB front end Start P:AccessMainSplitBENewFrontEndDBMain.accdb
But this code does not. echo f | xcopy /f/y/ P:AccessMainSplitBENewFrontEndDBMain.accdb c:UsersUserNameDesktopDBMain.accdb
Neither does this: echo f | xcopy /f/y/ ServerNamefilesP:AccessMainSplitBENewFrontEn dDBMain.accdb c:UsersUserNameDesktopDBMain.accdb
We keep a backend and a master frontend of a database on a network drive and distributed a .mde version of the frontend to the users who save a copy of it on their hard drive. There is a separate version table on the frontend and backend of the database for version comparsion. Whenever there is change on the master frontend, I shall change the version # on those tables and make a new .mde file on the network.
When user open their own mde frontend, there are scripts to check its version with the master frontend on the network and any mismatch will trigger off the following scripts (on the default form) to replace the old version with a new one from the network.
Private Sub Form_Load() Dim strFEMaster As String Dim strFE As String Dim strMasterLocation As String Dim strFilePath As String ' looks up the version of the front-end as listed in the backend
[code]....
This process works fine for everyone in Access 2010. However, these scripts appear to have conflicts with Win 7 when users upgraded to the O/S. They keep getting database unstable error message and the process fails to work. Whether we can change the scripts to make them compatible with Win 7?
All I need to do is copy an excel file from a location (while coping the file, the location of the source file remains same all the time)and paste that excel file where ever I want (Browser Option) from an Access VBA.
I have a multi user database in Access 2000 that is on a server. The individual users have shortcuts pointing towards the server instance. One user and one user only when opening the shortcut gets the error "you do not have exclusive rights to the database" .
All other users can enter the database with no error box. I have checked the advanced setting under options and they are correct. Ironically if you go to start and open access then navigate to the database shortcut. It opens with no error.
I've got a database that allows all users to review an address register. If they find errors or mostly get updated information they have another form they can fill out to make the recommended changes. Only I have access to the main DB to make the change permanent.
The question I have is there a way for Access to send me a notification that someone has requested the change?
I know that sending an email is doable - in Access. However, that's not an option for our network here. I was thinking something along the command prompt "Net Send" command. However I've not been able to get that to work by itself - let alone within Access...
I have used VB code in the past to store what PC is using the database, I could modify that to alert me whenever I open the DB up from my PC. But I was trying to get away from having to open this particular DB up every day and check for changes.
I am using following code to copy low value from Access table to excel file, but only to find that it changed in excel file. How should I do to not change that?
ThisWorkbook.Sheets("EV Data").Cells(row + 2, col + 2) = _ rs.Fields(col).Value
Im seeking for a solution to prompt all user with windows alert for Notification
Case 1:One staff applied leave and clicked "Submit" , after clicked I want the system will prompt his/her Supervisor for his/her leave approval or like a notification that the Supervisor need to go somewhere to approve (Selected Supervisor)(Maybe the Supervisor need to 7x24 Opening the access database).
I need some simple code that will copy an Excel file or a table in Access to a specific location on an FTP server. I would think this would be a very simple task, but I have yet to find any sample code that is *simple*. I have seen lots of code that requires downloading this dll or that mda, but the examples don't work. There must be something built into MS Access 2010 that will allow a file to be uploaded to an FTP site.
All the variables are known:
The FTP location (it never changes) The FTP Username and Password (they never change) The destination folder on the FTP site (it never changes) The File type (it never changes) The File name (available from the form in Access from which this will be executed)
I can either produce an output file, then copy it to the FTP site, or I can export the table directly to the FTP site with the file name for that day.
This seems to be a very simple task with no simple solution. Currently I am using an FTP app to get the file to the FTP site, but I would like to automate this. The process that creates the output file is already automated, so I would just like to add this to the existing code as its own module.
just made all that above up and none of it is a real function/command in VBA, but is just the kind of thing I'm looking for.
I would think that since I can download and XML file from an FTP site that it should be child's play to upload a simple file to an FTP site, but I can't figure it out.
We have a split ACC2010 database, with the back end on our server and 5 front ends on 5 client PCs. I hadn't run a compact/repair on the back end for months. When today I tried, I got the 'database is locked' error. The lock file showed 'Admin' logged on at all 5 clients. The front-ends had been closed on all 5 clients. We do not have a user called 'Admin'. Because my issue occurs for all clients, it might be caused by some sort of programming error in the front end.A VBA bug (implicit comparison to a control in an If .. Then construct) caused this type of behaviour but was resolved in Access 2007.
Does a (the) .ldb file have to be closed for another user on a network (separate FE linked to network drive BE) to read/write info to a table? Or even select info from a table?
I often create contract using mail merge. I have an access file that I want to use as data source for word file. But it does not automatically.
Please download the attached file !
If there are 1 customer and 1 property, I do not need to do anything. Conversely, if there are many customers and many properties, I take time to manipulate.
Firstly, I open the word file. I have to copy and paste paragraphs that I want. Highlight of the original paragraphs is blue.
Secondly, I click 'Insert Word Field' -> select 'Next Record'.
In short, I wish to use VBA in access file to automatically perform the steps that I have outlined.
There is a manual process I'd like to automate. Instead of the user manually importing an external file into a table, I want a function to grab the most recent file in a particular directory. Is that possible? For example, I have a table called Input, and I want to append the file I just saved on my network, which in this case is G:Files2014TA_140928_011007.txt. The two ways to know which file to use is that the date is part of the filename (TA_ YYMMDD_ 999999. txt), and also the Date Modified attribute.
I am aware that if the user needs to work the files out of date order, he/she cannot use this code.
I have created an MS Access 2007 for a user. When the user uses the database, it automatically saves a copy of the database. Why is this happening? I did create for the database to compact/repair each time to user closes the database. ... However, when I open/close the database, there are not new copies of the database.
