I am using the attachment field in my form in Access 2010. I downloaded a picture (a picture of paper clip) from the web to use it as the display image for the attachment field. When using the form, the paper clip picture is displayed so long as there is no attachment. When a file is attached, the display image changes to the type of file (in my case pdf). However, I want Access to display the paper clip icon.
I don't know if this is the right place to post this but here goes. How do you display an icon or image in a field in a subform in Access2003? I tried inserting an image into a field with its data type set to OLE Object. This doesn't work. I insert a bitmap or icon file (*.ico) into the table. When I open up the subform the field displays the word "Package" for Bitmap image". Any help would be greatly appreciated Thank you :D
I have a continuous subform which queries a table of attachments. I'm using Access 2007 but not using the Attachment datatype; this DB will grow considerably and I don't want to waste precious space by filling it with bulky files. So instead, I have code which makes a copy of the attachment and adds the hyperlink (to the copy) to the table instead.
Now - I want to add a control to the subform to display an icon / image reflecting the file type of the attachment (Word doc, Excel s/s, PDF etc.)
But not sure how to go about it.
I was thinking I could use FileSystemObject.GetFileExtension at the point in the code where the attachment is added, and add a new field to my attachments table (i.e. translate "*.xls*" to "Excel", etc.) Then store / embed a handful of images for the core types I would expect and use an image control on the subform to display the image based on the value of that field.
But is that even possible / feasible?
Or, is there a handy API which can retrieve the icon associated with a file type based on what has been installed on the local machine (even if there is, there's still the problem of setting up the image control to display the appropriate icon specific to each record...)
Or, is there another control available which would be better suited to something like this than an Image control?
Creating and installing a custom icon for my database but I'm still seeing the access icon. I've done these things:
-I made a 32x32 bitmap in photoshop. -I saved it in the same folder as my database. -I opened access 2007 with my database -I went to access options/current database/application options/application icon and browsed for my bitmap. -Clicked on use as form and report icon. -Closed everything and reopened my database.
I couldn't see my icon anywhere in explorer, access or my desktop shortcut for my database.I repeated all this except I put the bitmap into an online icon creator and downloaded an .icon for win vista and win 7 which I selected as above.
I have started converting our Access 2003 to Access 2010 applications. In the past we have used the Calendar to pick a date to place in a textbox. I noticed that this feature will not work in Access 2010.
So I looked around and saw several references to using the calendar pick feature to a textbox...but without success.
How to have a textbox with a calendar icon next to it to populate the chosen date in the textbox?
Hello all, I am new to the site and have found so much useful information and examples but one thing I haven't found yet. I am interested in knowing can someone post up an append example. Here is what I am trying to accomplish. I have a database with two tables. The fields are identical and I can vew either one with ease. The problem is I would like to be able to copy the information from the current table to the second one with a push of the button. I can create a button with the help of the wizard that copies the record but it only copies the record to the current table which I have open.
Another thing is when I try to close access, I notice I always get a messagebox asking me about the information that is copied on the clipboard (due to me trying to copy a record). Is there a way to supress this message so people won't see it.
I know this alot to be asking and I just got here but I will be sure to help out other members when I have the knowledge of the program.
hi all, this morning i installed the ms access 2000 runtime and then i uninstalled it. After that i had some problems and there was no other choice than uninstall and install the office 97. Now for some reason the access 97 works BUT the mdb files have a notepad icon instead the access 97 icon. however, if i see the icon's properties under OPEN WITH the icon is the correct one.
Hi, I have installed Access Developer Extensions and Access Runtime but still I can not see the "developer" option in menu. Can someone please help me to find this option.
I recall using a database (created by someone else that I don't have contact with) whereby, when you open it, the user-end form opens up on your Windows desktop, but the usual MS Access window is minised/hidden.
how I can replace the MS Access icon in the windows 7 taskbar at the bottom of my screen with my customized one. I already added under the access options the form and report icon and was hoping that this may solve the issue. But my own icon just pops up on the title bar of the main access screen, forms and the reports.
I have a access 2007 file. with a table with a yes/no field. When I link the table to another db using lnked table manager, the yes/no display is not a checkbox (as set) but is turns into textbox.
I am regularly getting the error "There is not enough free memory to update your display, close unneeded programs and try again"
Access 2013 on a windows 7 machine with 4 processors and 24GB total RAM.
Today I have 14 GB free memory (unbelievable! my first laptop had 136 MB total memory!) when I got this error (Access using 38MB) which makes me believe its not a system memory issue but to do with how much (or quickly) memory is allocated to Access.
I have migrated an A2003 application to A2013 and in one of the A2013 forms I get a calendar icon appear all ove the place.
I uploaded a short video at
[URL]
When the form opens (shows dentist appointments by chair) the icon appears that the very top in Chair 1. I can add a patient, no problem.
When I click on an appointment in Chair 2, the icon appears in the last clicked appointment on Chair 1. When I then click on Chair 1 the icon appears on the last clicked appointment on Chair 2.There is no problem with the A2003 version. I DO NOT use the Calendar icon in my application or any third party software.
I知 new here so don稚 shoot me if I知 asking something that is inappropriate. I知 looking to make a DB for paper file tracking simular as you would expect in a law firm.
I don稚 want to reinvent the wheel so I知 asking if someone has built something like this before. I知 also looking at barcode ID which I have no experience with at all.
Is there someone out there that can put me on the right path?
My Access 2010 application has many reports. On almost every report, the user can select a new paper size. This paper size is remembered, so the next time the user selects the same report, he no longer have to set the paper size (I guess this is the default behavior for Access programs). One report does not behave properly. This report is a LEGAL size report. EVERY times the user selects this report, it prints on LETTER size, so the form is split in two pages. If the user selects teh LEGAL size paper, it works, but the next time the report defaults back to LETTER size paper.
I checked everywhere in the code, nowhere the paper size is set. In development, I selected the report, I changed the paper size to LEGAL, I ran the report. The next time I check the paper size of the report, it is back as LETTER size. After my OpenReport statement, I tried manally setting the paper size with "Reports(xxx).Printer.PaperSize = acPRPSLegal" but my report still defaults to LETTER size paper.
Just wondering if it is possible to populate a database by scanning in a form into a scanner? For instance, if I had a standard paper form with typed data inside of the paper form's fields, to place that form into a scanner and have a program extract the characters in each one of the fields and place them into the appropriate fields in a database. I have heard of some agencies doing this, but don't know the names of software packages that would make this possible. Can anyone suggest some software packages or methods of doing this?
I need to have the last page of a report in access print to an 8.5x11 instead of 11x17 (the rest of the report has to print 11x17). No clue how to set it up so it's automatic...
Hi, I have a two page report (it is formatted to always be exactly two pages) and I need to print it on the front (page one of the report) and on the back (page two of the report) of the same piece of paper. The less user input the better.
Is this an Access thing or a printer thing (We have a HP 6P).
I have a report that should print on labels ready to be stick on a book, but how can I tell the report to start from 3th row 2nd column so I do not waste any labels?
I have a table with only ten records, this will not change. I would like to create tabs like and index showing one record per tab. Is there an easy way of doing this
