General :: Calculated Fields - Reading And Modifying Records
Aug 2, 2012
I am new to Access and this is likely a very elementary question. I recently created a database to track status of projects including progress and funding. The table contains several fields that record various aspects of funding. These fields are added (very simply) and create a calculated field that is a summation of those fields. The table currently contains approx 60 records. The calculated field functions for 2 or 3 records and will not calculate further. I have tried this in a form as well as a query. The form will change the same number, 2 or 3 records. When the query is run the result shows only the 2 or 3 records. What I am doing that is only reading and modifying those records?
I have an application where I have to read a big VCF file in VBA, extract the information and place it into records of a table. Of course I can read as a text file, but the structure is quite cumbersome to implement with many fields missing in different records and it is not a one time job.
I have a score marking template for an internal audit. A criteria is either met, or it is not. All of these questions have Yes/No data type. each question has a weighting. I have written a VBA function to work out the total score by using a bunch of If statements.I need to store the final result in a table, by entering the answers (yes or no) into a form.
I know that it isn't usually best practise to store calculated fields in a table, but in my situation it is necessary, and I haven't really found a good answer for this after searching these and other forums.
Currently my database has one "Name" field (I didn't make it like this) which might look like this "Jonathan (John) Smith" Now I also have reason to grab the name like this "Smith, John" for other purposes.
I've set up a form for inputting new people with separate fields for firstname, preferredname, and lastname. I have the calculated fields:
(Later I will add in all the iif's for if there is no preferred name)
Upon finishing the form, the user hits Submit, and I would like to store the concatenated values into the table in their appropriate fields.
I can do this with a SQL INSERT INTO statement but I'd have to add all 25 or so fields from the form, and injecting user input directly into a SQL statement is not best practice either.
I've created a table for a college project and realised that one of my calculated fields isn't working. It doesn't produce an error message, it just doesn't calculate.
The interface being used is a main form with various tabs and a subform on each of these tabs.
There is one field ('max power density') in my database that is calculated using 'Max Rated Power' and 'Cylinder Capacity' however these are in different tables and subforms. The 'max power density' and 'max rated power' are in table and subform 1 but 'cylinder capacity' is in table and subform 2. Is it possible to keep them in separate tables/subforms and still calculate the field?
I am very new to Access and I am not a programmer at all. Something in my program changed and I am stuck on how to correct it. When I look at the front end everthing looks fine. When I look at the back end one of my fields are no longer reading correctly. I get the message error code 2465
I have a Form with embedded Subform, everything works well as far as moving through records. Scrolling through records on main table via Form brings up correct records of child table on Subform, so the link between the 2 tables is done properly.
I use this logic to lock/unlock a field in the subform.
Code: Private Sub Form_Current() If IsNull(Me.Parent!Spec2) Then Me!Value2.BorderStyle = Transparent Me!Value2.SpecialEffect = Flat Me!Value2.BackStyle = Transparent
[Code] ...
I confirmed with debug that the logic does set the properties properly. They are updated once and that's that. Any further passes through the logic do not update on the form. They do pass through correctly, changes are just ignored.
It doesn't matter if I use the logic from the Form and refer down, or in the Subform and refer up, the Subform never gets updated. I tried Repaint, Refresh, Requery, nothing works. I cannot count the permutations I've tried.
Is there away in which I can protect an access 2007 database modification with a password.I'm doing this because I would like to prevent my client from modifying or having acces to the database's back end system (db), I would just like him to use forms and nothing else.
I see a lot of requests for this operation, but apparently .DB files are so general that sometimes it's impossible? Any all-encompassing program that can read files like this? I believe they come in different formats and are produced by a variety of different programs. The only thing I ever see though are files with [.db] as the extension.
If I open the one I have with notepad on a windows machine I see some of the info but some of it is not there and is garbled.
I have an existing query, created using the query wizard which works just fine - however, I would like to modify it to return only instances where there are 3 or more records appearing.
Essentially, its an employee history report for a particular action done by those employees, which returns all records between two dates as specified by the user. What I would like to do is only show those employees who have had more than three instances of this action in the given date period.
I am thinking along the lines of DCount? but how it would be phrased in the query?
Is it possible to direct the placement/order new of fields when modifying an Ms Access database in code?
I need to modify the schema of an MS Access database via code - but I want to be able to direct the order or placement of the fields within the tables.
For example - if TableOne has 3 fields - Field10, Field20 and Field30.
I would like to be able to add say Field15 between Field10 and Field20 - not just append it to the end of existing fields.
