General :: Automatic Backup Of Access Database With Date Added To End Of File Path

Jul 28, 2014

Just wanted to confirm which is the best way to create an automatic back up of a access DB. (Split DB, backing up the BE - Access2010)

Firstly I was thinking of just creating a batch file to copy the file to a new source directly with a task scheduler set up.

Ideally I'd like it to run daily and have the date of the back up added to the end of the filepath.

General :: Block Pathway To Backend Folder But Allow Access Via Frontend Database

Jul 17, 2012

If I have an MS Access frontend that connects to an MS Access backend, is there a way to hide/permission block the pathway to the backend's folder but still allow access via the frontend db?

Right now I can't dedicate a server to a more "secure" form of DB or anything like that so I'm stuck with MS Access for now. I just don't want someone looking at, say, a link table path and then navigating to that folder and getting access to backend information.

Modules & VBA :: Backup Backend Using Batch File?

Aug 14, 2014

I've created some code to make a backup of my database backend. I've tested it and it seems to work fine, I just have some questions about it's use. Here's the code:

Code:
Public Sub backupBackend()
Dim TestFile As String
Dim strReplFile As String
Dim copyFromLocation As String
Dim copyToLocation As String
copyFromLocation = "S:Trust 2 AnalysisData"

[code]....

It will be triggered by a button push. It creates a batch file to do the copy operation and then delete itself.

In an ideal world I would schedule the backup at a safe time through the Windows scheduler, but our IT department won't allow me to do so.

The concern I have is that we could potentially press the backup button while a user is performing an action that writes/modifies data. If this were to happen would my backup potentially contain corrupted data?

If so, is the workaround to simply press the backup button when nobody is using the database?

Automatic Backup When Last User Closes.

May 30, 2007

Hi All,

I've searched for ages looking for threads on backing up a database, and even found one which was asking exactly what I need but without solutions given.

I have a split database with BE and FE, which is used by about 20 users. When the last user closes the database I would like the database to be automatically backed up (e.g. when no one is using it). I've found threads on scheduling a backup, it the middle of the night for example, and other threads on backing up while users are logged on, but I'm not really keen to use these approaches.

Any ideas??

John

Forms :: Automatic Folder Creation

May 23, 2013

I currently have a database where users input new parts into a database using a part form. When they put in the part type, a tracking number is automatically generated. I would like a folder to be created for each part where we can store pictures and a report. How would i have it create a report to a certain area using the tracking number as the folder name? I also want to be able to upload pictures and eventually save the report in there but creating the folder is the first step.

General :: Temporary Record Or Backup

I am using different values of a record (selected from a combobox) in my form/table which a user can edit and afterwards use for calculations and reports. the problem I encounter is that the fields are bound so if changed there is no undo if not mistaken.Is there a way to have for instance load a record in a temporary place (without making a large amount of temporary variables) and only update if the "save" button is pressed?

In our forms, we have managed to export a backup of our application (to accdb file) in a specific folder.

We now are trying to make a backup restore function that restores the backup (the accdb file).

However, we have some difficulties with restoring this backup in a form (like browsing for this specific backup file).

How to make this restore function?

General :: Backup BACK-END Of A Split Database

Jan 24, 2014

I am trying to use VBA to backup the BACK-END of a split database (so I can automatically archive selected data). If I use FileCopy I get a message that the BACK-END database has not been found.Obviously I could 'unlink' the BACK-END, copy it and 're-link' it..Is it possible to copy the BACK-END tables(not just the links) into the FRONT-END and get at them that way?

I'd like to have a button on my dashboard that gives the user the ability to back up the database and save it with a different date. For example, existing database called "Fishing.accdb" and I'd like to have code behind a button that allows the database to be saved as "Fishing0711.accdb"

I'm trying to avoid the user having to go into the File Save as menu system....I've tried the docmd.copyObject method but can't get it to work

General :: Difference In Size Between Actual Access Database And Its Backup

Aug 19, 2014

I am using Access 2007 database in work environment. When one of my colleagues tried to update some records in a table, it created a backup of the database.

The issue is that the size of the actual database is much smaller than the size of the backup. However all the data are present and I don't think any data has been deleted.

But I don't know why there is a difference in size?

Some of the tables in the database are linked from MS SQL Server.

General :: Many Front Ends And Only One Backend

May 7, 2013

I have (on a company network) a FrontEnd .accde and a backend .accdb - currently ~ 10 users (some over wifi - slow!)The FrontEnd is becoming a rather large file ~ 10 MB and is also becoming slower.I am looking to separate this in to 3 FrontEnd files as to simplify and to lessen the file sizes etc.

My question is - are there any issues around a 3 x FrontEnd databases all connecting to 1 x backend database holding all the tables - over a network?

General :: Backend Version Control?

Oct 23, 2012

I have completed the split and have deployed the backend to SharePoint. The front end is sat on my (and others) machines with linked tables to the SharePoint lists. This is all fine and works well.

Although this database is deployed, I am constantly working on a local copy of the database in design I.e. Tables being updated with fields and relationships and new tables being added. The reason for this is that work wanted something workable putting out there now and that I just continue its development in the background.

What is the best way to update the tables on SharePoint bearing in mind that users are putting new data on there? I don't want to lose what they are updating and then I need to redploy the 'new' backend to SharePoint again (no doubt in the same location) as that's where the front end is looking for it.how I can manage this version control of the backend without losing data.

I have to do this and I believe there is VBA code to re-link tables when needed that can be found on the web. My client needs access to everything because he will move on to another developer after this, so what I thought I would do is send him a private file that has the password for the backend and then just write the ADO code needed in the app's front end to connect with the password.

rs.MoveFirst
