The insert query execution was taking very long, so I decided to write to a .csv file and then import it to one of the desired tables. This worked very fast as compared to directly writing to the DB. Now I want to automate this process. The user should specify the file name at the command prompt and I want to call a script so that the script automatically imports the contents of the .csv file into the access DB. I already have connection established to the DB. All I am looking for is the script that can automatically import the .csv file into access DB. Please help me out. :confused:

I have requirement to automate the process to load .CSV files onto MS Access on daily bases. I am new to MS Access.
Note: No other technologies are used like JAva, C#, etc.
The multi-user application I'm making uses data from another system. I get reports in csv format e-mailed to me in zip format. Since it's a multi-user system, I have to create a table with the records from the csv I get an error message that someone is viewing the data if I try viewing it while someone is viewing it.
When I get the e-mail with the latest version of the csv, I unzip it and replace the older file in the folder location that the Access database is linked to. I have a sub routine that deletes everything from the table and inserts the records from the latest csv. I execute the sub by pressing a button.
Is there a way to automate unzipping the file, extracting it to the folder and running the sql code in VBA?

I need to import a text file into an existing table in Access. The text file has been imported once and is working well and everything. However, since I had to change some of the datatypes to be able to query the table correctly, I now cannot import the text file anymore unless I change the datatype of the table itself. Since someone other than I will be doing the imports from here on out, changing the datatypes everytime is out of the question. I was looking at the TransferText event, but I didn't seem to see anything about converting data types. I can think of two options, and neither are probably possible:
1. import using the wizard. Since I didn't see anything related to the types of data, I don't think this will work...
2.import using TransferText. This doesn't seem to give me any opportunity to change the datatypes either. Is there anyway to programmatically change datatypes, or is there possibly an easier way that I'm overlooking??

I want my access database to store information about "tests" and "products" that are in each "test". So "tests" is the "one" and "products" is the "many" (each test has many products).My client needs to routinely send me lists of tests and the products that are in each test. I then need to put this information in to my database
I don't want to type out the information they send me, instead I want to devise a simple form for them to complete and email to me (perhaps in excel) that they populate, and I then import/paste in to my database.How should the excel form be structured so that it is both easy for my client to populate and easy for me to import/paste in to my database. e.g. importing lots of test and product information, rather than type it in. Bearing in mind the 1:M structure.
I had created a database a number of months back and received.After getting halfway through and seeing some requests come through from management on what they want to see or improvements, it looks as though there will have to be some retooling done to the database like moving some fields to different tables as there is duplicate entry fields.Would you import all the tables into a new database and then append the data to where it needs to go or keep working within the one I have?

When I try to import to Excel from Front End and/or Back End using database connections I receive a message telling me that I am using an invalid password (even though I use the same password when I encrypt/decrypt FE and BE). I've tried using Access import, ODBC and Microsoft Query. (In some cases I 'm also prompted to set a username, which I do not know which it should be since I haven't set one in my database (except the automatic "admin"))

I just created a database and need to connect it to the data source. The data comes from a http website (intranet from work). When I open the link using firefox, I can view the website with the data in it, but when I open it from Internet Explorer, I get a save as pop-up message to save a csv file which contains all the data. The extension of the http website ends with csv. So it is something like http (slash slash...) Intranetname/referral_dbase.csv

I am trying to find a way to link my database to the website where the data is located so that I can skip the manual process of opening the website and copying the data and saving it into a text file and then importing that file into access. I was thinking to have like a form in access with a bottom that will automatically import that data from this link and paste it into a table in access using the delimiter symbol mentioned above.

I have access database as FE and teradata and peoplesoft as BE. In access database, i have a table with 5 columns and around 50,000 rows of data. I need to create the pass through queries such that it selects the first row from the access table as a where clause and export the query results in excel format or access table. The query should then go to the 2nd row as a next where clause and append the results in the same excel sheet or table.This process need to continue for all rows in the access table.

I'm trying to make a simple program to automate timesheet templates. Each of our staff members work on a 4 weekly basis (week 1, week 2, week 3 and week 4). I currently use a word document with the template in and copy and paste it into the timesheet. The timesheets run from the 23rd of one month until the 22nd of the month after. The issue is the four weekly template doesn't fit the same every month so I am after an automated process.
I'm thinking of having forms to select a staff member and change their hours on the template, if you will, and then a button to create new timesheets where admin staff would just need to add the first date (ie 23/09/2013) and the timesheet would be made for each staff member and auto filled with the four week template.
My main issue is I'm not sure how to link the dates to the weeks in a table. I have attached a word template of my own hours.

I need to preserve the hierarchic info in the nested bullet point lists. E.g. under treatment i might have a point called Acute treatment, with sub-levels, Step 1, Step 2, etc. with their own sub-levels. I need to maintain this relational hierarchic info.
I'm new to Access and VBA, for the record. What I need to do is copy a SQL database (table structures and records) and save it as a local Access database, so that the user can query and make any changes on the local file without editting the SQL database.
Looking around, it seems like the best option would be to use the TransferDatabase method with the acImport option. Does this sound reasonable, or can someone with more experience suggest a better way to go about it? Thanks.

Today, however, i'm trying to import a form and get one of the following messages:
"The search key was not found in any Record"
"No current record"
I'm unable to import the form.

I am trying to help a person that has a 1980s DOS database called "SMART". The program "smart" will output the database in a format that Access should be able to read, but it can't read the full file.

I have a split database. One of the processes I've
created, copies a new table from a previously created
blank table. It then imports data from an Excel spreadsheet
into the newly created table. My problem is that now when
the import occurs, the data is getting imported into both
the new table as well as the blank table. For some reason,
this only occcurs after the database is split. I've tested on
a backup copy that is not split and everything works fine.
Any ideas please?

Hi all, I'm trying to get the following done:
I have code which import Excel files into my database with the "DoCmd.TransferSpreadsheet". which works great.
But I'm now splitting the database and I want to have the Excel files which a user selects in his frontend database, imported in my backend database. I don't see the possibility in the TransferSpreadsheet as this is set to the CurrentDb.
My temporary solution is to import in the frontend and CopyObject to the Backend, but does anyone have a direct solution?

The form in question has a lot of lengthy code behind various combo boxes, text boxes, etc. When I attempt to look at this code (via right-clicking on a field and going to Properties and the Event tab), none of it is present any more.
What's going on? This form took weeks to get working and now it can't be copied, renamed or imported, plus it appears to have been 'wiped' of everything but the visual features.
Any ideas what could be causing this? Can one form become 'corrupt'? If so, please say that there's some way to remedy it?
I have a secure MS Access database, where users by default can only read data, but not write. How can I prevent them from importing or linking files, or inserting objects? I don't want to use any passwords in my database, since it's used inside the application. Thank you.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have updated my copy of a database which included updates to a number of forms. I now want to import those changes into the proper database, so I used the Import function. I didnt get any errors when I imported everything, but the forms do not work as they did in my copy of the database.
One of the forms that dont work comprises of a number of drop down boxes, I have updated these so that the user has a filtered selection, to do this I put an SQL function in the Row Source property. This SQL function has been copied over correctly in the imported form, in fact when I go into the form in design view to check this fact then revert it back to normal view (after having not changed anything) it then works and all the other drop down boxes that didnt work on that form now work! How can viewing a form in design view and not changing anything make it now work?
So I could go into each form in the design view, check the Row Source property, then revert back to normal view and it would solve the problem of my forms not working, but, this database that I am importing the forms into is the back end of a split database and the first thing that the front end of the database does is import the changed objects into its database but the forms dont work.I have made changes in this way before and not had any problems before.