I believe it is possible as you can do it within Ms Access itself. I can use ADO, DAO, ADOX or SQL for that matter - but it seems all of these offer no placement of the field within the table.
My database was working fine until I split the database and now I'm having issues with this function:
Code: Public Function OpenFirstAttachmentAsTempFile(ByRef rstCurrent As DAO.Recordset, ByVal strFieldName As String) As String Dim rstChild As DAO.Recordset2 Dim fldAttach As DAO.Field2 Dim strFilePath As String Dim strTempDir As String
[Code] ....
It's getting stuck on the "strFilePath = strTempDir & rstChild.Fields("FileName").Value" line. The debugger says that there is no reord. The strTempDir is correct. I am assuming that the issue has to with linking to the database.
I am in need of consultation for MS Access reading data from ODBC connection. I have SQL Server that has all the data for the project financials etc.
I need a database that will read only certain data from the tables, for example, I don't need to import all 500,000 lines from SQL through ODBC connection, I just want to bring certain data for a list of projects whichever are opened and load only that data in MS Access so the group then can add additional details for that project in a shared MS Access.
Right now, all I can do is connect to that database through ODBC and brings all the data which I don't need all as it increases the size of the database, but just a criteria to specify which data to bring, if that's possible to do.
I will have a PC and a number of scanners in a production line. I will need at least 15-20 scanners and would like to plan for more if needed. When an operator clicks on a button I would like to have each of the scanners triggered and return the value. They can be done in turn or all at once (preferred for speed). I need to know which value came from each scanner. I would then compare the barcode read at each station versus what is supposed to be at that station and either pass or fail.
I have two options on the main switchboard page and when I click on the second option it goes to a secondary page that gives me 3 options with the third option being to return to the main screen. When I select that option it does go back to the main screen but then on the main screen it shows the return to main screen option as well and when I select it.... it says " There was an error reading the switchboard items table." But I want the main screen to only show the original two options only.
I have been using a A2003 file through A2007 to be able to use user security. We are now in A2010 and the users and permissions component is not showing in the Administrator area as it did in A2007, although the security is still functioning. How do I get access to Users and Permissions in A2010?
I am working on setting up a Document Control System and have a table, called List_of_SOP where I have, amongst others, the following fields:
- Document Title - Document Number (unique identifier) - Responsible - DL (where this is a multiline lookup column where one ticks the names of the people to whom this document needs to be distributed)
I want to be able to fill an array with the checked values of the DL field, given a particular Document Number. So far, the code is somewhat on these lines:
Dim rs1 As DAO.Recordset Dim rs2 As DAO.Recordset Dim rs3 As DAO.Recordset Dim db As DAO.Database Dim strSQL1 As String Dim strSQL2 As String
I have a table full of meter readings. I want to have a field called consumption which looks at the reading just entered for that month and then subtracts the previous months reading for that meter which leaves the consumption.
Can I get a formula that can work this out automatically?
I have a terrible skill in this but I am doing my best to find ways. But I am running out of time in the development stage. I have the following form and table:
Tables: Eqpt EqptHistory
Forms: frmEqpt frmHistory
frmEqpt is the Mother form and frmHistory is the subform connected thru eqptID. Now what I want to do is count the records in the frmHistory and Locked the fields for editing. If it is new records, the fields will automatically unlock.
How do I do that because I can't find a way to count the fields with records and lock them.
I have a user that is unable to edit records, He can click in the fields but he could not delete or enter data in the fields. He has the ability to edit records but its fields are locked. I created a split database and created a secure front which I distributed it to multiple uses. The other users front end is working fine, expect for the one.
Using sql or access query I would like to create an expression that aggregates the first field and I would like to see all records grouped by the relationship with another field. Let me show an example.
My query shows:
field1 field2 apple a apple b banana a carrot a carrot b dog b elephant b
I would like my query to now display a third field and group field :
field1 field3 apple both banana a carrot both dog b elephant b
1 table(1): record of people & contact details 1 table(2): list of events with check box's with the names of people from the other table 1 report: listing how many events people have attended.
When I add a new person to table 1 I want a field to be added to table 2 in the form of a checkbox, also when I delete this person I want this field to be deleted in table 2.how to make this an automated process.
I am trying to create a calculated field in a query, that shows money owed from customers. I have 4 different job codes that have their own prices. I also have customers with the amount of hours they owe for, for each job. There are two customers that owe for two different jobs. I know how to write in : Money Owed: [price per hour]*[number of hours]. but i want to have only one line for each customer when i run the query. How do i combine??
